Waterworld (1/10) Movie CLIP - Revenge at Sea (1995) HD

03:24
Waterworld movie clips: http://j.mp/1Jan3xI BUY THE MOVIE: http://amzn.to/u6htHi Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: After he is ripped off by a Drifter (Chaim Girafi), the Mariner (Kevin Costner) destroys the man's mast, leaving him adrift for the Smokers. FILM DESCRIPTION: Widely considered to be an expensive failure, Waterworld was an epic vehicle for Kevin Costner, who starred in and co-produced the film, with his friend Kevin Reynolds as director. It was based on a 1986 screenplay by Peter Rader and cost an estimated $235 million, more than any film in history up to that time. Costner eventually fired Reynolds and directed the last few scenes himself. The story was filmed in Hawaii, using several artificial islands, and is set in an apocalyptic future, after global warming has melted the polar ice caps and flooded civilization. The Mariner (Costner) is one of the human beings who has adapted by growing gills. The survivalist lives on a boat on which he is growing a precious tomato plant. He tries to sell the plant and its dirt to the residents of an artificial island built of industrial waste. They imprison him when they discover that he's a mutant with gills. But the island is attacked by the Smokers, a group of oil-guzzling raiders on jet skis headed by the Deacon (Dennis Hopper). The Mariner escapes with Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and her daughter Enola (Tina Majorino). Back at sea, the Smokers repeatedly attack, using planes and boats, until they kidnap Enola. Enola's back is tattooed with a map showing how to get to Dryland, the last unflooded area on Earth. But Deacon, who needs to get to Dryland to replenish the Smokers' oil supply, can't immediately decipher it. Sponges! | JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD

09:44
A sponge might not look like much, but these simple animals with no brain or ability to move have lived on Earth for hundreds of millions of years. They can hunt prey and spawn, and Jonathan demonstrates how in this fascinating segment about the biology of sponges! ********************************************************************** If you like Jonathan Bird's Blue World, don't forget to subscribe! You can buy some Blue World T-shirts & Swag! http://www.blueworldtv.com/shop You can join us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/BlueWorldTV Twitter https://twitter.com/BlueWorld_TV Instagram @blueworldtv Web: http://www.blueworldTV.com ********************************************************************** When people think of a sponge, they usually imagine something like this: a cleaning sponge for washing the dishes…or for washing the car. Cleaning sponges are synthetic these days, but they used to come from the ocean. Back in the days before we had synthetic sponges for housework, cleaning sponges did come from the ocean. They were harvested by hard-hat divers walking along the ocean floor in heavy weighted boots with a rake-like tool to pluck the sponges off the bottom. It was a dangerous and difficult job. Bagfuls of sponges were lifted to the boat above. Immediately, the crew set to work cleaning the sponges. Then they were hung to air dry. After days or weeks at sea, when the boat was full of sponges, they were taken to shore, where they were auctioned to the highest bidder. Finally they were trimmed, sorted and sold to the public. Natural sponges are still harvested in nearly the same way today, but the synthetic sponge has spared the lives of countless ocean sponges! While an ocean sponge looks something like a weird plant, it's actually an animal. In fact, sponges are among the simplest multi-cellular animals on Earth. They live on the bottom of the ocean, attached to a surface and never moving because they can't walk or swim. Some are quite colorful, while others are drab. They also come in all shapes and sizes. There are tube sponges, vase sponges, barrel sponges, rope sponges, encrusting sponges and many other types. Sponges live from the frigid waters of the arctic and Antarctic, to the tropics. On many coral reefs, sponges dominate the sea floor and the drop off. One of the most common sponges on coral reefs is the barrel sponge. Barrel sponges grow to epic proportions, getting larger than a person! Although sponges can't walk or swim, they can feed. They do it by filtering tiny plankton from the water. A sponge is covered with small pores, called ostia, which lead to a system of internal canals and eventually out to one or more larger holes, called oscula. Within the canals of the sponge, chambers are lined with specialized cells called choanocytes, or collar cells. The collar cells have a sticky, funnel shaped collar and a hairlike whip, called a flagellum. The collar cells serve two purposes. First, they beat their flagella back and forth like fans to move water through the sponge. The water brings in nutrients and oxygen, while it carries out waste and carbon dioxide. Second, the sticky collars of the collar cells pick up tiny bits of planktonic food brought in with the water. Sponges are very effective filter feeders, since