We didn't want to leave you guys hanging so here is what's going on with this Mirenesse defamation drama. They're still claiming we damaged the brand and since they can't accept that we have developed an opinion of the brand over the years we figured we would explain to you why we developed that opinion and let you know where we stand now.
One year later... the update! https://beautynews.podiant.co/e/362c44d1e97b2a/

Way to go Mirenesse! Good on you for making yourselves very unpopular now with the 60.000 viewers. How many custumers did your bullying cost you? Are you pleased with yourself now? Do you feel accomplished for making people feel bad, tricking and misleading custumers and wasting these two girls' time? Does that feel like your true purpose in life?
Oh wait! I've got an awesome marketing strategy for you, Mirenesse! I promise you, it works like a charm. A true tried and tested money earning strategy. Are you ready?
You make your prices and shipping cheaper, you do sales like 20% on black friday or buy one get one half priced. You improve your products, make them really good, and then you open up one of those nice uncensored review sections and YOU LEAVE THE WORLD BE. The great advantage to this strategy is that you won't have to pay people to scavange the internet to look for bad reviews. It will all be a happy merry life with lots of kind custumers and lots or kind reviews and you wouldn't even have to censor it! Who would have thought that was possible huh? That's quite magical, such a strategy, isn't it? I'm telling you, groundbreaking.
I have only heard and experienced great and wonderful things on Mirenesse for many years. Now with this video you are ditching on them again shame on you, try and ditch on another higher end brand and see how the viewers react.
No they actually did not just a viewer hearing bad reviews that went a bit too far on your part really. Its one thing not to like something but the way you talk its not a good look. I don't hear you saying, not that I watch your channel that not to buy from Becca or ABH, just small Aussie brands like Mirenesse and Klara cometics from what I have watched.
Been watching your vids for a few days now. Nothing has made me want to subscribe more after reading your response to their solicitors. Well done, ladies. You've a new subscriber and won my complete respect!
Mirenesse is always featured on the website Hautelook ALL the time..(its a website owned by Nordstorm and features clothing/beauty at discount prices) I bought some of their foundations for $9-12 US dollars anf they were 5ml each..WAY over priced and I was shocked at the retail prices!
Now this is so weird. I just watched a video that Nikki Joy from Australia posted about a hair masque from Mirenesse and that the company was going to pick 25 viewers and send them a free masque to try. She was sent this masque from them for a review.
just listened to the update podcast!! I had a sneaky look at their reviews on Sephora AU... heaps and heaps of them use American spelling/grammar (Mom instead of Mum, etc) which makes me think you guys are right about them leaving their own reviews!
I called them out about it on Facebook a few years ago and reported them to the ACCC. Kinda gross and hypocritical that they would threaten to sue bloggers for saying bad things about their products (eh herm, Lime Crime anyone?).
So yeah, they were pretending to offer free products but charging extraordinary shipping fees (like $12 for each product). If that were on ebay, they would've been banned haha.
I realize this is an old video but... legally speaking, YouTube is an American video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States. Here in the United States, we have a thing called the 1st amendment which includes freedom of speech. Of course we have other laws protecting people from hate crimes and defamation, but that's another story. Freedom of speech means freedom of expression. You posted your video (containing your opinions) on a website based in the United States which could protect you under that first amendment law. Next, this brand would have to PROVE AND SHOW SPECIFIC CLEAR DAMAGES (since your video went up, that directly based on views of your video, they lost considerable sales and thus incurred damages as a DIRECT result of THAT PARTICULAR video.) If you want to be on the safe side, add disclaimers to your videos like "these are solely the personal opinions of __ " and so on and remove the video in question. But this brand would have had to prove actual damages that resulted from your video. When I visit this brand's website, I see ZERO negative reviews. In my opinion, a few negative reviews makes you look like a real person and a real brand because no one brand can please everyone all of the time.
checking the comments to see if there's been any update information on this.
Hailey, I can't sleep so had your sampled out series on as background noise and laughed when you mentioned some mirennese products... you're like 'this is shit, and this is shit', lol. (you know, those products you apparently never used )
You were clearly expressing your own opinions - a bad review does not equal defamation and it's awful that Mirenesse are trying to bully you like this. Sorry you've got this on your plates and know that you have our support!
