Ocean's Tides Explained

05:11
Ocean’s tides are explained in this video: How the tides work? Why the oceans experience two high tides and two low tides each day? The oceans on the earth's surface are attracted to the moon through the effects of gravity. Because the strength of the gravitational attractions depend on the separation distance of objects, the oceans on both sides of the earth, as well as the earth itself, experience different gravitational forces towards the moon, causing two oceanic bulges which result in two high tides daily. The video also explains why tides as well as moon rise and moon set are 50 minutes later each day, based on the moon's orbit around the earth. We provide lesson plans, hands-on classroom resources, demonstration equipment, quizzes and a Teacher's Manual to primary school teachers. Animated videos that clearly explain the scientific ideas supports learning by both teachers and students. As a teacher, you don't have to look anywhere else to implement this program. Our work has been verified by science education researchers at the University of Southern Queensland, Dr Jenny Donovan and Dr Carole Haeusler, who confirm that primary students are capable of learning much more complex scientific concepts than previously thought, and crucially, that they love it. Students run to class! The program has been trialed in Australian schools as well as schools in the Philippines, Iran and India. It is conducted as holiday workshops at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, the Queensland Museum as well as the World Science Festival. It has attracted wide media interest, including TV, radio and print, and the research data has been presented at prestigious American Education Research Association and Australian Science Education Research Association conferences. Atomic Theory underlies all the other sciences- genetics, electronics, nanotechnology, engineering and astronomy- so an early understanding will set them up for a more successful learning sequence for all their science subjects, and support their mastery of mathematics as well. We also have extension programs that cover Biology, Physics and Astronomy to an equal depth. About Ian Stuart (Email: [email protected]): The founder of Atomic School, Ian Stuart, taught Chemistry and Physics for 25 years at senior levels before he realized that his 8-year old son, Tom, could understand Atomic Theory at a much deeper level than he expected. After visiting Tom's class at school, he discovered that his peers could also grasp the abstract scientific concepts, as well as apply it usefully to the real world. Ian then developed a program to teach the advanced concepts of high school Chemistry, Physics and Biology to students 10 years younger than they normally would. He found that this engaged their interest in modern science early, and sustained it through to high school and beyond. It also sets them up for future success in their academic and career paths. Ian has a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Queensland and a Master's degree in Electrochemistry from the University of Melbourne. low tide | high tide

04:24
This video depicts the low and high tide event that occurred on 30 May 2009 at Leo Carillo State Beach along the southern California coast. The parts of this video where the low tide scene changes to the high tide scene occur between 1:40 to 1:50 and 3:10 to 3:20. Science has identified more than 400 factors which contribute to the phenomenon of oceanic tides; the greatest factor is the gravitational pull of the moon. Essentially, tides are the result of a great long-period wave travelling around Earth's oceans as Earth rotates. This wave moves along coastlines as it revolves around amphidromic points (nodes of no vertical wave motion) in oceans, bays, and gulfs. High tide is also known as "flood tide" whereas low tide is also called "ebb tide." Additionally, a tide coming in is said to be "rising" whereas a tide going out is said to be "falling." Twice per month -- during the full and new moons, when the Earth, moon, and Sun are at syzygy (in line) -- the highest high tides and lowest low tides occur. Tides on these dates with the greatest tidal range are called "spring tides." (The name 'spring tides' has nothing to do with the season of the same name. Spring tides occur throughout the year whenever the conditions described are present.) When the moon is in quadrature (right angle to the Earth and Sun), tides with the least range occur. These tides are called "neap tides." Predictable variation of tides occur on a schedule of 18.6 years, which is the time it takes the moon to complete one cycle of its various motions. To find the time of high and low tide for any coastal location in the United States, go to this webpage from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): http://co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/. Once on this page ... 1. Click Tide Tables (listed along the left side of the page). 2. On the next page select the year for which you would like to find the tide prediction. 3. Then select the U.S. state where the section of coast in which you're interested is located. 4. On the next page, click on the name of the section of coast closest to, or containing the beach or location for which you would like to view the tide table. (This requires a bit of geographic knowledge. Try Google Earth or Google Maps if you're unsure about your location's situation.) 5. On the next page, you'll see a list of all of the tidal stations or tidal gage locations in your state of interest. Click the word 'Predictions' for the location closest to your place of interest. To locate the time for low or high tides at Leo Carillo State Beach, I interpolate between the Santa Monica, Municipal Pier and the Mugu Lagoon (ocean pier) tide station data. Leo Carillo State Beach is located roughly between these two, but a little bit closer to Mugu Lagoon. So refer to data from both of these tide charts. Tidal phenomena -- like everything in the natural world -- are fascinating. Study them!

