We're raising our girls to be perfect, and we're raising our boys to be brave, says Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code. Saujani has taken up the charge to socialize young girls to take risks and learn to program — two skills they need to move society forward. To truly innovate, we cannot leave behind half of our population, she says. "I need each of you to tell every young woman you know to be comfortable with imperfection." We're taking them through all the beginner snowboarding steps from learning how to skate to linking turns on the bunny hill. Before starting we did a quick snowboard gear check. It's important that your snowboard boots are tightened properly when learning to snowboard and that your snowboard is set up properly. Next we found out which one was the girls front foot by running and sliding in the snow. Your dominant foot need to be in front when learning beginner snowboard turns. Once we got our front foot we practiced skating and snowboarding down with one foot strapped in. This is good practice for getting off the chairlift. Next we headed to the beginner snowboarding area to practice our heel and toe sliding with both feet strapped into our snowboard. By practicing sliding you learn to stop and change the direction of your snowboard. Finally we practice doing beginner snowboard turns. It took a few attempts with some help, then a few small crashes, but all three girls linked a few turns together! For more beginner snowboarding tips check out the beginner snowboarding playlist! If you have any questions about your first day of snowboarding you can leave them in the comments! Thanks for watching! Kathleen and I were classmates at Stanford in the 80s, and we reconnected a few years ago when I learned about this book she had just started writing. We have since shared many lengthy conversations about parenting and educating others on important issues affecting teenagers. Kathleen’s new book, Get Savvy: Letters to a Teenage Girl about Sex and Love is a must-read for every parent, educator, psychologist, and camp professional. If you love or work with teens and young adults, please read this book! Kathleen wrote this book intending it for mothers and daughters but is finding that her audience is also including fathers and even two fraternities who are reading the book this summer. Identifying predators’ traits, tactics, and tricks is just one important part of Kathleen’s educational message for young women. Examples from Kathleen’s own experience and interviews with many young women provide compelling examples of steps to take to reduce the risk of sexual assault. “Basically, I want us to change how we think about predators so that we can then talk to our daughters and sons, so that our daughters are aware that it’s most likely someone that they know who may approach them in a way that isn’t okay or that’s illegal or both, and for our sons to be willing to step up and intervene and not look the other way or laugh.” -Kathleen Buckstaff I want Kathleen’s important insights about relationships, respect, and love to be shared with this entire generation of young people – both girls and boys. Respect, discernment, boundaries, and love are all topics that Kathleen covers by offering excellent discussion questions and role playing ideas. Her goal is to help all people create happier relationships. A former teenage mother in Uganda is giving young women a second chance by teaching them self-sustaining skills. Many girls who fall pregnant while still at school stop studying. They're often rejected by family and friends, and have few people to turn to.

Dream Big with Jennie Allen What do you want to be when you grow up? It was an easy question to answer when they were little, but life gets complicated for teen girls. When they get stuck in drama, discontentment, sadness, and shame, how can they even begin to look ahead to the future? In this 4-part series, author, Bible teacher, and Founder of IF:Gathering, Jennie Allen, inspires teen girls to throw off everything that holds them back and be energized by God's dreams for them. Connecting Scriptures from the New Testament with everyday life, Jennie talks about the big and small ways they can use their unique gifts, spend time with God, and have fun giving His love away. Each session features real-life stories of girls who have struggled to overcome obstacles and find meaning in their lives, but are beginning to see God's vision unfold. Dreaming big isn't about the perfect job or a glamorous life “some day.” Dreaming big starts now. When girls are secure in who Christ made them to be and believe in what God can do in and through them, they will grow in confidence, create community, and accomplish great things. Jennie Allen: Jennie Allen is an author, speaker, Bible teacher, and Founder of the If:Gathering, a uniquely practical Christian conference which gathers, equips, and unleashes women to live out their purpose. Jennie completed her B.S. in Communications at Carson Newman College and earned an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. She has authored several books and Bible studies, including Stuck: The Places We Get Stuck and the God Who Sets Us Free, Chase: Chasing After the Heart of God, Anything: The Prayer that Unlocked my God and my Soul, and Restless: Because You Were Made for More. Jennie and her husband, Zac, have four children.

My name is Daniela Wolf, I am 24 years old and I am studying how to teach computer studies in Vienna. http://ec.europa.eu/science-girl-thing/ The most common cliché about IT students is that they spend half the night in front of their computers. 's Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/sciencegirlthing Transcript EN My name is Daniela Wolf, I am 24 years old and I am studying how to teach computer studies in Vienna. I enjoy this because it is very interdisciplinary and because it not only involves theoretical and practical work behind the PC, but we also deal with societal issues and educational theories. In my free time I work for the Online-Mentoring program, which supports young girls who are interested to start a career in a technical field. I often find that the girls are worried that they will not be able to keep up with the boys. But during a semester this always turns out to be the least important issue. During group work it appears that the combination, and the diversity of opinions and views completed the total package. The most common cliché about IT students is that they spend half the night in front of their computers. Sorry to disappoint, but this is not at all true. In my free time I am part of an improvisation theatre group, mostly comprised of other Informatics students. We meet up to practice improvisation, presentation and rhetoric. Among the girls in the online-mentoring program I often observe a fear of having to deal with the whole course by themselves. But this is not the case, there is always enough support from all sides. If you really want it, you can do it, you will do it and you will be successful!
