19:29
Join Online Business Mastery Accelerator: https://www.onlinebusinessmasteryaccelerator.com/ In this video I share with you a process for launching your product. Here’s what to do before anything else. The purpose of a product launch is to drive traffic and sales to your online business, so that it can grow and thrive. Launching a new product is a great way to attract new customers, but it takes time to plan and execute. Many entrepreneurs feel the need to promote their products right away, and end up rushing the process. The result can be disastrous. In the words of David Ramsey, "People are in such a hurry to launch their product that they seldom look at marketing from a bird's eye view and they don't create a systematic plan." A successful product launch starts with a great strategy, and I'm here to walk you through it. Are you ready to learn the step-by-step process for launching your product? Here's what to do before anything else. This page contains affiliate links. Steve Jobs' amazing marketing strategy - MUST WATCH

This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. Product Marketing for New Products

27:12
You might have the greatest product on earth, but if your potential customers don’t know they need it, they won’t know they have to buy it — let alone buy it from you. This may seem obvious, but it’s actually an important concept to pause and focus on, because it affects everything from understanding who your buyer really is and who the competition are to how you set the buying criteria and frame the problem your product solves for customers. In this deck, first presented at one of our company building events in early 2017, a16z partner Sharon Chang -- who managed product marketing at Opsware; directed product marketing at HP Software as well as other companies; and headed marketing at Rockmelt -- covers the fundamentals of product marketing for new products. And the fundamentals behind the fundamentals are all about your story, capturing it and scaling it so it’s just as compelling when your first sales rep conveys it as when you first heard it from the founder.

Go-to-market strategy examples

16:01
We’ll give you three examples to best build a go-to-market strategy that will help you make money and drive long-term growth. Get a free trial of our new sales and marketing planning software at: http://register.funnelplan.com/ -------------- The right strategy doesn't depend on your product, but your buyers. Let's take a look at the companies, their buyers, and their strategy. At the end I'll give you a model for working this out for yourself. Desktop Computers For my first example, let's take a company that wants to own the desktop computing market. Firstly, come up with something that's truly amazing and different, clever, unique. Take that to as broad a market as you possibly can, and this is what the company I'm about to talk about did. Take it to as broad a market as you possibly can. Find out from that early market experience what group of buyers are likely to be a good market for you to focus on in the future. Start very broadly, selling very widely. Find the pattern and then find a niche that you think might be worth dominating, and then completely change the strategy and focus just on that. Leader in an enterprise software category For my second go to market strategy example, I'm going to pick an established player in an established market. Very different story. This established player in an established market had done such a good job of riding the enterprise applications market, that they were near dominant in that space. That's good news, but it's also bad news. The bad news is that pretty much all of the market, the enterprise market, had already bought either from this company, or from one of their competitors. Whilst they enjoyed the lion's share of the market, the market was pretty much drying up. Everybody had bought a product like this from either them or from their competitor. Challenger in enterprise software For my third go to market strategy example, again I'll stick to a mature market, but this time the company's not the gorilla. In fact, they're probably fourth on a good day. Maybe less, maybe fifth or sixth in the market. It's a big market, and they've done well, they've profited, and they've used those profits to continue to invest in sales and marketing as well as R&D. The problem is that as the market started to decline, their fortunes declined. They'll continue to invest, but they're investing in order to grow their share in a market that was pretty much consolidating. Now we're losing money hand over fist. What's the right strategy then? The Right Go-to-Market Strategy for Your Product Launch

41:07
Today in this post we will demonstrate how to integrate your product strategy with your go-to-market strategy. As a guide to the discussion, download our 10th annual workbook, How to Make Your Number in 2017. Turn to the product strategy Go-to-Market section that begins on pages 138 - 151 of the PDF. My interview with Terry Hicks, Chief Product Officer at Infusionsoft provides clarity on this topic. Infusionsoft is the leading provider of sales and marketing software for small businesses. Prior to Infusionsoft, Terry led Quickbooks online at Intuit, growing subscribers from 450,000 to 850,000 in under two years. That's a remarkable track record. Terry is responsible for the company’s entire product development process from determining where to focus the company’s efforts, through new product launch. Watch as we discuss how to integrate your product strategy with your go-to-market strategy. Your company is investing money in order to growth faster than their industry and competitors. Make sure you are getting it right by integrating your product strategy with your go to market strategy as Terry has. Terry provides three key ways to integrate the product and go-to-market strategies. Watch the episode to dive deep into the use case and think through the insights that can be ‘aha’ moments for your business. • First, Terry recommends really knowing and understanding your customer. Your product strategy and go-to-market strategy need to determine who you’re trying to serve, and what problems you’re trying to solve. • Second, really understand the customer’s behavior. The best way to do this is through testing. Because what customers say, and what they do, is often different. Terry recommends setting up simple tests to validate key hypothesis quickly. • And finally, Terry recommends understanding that the product is everyone’s responsibility. As you’re thinking about customer insights and product testing, include the cross-functional teams. Companies often spend about 30-40% of top line revenue on product, marketing and sales. This can be the largest expense on your income statement. Yet, many do not look at these as integrated expenses.