See The Red Tide That Is Devastating Florida's Sea Life | National Geographic

01:07
A deadly algae bloom off the coast of Florida has killed thousands of sea creatures. It first started in October 2017, and is the region’s worst in over a decade. Similar blooms occur around the world and are known as "red tides" for their frequent rust-red coloration. The algae’s toxins have killed many varieties of fish, as well as manatees, dolphins, turtles, and more. The cause of Florida’s intense bloom, and when it might end, is unclear. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Key Biscayne was the perfect spot for that because we have all the Florida eco-systems right in one spot.  The seagrass, the coastal  hardwood hammock, mangroves, dunes, and the fossilized mangrove reef.   She felt the community needed a "Nature Center by the Sea".  As people explore nature, they will learn to preserve and protect what they love.  Website:  http://bit.ly/biscaynenature Open seven days a week 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Free of charge  Our new series Beyond the Tide explores the mysterious world of the ocean and brings you closer than ever to its most fascinating creatures. A possible cause for ocean tides on a flat earth.

03:51
This is a science fair project my son performed last year. It got me thinking about the ocean tides and what could cause them. It deals with the magnetic properties of water. I want to make this channel a place where people can express there views on the topics I put out but, after reviewing some of the comments on my channel and seeing the name calling and cursing I have decided to block derogatory language, so keep it PG 13 and treat each other with respect. Thanks for keeping your comments respectful. Dwayne Samuel Kellum

Does The Moon Really Control The Tides?

Low tide Welsh OCTOPUS and another foraged beach feast with Craig Evans

13:56
A bright Winters day on a beautiful beach on the Gower penisula in South West Wales. A few days earlier the temperature was around -6 to -7 degrees C ,It was 3 degrees C on the day (4 March 2018). Myself and my son Dafydd cook a foraged meal of Native oysters, scallops, cockles other clams, limpets ,dog whelks, winkles and Velvet swimming crabs.I made a sauce at home with white wine, cream and pureed onions. I precooked the noodles. I also roasted sugar kelp until it became crisp and brittle. I foraged wild garlic, wild chives and primrose flowers. I must add that I foraged the Oyster ,Scallop ,Cockles and clams in Pembrokeshire the previous day. I have highlighted the word octopus because I have only ever caught 2 live specimens in all my foraging career. The clip of the octopus was filmed 2 weeks previous to the rest of the film, but at the exact same location. There is no sound on the clip as it was filmed on my faulty mobile phone. You will see that "Llew" appears to try to eat the octopus,he doesn't eat it ,he is just very curious. I accidentally said that the sweet powder on the sugar kelp was "sorbitol" ,It is in fact a very similar natural sugar called "Mannitol"
Strong tide current at Ocean Beach

01:51
High and strong tide at San Francisco Ocean Beach. This shows how rip currents are forming. Here the current is well visible at the surface, but the same phenomena can happen below the surface creating a very dangerous trap for the swimmers or even for people walking along the beach. Each year several people die at Ocean Beach as they are taken off shore by strong rip currents.

High Tide Situation on beach of Daman (watch very high water wave in the ocean )

01:39
High Tide Situation in Daman beach. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth. Some shorelines experience two almost equal high tides and two low tides each day, called a semi-diurnal tide. Some locations experience only one high and one low tide each day, called a diurnal tide. Some locations experience two uneven tides a day, or sometimes one high and one low each day; this is called a mixed tide. The times and amplitude of the tides at a locale are influenced by the alignment of the Sun and Moon, by the pattern of tides in the deep ocean, by the amphidromic systems of the oceans, and by the shape of the coastline and near-shore bathymetry (see Timing). Tides vary on timescales ranging from hours to years due to numerous influences. To make accurate records, tide gauges at fixed stations measure the water level over time. Gauges ignore variations caused by waves with periods shorter than minutes. These data are compared to the reference (or datum) level usually called mean sea level. While tides are usually the largest source of short-term sea-level fluctuations, sea levels are also subject to forces such as wind and barometric pressure changes, resulting in storm surges, especially in shallow seas and near coasts. Tidal phenomena are not limited to the oceans, but can occur in other systems whenever a gravitational field that varies in time and space is present. For example, the solid part of the Earth is affected by tides, though this is not as easily seen as the water tidal movements.

What Causes Tides?

08:13
Tides are the periodic rise and fall of sea levels caused by the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun. When there is a new moon or full moon, the sun, moon and earth are aligned. The higher gravitational pull of these combined forces results in higher than normal high tides and lower than normal low tides. These are called Spring Tides. During the moon's quarter phases, the line from the Earth to the Moon is at right angles to the line from the Earth to the Sun. Consequently the tide generating forces of the sun and moon oppose each other, thereby producing tidal ranges that are approximately 20% lower than the mean tidal range. We call these Neap Tides.
