Scientists discover sea temperatures rising faster than previously thought | ITV News

02:44
Scientists have discovered that sea temperatures are rising much faster than previously thought. Ocean heat is a key indicator of global warming and a new system for measuring heat has revealed that the old system was out by about 40%. Scientists behind the study predict that by the end of the century, sea temperature will rise by 0.78 degrees Celsius. Despite it sounding like a small difference - it can have a devastating effect. It is believed hurricanes, storms and flooding would occur with more frequency. Oceans are acidifying at a rate faster than any time in the last 300 million years. This year, we've seen the most drastic and damaging coral bleaching event in recent history - and it's attributable to warmer, more acidic oceans. It's time to take bigger steps to reduce our impact on the ocean's ability to restore itself. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe Learn more about Pristine Seas and National Geographic Society's other work to explore and protect the planet: http://nationalgeographic.org/ http://ocean.nationalgeographic.com/ocean/explore/pristine-seas/ About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. NASA | The Ocean: A Driving Force for Weather and Climate

06:01
The Ocean is essential to life on Earth. Most of Earth's water is stored in the ocean. Although 40 percent of Earth's population lives within, or near coastal regions- the ocean impacts people everywhere. Without the ocean, our planet would be uninhabitable. This animation helps to convey the importance of Earth's oceanic processes as one component of Earth's interrelated systems. This animation uses Earth science data from a variety of sensors on NASA Earth observing satellites to measure physical oceanography parameters such as ocean currents, ocean winds, sea surface height and sea surface temperature. These measurements, in combination with atmospheric measurements such as surface air temperature, precipitation and clouds can help scientists understand the ocean's impact on weather and climate and what this means for life here on Earth. NASA satellites and their unique view from space are helping to unveil the vast... and largely unexplored.... OCEAN. NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information Systems (EOSDIS) EOSDIS is a distributed system of twelve data centers and science investigator processing systems. EOSDIS processes, archives, and distributes data from Earth observing satellites, field campaigns, airborne sensors, and related Earth science programs. These data enable the study of Earth from space to advance scientific understanding. OG-29 | Temperature of Ocean| महासागर का तापमान।For UPSC and State PSC

21:12
Is video me hum mahasagaron ke tapaman ke baare me janenge ki kis prakar se mahasagaron ke taapmaan me pariwartan hota hai aur kaun kaun se factor use effect karte hain. Oceanography Playlist https://goo.gl/CfAowt Temperature is a physical properties of Ocean water. Ocean Temperature is affected by following reasons 1- Sun light 2- Density of water 3- Salinity 4- Vaporization and condensation 5- Ocean Current # The average temperature of Ocean is 3 to 4 degree Celsius but the temperature of its surface is 25*C # The temperature of Ocean going to decrease from Equator to pole. #The temperature of Ocean water is maximum in August while it's minimum in February. #Going From top to bottom the temperature of Ocean water going to decrease . #The Ocean which will connected with more landmasses having high temperature in comparison to the ocean connected with less landmasses at same latitude . The temperature of the ocean determines what form the water takes. Most of the ocean is liquid water, but if it gets cold enough, it turns to solid ice, or if it gets hot enough, it can pass into the atmosphere as water vapour Water warms up more slowly than air but can hold more heat – water needs 4 times as much energy to raise its temperature by 1ºC as the same mass of air does – so the ocean plays an important part in taking up energy from the Sun and stopping the Earth getting too hot. Variation in temperature The temperature of the ocean, especially the surface, varies from place to place and from season to season. Ocean temperature depends on the amount of solar energy absorbed. Tropical oceans receive a lot of direct overhead sunlight for much of the year, so the water is warm. Summer is the only time polar regions receive sunlight, and even then, it is never directly overhead, so water in these places tends to be cold. The amount of sunlight that hits the temperate regions (between the tropics and the poles) varies between summer and winter. The variation in solar energy absorbed means that the ocean surface can vary in temperature from a warm 30°C in the tropics to a very cold -2°C near the poles. The temperature of the ocean also varies from top to bottom, giving a vertical structure to most of the ocean. There is an upper layer of water, up to 200m deep, that is warmed by the Sun and has the same temperature from top to bottom. Below that is a layer called the thermocline, reaching down in places to 1000m, which is colder at the bottom than at the top. The deep ocean below the thermocline, making up 80% of the ocean, is the same very cold temperature throughout. What happens when temperature changes Some properties of water change with temperature: Cold water is denser than warm water, so it tends to sink. Cold water holds more dissolvable gases, such as carbon dioxide Water temperature can affect the productivity of organisms living in it. Water expands when it warms up – heat energy makes its molecules move around more and take up more space. Because the molecules are more spread out, the density goes down. When water cools, it contracts and becomes denser. Temperature and salinity both affect the density of water, resulting in water moving up or down through the ocean layers and moving as currents around the ocean.