they are able to capture and eat particles as small as bacteria as well as much larger particles. They might not look like they are doing much, but a simple demonstration shows how effectively sponges can pump water. On a reef in the Caribbean, I make a dive with a syringe filled with a non-toxic dye called fluorescein. By squirting it around the base of some sponges, we can observe how the water is moving by watching what the dye does. Within only seconds, the dye is pumped through the sponges along with the water. As you can see, a sponge is a pretty good water pump, and also a good strainer. Any plankton that goes in with the water, won't come back out through the osculum. Tube sponges are even more spectacular to observe. They pump the dye so furiously that they look like a collection of miniature smoke stacks! Since sponges can't get together to reproduce, they spawn in a way similar to coral. The sperm is released into the water column by the male sponge and finds its way to the female sponges, where fertilization occurs internally. Eventually, the planktonic larvae are released from the female sponge and float around in the water column as plankton for only a few days. They then settle down and start growing. Sponges don't have many predators. There is not much nutritional value in a sponge and they're hard to digest. Hence, very few animals can eat sponges. But something was clearly eating this sponge! A sea turtle is the culprit. Sea turtles are one of the principal predators of sponges, along with a few species of fish and some invertebrates like nudibranchs.

10 Creepy Sea Creatures You Didn't Know Existed

04:33
Did you know any of these amazing and scary deep sea creatures? It's hard to believe these bizarre animals exist. Subscribe: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg 'Hatchet Fish' footage by Filmic Art : www.filmicart.com For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: There is a vast world below the ocean that we have yet to discover in its entirety. While we seem to know nearly everything about the land, the sea still leaves much to be desired. As you go down into the depths of the ocean, you’ll notice a lot will change. For one, you’ll begin to be immersed in darkness. Second, the pressure will change. So, the creatures that have been discovered deep in the oceanic depths are quite different biologically, and they can be quite terrifying to look at. But once we begin to understand them, we can start to learn more about our existence, and even come closer to curing diseases and solving some of the world’s most complex mysteries. However, the sea creatures that have been discovered recently have shown to be just downright creepy and terrifying. You probably recall the Angler Fish, especially if you’re seen the Disney movie, “Finding Nemo”. If you didn’t realize that this fish is the real deal, get ready for new additions to your nightmares. It wasn’t a work of fiction or some messed up fantasy of some Disney Imagineer. The fish that we see in this video is actually female, and the male is a small weakling, wandering the sea to find a female with her pheromones. The male then attaches itself to the female and becomes a parasite. Every part of the male merges with the female except for the testicles, which the female uses to impregnate herself. Jokes aside, this is quite a fascinating process despite how creepy it is. Similar to the angler fish is the Viper Fish, which has a natural extra attachment that illuminates in the darkness of the sea with the purpose of attracting prey. The blob fish is a creature that you wonder what God was smoking or shooting up when he decided to create the blob fish. This fish has no bones, and literally just hangs out on the ocean floor and hopes that food comes to its mouth. Whether you want to worship the blob fish for its epic level of laziness or wonder how in the world the species is still in existence with such an apathetic demeanor, it’s still creepy to look at. Then we have the goblin shark, which is pretty much like the underwater version of the alien from the movie “Alien” due to its protruding mouth. The goblin shark has a large snout and needle-like teeth that are sharp and deadly. For a completely random sea creature, we have the Christmas Tree Worms, which really look like tiny walking fir trees that come in different colors. The branches or hair-like appendages help them breathe as well as consume phytoplankton. Then we have the sea pig, which looks nothing like the pigs we have on land. But instead the sea pig is a multi-tubed foot sea creature that is closely related to the sea cucumber. It eats by pulling water and absorbing organic food. Quite innovative, even though it looks creepy. For more creepy sea creatures, check out the rest of the video for more. World of Change: the Shrinking Aral Sea

02:11
The Aral Sea was once the fourth-largest lake in the world. Fed primarily by snowmelt and precipitation flowing down from faraway mountains, it was a temperate oasis in an arid region. But in the 1960s, the Soviet Union diverted two major rivers to irrigate farmland, cutting off the inland sea from its source. The Aral Sea has been slowly disappearing ever since. These images show how the Aral Sea and its surrounding landscape has changed over the past few decades. 6 Deadliest Sea Snakes