Writing Market and Product Requirements

02:26
Master Core Product Management Skills, the Full Product Lifecycle and Become a Certified Product Manager! Learn More About the Online Course: http://280.gr/2kHvqvr This is a snippet from 280 Group's Certified Product Manager – Online Course and Exam. Let’s start by looking at the difference between “market” requirements and “product” requirements. Then, we’ll see why writing QUALITY requirements with the CUSTOMER IN MIND is critical to the success of our products. In the first phase of the Optimal Product Process, which is the Conceive phase, we come up with ideas for new products We refer to this as starting in the “problem space” and moving to the “solution space.” Developing requirements is a similar proposition. We start by understanding the market need. This often takes the form of a Market Requirements Document or MRD. From there we can define a solution or product, which includes product features that solve the need. This is traditionally in the form of a Product Requirements document or PRD. For Agile development teams, these requirements may appear as features in the product backlog used by developers describing what they need to build. So if we’re talking about a MARKET requirement, we’re in the “problem space.” And if we are talking about product FEATURES, then we’re in the “solution space.” Now, this doesn’t mean we need to get bogged down in documentation for documentation’s sake. But there IS a lot of evidence that poorly defined requirements propagate more errors in the final product. If you expect the final solution to actually address the problem you’ve identified, then you MUST invest in creating clear and quality market requirements. You then work with engineering to translate this into an agreed upon set of product requirements. The most fundamental ingredient in a good requirement is the customer. Who are they? What’s their story? What problems are they facing? What outcome are they hoping to achieve? When it comes to defining products, Product Managers often skip right over the back story and true needs and start talking about features. Before writing a requirement it is more effective to give engineers the full customer context – the back story helping to frame the problem. When engineers have a deep understanding of the customer need and the problem they are solving they will often come up with a solution that is much better than if a Product Manager hands them a feature list.

The Hunt for Product/Market Fit — Sachin Rekhi

44:56
The hunt for finding product/market fit in an early-stage startup is an elusive one, often fraught with chaos, and certainly never easy. However learning to leverage a cycle of defining, validating, and iterating on each of your most critical product/market fit hypotheses is a sure-fire way to bring some predictability to the process and provide guidance on whether your team is getting closer or farther from the ultimate goal. In this presentation, Sachin Rekhi, serial entrepreneur who built products including Anywhere.FM, a web music player, and Connected, a contact management tool, and advisor to early stage startup companies, shares a framework and best practices to bring much needed discipline to the hunt for product/market fit. Learn more about this talk on Sachin's blog: http://www.sachinrekhi.com/blog/2015/12/05/the-hunt-for-product-market-fit Speaker: Sachin Rekhi
Long-run product market fit means you have to shape your market

12:22
We have argued for years the need to find an unsolved problem, and to become the best in the world at solving it. But what do you most need to get right? The product, the market, or the marketing of that product to that market? As Marc Andreessen - cofounder of Mosaic and Netscape, major investor, and board member of Facebook, eBay and HP says “Product market fit means being in a good market with a product that can satisfy that market.” Sean Ellis - godfather of growth hacking says that until you have 40% product market fit, forget about hiring marketing and sales. As a sales and marketing professional of 30 years, am I offended? Not in the least. But do you listen to your market or does your market listen to you?

Agile Product Marketing & Management for Enterprise Software Start-ups

04:59
VIEW THE FULL PRESENTATION HERE http://grandview.rymatech.com/2007/90-agile-product-marketing-a-management-for-enterprise-software-start-ups.html Every start-up faces the challenges of managing its product road map and meeting customer's business needs at the same time. Managing these product and customer needs results in conflicting priorities. This challenge is even bigger for start-ups in the enterprise software space because there are lots of product gaps, customer's business is unique, implementations are long drawn, deal size is big, there are fewer deals and the start-up is facing competition for large established companies. Product marketing and management now has to create a balance between building the right features and functions for the base product and at the same time build them in a way that helps the organization grow its customer base and hence its revenue. If the features and functions are built randomly per customer's need then the company ends up with a product that cannot be used by other customers. On the other hand if the product is built to support generic business flows, then this leads to longer implementation times and too many customizations. This presentation covers some key product management and marketing practices that allow companies to create harmony in managing product road map and customer's business needs in an enterprise software space.