I just want you guys to know that I completely agree with everything you said. It's always very concerning when a company particularly makeup companies cannot handle when they're given a bad review because it really makes you think about if their practices are legitimate, if their products are safe to use, all because you definitely think they are hiding something from the people purchasing a product.I, at the moment, ama very small business owner of DeadManDesigns and I do a lot of artwork work, I do small prop pieces like gauntlets and headpieces, and things like that and anytime I'm giving up a bad review or concerning review from a customer (they'll call me or email me or message me on facebook) I use it as a learning tool. Because customer reviews and what a customer thinks it's definitely very important because that brings me money. They're what really helps my business move forward.I find it exceptionally sad that is someone that's had my business license less than a year I have a better grasp on how to handle practice is like that. I can only assume that this company has been in business for a number of years and they're turning to strong-arming their customers into giving them better reviews and deleting the things that they really don't want people to see. I think it's sad I think it's exceptionally pathetic and I think that they really need to reevaluate how they're running their business. This is definitely not an okay thing to do ever. I don't care who you are, I don't care what kind of business you run, it is never okay to strong-arm the people that are helping your business move forward.I think that they're being very unprofessional and if anything they should be the ones getting sued for essentially lying to customers and using what could be considered unethical business practices. Regardless as to whether or not what they're doing is legal I think really on a broad-spectrum it is exceptionally unethical. The kind of sales they run seem very attractive especially to people that don't have a lot of money to spend and then suddenly you've got $100 in shipping fees and you're like holy s*** where did all this come from?. I don't know where they learn their business practices and I don't know what makes them think that threatening you and threatening to essentially run you out of any money you have and telling you that you've done something wrong is an okay thing to do because it's not.You have all of our support and we all hope that you get through all of this just fine. And this particular company can go f*** themselves and suck on their own douchebagary for all I care.
I like some of their products and some are just garbage. The secret mascara (whatever it's called) dries out to quickly in the tube. The lipsticks I like a lot. Foundations are hit or miss. I like their marble blushes and don't like their skin care at all. That sonic cleanser thing they sell for $99 lol, I got one from Costco for $14.
I agree about their aggressive tactics. They used to send me several emails a day, which just littered up my email until I unsubscribed to their emails. I always thought it was fishy how they only have positive comments on their website. I wrote a semi-negative review on their products and it just lasted a few days before it was gone!
- No idea who they are.
- Love how you wrote "have more important shit to do" lol
- You were talking about how they should listen to the negative opinions and I thought about a bad experience I had with urban decay (moldy lipstick) and they helped immediately, sent a check and asked me to send the product back for testing. I used to like them a lot, now I love them. Mirianesse or whatever their name is should take a hint!
Wow, you two have some big [email protected] for making this video and I’m so proud of you. It’s nice to see two ladies stand up for themselves with honesty and dignity, rare online now a days! Keep it up, please!
Excellent outcome! I'm glad y'all didn't have to waste any additional time or money with this company's shady tactics. The silver lining is that you showed others how to stand up to companies that try to shut down free speech.
6 months later I still didn't know this brand or what they are 😅
Great job girls ! Thank you for your honesty !
The words you guys are saying are very importent for a normal girl like me who is thinking of making a own youtube channel or even making a blog on a website .
I watch these video's for 2 months now and everyday I am binch watching a shit load .
I really love the way you guys are doing your video's .
I'm just becoming to love makeup for like a couple of months but I find it very hard to choose what I wanna buy , the video's you make aren't just fun but help me see how a product is , not just the fancy picture the company use or an youtuber that don't want that they going to ditch them from the pr list .
( normal I don't react , likely I only watch , just like the facebook group I love to watch and read the things other people say and wat they are asking )
This is disgusting. Surely someone on their staff has the brains to realize that treating people with this kind of attitude is not the way to run a business. People can only react according to the way they are treated. If they’re treated negatively, they will react negatively. If they’re treated positively people will react positively. Simple maths.
I'm a us consumer I have never heard of miraness. But as an educated consumer I am fully capable of doing my own research and deciding to purchase or not to purchase. I love your videos!!!! You're both awesome.
I believe many of us will never be buying any of their products solely on the basis of how they act towards reviewers. You did a great job, thank you for your honesty and courage. Thank you for letting us know girls.
I've just received a settlement after spending the last 11 years in the Supreme Court battling one of the biggest bullies of all time, TAC, in relation to a car accident 22 years ago.
Hang in there!!! You're lucky to have each other for support, but please know that we, your public, are here for you also.
This is actually the first video of yours that I've seen. I have now subscribed to your channel and will be going back to watch more of your videos.