08:03
Evolving from Cobras, Sea Snakes have some of the most toxic and potent venom in the world, some can kill a thousand men in just a few drops. Subscribe for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR Here are 6 of the Deadliest Sea Snakes: 6 - The Yellow Bellied Sea Snake The yellow bellied sea snake is one of the most widely distributed snakes in the world and has been spotted as far north as Russia and as far south as New Zealand. Although they tend to avoid cold water, a few have been spotted of the coast of California during drastic weather changes such as el nino. The yellow belly gets its name from its distinct yellow lower half of its body with a black or brown upper body. The snake does not have many predators and the bright yellow colors warn others that it’s highly venomous. They are fairly docile, but may strike a human if picked up or handled roughly. Their venom is highly toxic and causes muscle pain, stiffness, droopy eyelids, drowsiness, vomiting, paralysis and if not treated quickly, death. 5 - The Beaked Sea Snake The Beaked Sea Snake, also known as the hook-nosed sea snake or common sea snake, can be found lurking at the bottom of the murky waters in estuaries and river mouths of the eastern Indian ocean. They are commonly found in the coastal islands of India and have been spotted near the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and as far north as Vietnam, and as far south as Australia. The snake has a small head with a plump olive green upper body and bluish bands with a white belly. It gets its name from from having a distinct beak-like snout which is slightly curved downward. The beaked sea snake can dive as far as 100 meters below, and can remain underwater for up to hours and typically feeds on bottom feeders such as catfish. Their venom 8 times as potent as a cobra and one bite has enough toxicity to potentially kill 22 humans. Described to be “cantankerous and savage” by experts and is responsible for 90% of sea snake deaths. 4 - The Dubois' Seasnake The Dubois’ Seasnake, sometimes referred to as the Reef Shallows snake, can be found lurking in the coral reefs of Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. It’s color can range from salmon and beige to purple and brown with patterns of dark or cream colored bands and is typically just over 1 meter long. The snake can remain underwater for for up to two hours and is It’s diet consists of mostly small reef fish such as blennies, parrotfish, surgeonfish as well as moray eels. The Duboi’s Sea Snake is mildly tempered and will only strike a diver if threatened or mishandled. 3 - The Horned Sea Snake The Horned Sea Snake, also referred to as the Spiny-Headed Sea snake, is widely spread throughout the coast of Australia and Southeast Asia, but can also be found near in the waters of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. While most sea snakes prey on a variety of small fish, an adult Horned Sea Snake feeds mainly on gobbies, while the young feed on shrimp. The horned Sea snake is also known to be one of the most venomous sea snakes in the world, although there have been no recorded bites on humans. 2 - Banded Sea Krait The Banded Sea Krait can be found in the tropical Western Pacific Seas and the Indian Ocean. The snake gets its name from having distinct black uniform stripes that cover its blueish grey body. It averages 35 inches in length, with a large paddle shaped tail adapted for water. The Banded Sea Krait’s venom is among some of the most toxic on earth and is 10 times more potent than that of a rattlesnake. The snake is well adapted for hunting in shallow waters and coral reefs, which it uses to its advantage in catching prey, which mostly consists of eel and small fish. Although it usually hunts alone, Banded Sea Krait’s have also been known to cooperate together in large numbers as a hunting party. But unlike most other sea snakes, the Banded Sea Krait spends much of its time on land. It will often leave the sea to seek freshwater, digest food, rest, lay eggs, and shed its skin - all on land.Because the snake frequents land so much, human encounters are far more common than other sea snake. Fortunately, the snake is most always docile, even when provoked, and will very rarely bite a human. 1 - Belcher’s Sea Snake The Belcher’s Sea Snake, sometimes referred to as the Faint- Banded Sea Snake, is the most venomous snake in the world. It is said that the snake’s venom is over 100 times that of a cobra, and just a few milligrams is capable of killing over 1,000 humans. It can be found off the coasts of Northern Australia and Southeast Asia, and is commonly present in the Philippines, New Guinea, and the Gulf of Thailand. Fortunately for humans, the Belcher’s Sea Snake is quite docile and has even been said to actually be quite friendly. They will almost never bite humans unless heavily provoked, and even when they do, it is estimated that about 3/4ths of all bites on humans are dry bites.

