Yves quit his job even though he had it all: a big salary, health benefits and a pension plan. He sold his downtown condo, too. Why did he decide to drastically simplify his life? Because he was unhappy and unfulfilled. A couple of years ago, he went on a 10-day silent retreat and, after much soul-searching, realized that his job and his stressful lifestyle needed to go. Now, a year and a half later, he's living a minimalist lifestyle in a small bachelor apartment, riding his bike to work, and working 3 days a week at a grocery store. He has more time to spend with the people he loves, and a lot less stress. Does he regret his downshifting decision? Watch this video to find out! Thanks for watching! Executive director of Stanford’s design program at the d.School, Bill Burnett uses design thinking, a career’s worth of starting companies and coaching students, and a childhood spent drawing cars and airplanes under his Grandmother’s sewing machine to inform his work on how to design your life. In five eyebrow-raising findings, Burnett offers simple but life-changing advice on designing the life you want, whether you are contemplating college or retirement. After years of drawing cars and airplanes under his Grandmother’s sewing machine, Bill Burnett went to college where he discovered that there were people in the world who did this kind of thing every day (without the sewing machine), and they were called designers. Thirty years, five companies, and a couple thousand students later, Burnett is still drawing and building things, teaching others how to do the same, and quietly enjoying the fact that no one has discovered that he is having too much fun. As Executive Director of the Design Program at Stanford, he runs undergraduate and graduate programs in design, both interdepartmental programs between the mechanical engineering and art departments. Burnett worked on design of the award-winning Apple PowerBooks and the original Hasbro Star Wars action figures. He holds a number of mechanical and design patents. Today´s topic is the result out my recent video about "10 good reasons why to become a pilot". I got so many comments and complaints, that I should mention the negative aspects of being an airline pilot as well. So this is today´s video topic. 10 negative mentions on why being an airline pilot can have disadvantages. 10. Finding a job after flight school 9. Paying for flight school (Money) 8. Early wake up 7. No weekends 6. Fear of medical examination 5. Jetlag 4. Standby Duty 3. Away from home 2. Loss of seniority 1. Homebase and job security As I mention in the video, I don´t agree with all the mention points. In my opinion, I approach these matters with a positive attitude and deal with it as best as I can. If I would worry, complain and winge every single day about these points how miserable would I feel. I know those facts before I choose to become a pilot, and that is still the best choice I´ve made 10 years ago. Sure I get angry if I get called out of standby, but it´s how I approach these disadvantages of this job. Every job has advantages and disadvantages, you´re just gonna have to live with it. (and 30 More Facts You Won't Believe!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSb_CK_3RvM 10 People Who Got Revenge On Cheaters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbcpuiaceiU Description: Work – most of us will have to do it and some of you are even doing it right now while you watch this video. We won’t tell. Getting a job and going to work is just one of those things that you do when you ‘grow up.’ It’s the main reason we go to school for so long and without it, we can’t buy that house, upgrade that car or invest and save for retirement. For these reasons, and others, many people often work jobs they don’t care about or even really hate. In these instances it’s all about waiting for a break or just collecting that paycheck and the benefits with it. Sometimes, though, it can just reach a point where you say enough is enough. The end result? It’s time to quit that job and move on. Depending on how you look at it, quitting a job can be either nerve-wracking or incredibly fun. On the one hand, you need to confront management and tell it as it is. On the other, you’re in the position of power for once and it’s your chance to have your say without fear of repercussions. After all, what are they going to do? Fire you? The people in these following examples provide a variety of rather epic ways to quit a job. Not all of them hated their jobs but all of them decided it was time to move on. From on-air statements to editorial pieces in popular newspapers to marching bands, these people quit in a way that won’t be forgotten by their bosses and coworkers any time soon. Today I want to give away a very big secret about how to find a job in New Zealand or Australia as an immigrant. This is very helpful information if you are an immigrant looking for a job while still offshore – in your old country. A few years ago, I worked as a remuneration consultant. My work involved the job markets in New Zealand and Australia. I gathered data from other employers in New Zealand and Australia. Then, I analysed that data and made recommendations to employers in both countries on the remuneration packages to offer their employees. In this analysis of the job markets is a big secret about finding a job in New Zealand or Australia. I found two big factors in this data: 1. That the clear majority of employers employs less than 20 people. 