You've heard of climate change, but what exactly is climate? Climate is the average weather – like the temperature, wind, and rain – across seasons and decades. Like weather, climate changes but over long periods of time. To figure out these changes, you need to collect a lot of data from the air as well as the ocean. Plotting Sea Temperature Data
Atlantic and Pacific oceans joining at a point in mid ocean but do not mix each other | Unbelievable

01:28
On the temperature, salinity, and density differences between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in the upper kilometre. Abstract The surface of the Pacific Ocean stands about 40 cm higher than the Atlantic Ocean with respect to the 1000-decibar surface, and the North Atlantic and North Pacific stand respectively about 14 and 17 cm higher than the South Atlantic and Pacific. The North Atlantic is warmest and saltiest, the South Atlantic is coldest and densest, and the North Pacific is least dense and least salty. The extreme values in temperature and salinity of the North Atlantic are probably related to the formation of the deep water there, which carries away from the upper layer the cold water of relatively low salinity. If this water spreads into the South Atlantic at depth and is replaced with warm saline surface water from the South Atlantic via the South Equatorial Current and the Gulf Stream, then the South Atlantic should be substantially cooler and less salty. The difference in density and sea level of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans may stem from the difference in latitude of the southern tips of America, Africa, and Australia, and the constriction of the west wind drift at Drake Strait. Only the densest surface waters of the Pacific pass through to the Atlantic, while lighter waters from lower latitudes of the South Atlantic pass eastward south of Africa. Further, the constriction of the flow by Drake Strait may result in a higher sea level on the Pacific side through the effect of Windstau (Montgomery, 1938). The density difference between the southern and northern oceans may be partly a consequence of the west wind drift around Antarctica. This is the greatest current of all oceans. Its flow is approximately geostrophically balanced and the surface slopes down to the south. The northern west wind drifts are not so strong, are at lower latitudes, and the high latitude flow is westward with slope upward to the north. These differences are not confined to the upper thousand metres. The average density difference between the Atlantic and the Pacific from the surface to the bottom is about 17 × 10−5 g/cm3. Referred to some deep surface such as 4000 decibars, the Pacific stands about 68 cm higher than the Atlantic.

Sea surface temperature - Video Learning - WizScience.com

02:09
"Sea surface temperature" is the water temperature close to the ocean's surface. The exact meaning of "surface" varies according to the measurement method used, but it is between 1 mm and 20 m below the sea surface. Air masses in the Earth's atmosphere are highly modified by sea surface temperatures within a short distance of the shore. Localized areas of heavy snow can form in bands downwind of warm water bodies within an otherwise cold air mass. Warm sea surface temperatures are known to be a cause of tropical cyclogenesis over the Earth's oceans. Tropical cyclones can also cause a cool wake, due to turbulent mixing of the upper 30 m of the ocean. SST changes diurnally, like the air above it, but to a lesser degree due to its higher specific heat. There is less SST variation on breezy days than on calm days. In addition, ocean currents such as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation , can effect SST's on multi-decadal time scales, a major impact results from the global thermohaline circulation, which affects average SST significantly throughout most of the world's oceans. Coastal SSTs can cause offshore winds to generate upwelling, which can significantly cool or warm nearby landmasses, but shallower waters over a continental shelf are often warmer. Onshore winds can cause a considerable warm-up even in areas where upwelling is fairly constant, such as the northwest coast of South America. Its values are important within numerical weather prediction as the SST influences the atmosphere above, such as in the formation of sea breezes and sea fog. It is also used to calibrate measurements from weather satellites. Wiz Science™ is "the" learning channel for children and all ages. Reliability of Land & Sea Temperatures

04:05
The reliability and accuracy of land ans sea surface temperatures are reviewed. Land near-surface measurements are contaminated by the urban heat island effect. They suffer from poor distribution, and poor maintenance in many regions, and unexplained adjustments. Sea surface temperatures before 2000 were from ship records on major shipping routes, so they have very poor coverage in the southern oceans.

Sea temperatures around Korean Peninsula rise by 2.89°C over 8 years: KMA

01:55
여름철 바다 수온 상승 최근 10년 새 가속화... 폭염 매년 심해질 수도 Sea temperature around the nation has been steadily rising in recent years. Other than dealing a blow to the local fishing industry the phenomenon may bring about other concerning changes. The weather agency warns it may cause worse heatwaves in the years to come. Seo Eun-kyung explains further. The seas surrounding the Korean Peninsula are getting warmer. According to a report from the Korean Meteorological Administration released Thursday, the average temperature in July stood at 21-point-36 degrees Celsius in 2010, but was 24-point-25 degrees Celsius during the same month this year. That's a rise of nearly 3 degrees Celsius. The weather agency says the average water temperature in July in the West Sea, the Southern Sea, and the East Sea surrounding the Korean peninsula has jumped by an average of zero-point-34 degrees Celsius per year since 2010. The weather agency anticipates that warmer seas around Korea could lead to a number of negative socio-economic effects, and also bring worse annual heat waves to the Korean Peninsula. "There are number of reasons... first of course, the fish catch will drop due to the rising temperatures and fish farms will suffer from this result. This will lead to a massive shutdown of fish farms." Prolonged heatwaves caused by climate change are one of the main reasons for the rising sea temperatures. Another reason for the warmer sea temperature is that the Korean Peninsula has been directly hit by typhoons in recent years, which has prevented the cold water deep below the sea's surface from mixing with the warm surface water. The meteorological agency says it will work with the South Korean government to try to minimize the impact of rising sea temperatures. Seo Eun-kyung, Arirang News. Sea temperature of 23.2°c recorded at the beach in Setúbal

01:54
The ocean in Portugal can be cold but it can also be warm and lovely, as this experiment shows. Today, I used a digital thermometer normally using in a fish tank to measure the sea temperature. The reading shows a sea temperature of 23.2°c. This is Praia da Saúde, located south of Av. José Mourinho next to the boat club. A lovely urban beach with fish restaurants behind and views of the huge ships going in and out of the docks.