10 Biggest Sea Creatures Ever Caught

05:42
You won't believe that fishermen actually caught these gigantic sea monsters! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg SyFy recently aired the third film in their so-bad-its-good “Sharknado” series, prompting some to wonder if airborne, tornado-based sharks could actually be real. Okay, so no one is really wondering that. Still, though, the ocean continues to represent a great unknown to us, providing home to countless species, many of which remain a mystery to humanity. The more we learn about what lurks deep below the surface, the more we realize still remains uncovered. With two-thirds of the Earth’s surface covered in water, it stands to reason that a great deal of that space remains unexplored. Of course, just because humankind hasn’t covered every iota of ground along the ocean floor, it doesn’t mean that those areas are uninhabited. All we know for sure is that the truly deepest depths of the world’s oceans continue to offer surprises, even as scientific technology becomes increasingly advanced. New species unlike any others known before are routinely discovered, with entirely new and alien biomes in extreme environments that no life had even been thought possible have challenged our very notions of what life is and how it has evolved. Amidst the cold darkness of a low-lying ocean area with depths that no sunlight can penetrate lies an alien world of incredibly rare and mysterious species. While many are simple, harmless omnivores, they share the ocean floor with some pretty unsettling forces. These ocean-based creatures – those that we know about, anyway – change everything we think we know about fish. Each one has at least one predominant feature that stands out as being unlike anything seen before. Think you know sharks? Well, how about one with a saw-like nose or a frilly, eel-like body. Think you’ve seen some big fish? How about a 17-metre long swimmer or a 900-pound squid or even a 5,000-pound behemoth sunfish? Lurking within the ocean are a number of deadly, threatening, vicious creatures that are naturally designed and programmed to hunt and stalk their prey. Thankfully, most of these monsters live at pressures that humans could never survive at – not that they would survive long down there, anyway. In recent years, Hollywood has sparked a fascination with zombies, aliens and other forces that exist beyond the realms of our planet and that are not steeped in reality. Despite that, some of the strangest and most terrifying creatures in the universe lie beneath the surface of bodies of water with which we are, at least partially, familiar. As we sit on a beach staring out at the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean, we remain blissfully oblivious to all that lurks within. This list seeks to open the door to an entire world of deep sea activity, featuring a cast of creepy and spooky characters that few even know exist. These 10 fish, some of whom may seem to be borne out of your darkest nightmares, are all very real and may give you second thoughts the next time you foray into the ocean. And these are just the ones we know about… Check out these other awesome videos! 10 Shockingly Large Creatures That Actually Exist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9odlL5Ti3dc 10 Things That Will Happen When Humans Go Extinct https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ml_awEqbEE Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRichest.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRichest_Com Instagram: http://instagram.com/therichest For more videos and articles visit: http://www.therichest.com/

Giant Snake Caught in Red Sea

04:17
Monster snake found in Red Sea. Dead giant snake on truck responsible for eating 300 men, divers & tourist. According to a story on Facebook A monster snake of epic proportions that was responsible for the deaths of over 300 tourists and over 120 divers in the Red Sea was found and killed by a special team of Egyptian Scientists and Divers... Images have been floating around the net showing what appears to be the carcass of what definitely has to be the world's biggest snake. The story circulating with the pictures claims the snake was found in the Red Sea. They claimed the snake was over 20 feet tall and as long as 3 ½ school buses...