3:46 am I wrong or is the beat sayin "hoe" for several times because the girl is showin of her breasts in such a semi-nude way?
Dorrie McVeigh (1 month ago)
Great video and really helpful. Id just like to add that it would be awesome if you could perhaps include a quick drawing of where you place the lights in each set up. It was kind of hard to see as most the time the camera is facing towards the set. Also maybe at the end of each lighting setup would be great if you could just recap what power each light was on. Thanks so much!!
yvethedefinition (1 month ago)
How do you get that smooth skin tone look to your models? I really tried but I honestly can’t do that. I had downloaded your frequency separation and I tried applying it to a picture I took and it was horrible. 😩 please help

Hahaha were not all Lizzie McGuires little brother, you can’t just say everything that costs $250-$300 is “really cheap” and budget friendly hahaha

Okay real question here : If I want to reproduce the light from the 1 light setup, I need a cobra flash with a trigger right ? Because each time they take a picture, there is a flash light. Or is it a trigger for the light that is in the umbrella ? Kind of confused here Even if I need a flash, I don't mind, but i'm kind of intrigued anyway :)

She’s either really, really super cute.... or, she’s a dude. I can’t decide. 😁
Marybeth De Santos (1 month ago)
Love this video and I always wondered what happened to Lizzie McGuire's little bro lol! Question: what was the colour temp of the first set up? Was it 5000K or higher? I loved the one light set up but it looked warmer. it would look so great for video too! :)
Toni B (1 month ago)
Ahaha you can buy V flats from Samy's Camera on Fairfax. They run out of the 10 inch ones pretty fast and the thin ones bend after awhile and are not that great. Great video!

Hey guys did ya use a lighting meter to check? Just wondering
S Kanjilal (2 months ago)
Thanks Jessica & Jake Thomas for this very informative and practical video on lighting, please tell us something about your settings, camera & lens you both are using for those beautiful shots, want more such
Sorry $400 is not cheap. I would suggest not jumping into studio photography until you actually know Photography is something you’re going to stick with. I much rather save for nice glass and an updated camera body rather than invest in lights at first.

The model just stares at jessica hahhaha
Can't even pay attention because I'm thinking of Lizzie McGuire 😂😂
KMDC photography (2 months ago)
Great video, thanks for uploading! Some questions if i may; 1. is that background a mid-grey or dark grey? 2. the strobe you used. Was it continuous lighting or flash? would this all work for continuously lit strobes but set at different powers ?
True Blui (2 months ago)
I'm confused...so, with the one light set up is she using the flash on the camera?
timzanation (2 months ago)
No. The object on her camera shown at 5:20 in the flash shoe is a wireless transmitter.
Mahym (2 months ago)
Super budget set up. All you need is a hangar. :D
J.J. Wolfe (2 months ago)
Ok, she's an actual profesh model. Amazing work guys

Gimbal Enthusiast (2 months ago)
That is not a one light set-up..you have lots of lights there...plus flash once you trigger your camera....it all compensate in your image..lol
Don Cooper (2 months ago)
The lighting was great. He knows what he is doing. However, don't overlook the model. She was incredible. Great poses one after another with very little direction.
Dominga Shataun (2 months ago)
Jessica made me feel good about not knowing everything about lighting f stop ratios yet! hahaha, Im using street lights and sun like her too rn hahaha

Bjørn Hagen Aakre (2 months ago)
Nice video, a lot to learn for beginners about how much a v-flat or reflector can do for you when using just one light. So many over complicate their setups straight away, adding lights before trying a one light setup first. Great to discover Jake as well. Lots of good content on IG.
Zulema Felix (2 months ago)
I still picture him as the little boy from Lizzie McGuire... sorry not sorry

Jessica Kobessei How come even though you have a light source, you guys are still using a flash on your camera? Wouldn’t that add extra unnecessary light?
Ll G (1 month ago)
The light source for the video is a constant light source. Unless you are using a longer shutter speed and/or a higher ISO , it won't be enough light to expose your subject properly. Typically, the exposure is a completely black screen, and then when the flash is used, the only light that can be seen is coming from the flash. For example, take a look at the image at 4:20, and notice where the shadows are on the model's face. The video prior doesn't show any of those shadows and the background also shows as a brighter gray.
Jakn Leon (2 months ago)
I'm pretty sure on the camera is a trigger for the strobes and even when a flash is on the camera it is normally used as a trigger. The flash usually won't fire
BartSkol (2 months ago)
Fantastic video! To the point with enough details for anyone to start and beautiful examples. Great editing on the video.

Would have been interesting to keep the same clothes to see the true differences.

Please what's the name of the continous lighting kit you used as key light....
Sam Haskins (2 months ago)
LOVE the single source soft light, it gave a rembrant effect without using all 3 lights
Aarón Alborés (2 months ago)
Yeah, that 86” modifier is not so expensive, but you need a studio with really high ceiling, and a really strong stand to hold it, among many other things. Now you can see it is expensive. Don’t get me wrong, i think the video is great and the lightning setups are awesome, but this is not for a beginner’s budget
Shawn Caswell (3 months ago)
How do you get that golden glow on her skin? Also what brand is that umbrella in that size?
Kenyatta Whigham (3 months ago)
Jessica with kind of camera are you using and lens?
piyush kandalkar (3 months ago)
Not cheap at all
Minh Thang (3 months ago)
Most silly question, I should know but I don't... but how did her and Jake get those photos pop on their laptop after they snap?
Minh Thang (2 months ago)
Thank you! I figured it out recently and felt so dumb ahaha
Clare McCahill (2 months ago)
Minh Thang Tethered shooting. The camera is connected to the laptop using a cable. Capture One and Lightroom support tethering for many cameras.

Awesome results ^^ I like Jake's last portrait though :) thank you for all those usefull informations, it is good to know that we can begin with a low budget light and do amazing pictures anyway :) Talent only is needed :)
Hugo Guzman (3 months ago)
This was awesome! Not only did I learn a ton, but this is the first video where the model actually gets to talk and give her opinion. I hate when photographers treat their models like they're just tools. Great work you guys!