Again, HANG IN THERE!!! Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Wishing you all the best,
it's eerily similar to the way the (thankfully few) manipulative people I've met irl talk... like really intentionally confusing & circular & full of spin / unable to answer things w actual clarity or put forward a specific point... the evasiveness around policies, confusing site etc only adds to that feeling
They’re fucking idiots. You can’t make a shit product and then THREATEN to SUE someone because of their personal opinion. That’s just how you say stuff and if it bothers them, they need to get thicker skin. They legally aren’t a scam but can they legally sue you for speaking your opinion? 😒
I have to say, as a current Law student, I absolutely LOVED your reply to the solicitor's emails on behalf of Mirenesse! The way you laid the facts out, and countered every single one of their vague and flaky arguments so beautifully - aahh, I eat that shit up! Fucking brillant. And the way you keep collecting evidence, both secondary and primary, is so brilliant. And, of course, the last line has to be the best thing I've ever seen - it concludes your argument so perfectly! Well done, ladies!
Tati has just done a review of their Instant Lash Transplant kit- she was definitely unimpressed and said so... I wonder if she will be receiving a threatening letter from Mirenesse's lawyers too? Should be interesting!
Mirenesse is a scam, pure and simple! Avon, Mary Kay, and Younique are ripoffs and pyramid schemes, but Mirenesse is a scam along the lines of the videos that promise to tell you the “7 simple secrets of...” but buy this e-book that just has circular bs content for 50$ and subscribe to a website for exclusive empty content for a ridiculous amount!
And to threaten legal action?!?! Absolutely ludicrous!
I seriously don't get why they'd do this. It's an OPINION. Opinions can vary from person to person, and they can vary anywhere from barely noticeable to completely different in every way. Just like you both had negative experiences, one of you could've had terrible experiences and the other could say these are the best products ever. It's just an opinion.
I received and used one of their lipsticks several years ago and it was terrible. I mentioned this in a regrets video. Didn't
know their marketing practices were bad then. Don't like their products, simple as that.
after looking up this brand, are they a little expensive or is the us dollar that much different there. just look at their web site its crazy you could shop at a high end department store here for less
I've never heard of the brand. I'm very leery of a product being offered for free plus the cost of shipping. I ran across an ad like that and decided to try it. Didn't have ANY idea until I'm filling in the fields online to purchase, that after the first "free" product, my bank acct would be auto debited $40 every month! I quickly backed out of the website and was grateful I hadn't entered any payment info yet! Buyer Beware!!!!
As a beauty consumer, i somehow ended up with a bombardment of spam from Mirenesse. Received a few "free" products and found that they were quite nice, however their "deals" scream scam. Think i may have even got as far as adding items to an online basket, before being frightened off with the pushiness of their deals.
I have also had experience of mirenesse spamming fax machines. They must have somehow got a couple of fax numbers and thought that if they keep sending faxes, suddenly someone would decide to check them out and buy something. Not sure how that works for them
I have to completely agree. I didn't know about the shady stuff with the brand mostly because I am in the states. I have tried some of their products in the past (I think it was the mascara and maybe some eyeshadow duo). I personally hated them. The shadows had zero pigment (it was like a giant pink shadow with a smaller spot of brown), and it just wasn't worth me going through the effort of ordering from them again considering I think my aunt had ordered a kit from like a home shopping network.
I've wanted to try their eyeliners for ages. My bff has a beauty blog and she got their eyeliner pencils as PR for a review and now I wonder what they would've done if she'd hated them. She loved them which is why I have wanted to try Mirenesse for so long. Fuck that shit now, you fucked yourself out of a potential customer Smearenesse.
I just found you lovely ladies and I'm so happy that I did. I am not familiar with this brand but I do not like they did this to you as anyone is allowed an opinion. How horrible they did this. We have a store here called Khols and they sell clothes and home goods and such. They have a sale every day 40% off (at least) the retail price which is absurdly over priced. No one buys anything unless it's on sale or using one of their 50% off coupons they send out with free car washes. So people feel like it's a bargain and it's not.
wow you guys should be alouded to say how you feel about a product, without the company attacking you guys its your opinion and you can say it! ik some products work for some people but not for all, you wanted to help your views and save them money why does it matter if it hurts a company.
I'm really sorry this is happening to you two! It's kind of a double edged sword: through this medium, you've been "discovered" and engaged with negatively by a brand here, but at the same time you have the ability to share this experience with your audience and inform us of the misconduct. Fortunately, businesses that engage in these kinds of practices are generally exposed if they react in such a volatile way- especially in the online beauty community. I hope this blows over and the company decides not to expend their resources to go after you two. At the end of the day, you have our support.
its the same thing as that stupid evie blender!!! they are so sensitive over someone not liking their precious product that they just try to get revenge but end up making themselves look like complete idiots. whats the latest update with the mirenesse story?? very interested to hear! love you guys!!!
Have you seen a lawyer? If not I would, this could be very serious and you could find yourself in some serious trouble. I agree this video won't make the situation any better and you might have let things be for the moment, at least until the situation was over. I hope things work out and they drop the suit, fingers crossed.