(approx 36 feet) The age of the beast, taken its considerable size into consideration was estimated to be over 100 years old. (2 audio takes) Images included pictures of the dead snake on top of some kind of military transport carrier, next to some tanks, being hoisted up by a helicopter among others... I was intrigued by the images as well as the story. I had my own questions and wanted answers... #1 How big can a snake get? #2 How long can a snake live? And last but not least... Who is they? The longest snake in the world is the reticulated python and can grow up to 30 feet long, and according to the people at Guinness World Records the record for longest snake ever in captivity goes to a python named “Medusa” Even at 30 feet long, that's not even as long as one school bus. Reticulated pythons live on average 15 to 20 years with some having reached 25 to 30 years old. Now... Who... is... they? The story claims a specialized team of scientists and divers tracked and killed the raging reptile and as if to give the story some credence they listed some names... They included Scientists like Drs, Karim Mohammed , Mohammed Sharif and Mr. Sea...as well as specialized divers Abdullah Karim, Wael Mohammed and mahmoud Shafik. This would not be the first time a giant reptile was claimed to be caught on film... This pic was alleged to be taken by Belgian Helicopter pilot Col Remy Van Lierde somewhere over the Congo in 1959 at heights over 500 feet, making the snake an estimated 200 feet long. The colonel also claimed, that when going in for a closer look the giant snake it rose up preparing to attack if the helicopter got any closer. So is this dead, dead sea snake real or a hoax? A few things to consider... When I researched these names, the only references I could find of them only lead back to the snake story on some very less than reputable news sites. Not to mention, one of the Dr's names in the article is “Dr. Mr. Sea.” Drawing upon extensive investigative and forensic knowledge gained by my many years of watching Law and Order and CSI, the original, not those lame copy cats..(really just did a google search). I was able to deduce that these photos and the snake are REAL!!! These absolutely 100% real photos of this authentically dead snake began to show up in 2012 on some Persian and Arabic language web sites. But...they did not originate there. They go back as far as 2010 and were originally published by some Vietnamese IT Students under the title “Vietnam Army Captured Giant Snake.” The only thing not real in the pics were the soldiers, and military vehicles. They are in fact just the kind of really cool toys my dad never bought for me. But the snake is real, but would be at most three feet long. Using forced perspective and some clever positioning, these students were able to execute one of the funnest looking hoaxes I think I've ever seen. Sorry internets! TOP 10 BIGGEST SEA DINOSAURS

11:29
Meet the 10 largest marine dinosaurs that inhabited the planet. It is worth mentioning that these are not exactly dinosaurs but marine reptiles, but they are known because they shared the same period as the dinosaurs, they even have the saurian ending in their names. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -SHASTASAURUS This genus of the Shastasauridae family and the ichthyosaurs order, it is the largest marine reptile ever found. -MOSASAURUS The mosasaur or mosasaurus is a genus of the mosasauridae family, a group of extinct aquatic lizards and carnivores that, as we have seen, also involved the Tylosaurus and the hainosaurus. -SHONISAURUS It was a genus of the Shastasauridae family that belonged to the Ictiosauria order that, like the order of the Plesiosauria, descended from reptiles. -PLIOSAURUS It is a genus of the Pliosauradae family and the Plesiosauria order composed of six species that lived between 155 and 147 million years ago, in the middle and late Jurassic periods in the seas surrounding what is Europe and South America today. -ELASMOSAURUS It is a genus of dinosaur that belongs to the Elasmosauridae family and the Plesiosauria order and that lived eighty million years ago, during the Cretaceous period in the Western Interior Seaway. -TYLOSAURUS It is a genus of marine animals that belongs to the mosasauridae family. Its name means lizard of great protuberance. -HAINOSAURUS It was a marine lizard genus that was part of the mosasauridae family. It lived at the end of the Cretaceous period. Its skull measured 4.9 feet and had jaws with more than 60 teeth. -THALASSOMEDON It is a genus of Elasmosauridae, of the Plesiosauria order. It lived 95 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, in what is now North America. -STYXOSAURUS It is a Elasmosauridae family genus of the Plesiosauria order. It lived between 85 and 71 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, in the seas that crossed and surrounded what is now the United States. -ALBERTONECTES His name means Alberta swimmer. It was discovered thanks to mining excavations that were being carried out in the Bearpaw formation, in Alberta, Canada. -KRONOSAURUS It measured from 29.5 to 34.4 feet in length and was approximately 6.5 feet in height. In total, it could weigh eleven tons. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Us: Trend Max is an education and entertainment channel dedicated to creating interesting Tops and Lists. 10 Biggest Sea Creatures

