Okay, so I’m gonna be upfront with you. I really don’t read a lot of marketing books. Sure, I devoured all the classics. Still, for the life of me I couldn’t name the latest and greatest marketing and advertising book topping the best-seller list. But you’re a marketing Wizard, you say. How can this be? Oh, no! I’ve been exposed as a fraud. I dunno. Maybe it’s the non-conformist in me. More likely than not, it’s because I want to know the root of an idea’s origins. I want to know WHY something works. So I’ve developed my persuasive prowess by studying neurology, psychology, biology, and the arts. That’s probably how I stumbled upon a little-known research book titled, Diffusion of Innovations by Everette M. Rogers. It’s a book every Marketing Wizard should read. And it definitely ranks as a classic. Yes, when Roger’s speaks of innovations, he’s referring to new products or services being introduced to the marketplace. But, the concepts found in his book provides any Marketing Wizard with a rock-solid blueprint for persuading customers to buy from you—even if what you’re selling has been around longer than Jerry Lewis. Is he still alive? Just look at all the dog-eared pages and highlights I made. Lots of good marketing mojo in this book for sure. Like this: “In developing a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward an innovation, an individual may mentally apply the new idea to his or her present or anticipated future situation before deciding whether or not to try it,” says Rogers. “This vicarious trial involves the ability to think hypothetically and counterfactually and to project into the future: What if I adopt this innovation? Forward planning is involved at the persuasion stage.” Helping your customers to imagine doing the thing that you want them to do. That’s what Rogers is talking about here. And that’s what you’re trying to make happen with your marketing as well. So let’s get knee deep into the five factors that influence the spread of new ideas and lead to widespread adoption: Number One: Relative Advantage - the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be better than the product or service it supersedes. Naturally, the greater the perceived relative advantage of an innovation, the more rapid its rate of adoption will be. Your goal here is to frame the buying conversation to favor you. Since we know that customers naturally contrast and compare the differences among their available options, you must make an apples-to-oranges comparison—rising above the competition to become the obvious choice. Now, logical, reason why marketing is important … but don’t forget to speak to your customer’s emotions. Tap into an emotional benefit that drives your customer’s desire—one that your customer is willing to pay for. Marketing and advertising that speaks to a dominant, driving emotion is much more powerful and persuasive than copy that makes a logical argument alone. Number Two: Compatibility - the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be consistent with existing values, past experiences and the needs of potential adopters. Products and services that are deemed less compatible or incompatible with the norms of a social system will not be adopted as rapidly as those that are. Please don’t expect your customers to adopt a new belief system. You can’t please all. Remember, only weasel brands try’n snuggle up to every customer in the marketplace. So find a group of customers with a social system that your products and services are compatible with. Number Three: Complexity - the degree to which which an innovation is perceived to be difficult to understand and use. Simplicity is a better way to think about this. Marketers have known for awhile now that uncertainty is the costly side-effect of overwhelming your customers with too much choice. Generally speaking, the more options customers have at their fingertips, the more indecisive they’ll become. And complexity often creates the desire for simplicity. Tom, you were with her last. Tom That was last night at the pub. She was drowning her sorrows. Denise Drowning her sorrows? Tom Yeah. She saw Dave from IT with another woman – Julie from accounts, actually. She was very upset. Denise Oh poor Anna. Paul So you left her drowning in the pub? And who's got the prototype aubergine to show at the launch? Tom Oh no! Anna has. It's in her bag. What are we going to do? Denise Panic! Paul No Denise. Calm down. I'll just have to make a start and I'm sure Anna will turn up. OK, here goes. Excuse me everyone, could you all gather round? Our presentation is about to begin. This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. These are the steps I’ve used over and over again since 2008 to launch products of all kinds. Whether it was launching IWearYourShirt, starting a non-profit, selling online courses, creating an app, etc, there’s been some semblance of a system I use that I wanted to share. While these steps may not fit perfectly for every business, product, or idea, I think they’re a good foundation and will get you a lot further than just throwing something out on the Internet and crossing your fingers and toes. For this video (and full article linked below), we’re going to pretend you’re starting a beer flavored popsicle website (obviously known as BeerSicles) that’s launching in three months. Step one: A product launch needs a goal! Come up with your goal or goals, write them down, and keep yourself/your company accountable to them. Step two: Social media can help launch a product, but is NOT absolutely necessary. I’d recommend skipping social media altogether in the beginning – WHAT!? Yep. Skip it. Grab the handles/URLs for your product on these sites (@beersicles, et al) and just park them. Then, go to step #3 and do that first. Step three: Building an email list is crucial I always use email marketing as my first launching point. You’re most likely having a website built (or building one). Put up a simple landing page that directs people to sign up for your email list and tells them when your site should be launching (general timeframe is fine). Keep this simple and don’t waste too much time on it! Step four: People love behind the scenes photos, so take and share some photos! Take photos of the things you’re doing and create some buzz. Maybe you picked a particularly weird beer you love? Share a photo of it. Maybe you’re trying out eco-friendly popsicle sticks? Share a photo of al the popsicle stick research you’ve done. Get my drift here? Step five: How to launch a product and have other people help do the dirty work Find people who write about whatever you’re doing. Since you love beer, you probably follow some people on Twitter/Instagram or read beer blogs from people who love beer as much as you do. Reach out to them and ask them if you can email them some inside info on a new cool beer idea you’re launching. When you email them, don’t pitch them, just share the idea, ask for feedback, and ask if they’re interested in trying your product before anyone else. Offer to send them some of your delicious Beersicles before anyone