Sunken Polar Expedition Ship Found - Took Robert F Scott to South Pole

16 ratings | 2645 views
A U.S. team says it's discovered the S.S. Terra Nova, a polar exploration ship that sunk off the coast of Greenland in September 1943 after carrying Captain Robert Scott to the South Pole in 1910. The Schmidt Ocean Institute says its survey team found the whaler while testing echo sounders off the southern coast of Greenland. The S.S. Terra Nova famously carried a British exploration team led by Robert Falcon Scott to the South Pole in 1910. The men successfully reached the South Pole but all five froze to death during their walk over the Ross Ice Shelf. The S.S. Terra Nova sank after hitting an iceberg while carrying supplies during World War II. But it is close to the UK which is where Scott lived... and the description does say this was AFTER taking him to the South Pole.