2. The clear majority of the employers – over 85% of them – would hire people NOT for skills, experience or qualifications, but for attributes such as attitude, personality, dependability, loyalty, enthusiasm and interest. These thousands small businesses made up the backbone of these economies. Herein lies the secret about finding a job in New Zealand or Australia. Given this information then, the secret in finding a job with most of these employers is NOT in sending a CV which depict and is focused on your skills, experience and qualifications. Rather, it is getting to these people with the human to human interaction and displaying the things which they highly value: attributes such as a positive attitude, enthusiasm, interest, dependability, responsibility, etc. That is the secret – getting through to these people require a different STRATEGY than sending your CV to them. As a prospective immigrant who are still offshore, you have a problem. How do you get to interact with these businesses personally if you cannot visit your destination country? Your answer is duel fold: 1. The right tools – a unique immigrant’s LinkedIn profile 2. Applying it with the right unique immigrant’s job finding strategy. These strategies will have to be applied correctly to be successful at finding a job in New Zealand or Australia. The secret is this..... It is not in just having a strategic immigrant’s CV and Unique Immigrant’s LinkedIn Profile. The secret is in what you DO with what you have. Just sending your CV – and also the wrong CV – to job ads will not be successful at finding a job in New Zealand or Australia because of this secret. You need a strategic immigrant’s CV. The job markets are made up of small businesses who value the personal touch. This is applicable in New Zealand and Australia, and to some extent in Canada as well, or anywhere where the economy is made up of these small businesses. I do not just create CVs and LinkedIn profiles specifically designed for immigrants. I also provide a research report for your special situation and many other resources. These all need to be used together for finding a job in New Zealand or Australia. You can contact me here to find out how I can help you. http://www.zarelsie.com/contact

François & Emily are a young Canadian couple who've decided they want to live a simple, minimalist lifestyle...and they're going to do it by living in a van. They say the #vanlife will help them live life at their own pace, allow them to do the things they love, and hopefully save money so they can eventually buy land and live in a tiny house. You can follow their adventures on Instagram here & here: https://www.instagram.com/fa.original/ #mullythevan The couple spent several months downsizing their belongings, and they followed a schedule so that each day they tackled a different part of their life, from their wardrobe, to their cell phones, to their car. After downsizing their stuff, they were able to move into a smaller, cheaper space by renting a room in an apartment. Now that they're spending less money on rent and buying fewer things, they're able to save more and will start to travel full time in their DIY conversion camper van. They're hoping to work half the year, finding odd jobs as they go, and travel for the other half the year. We're excited to follow their nomadic adventures and see what a simple life allows them to accomplish. Thanks for watching! If you're new, Subscribe! → http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Looper Hollywood history is littered with rags-to-riches stories, though few of them are quite as literal as Chris Pratt's. Now the face of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Pratt has come an incredibly long way since he dropped out of college at 17 after just a single semester, taking the road less traveled on his way to Tinseltown. After cutting his teeth playing sidekicks and funny men, the character actor was immediately promoted to the A-list when he won the role of Marvel Studio's Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord. Turn back the clock a few years, however, and there were definitely no red carpets or caviar. So how did it happen? Let's find out how Chris Pratt went from homeless beach bum to Hollywood hotshot... Interviewing for a management job without the necessary experience can be tricky. But most managers don't know what they are doing anyways, so you have that going for you. The key to interviewing for a management job with experience is that you'll want to show them something that makes you remotely qualified. You need to connect the dots for them and convert your past experiences into showcasing your management skills. Maybe you were a project leader, or maybe you managed small tasks here and there. Maybe you volunteered somewhere and managed something. Even though you did not hold the title of manager does not mean you don't have management experience, you just need to dig for it. Lawyers provide advice, write documents and conduct negotiations on legal matters, and may represent clients in court and tribunal proceedings. Lawyers are described as solicitors or barristers, depending on the work they do. For more information about student life in Australia, amazing discounts, awesome competitions, news, reviews, forums and so much more check out https://studentedge.org Transcript: Hi I'm Emma and today thanks to Student Edge i'm here at the Supreme Court Gardens to find out exactly what it's like to be a lawyer. Now we've all seen them on TV on CSI, Law and Order and I'm guessing you're probably thinking it's a pretty glamorous job bringing hardened criminals to justice saving the world one case at a time. But i'm going to guess that being a lawyer involves a little more than what we see on TV and today I'm catching up with a real-life lawyer Matthew to find out what it's all about so come on, let's go meet him. The image of the legal profession created by TV shows is certainly heroic and while element of this can be true the on-screen stories represent the smallest tip of the iceberg in terms of the real work done by actual lawyers. Emma, Matthew. Pleasure to meet you. I've got some questions I'd love to ask you about being a lawyer. Excellent well why don't we come over here we'll have a chat about it So, Emma what would you like to know? Matthew I'm here today because i'd love to know what it's really like being a lawyer I'm guessing it's probably not quite the same as what we see on TV. No it's not just the highlight reel, all the intrigue. The majority of the work of a lawyer is actually spent in the office, sometimes long hours and it's researching, it's writing, it's meeting with clients and talking to other lawyers about how to find the best way