else. Step six: A good product launch gets talked about Speaking of press, reach out to local press outlets. Most people ignore local press because they want the big dogs like The Today Show, Good Morning America, etc. What you don’t realize is there’s an entire network behind the scenes that’s owned by a lot of the same people. Maybe you don’t know local press folks in your area, but you can watch the news and see if they’re on Twitter or visit their website and see if they have places to submit news/ideas. Local news wants to talk about cool stories in their area. Step seven: Starting talking and promoting! Listen, you love your Beersicles business, right? You’re excited about it? You’ve invested a ton of hours? Don’t be ashamed to promote it! Start some serious marketing ONE week prior to launch. Give people an exact time to look forward to. I personally like 10-11am, but you can choose something that works well for you. Make sure you share that launch time with all your networks, email list(s), etc. At this time, you should have a landing page or something simple up on your website that tells people the time of launch. Step eight: Use this product launch formula and launch… Launch that sucker! Make your website live, send out your email to your list(s), contact your influencer list, Tweet it, Facebook it, Instagram it, make sure local news knows today is the day, yell out your window really loudly, et al. Undoubtedly something will break or not work, be honest about it with your audience and update them accordingly. Be ready all day launch day to answer questions, fix orders that get placed wrong, walk someone through a simple process that a 4-year old could do, etc etc. Then, keep the ball rolling. Keep updating people, keep sharing content, keep working hard and don’t give up if you don’t make $1,000,000 in your first week. How to launch your first Amazon FBA product + 6 hacks to make it a home-run success. ►► How to Make $10,000/Month Online: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step There are 2 secrets that you need to know to launch your first Amazon FBA product and make it a home-run success even if it’s your first product. And these 2 secrets are… 1) Sales Velocity 2) Conversions These are the 2 key factors the Amazon algorithm uses when choosing which products will sit at the top of their search results (the search engine accounts for 90% of sales on Amazon). Here is what you need to do to launch your first Amazon FBA product and make it a home-run success (even if it’s your first product): You need to match (or ideally improve on) the sales velocity & conversions of your top competitor for 2 weeks. If you do this… then your item will soar to the top of the search results - and YOU’LL start making all of the organic sales for your product! Hack #1 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use product giveaways Product giveaways for your Amazon FBA private label product are one of the most powerful strategies at your disposal for massively increasing your sales velocity & conversions. You can’t give products away for free but you can give people a heavily discounted coupon that lets them buy it for just 99 cents, which means you are basically giving it away for free. And this is simple: Sign up for a service like JumpSend or ZonBlast. These services have a huge membership base of people that are keen to purchase heavily discounted items on Amazon. They will then distribute your coupon to it’s members. Not only will this drastically increase your sales, but the conversions will be high: You can expect around 50%. Hack #2 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Lower the price If your item starts getting sales (product giveaways are of course a great way to do this) and traction, you can then attract more sales from simply lowering the price below your competition for a week or two. If your product is already ranked in the top few results and you want to climb to the top, this strategy alone can be enough. Hack #3 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use SuperURLs When someone clicks on your product listing after finding it using the Amazon search engine, they enter using a SuperURL: It’s a URL containing tracking information that tells the Amazon algorithm that they arrived at your listing through finding it using the search engine. You can give people this URL instead of your usual product URL to trick the algorithm into thinking that people found (and bought your item) through finding it using the search engine. Be aware though, this is a controversial method. Experts like Daniel recommend only pushing through a maximum of 20% of your sales this way. Hack #4 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use paid advertising You can place paid ads in the Amazon search engine for your item, targeting specific keywords. When someone buys a product through clicking on it, not only will this increase your sales velocity - but it’ll help your product rank organically for that keyword as well. Hack #5 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Increase the conversions on your listing & get reviews It’s not enough to get the initial sales & conversions from drastically lowering your price: You need to have a high-converting listing so that when you reach the top of the search results you’ll keep making more sales than your competitor, otherwise the Amazon algorithm will drop you in the results. Here are some tips for increasing your conversions on your listing: * Have the maximum number of HD photos that are big enough the customer can zoom in on them. * Have a keyword rich product title. * Have multiple bullet points with excellent copy. * Have a descriptive product description that has photos included in it. Be sure to email and follow up with your customers, asking them to leave an honest review. If you do this, you can increase the rate of people leaving a review to as high as 10-15% (compared to less than 5%). Hack #6 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use Amazon Marketing Services Amazon Market Services (AMS) is an advertising platform that you need to be specially approved for. When you are approved it lets you advertise on lots of pages on Amazon, such as your competitor’s pages. Because it requires pre-approval, most of your competition won’t be using it. So you can use this to place ads in larger amounts than 99% of your competitors and outsell them.

In particular, how to give a presentation about shampoo. Giving a presentation about a product is an important thing to know how to do because you are likely to use this skill when also talking about yourself or your ideas. The key thing to remember is that you have to focus on benefits to your target audience and not only on the features of the product. For example, if it’s shampoo that doesn’t make you cry, then that is a feature. The benefit is that if you’re a parent, it will be much more comfortable for your child if the shampoo doesn’t sting his or her eyes. (Of course, that no tears shampoo is actually pretty nasty so it’s best to avoid it, but anyway.)
