I'm quite sure that bananas aren't inanimate objects. Even after fruits are plucked many of their cells are very much alive. That's actually and interesting way of thinking and a falsehood. If we don't see something move or it's movements are hard to detect visually then some may assume it to not be alive. Great video though!
Damn I remember like 7-8 years ago I watched your channel then you stoped posting videos. one video every few monthes. Its nice to see youre still posting the fun science. Last time I was here it was the tea chronicles. I remmember watching you before 1m subs. good times.
I'm obsessed with space stuff, to the point where I once cried myself to sleep because I watched a video about Heat Death and the destiny of our Universe. IDK if I got to consider The Universe as a living thing, but I just really don't want it to die.
I've been thinking about this recently, since I recently finished season 2 of Stranger Things. I'm so attached to those characters & get so involved with the story. It helps that so many of the characters are *immensely* likeable
I haven't seen Charlie in quite some time. I remember watching him (alot) as a teenager. We kinda grew up together (in my head, of course) I am now a nearly 30 year old woman, and he is nearly a 30 year old man, and its like running into an old friend. He has changed so much, along with the channel. Wow. What a fine young man he has turned in to.
Oh yeah, that one was tough...
First thing that came to my mind was the first time I read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when I got so mad at Dolores Umbridge, I wanted to wring her neck so bad... I nearly threw the book against the wall out of sheer frustration ^^'
Seriously! This is so true and it's just so weird to me when someone doesn't understand the connections you can make with fictional characters. Like when I cry because a good character dies and someone else sees me they think I'm weird but nooo I just can't help it
Now that I've seen this video I actually was thinking about this, too. Maybe all the other people are just less empathetic than us? Are they mentally ok, or is there something wrong with them? Like, how much of that is normal?
I guess people just generally are different in how much empathy they have, but this makes me think, that people who don't cry at least can feel the emotions.
I am so damaged as I have unintentionally taken after so many fictional characters in behaviour, speak, emotion and thought. If I have intensely been watching a show or movie over and over and really like or identify with a character I can even, in my brain, believe that I LOOK like that character. That is such a weird sensation, when you know you dont look like that but in your mind, you still do. This goes away rather quickly in a couple of days or so if I stop watching the show/movie.
When I watch a lot of British shows and afterwards start thinking in English (English is not my mother tongue, but if you're immersed in another language you start thinking and eventually even dreaming in that language), I think in British English, if that makes sense xD It does go away quickly as you mentioned as soon as you're surrounded by something else, but it still is funny what our brains come up with!
(On a side note, I think I never had the sensation of looking like a character I think, but I have experienced those pumped-up feelings you get after watching a good action or superhero movie, when it makes you feel like you can take on the entire world ^^)
This was an awesome topic, especially for a nerd who has been emotionally invested in characters her whole life, as well as an avid reader with an often excessive level of empathy. Loved hearing the science behind it.
Is the reading and empathy cause and effect though? Is it not so likely that people who have a greater degree of empathy are more likely to read books which require empathy to enjoy? Not read the studies but I would be interested to see whether they ruled out that alternate hypothesis