09:41
From an unbelievable monster squid, to the massive Blue Whale … Here are 10 of the World’s Biggest Sea Creatures! Lion’s Mane Jellyfish This is considered the largest species of jellyfish on the planet. The largest recorded specimen had a bell that measured more than 7.5 feet … and tentacles over 120 feet long. They use their stinging tentacles to capture and eat prey like fish and smaller jellyfish. They come in a variety of colors, and tend to favor cold water environments from the Arctic to the Northern Pacific Oceans. Both of those qualities were captured on film by Alexander Semenov … a marine biologist who took a series of stunning photographs featuring the massive jelly. He had occasion to take the pictures while diving in the remote waters of the White Sea Biological Station on the coast of western Russia. Diving in waters of minus-2 degrees Celsius, the environment is clear enough to see 40 meters underwater. That yielded these images that give the creature an alien look, as it's thin tentacles billow about, searching for prey. Did you know that larger specimens of these jellyfish are usually purple … while smaller, younger jellies are often lighter orange or tan. Monster Squids Giant squids are deep ocean creatures that are said to grow up to 43 feet long … that’s second only to the length of the Colossal Squid, estimated at some 46 feet and can weigh more than 1,600 pounds. They’re two of the largest living organisms in the world, and are often thought to be the real-life basis of the mythical Kraken. In 2015, Russian fishermen encountered a gigantic squid that tried to feast on a fish they were hauling to their vessel. You can see images of the squid captured from video. The men prodded the creature with poles and seemed to drive it away, but it kept grabbing at the fish with its beak. After battling back and forth with the immense creature, it finally gave up and swam away. But in all the confusion, it was never established whether the cephalopod was a giant squid or a colossal squid. We found this photo, but not a whole lot of information to go with it. It’s said to be a huge creature -- obviously -- that was caught in Cambodia. We haven’t been able to identify the location, but it does appear that the animal is surrounded by net fishermen … Although it seems those folks would need more than a net to capture a beast that size! We tend to think this picture may have been manipulated. For one thing, the creature seems to be laying on the bottom of what appears to be a rather shallow pond … so how would it be able to swim to that location? We’re not 100% convinced on this one … What do you think? Blue Whale This is an easy choice for the second spot … the Blue whale is the largest animal known to have ever existed! Because of their massive size, the animals are difficult to weigh … but the heaviest estimated weight recorded was around 191 tons, although experts feel the creatures could easily weigh 200 tons or more. The greatest recorded length for a blue whale was around 104ft. These animals have a diet made up mostly of krill … and they can put away some 40 million krill -- or the near equivalent of 8,000 lbs -- each day. Did you know Blue Whales belong to the same family as Humpback Whales? What sea creature could possibly be bigger than the blue whale? Well, the answer could be … the sea itself! That’s according to a study conducted by the University of Illinois. It suggests that the sea became a type of global ‘mega-organism’ that covered the Earth some 3 billion years before giving rise to the progenitors of all living creatures today. Scientists refer to this massive organism as LUCA (L-U-C-A) … it’s an acronym for ‘Last Universal Common Ancestor’. And the study indicates that LUCA is traceable to every domain of life … including animals, plants and fungi (fun-jie). Experts say it was this mega-organism that filled the Earth’s oceans, and became a type of global genetic exchange for cells that struggled to survive on their own. Those cells freely swapped their genes and proteins with one another for hundreds of millions of years, giving rise to a massive single organism … which eventually split into the domains of bacteria, eukaryotes (you-kare-ee-oats), and archaea (ar-kee-uh). As cells evolved ways of providing for their own existence, LUCA was broken apart … giving rise to the birth of all things living today! Did They Find a Living Megalodon In the Mariana Trench?

