Have you tried shooting into a deep umbrella? If not definitely give that a shot pun intended 😂 it's a really good setup to use and the lighting is even across the models face I think you would love a setup like that

Great set up and lecture. You get fantastic light quality with a single strobe. Which lens are you using?

Hi Kayleigh! thanks for the informative video! I wanted to ask you how much ambient light was there? from the video, it looks like there was enough ambient light there to serve as fill, so you didn't need to employ a reflector or 2nd light from below to reduce shadows. if it had been dark, light from the beauty dish alone would have been quite contrasty as well as background being quite darker. is that correct?

Thanks for posting this video! It was really useful information to me and easy to follow. Your studio work is beautiful!

I would love more of this. I have a hard time with understanding and using lighting. What I found most helpful is when you explained WHY and HOW the setup works. thank you so [email protected]

Hi Kayleigh! Love the pictures with daylight combine with beauty dish. What was your camera setup to be able to capture both lights in this case? Thanks for reply!
Vera Change (7 months ago)
It is! I love editing as well, there is endless creative options when comes to beauty. Will look forward for more videos like this from you ☺️

No problem! I'm still learning a lot with studio and beauty photography in particular, but I'd highly recommend it! It's a lot of fun. 😊

Thank you very much! I am getting into beauty photography and trying what I feel most comfortable in, i love the idea of daylight filled with soft beauty dish light. I am little worried about the temperature only. Thanks again I appreciate your reply!

Hi Vera, thanks so much! 😊 The camera settings I used with the ambient light were: 1/100 f8 ISO100

My favorite so far. Please do more videos like this. By the way what was the settings to allow the ambient light into the shoot. And was most of the shots taken at 70mm focal length?
Kayleigh June (7 months ago)
Thanks a lot Jeff! 😊 The majority were taken at 70mm. The settings for the photos with the ambient light were: 1/100 f8 ISO100

Just a little tip for what its worth.... Set the LCD image to display in the same orientation at the sensor.... So in portrait mode the image makes use of all the entire screen, without the black bars either side, as in 3:49 ..... :)

Thanks John! 😊

Some remarks - you said that the beautydish is 1 to 1,5 m away, but during your shooting is it much further away leading to a smoother progression from light to shadows. We also see that you take a picture and than instantly look at your camera's screen. Tell the model that you do a test and than shoot while keeping contact. Have fun!
Kayleigh June (7 months ago)
Hi Peter! The light was definitely on average around 1-1.5 metres away, it may have been moved around slightly but the distance mainly remained the same. Particularly when I'm photographing beauty, there's a lot of things to consider especially with everything being in complete focus. That's why with a few of those images, I'm a little more 'careful' with each shot, especially when I'm trying to get a specific kind of shot. Usually though I'll take a group of around 5-6 images and then have a look at the screen. Thanks for watching! 😊

The audio is weird. Sounds like theres only audio on the left (yes tried different headsets)
+AleksanderEspelid That means the sound was recorded mono, not stereo. Headphones are stereo and will split the sound among the two for more depth and richness. If recorded in stereo, you'd hear it in both, if recorded mono, it will go only to one headphone ;)
AleksanderEspelid (7 months ago)
The issue only occurs when using headphones. Playing from a laptop is ok :)
Khandie Photography (7 months ago)
Same here. Tinny sounding and left only
Kayleigh June (7 months ago)
Audio sounds okay to me! Unfortunately I'm not an audio expert though by any means. I had to use my laptop to record, maybe that's the issue.😁

What software did you use to depict the setup?
Kayleigh June (7 months ago)
There's a few different lighting diagram builders online, however for this video I used this one: http://www.lightingdiagrams.com 🙂
