I always find the "banana-tab" such a ridiculous example of intelligent design. What are coconuts then? A big F U to everyone? It's not designed for us at least if it was intelligent design.

Evolution has a major problem, Darwin's finches evolved larger beaks (not in this video). No new species were create. Why is that?
Sharingansandninja (1 year ago)
A nice video, well put together. However, it would have been nice to add in the fact that what is happening is truly not simple, but highly complex. Some cells are more complex than others. According to one reference, how simpler cells could develop into more complex cells is “often rated the second major evolutionary mystery, after the origin of life.” Scientists have discovered within each cell intricate molecular machines composed of protein molecules that cooperate to perform complex tasks. These tasks include transporting and converting nutrients into energy, repairing parts of the cell, and conveying messages throughout the cell. Could random mutations and natural selection account for the assembling and functioning of such sophisticated components? Many find that concept difficult to accept. Animals and humans develop from a single fertilized egg. Inside the embryo, cells multiply and eventually specialize, taking on different shapes and functions to form distinct parts of the body. Evolution cannot explain how each cell “knows” what to become and where it should move within the organism. Scientists now realize that for one kind of animal to develop into another kind of animal would require that changes take place within the cell, at the molecular level. Since scientists cannot demonstrate how evolution can produce even the “simplest” cell, is it plausible that random mutations and natural selection could be responsible for the different kinds of animals on the planet? Regarding the structure of animals, Michael Behe, professor of biological sciences, says that while research “has revealed unexpected, stunning complexity, no progress at all has been made in understanding how that complexity could evolve by unintelligent processes.” Human beings are conscious and self-aware, have the ability to think and reason, and possess moral qualities such as generosity, self-sacrifice, and a sense of right and wrong. Random mutations and natural selection cannot explain the existence of these unique qualities of the human mind. All of these things would have been really nice to include in the video.

Bananas actually do have seeds! They're much much smaller than from the "original bananas" but you can still see them in many bananas. They're very small and either black/dark brown lining the middle length of bananas

I highly doubt this guy understands how evolution works. Also, the explanations are so dumb that it is not suitable as a learning material whatsoever. More like something to show to a primary school kids, before they get to learn accurate science facts.

False. God made this world made in six days, with his voice(Jesus). "In the beginning was the Word and the word was God, the same was in the begging with God." "Nothing was made that was not made by Him."

Pete Nicholson (2 years ago)
When you hear things like "you share 50% of your DNA with a banana" or "90% of your DNA with a slug" - presumably there's a lot of potential stuff that DNA could make which it just doesn't exist. I mean if me and a banana differ in only 50% of the DNA, if you took the 50% of the DNA where we are *the same* and changed it, what would you end up with?!

A fundamental part of science is probability. We accept or reject scientific findings based on probabilities. Apply the same scrutiny to evolution. Then apply it to the Bible and prophecy. Where probability rejects evolution as an intellectually satisfying explanation for life, the Bible is affected in the opposite way. In the book of daniel (written over 490 years before Christ) the exact year Christ would come is given. It also tells major world events in regards to world powers well in advance by many hundreds of years. It Tells of Babylon falling to Medio-Persia and that next would come greece, later to be split into 4 parts and then Rome would come. It describes Rome as splitting into 10 and that 3 of these rulers would be plucked up by another power. All of this is secular History now. It also describes the Roman Catholic Church as being the satanically powered institution which would persecute Gods people for 1260 years, which also happened in history, from 538 AD -1798 AD. in 1798 the Pope was captured by Napoleon's General and died as a prisoner. The probability of these things taking place by random chance just like it was written so far ahead of time is extremely unlikely. Because of the probability the intelligent choice is to accept the information in the writings as inspired and not written by a humans random guess on future events. Evolution does not have such success with probability. If you do the math on making a single protein you will see that evolution does not hold up. It becomes very intellectually unsatisfying to accept it as an explanation for what we observe

Minimal dislikes on a video about evolution. Faith in humanity SLIGHTLY restored. I guess being Charlie has its benefits? A kind of somber note on the "humans are more evolved" thing... we might have the most power of any species on earth, but that's unfortunately given us a bit too much power over evolution itself. Humanity's carelessness for the environment has driven a lot of species to endangerment and extinction. There are more and more humans and less and less of everything else. Ironically, this is natural selection at work, and even more ironically, most of the people who don't "believe" in evolution are the ones trying the hardest to advance it.
SeventhEve (2 years ago)
It's important to stress that adaptations that help us survive only succeed because they allow us to BREED more, and therefore pass on those genetic adaptations to future generations. Simply keeping us alive is not alone sufficient.

But Charlie, if evolution is about survival, why aren't all the animals we're hunting to extinction evolving? Why didn't the animals we made go extint evolve? Why aren't they adapting to guns?

Doc (2 years ago)
Ok. So my question--- are we "humans" still evolving???
ForgetMeNot (2 years ago)
Good question- yes we are. Humans are always evolving. Remember that your DNA is constantly replicating and it isn't always perfect. Sometimes there are mutations (fundamental for evolution) and new traits are either carried or exhibited.
Patrícia Sayuri (2 years ago)
though... to be fair, we have been developing technologies capable of giving us a certain "immunity" to the selection of nature... I guess especially in the medical field, we don't have that many characteristics that make certain individuals more prone to survive better (well, for the exception of the luck of being born in a better suited country but... ) yeah... In sum... we don't die as often

Modern bananas (those you buy at the market) aren't products of natural selection, they're a result of artificial selection. Humans have selectively bred them to look and taste they way they now do.