08:29
Сould Megalodon sharks still be alive in the deepest parts of the ocean? Science tells us that Megalodon sharks are extinct. Given that it was a massive shark with noticeable feeding habits, we guess that if Megalodon sharks were still roaming the oceans, they would probably have been spotted by someone by now. But perhaps not if they lived in the deepest place on Earth: the Mariana Trench. TIMESTAMPS: What the name Megalodon means 1:49 Megalodon’s size 3:26 The deepest spot on Earth 4:13 Could Megalodon live in the Mariana Trench 5:00 How many people reached Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench 6:39 #megalodon #marianatrench #meg Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - The Megalodon shark roamed the oceans as early as 23 million years ago, and we have their fossils to prove their existence. When people first encountered Megalodon teeth, they believed them to be rocks that had made their way to Earth from the moon. - Megalodon was the biggest shark to terrorize the ocean, and it is thought to have gone extinct 2.6 million years ago. The name Megalodon means “big tooth.” Most of the recovered Megalodon fossil teeth have been 4” to 5”. But there are a few enormous teeth that are over 7”. - The Mariana Trench is 6.83 miles deep and measures more than 1,500 miles long and 43 miles wide. To put the depth into perspective, if you were to put Mount Everest into the Mariana Trench, the top would still be sticking out. To put the length into perspective, in 1,500 miles you could fit all the states between Florida and Massachusetts. 1,500 miles is also the distance between Madrid, in Spain, and Copenhagen, in Denmark. - To survive in the Mariana Trench, Megalodon would have had to adapt to the living conditions and evolve. It would also have to switch its diet from whales, dolphins, sea lions, and sea cows to whatever organisms reside in the Mariana Trench and hope that it could find and eat its usual 2,500 lb of food per day. - According to the United Nations, there are 7.6 billion people in the world today, and only 3 of them have made it to the deepest point on Earth. The reality is that with so little research, it is impossible to know what lies in the depths of the Mariana Trench. 10 Rare Deep Sea Catches

08:44
From the giant squid found near Antarctica, to the most awesome fish inside a jelly fish ! These are 10 RARE Deep Sea Catches ! Basket Star -- Was it an alien life form? Nothing so exotic. But a fisherman in Singapore reeled in a catch that caught worldwide attention. The weird, writing octopus-like creature was actually a basket star … a distant relative of the starfish. The fisherman said he thought he had reeled in a bunch of seaweed since it’s so prevalent in the area. Although it looks like the creature has hundred of arms wriggling about, it only has five arms, which are each divided into more dexterous ‘branchlets’. This really was a rare deep sea catch since Basket Stars live so deep under the sea … some 6,000 feet or so … and feed mostly on zooplankton. A Controversial Catch -- A Tiger shark measuring nearly 20 feet long was caught off the Australian coast in 2015. Tiger sharks normally grow to lengths between 10 to 14 feet, and are found worldwide in tropical and temperate waters. The apex predators are known to hunt a variety of animals including sea snakes, turtles, dolphins and whales. When photos of the enormous carcass lying on a fishing boat were posted on Facebook, it prompted a social media backlash. Critics compared the display to Cecil the Lion, who was controversially killed by an American big game hunter. What do you think? Ghost Octopus -- A remotely operated submarine called Deep Discover made an amazing discovery when it caught this creature on video: A mysterious, ghostlike octopus sitting on a rock … at a depth of nearly 4,300 meters … or over 14, 000 feet below the surface! The unusual octopus was found during a deep-sea dive in the Hawaiian Archipelago. Researchers said its ghostly appearance is due to the animal’s lack of pigment cell called chromatophores, which most cephalopods