The detail in these pictures are incredible, fantastic job!
Nice stuff as always Jeff. High key however isn't a result of just shooting on white, it's when their is a higher proportional amount of highlights and mid tones in the shot over shadows/darks creating a very bright blown out look.

I am always impressed to see photographers working with minimal equipment and delivering a perfect result. Too many photographers on Youtube are trying to make us believe that it takes a crazy set-up to have a similar result.
Phanit Savannareach (1 year ago)
Very good advice

True what you say about creating beautiful images without any complicated equipments and also when you`re on the low bugget.. Many people thinks..that more things you have better your outcome is gonna be..NOT TRUE.. i work also with less equipment..and you know why?? coz i hate carrying the things oround the place...LOL...but i use ONLY what i need in any location and any situation THE OUT COME IS IMPORTANT and your Creativity...Cheers J.

Great info but that music is rather annoying.
I loved this tutorial. I love that someones showing you dont have to have a bazillion dollars of equipment to get beautiful solid images. Sometimes simple is better.. Beautiful model and just a super awesome sold tutorial :)

Peet Blacksheep (4 months ago)
Flare from which light?
adamec145 (1 year ago)
Ayodimeji Olugbewesa Check your shutter speed. It your gear can't do hight speed sync. try to go with something like 125/1s or 160/1s
Hugh Anderson (1 year ago)

+jeff Rojas Is that the 16inch white beauty dish your using or is it the 20inch silver beauty dish? Do you have a preference between white and silver?
pellier08 (2 years ago)
Hard to believe this is an objective opinion... Is commercial marketing still believable?
tertulious tert (8 months ago)
pellier08 awwww you poor thing, lol
Jj Benz (1 year ago)
Photographer is one. their is plural
paintingtracey (1 year ago)
I don't know that this is actually billed as a "review" as such and I did not expect it to be. It doesn't even have "review" in the title and he does not say the word "review". This video had a lot of great ideas and we got them for free. I feel like you are being unfair. Bottom line, Jeff gives you great ideas in a fashion that is quick and pleasant. Yes it is paid for by Phottix, so you know he is not going to talk about the weaknesses of the products, but he also doesn't say they are better than any other products. These are principals that you can employ with your own equipment. I know I will and do. He is also a really nice genuine person. I think any photographer that wants to up their game would do well to follow him and purchase his offerings.
Jeff Rojas (1 year ago)
Because I mentioned names of the brands I used? I'm here to help you LEARN for FREE and a company helped me do that. If you can't see that, then let's put it simply this way, like any other "singer," I sell albums and concerts. If you're expecting to come to a show for free or get a free download, someone is flipping the bill because I am not a starving artist. Want to pay for a ticket to see me in concert? I have lighting tutorials in my store where I speak candidly. I'm a photographer, business owner, and entrepreneur and my time is both limited and valuable. That my friend is just simple business. Phottix invested in my time so that YOU did not have to spend YOUR hard earn money, so in reality, you should thank them. Instead of looking at things negatively, look at things with a positive mindset and wear an entrepreneurial hat.
pellier08 (1 year ago)
Biased education in this example. I am just a little disappointed. It's like following my favourite singer who suddenly decides to do a pop album to reach more people and make more money. I think it's disappointing.
Paul Allan (2 years ago)
Good video - but the music is distracting and annoying. Thanks

Vanitas Foto (1 year ago)
Jeff Rojas I doubt it is the blatant use of the bum of your model... And that is what I am talking about...
Jeff Rojas (1 year ago)

K.A. Gilligan (1 year ago)

Thanks Juan! :)
José Campos (2 years ago)
great review!!!! what is your settings on the big softbox for high key?
S. RusseLL (1 year ago)
The best way to know how much light you have/need is with a light meter. Your histogram will never tell you how much you need; all the histogram tells you is the distribution of the light in the frame. The Sekonic L308S can be purchased on ebay for about $50 US. Best investment I ever made was a light meter.
Kundan Baruah (1 year ago)
Hi Jeff, can you just make a video using speedlite, how to get that highkey background. I am struggling how to get that by looking at the histogram. Just a small one would help, Thanks!
Jeff Rojas (1 year ago)
You can't really meter the light behind her because it's not suppose to be "Correctly exposed." Ideally you want to find a setting that creates all white light. :)