forward for a client, so it's not the everything you see on TV. Not quite those intense court battles, huh? Look they come up from time to time but they're definitely not the majority of what you see going on at all. What was it that made you decide that you wanted to be a lawyer? I decided I wanted to be a lawyer because I wanted to help people and law fundamentally is about helping people. Alright Matt it's now time for you to give us the edge, I've got three questions the first question is what qualities or characteristics make somebody a good fit to be a lawyer? I think attention to detail, a passion for the law and being a people person. Would you say that it's possible for somebody to actually do some work experience with a lawyer before they decide to become one? A lot of films will allow high school students to come in for a day or even a week to do work experience through the high school programs so they can experience and see what it's like in the legal office and how it works. Quite often you have to set that up through a contact or someone you know or you can go through the law society they can quite often put teachers and students in contact with a lawyer that can take a work experience person because it is really important to get to see what it would be like before you go into it. The other thing is there are so many different practices of law and specialities that each of them is quite different and just because you find that one doesn't work for you another one might be something that you're really interested in. And finally, if you could change one thing but still end up where you are today what would you have done differently? I think the one thing I would have done differently is find out more about the job and more about how to get into those roles in the legal profession earlier. I'm really happy with where I got to and the work that I do, but what I have found is I probably could have got there maybe quicker or without with bit less effort if I found out more about it earlier. Well thanks for your time today I really appreciate it. Just one last thing um, I got this parking ticket... Well I'm a lawyer and City of Perth is right there i'm sure we can sort it out it'll be fine. As you may have suspected being a lawyer involves far more than what you see on TV. The biggest part of your job is to make sure you provide your clients with expert legal advice and assistance through what can often be stressful and traumatic situations. And remember what Matt said to be a successful lawyer you've got to have excellent communication skills so, to get involved log on to https://studentedge.org and follow the links.

Have you ever thought that you don’t stand a chance of getting that job you desire if: You sometimes get stuck for words when speaking in English; Using the right English tenses during a conversation or You don’t know how to sound professional during important events such as job interviews and meetings Don’t worry! Today we would be providing you some great tips in which you can clear your interview rounds at ease. Now, What to be done Before the Interview : • Review the oral rating scale so that you know what the examiner will be checking for. • Practice beforehand by having a friend or colleague interview you with questions found on our recommended websites or other resources. You may want to record this and have a native English speaker listen to it with you to identify ways that you could have answered more naturally. During the Interview: • Relax: You are not expected to be perfect - just to be fluent enough to function easily in an English speaking office. • Keep talking: Try to give more than a 3 word answer to each question. The examiner wants to hear you talk more than the interviewer. The examiner cannot easily give you a score if you only say 'yes' and 'no'. • Speak slowly, audibly and clearly. If you tend to speak fast when you're nervous, try to speak slower. You'll be understood better. If you usually have a soft voice, make an effort to speak louder. It's impossible for an examiner to give you a score if she/he can't hear you. • Feel free to take control of the conversation. Interviewers have been advised to avoid talking about politics or other sensitive topics - but have not been given exact questions to ask. Thus, the content is not as important as your appearing 'fluent' - and a fluent conversationalist sometimes changes the subject • Don't memorize - or give a lecture. Remember that this is meant to be a conversation, not a recording of you reading, saying something you memorized or giving a lecture to your interviewer. In my view, there are a few other things you can do to improve your verbal facility, which includes: • Practice reading a short passage or an article from your daily newspapers or magazines. Tape-record it, so that you will know where to make adjustments and corrections. You can even invite a good buddy to listen so as to give you candid feedback. • Randomly pick up a photo or picture, and proceed to articulate as much as you can, about what you see in it • Every time after you have finished watching a movie or reading a story book, do your best to articulate the key ideas and salient points to yourself. As usual, you can tape-record and/or get a friend to listen. • Read a lot. Newspapers, novels, your textbooks, watch youtube videos etc. If you don't understand a word then internet is your best friend .. search for it and hear how it is pronounced. • Think in English (or the language you want to learn) • Always participate in the extracurricular activities even if its for small part , this way you can talk to more people. • Go for seminars and watch the speaker body language and try to ape him..Slowly you will know your style what works for you. At last we would summarize as don't be too concerned about your stuttering. Just focus on your objective to practice speaking fluently, and proceed to speak naturally. Yes, it takes an iota of personal courage, but that's the process of natural learning. Also remember, fear is essentially a perceived notion, and always a transient event. It will pass.
