Given this, it’s perhaps not surprising that the spread of this idea has also been helped by various advertising campaigns done by Coca-Cola claiming just this. In fact, this idea actually started as a result of a Coca-Cola advertisement, but we’ll get to that in a bit. Cliff Kluge, a Georgia resident who loves finding and selling antiques, thinks he may have stumbled on a huge treasure: a copy of Coca-Cola's top secret recipe. Kluge and his wife, Arlene, purchased a set of papers from an recent estate. Among them, the soda recipe from 1943. Kluge believes the recipe is from Coca-Cola because of several "clues" within the paper, such as direct references to Coke. Additionally, it is very similar to a recipe for Coca-Cola that the radio program "This American Life" discovered in 2011.

The Coke Files reveal: • Coke’s influence on scientific studies • Coke’s close relationships with a network of influential scientists and academics • The details of payments to influential experts in the UK • The tactics being used behind the scenes to fight against the UK’s new Sugar Tax, including meetings with MP's and civil servants • How Coke has helped to resist the introduction of EU legislation relating to marketing to children The Coca Cola Company controls half the global soft drinks market; the one issue at the top of their agenda is a sugar tax. The Coke emails reveal it has been engaged in battles to fight sugar taxes in 10 countries including the UK. • Leaked emails from a Senior American Coke Executive show the company boasting of support from Tory politicians: “A campaign is underway to build a case against the tax with some promising support among Conservative Party members…Options to broaden the affected categories are being discussed if the tax cannot be defeated.” • Three days after this email was sent Coke met with Treasury Minister David Gauke MP the month after the announcement of the sugar tax • Minutes of the meeting showed that Coke recognised the British Government were tackling child obesity, but were doing it “the wrong way.” They said the sugar tax was “unfair” and “won’t work”. • They also managed to get a meeting with Sir Jeremy Heywood, Head of the Civil Service, where the company not only expressed their anger about the sugar tax but also threatened legal action. Coca-Cola says is “strives to be as transparent as possible”. Since 2015, it has published a list of experts it works with, and research it funds, on the company website. They say this goes further than any other UK food and drink company. Dispatches has obtained hundreds of emails between Coca Cola and academics across the globe - including Britain - showing just how close the drinks corporation is to a number of influential scientists. One of the people on that list is Professor Alan Boobis from Imperial College – an expert on food safety. The emails Dispatches has obtained reveal how Professor Alan Boobis, received payment of €1,000 a day for speaking at a conference. They also reveal him asking Coke to fund a conference he was involved in, for which Coke offered $10,000.

#facts #factmines #cocacola Coca-Cola, or Coke is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company. Originally intended as a patent medicine, it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton and was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coca-Cola to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century. The drink's name refers to two of its original ingredients: coca leaves, and kola nuts (a source of caffeine). The current formula of Coca-Cola remains a trade secret, although a variety of reported recipes and experimental recreations have been published. The Coca-Cola formula is the Coca-Cola Company's secret recipe for Coca-Cola syrup, which bottlers combine with carbonated water to create the company's flagship cola soft drink. Company founder Asa Candler initiated the veil of secrecy that surrounds the formula in 1891 as a publicity, marketing, and intellectual property protection strategy. While several recipes, each purporting to be the authentic formula, have been published, the company maintains that the actual formula remains a secret, known only to a very few select (and anonymous) employees. ----------------------------------------------------------------- In This World, There Are Many Secrets That Everyone Is Eager To Know About It Very Deeply. Follow us on Twitter - https://twitter.com/Darkest_C Here's the script - 5. Presence of Pesticides In 2003, a few farmers from the Indian subcontinent claimed that they had used samples of the drink on their crops. Surprisingly, most of the pests feeding on the plants were killed after the application of Coca Cola. This raised a big hue and cry across the country regarding the health hazards of the drink, which had emerged as one of the most preferred beverages among the Indian youth. Later, many videos also surfaced online where the drink was used to clean the rust on metallic objects and Coke even doubled as a cleaning agent to wipe tables and crockery to keep them sparkling clean. 4. Coca-Cola’s Cocaine Origins Widely circulated urban legends suggest that cocaine was once a major ingredient in Coca-Cola — and that the beverage was thus named after the drug. The name’s origin does, in fact, derive from coca leaf extract and kola nuts, but actual levels of cocaine were minimal, even in Coca-Cola’s earliest recipes. Still, even after concerns about cocaine emerged, the company insisted on using this ingredient. Business leaders worried that, if coca extract was no longer included in the recipe, it would lose the power of its unique name. 3. Secret Ingredient Several of Coca-Cola’s greatest advertising campaigns are centered on its alleged secret recipe, which, according to the company’s website, was not written down until 1919. After spending nearly a century locked in a bank, the recipe was moved to a high security vault at the World of Coca-Cola. Company leaders are not especially worried about the potential discovery of their so-called secret recipe; they simply amp up the mythical allure for the sake of their very successful marketing campaigns. 