possess. While the newly discovered creature is thought to be previously undescribed, researchers have classified it as an incirrate octopod ... meaning it lacks fins and cirri, which are wispy strands found on the arms of some octopuses. Cirrate octopods have fins, and are sometimes called Dumbo octopods … a reference to their resemblance to the Disney cartoon elephant. This small ghost octopus is the first incirrate octopod observed at such an extreme depth. A lot of people think this creature should be named ‘Casper’ … can you think of a better name? Here’s the Catch -- This is kind of like a rare deep sea double catch … A fish is caught inside a jellyfish … and the incident is caught on film! You can see in Tim Samuel’s photograph that the fish seems to realize it’s made a horrible mistake … if it’s any consolation to the fish, the picture will no doubt provide fodder for plenty of internet memes. The incident took place off the coast of Australia's Byron Bay earlier in 2016. The species of the fish and jellyfish are difficult to identify from the picture. But some experts think the jellyfish is a type of stinging jellyfish known as a cubomedusan (koo-boe-med-ooh-san) … and the fish might be a juvenile trevally (treh-valley). Because that fish species is known to evade predators by camouflaging itself among the stingers of certain jellyfish species, it likely intended to get close to the jellyfish … but not actually inside it! Did the jellyfish end up eating the fish … or did the two creatures strike up an unlikely alliance and go on to have some amazing aquatic adventures? As it was decided to let nature run its course … we may never know. Can you think of a happy ending? Gigantic Giant Squid -- A squid the size of a minibus was captured in the area of Antarctica’s isolated Ross Sea. Researchers kept it on ice for some 8 months before thawing it out to discover it’s wasn't just another giant squid … it was a gigantic squid, weighing 770 pounds! Scientists identified the enormous creature’s gender as female, with 8 arms measuring over three feet each, and dual tentacles reaching 7 feet. One of the scientists speculated that animals such as this may have inspired legends like the Kraken, who often battled other huge sea creatures, like whales. Analyzing the huge squid is part of a research project that scientists hope will yield more information about where giant squids figure in the overall marine-based food chain … In addition to identify various squid types and find out more about their dietary patterns and life-cycle. US Navy TBF Avenger gunner from USS Essex is buried at sea with his aircraft during World War II A Grumman TBF avenger torpedo bomber of VT-15 Torpedo Air Group, approaches and lands on the deck of the USS Essex (CV-9) during the Battle of Manila Bay, in World War 2. Upon landing, Lt. Robert Cosgrove (Pilot) and Sailor Digby Denzek (Radioman) can be seen in their respective forward and middle crew positions. But the rear gunner position, occupied by Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class,Loyce Edward Deen (Gunner) has been completely destroyed by enemy 40mm shell fire. As the aircraft is parked amongst others, with wings folded, sailors of the Essex take fingerprints and cut dog tags from the body of AMM2C Loyce Deen in the gunner position. Captain Carlos W. Wieber, Commanding Officer of the Essex, and her crew, participate in funeral services on the deck. A chaplain conducts the services from beside the aircraft, where Loyce Deen's remains in the gunner's position have been shrouded. Closeup view of Rear Admiral Frederick C. Sherman during the burial service. A bugler sounds taps. Beside the bugler is David L. McDonald, who was XO of the USS Essex (and later Chief of Naval Operations in the 1960s). Deen's remains are then buried at sea in the TBF avenger in which he perished. The aircraft floats off the fantail for a short time before sinking from view. Two TBF Avengers are seen flying overhead , in tribute. Crew members then disband and return to their duties. Location: Manila Philippines. Date: November 5, 1944.
