973 ratings | 479311 views
There comes a point in every woman's life where she looks down at her favorite foundation or sunscreen and thinks: "I wonder what's IN this stuff?" If this hasn't happened to you yet, it's time. The "green" beauty movement is well underway and its mission--to rid the world of toxic beauty products--is a worthy one indeed. In this episode of #BeautyExperienced Anna goes on a mission to learn all about green beauty. She wants to know what is toxic and what is not and which beauty brands are actually doing it right. To start her investigation she meets up with Suzanne Hall, the editor-in-chief of the Chalkboard, a healthy living website from Pressed Juicery. She then goes on to interview Victoria Fantauzzi, the CEO of La Bella Figura Beauty and Founder of A Night For Green Beauty. Watch and see what happens. These videos should also warn people about synthetic fragrances because that's where most of the bad for you chemicals are hidden.

I’ve recently been looking at my beauty ingredients and the trick is knowing what ingredients to avoid and going to natural health grocers. I’ve found Urea (which is basically the chemical name for condensed cow urine, which can release formaldehyde into your body) in my cheap moisturizers all the way to the glam glow face masks.. expensive does not mean better

so how does one see the chemicals in their makeup? like if u order a brand u know someone else made how do you test to see what is inside it?

LemonGrass Spa is by far the BEST all natural skincare company out there. they have all natural makeup line and body/skincare line. Most companies arent really natural like they claim to be, just check the ingredients. Check it out..to see products click shop http://www.ourlemongrassspa.com/MelanieCottrill

Also beware of fragrance as well. Read the ingredient list on the label. Look for certified toxic free products as well. I market some of those.

I love this video! I am so glad that you went out and did a segment on "green beauty". Last year was the year I decided to switch from conventional beauty products to natural organic beauty products. To be honest my switch started with the birth of my daughter I search for organic natural baby products and diapers. I then started using her body lotions and then I decided to investigate and change products. first skin care and then makeup to the last thing is perfume. I'm happy with the switch and I try to encourage my friends and family members to do the same. Thanks for this informative video Anna.

I switched to natural products within the year and Ive noticed a huge difference! I only use natural soap on my face and coconut oil as moisturizer and my skin has never been better!

What"s sad is, if you're poor you can't even afford these green friendly healthy brands. $38 for lipstick........geeeesh. If you can't afford it you'll just die, no different than what's offered in grocery stores, and most of the "organically grown" food aren't even organic. If. you don't have the money to live well and as toxic free as possible...you're screwed.
innocentboyzthegreat (8 months ago)
that's because all these brands are overcharging for products that are actually might not even be beneficial for you. Did you know Lavender oil can cause cell toxicity? Natural or organic does not mean it's better for you. Always look up actual scientific research papers from scientific journals and not this stupid mumbo jumbo this channel is trying to feed you guys. There's not much science produced  by this channel tbh.

Thank you. Very elucidative and educational. I will use this to re-educate my wife, mother, and all the other girls I know.

I've been green for about 2 years and it amazes me how much toxins are actually in makeup. most anti perspiration deodorants have aluminum so I use primal pit paste. hair dye is toxic so I use henna. it's been easy for me to switch over.

I have so much admiration for brands like the ones participating in A Night for Green Beauty, ones that out the quality and purity of ingredients first. It is disappointing how unregulated mainstream beauty is and how unaware consumers are of this fact.
kavita lochan (3 years ago)
Well when you smell something you can also taste it in your mouth. So that could be the reason tooo.
Julie M (3 years ago)
When you rub the garlic clove on your foot, it releases the garlic oils into the air. Our taste is linked to our nasal passages so when the oil goes into your nose as you breathe or into your mouth as you breathe, the sense of tasting the garlic comes. If you lean back from the garlic or have another person do the experiment, you will not experience the sense of tasting the garlic. While I have no doubt that some toxic chemicals in products can and do penetrate the skin, it has everything to do with molecular weight. If the Molar Mass of a chemical is higher than 350, it can and does penetrate the skin. Simply look up the MSDS sheets for whatever chemical you are suspicious of and see what its Molar Mass or molecular weight is. Some of these chemicals are very drying to the skin, however and they can cause microscopic breaks in the epidermis which will then allow the chemicals to penetrate into your body regardless of molecular weight. Our first defense is, of course, unbroken skin. Lipstick is huge to avoid because, hello.....we lick our lips.

I agree the garlic test seems kinda dumb bc I can taste garlic in my mouth when I'm smashing it or cooking it. But now I'm totally freaked out about my skincare and cosmetic choices. Eeekk :/
Marifer Arias (4 years ago)
Since garlic has such a strong smell, and since taste and smell go hand in hand, it is only logical that you'll start to taste the garlic even though it's not even near your mouth. Try the same experiment, but don't rub it on your skin, only smell it, and you'll certainly taste it as well.
Luiza Esmeraldo (4 years ago)
awsome!!!! congrats for the interview!!!

Paula's Choice has many effective products with scientifically proven ingredients for the skin.
Lendoxia (4 years ago)
You taste garlic because you can smell it and that triggers your brain thinking you are eating it, the same if you smell pizza from the oven you could taste it in your mouth and it's nowhere near your skin. If we absorbed everything we put on our skins we would probably be dead by now, most of the molecules are just too big to penetrate the skin. There is a trend to spread fear about certain chemicals so they spend more on :natural" and "organic" products. Don't succumb to the hype
Julie M (3 years ago)

+Anna Jimenez  But we can see that our skin absorbs things every day when we apply lotion or anything on our skin (and we don't taste our lotions when we apply them on our skin), garlic thing was gimmicky and unnecessary and most important of all inaccurate. I'm all for informed customers but not everyone is a chemist and has the necessary tools to understand everything they read so it's important when simple articles or videos like this give accurate information and not create the hype
Anna Jimenez (4 years ago)
No offense taken whatsoever! I love hearing feedback. And thanks for the compliment. I miss my bangs. :)
ScarlettAnellecloset (4 years ago)
+Anna Jimenez Your avatar picture is beautifull. I personally consider bangs quite unflattering for most people because they hide the face but you look beyond lovely on that picure. Cheers.
ScarlettAnellecloset (4 years ago)
+Anna Jimenez Oh, darling Anna i didn`t mean to be disrespectful. This emotionless internet comunication can lead to such conclusion but that was not my intention. I completely agree that skin is able to absorb some supstances but today those are stil (mostly) topically administered drugs. Insulin is probably the medication that would be most usefull for topical aplication but today`s science is still unfortunately helpless in that area. Or cosmetcally speaking how suitable would be if we could just apply hyaluronic acid and achieve in practise effect instead of superficial hydration.

Enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing!

I think that the rationale for rubbing the garlic on the foot is because it is farthest away from the mouth and the test is to demonstrate how fast our skin can absorb ingredients into the blood stream. As I saw in your demo, it seemed to only take seconds for the flavor to get to your sense of taste.