2. Racism the allegations of Racism have also tarnished the image of the soft drink manufacturing giant to a large extent. A lawsuit was filed against the firm for discriminating employees of Black origin, working in their American units. Apparently, Blacks weren’t promoted and were under-paid as compared to their white counterparts. The firm ended up paying a huge ransom as compensation for their racial practices. 1. Scandal in India Coke is often criticized for its wasteful practices, which include the use of several hundred billion gallons of water every year. In 2006, the company was blamed for a heavy water shortage in India. According to critics, farmers in Rajasthan were unable to properly irrigate their fields, thanks to the interference of a Coke bottling plant. This was certainly not the first Indian scandal surrounding Coca-Cola; a few years earlier, a report from the Pollution Monitoring Laboratory suggested that, due to weak regulations in India, local Coke products possessed traces of such toxic chemicals as malathion and linden. ***Music Credits- Intro - This House Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Body - "Myst on the Moor" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Today we're going to take a closer look at how a man that left school when he was 10 to work on his father's farm so that his little brother could go to school. He would go on to build one of the most recognizable companies in the world. This is the story of Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler and the top 3 lessons that you can learn from his success. "Every human life is made to fit some place, and there is a place for every life." - Asa Candler Asa Griggs Candler was born on December 30, 1851 in Villa Rica, Georgia, and was the eighth of eleven children. He grew up during the time of the American Civil War. Candler's father was a well-established merchant and property owner, but the war would take its toll on the family; they often had no more than the bare necessities. Candler's formal education began when he was five years old, but was sporadic throughout. When he was ten years old, he left school and spent his time working on his father's farm. While he could have opted to attend Emory College, he instead let his brother, Warren attend in his place. Candler was anxious to enter the working world. He had an interest in the medical field, but with no money for medical school, he decided to pursue a career as a druggist. He took on an apprenticeship with two pharmacists in his hometown, but his earnings were meagre. So, Candler decided to move to Atlanta in search of better opportunities. In 1873, with just $1.75 in his pocket, Candler made the move to Atlanta and landed a job with a local druggist, George J. Howard. His early success and work ethic led to his promotion as chief clerk. However, after a falling out with Howard, Candler decided to strike out on his own and become his own boss. Candler used to get migraines and one day they were so bad that he was willing to try whatever it took to get rid of it. He turned to a little known product that had been produced by a fellow Atlanta-based druggist, John Smyth Pemberton. Pemberton had created something called "Coca-Cola," his own personal fizzy 'brain tonic' and headache medicine that combined coca leaves and kola nuts. He had been selling the drink for five cents a glass at his own drugstore. It was created in his back yard in a three-legged fifteen-gallon pot that stood over a fire, and when Candler sampled it, he was immediately hooked. In what appeared to be a rash decision to onlookers, Candler decided at once to sell his entire stock of drugs, paints, oils, glass, and fancy clothes. He sold off everything he could and raised roughly $50,000. He initially invested $500 into Pemberton's company, but by the end of 1891, he had managed to gain control over the entire Coca-Cola product for just $2,300. He used the rest of the money to continue manufacturing and marketing the drink. Coca-Cola was born. Action Item #1: Make People Remember Your Product Action Item #2: Be Unique Action Item #3: If it Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It True Story Asa Candler was a strong businessperson and aggressive when it came to all of his ventures, but he believed personal wealth should benefit the community. Unheard of in his day, he would challenge other wealthy business people to match everything he gave to charity. A lot of this money went towards the building of Wesley Memorial Hospital, which is now known as Emory University Hospital. Candler did a lot for education and is considered the founder of Emory University. According to one story, he would not associate with other business people that did not share his point of view about giving back to the community. This feeling was proven in public when he slapped one of the richest men in Atlanta at the time for not giving money to help expand Emory University. This story ran in all the local newspapers and was front-page news for more than a week, until the wealthy businessperson finally gave $12,500 to the university and did it publicly. Quotes "I wish that the characteristic excellence of our people may be made better and that the things which blemish our lives may be speedily obliterated." "The product sold itself, I just wanted to remind people it was one of a kind." "Every human life is made to fit some place, and there is a place for every life." What Do You Think? Do you make your marketing memorable? Is your product unique or have unique features? Are you making changes that do not need to be made? Tell me what you think by leaving a message below.

