Implementing Freemium with Google play In-app Billing API

396 ratings | 33702 views
Try the TrivialDrive sample app at https://github.com/googlesamples/android-play-billing to get started! Freemium is a product pricing strategy where instead of charging the user for the app download, you make money on in-app purchases or even upsell the user to a subscription. In this video, Jarek Wilkiewicz will show you how you can implement freemium using the Google play In-app Billing API. For more information about In-app Billing API, visit: https://developer.android.com/google/play/billing/billing_overview.html. To learn about different monetization strategies check out the “Develop a Sustainable Financial Strategy” course on Udacity: https://www.udacity.com/course/app-monetization--ud518. The 2012 - 2014 IAP revenue projections in this video were provided by App Annie, you can find more information in this blog post: http://blog.appannie.com/mobile-app-advertising-and-monetization-trends-2013-2018/. Hi, can subscription apps be generated using React Native through EXPO? or can the Developer access Google API with a RESTful call while the user is using the App within webview?

Anyone actually implemented it?I so lost in that very, very bad google tutorial. The part of renaming gave me a lot of mistakes, red marks etc...Right now i'm stuck at "Error:Execution failed for task ':app:compileDebugAidl'. > java.lang.RuntimeException: com.android.ide.common.process.ProcessException: org.gradle.process.internal.ExecException: Process 'command 'C:\Android\sdk\build-tools\23.0.2\aidl.exe'' finished with non-zero exit value 1". Can anyone help?

Turns out that Google's design decision that "the Google Play Backend does not make a distinction between a consumable item [...] or a non-consumable item" (3:21) is fundamentally flawed and leads to subtle problems when dealing with a user running an app on multiple devices. The gist of it is the following: Let's say that the item was successfully purchased on one device, but the app crashes before the item is consumed. If the user then opens the app on another device with the same account, one of two things happens depending on how the app is written: Either, the purchased item gets credited on the wrong device (if the app is written to the documentation provided by Google), or the user cannot purchase the item on the other device until he/she re-opens the app on the original device to allow for cleanup. More details here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30921789/working-around-api-purchase-logic-flaws-for-consumables-in-google-plays-billing (see Problem 2). I'm posting this here as well since I'm having a really hard time reaching anyone at Google about this issue...

I can see Trivial Drive being a top selling app, just as cookie clicker was a joke but went on to be wildly successful.
