Specifically how I think it shows off Miller as a master of minimalism. Sin City's visuals are so stark, but there's a real genius to them, so I wanted to take a look at explaining some of that through the opening handful of pages of That Yellow Bastard. It discusses how mostly the images are all made up by focusing on three specific things: theme, mood, and story. By using that as his focal point for every panel, Miller is able to condense and reduce every image to it's central point and idea. If you're a fan of Strip Panel Naked, the channel keeps making episodes thanks to the support of patrons at the Patreon. If you enjoy the episodes, there's tonnes and tonnes of extra content there to get access to. These are some of the shots I supervised for the Big Fat Kill segment of Sin City, in 2005, at CafeFX. I also did animation, lighting, effects, & tracking for several shots, as well as a little compositing. There were approximately 550 'digital backlot' FX shots in The Big Fat Kill segment that were mostly rendered in Lightwave 7.5, and composited in Digital Fusion 4. The CG Dwight flying thru the air, and the car crash shot were handled in Maya. Explosions were created using Afterburn in Max. RealFlow was used for liquids. I was a fan of the first graphic novel and had thought about how to realize it as a movie since the early 90s. Rodriguez was a great client to work for as he was wide open to ideas. I had the freedom to invent compositions and add my own details. I would rather have worked on the Marv story, but I knew the material well and lucked into an opportunity to contribute to a unique project. Sin City was nominated for Palme d'Or at Cannes.

Get 100's of FREE Video Templates, Music, Footage and More at Motion Array: http://bit.ly/2ThVUnO In this video we explore how to create the sin city effect, otherwise known as the solo color effect. This is where you create a shot that is black and white except for one color which stands out in the frame. This effect can be very powerful as it immediately draws the attention of the audience to the object left in color. This style is created using the "leave color" effect inside of Premiere Pro. The process is incredibly simple and is achieved by selecting the desired color to be left saturated from right within your video frame. Once this is done, simply using the "amount to decolor" parameter as well as tolerance and softening will help you to achieve a more finessed look. I hope you found this video helpful. My buddy Chad Draheim from Madison, WI put a Vegas style casino (craps table, poker table, blackjack table, bar, etc.) in his basement, and the HGTV show "Man Land" filmed an episode in it! The clip is "Sin City Style" from the premiere episode of the show which aired May 30, 2009. Interesting note is that the the show was filmed in 2007--his basement is even more tricked out now!

This is the same night we filmed for Punoi's EM1 teaser part 2. A lot of people are wondering when the full video is going to be out and are getting anxious to see it. Well he is trying to fix some problems with his car before we shoot for the full video so I had these clips laying around and didn't want them to go to waste. I also had the idea to make these clips to be a prologue to the full edit as an introductory. This car wash was where it all started since the first video so it makes sense to shoot here again as a start. While I was editing this, I thought I'd try to make it sin city style making the clips showing only blue, mainly the car itself. Sometimes the light source is blue-ish so some scenes will show a little bit of full color. I apologize for those who are waiting for the video to come out but please be patient with us and we'll make this video amazing like the first or even better. Until then please enjoy the prologue. I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou Creating a Background in Photoshop Creating a background for a composite image in Photoshop can be very fun, as you can choose every element that appears in your photo. In order to create a Sin City inspired image we need all of the pieces of the puzzle to appear in the same style, so choosing a sky, buildings, and snow for this image is necessary. The first thing you will need to do is gather background images, for this we recommend Fotolia. Once you have all of your photos together for creating a background it is time to composite them together. Start with objects that appear farthest from the camera and work your way forwards, in most cases the sky will be the bottom layer, as it is farthest from the camera. In this episode we show you how to combine multiple versions of the sky together to create a bit more mood. We also show you how to cut the original sky out of the city image and place the buildings over our chosen sky. The Magic of Clipping Masks Clipping masks are an essential part of compositing images together. In this episode we introduce you to clipping masks and the best ways to use them in Photoshop. We add buildings over the background sky but need to make the buildings darker. If you add a curves adjustment layer over everything it will make the buildings and the sky darker. By clipping the curves adjustment layer to the building layer, it will only effect the buildings. The best part about clipping masks is that you can clip many layers back to the original layer. Creating a Custom Brush for Snow If you have ever wanted to create snow or rain in an image, it is as easy as creating a custom brush in Photoshop. In this episode we show you how to create random shapes on a new document and turn them into a Brush Preset. From there you will learn how to alter the settings of the brush to add random patterns, making it look more like snow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for watching our free Phlearn Tutorials! Ok, so there's been some requests for this one, so why not? At first i though that there's not enough of characters for Sin City DC style, since Watchmen, V and Batman do not actually co-exist even in comic books. But then i just though - meh,who cares? It's just a silly fan made trailer. So there it is. I hope everyone is ok with Superman's cameo here. I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou The City: Photography Tutorial In this Photography tutorial we focus on three key elements necessary to produce this image. You will learn about lighting, styling and props and shooting for a composite. Lighting In terms of creating the "Sin City Style" lighting is the most important element. The look developed for the film was adapted from the original comic series and involves high contrast black and white images with harsh lighting. For the film they achieved this look through the use of "rim lighting". Rim lighting basically means placing lights behind your subject pointed towards the subject. This lighting creates a glow or "rim" of light around the subject, separating them from the background. In this video we explain how we set up our rim lighting to achieve the "Sin City Style". Styling and Props The styling for this image is relatively simple but remains important in the production of the final image. Because the move was produced mostly in black and white, the wardrobe had to mimic those colors. We see a lot of contrast in the clothing worn by the subjects - large black jackets with white our black shirts worn underneath. We also shoot with a prop gun to make the final image a bit more true to the original. These details may seem like a no-brainer but they are important in producing a final image that looks like the original. Shooting for a Composite You will learn what to do on set when shooting for a composite to make sure your process in Photoshop is quick and seamless. Much of the image was composited together in Photoshop without requiring a photo shoot. These details include the sky, the city, the snow and the text. The only thing we photographed for the image was the subject. When shooting for a composite it is important to keep your background as clean and consistent as possible. For this shoot that meant shooting on a green screen and lighting the background so that it was evenly colored from one side to another. Another great tip when shooting for a composite is to keep your lighting close to your subject as needed. When shooting an image on a regular background it is important to keep lighting and grip out of the shot, as they will interfere with the concept. That is not the case when shooting for a composite. Everything will be cut out of its background, so you can have all of these elements in frame if needed. No copyright infringement intended. All clips/audio belong to their rightful owners. Very old Angel vid of mine. Follows the lyrics pretty much, I guess. The final size of the file was over 2GB so that's why the quality is so bad - I had to keep sizing it down. Also, there were so many effects that it crashed my Vegas program. Each clip took at least 5 separate effects to achieve the SC look. So I also had to make it in halves and then open a new project and put them together. Another reason the bad quality... and... why am I still jabbering? "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by Smashing Pumpkins