A former senior engineer at Coca-Cola was indicted Thursday (Feb 14) in Tennessee for stealing trade secrets worth an estimated US$120 million to give to a Chinese company, the Justice Department announced. US national You Xiaorong allegedly stole technology for valuable BPA-free packaging jointly owned by several companies, including a former "Atlanta-based" employer that was unnamed in the indictment. A spokeswoman for Coca-Cola, whose headquarters is in Atlanta, declined to comment on the case but confirmed that You previously worked for the company. "Because this is a pending legal matter, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further," she said. According to the indictment, You conspired with Chinese national Liu Xiangchen and an unnamed relative of Liu to steal formulations for food packing coatings that are free of the widely-used bisphenol-A chemical, which scientists have discovered in recent years is harmful to human health. Alternatives to BPA are scarce and highly valuable in the food packing industry. Liu wanted the technology for his company, which was planning to develop production lines for BPA-free packing, according to the indictment. In exchange, he offered You a job and also promised to help her win one of China's highest awards for research and innovation, the "Thousand Talents" award. The prestigious prize honours Chinese who return from study and work abroad bringing back with them technology that will advance China's economy. US intelligence officials say the program also aims to encourage Chinese abroad to steal technology to bring to China. You "is accused of an egregious, premeditated theft and transfer of trade secrets worth more than US$100 million for the purpose of setting up a Chinese company that would compete with the American companies from which the trade secrets were stolen," said J. Douglas Overbey, US Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee. "Unfortunately, China continues to use its national programs, like the 'Thousand Talents,' to solicit and reward the theft of our nation's trade secrets and intellectual property."

Coca-Cola, or Coke, is a carbonated soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. Originally intended as a patent medicine, it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton and was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coca-Cola to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century. The drink's name refers to two of its original ingredients, which were kola nuts (a source of caffeine) and coca leaves. The current formula of Coca-Cola remains a trade secret, although a variety of reported recipes and experimental recreations have been published. The Coca-Cola Company produces concentrate, which is then sold to licensed Coca-Cola bottlers throughout the world. The bottlers, who hold exclusive territory contracts with the company, produce the finished product in cans and bottles from the concentrate, in combination with filtered water and sweeteners. A typical 12-US-fluid-ounce (350 ml) can contains 38 grams (1.3 oz) of sugar (usually in the form of high fructose corn syrup). The bottlers then sell, distribute, and merchandise Coca-Cola to retail stores, restaurants, and vending machines throughout the world. The Coca-Cola Company also sells concentrate for soda fountains of major restaurants and foodservice distributors. The Coca-Cola Company has on occasion introduced other cola drinks under the Coke name. The most common of these is Diet Coke, along with others including Caffeine-Free Coca-Cola, Diet Coke Caffeine-Free, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola Cherry, Coca-Cola Vanilla, and special versions with lemon, lime, and coffee. Based on Interbrand's "best global brand" study of 2015, Coca-Cola was the world's third most valuable brand, after Apple and Google. In 2013, Coke products were sold in over 200 countries worldwide, with consumers drinking more than 1.8 billion company beverage servings each day.
