How Deep Is the Ocean In Reality?
A whopping 94% of all life-forms on Earth are aquatic. Such a huge number of living beings who can't survive without water is understandable. After all, more than 70% of our planet's surface is covered with water. The World Ocean includes the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean. There's enough water in the oceans to fill a 685-mile-long bathtub! One of the main nagging questions people have been asking for ages is "How deep is the ocean in reality?" Let’s find an answer to it. #marianatrench #deepplace #deepocean TIMESTAMPS Sunlit zone 1:21 Twilight zone 6:17 Midnight zone 10:19 The abyss 13:17 Trench zone 14:25 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -The Sunlit zone stretches from 14.5 ft, that is is the depth of a standard Olympic diving pool, to 561 ft under the water’s surface, where RMS Carpathia found her last dwelling. This ship became famous after her participation in the rescue of the Titanic survivors. -At 656 ft, the twilight zone begins. That's where you can see the giant oarfish. At a depth of 1,453 ft, you could reach the height of the Empire State Building if somebody powerful enough decided to submerge it under the water. The giant squid lives as deep as 2,952 ft below the surface. This is where the Twilight zone ends. -At a depth of 3,608 ft, there's the deepest volcano recorded by scientists. At 12,795 ft below the water’s surface, there are Air France flight 447 black boxes. Airbus A330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009. This is where the Midnight zone ends. -At a depth of 13,123 ft, the midnight zone ends, and the abyss lies ahead. 18,897 ft is the bottom of the abyss and the depth at which you can find the deepest shipwreck. SS Rio Grande sunk in 1941 in the South Atlantic and was discovered only in 1996. -At a depth of 19,685 ft, the abyss ends and gives way to the trench zone. At a depth of 36,070 ft, you will reach the very bottom of the ocean in its deepest point known to man: Challenger Deep. How Close Are We to Completely Mapping the Ocean?
We’ve mapped other planets to more detail than we have our own oceans. How close are we to a complete ocean map? “The Swim” Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGg-1xQbd5M&list=PL6uC-XGZC7X7iQ31AN0hszm5a3RCosk00 Read More: The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project https://seabed2030.gebco.net/ “Seabed 2030 is a collaborative project between the Nippon Foundation and GEBCO. It aims to bring together all available bathymetric data to produce the definitive map of the world ocean floor by 2030 and make it available to all. It builds on more than 100 years of GEBCO's history in global seafloor mapping” Why The First Complete Map of the Ocean Floor Is Stirring Controversial Waters Read more: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/first-complete-map-ocean-floor-stirring-controversial-waters-180963993/ “It could also be potentially lifesaving: Even today, the lack of a detailed map can be deadly, as was the case when the USS San Francisco crashed into an uncharted mountain in 2005. “People have been excited about going to different planets,” says Martin Jakobsson, professor of marine geology and geophysics at Stockholm University, but “we haven’t been able to bring the attention to our own Earth in the same way as Mars. It hasn’t been easy to rally the whole world behind us.” Yet at the same time, some ecologists fear that such a map will also aid mining industries who seek profit in the previously unattainable depths of the Earth.” The Ocean: Haven’t We Already Mapped It? https://schmidtocean.org/cruise-log-post/the-ocean-havent-we-already-mapped-it/ “Most of the seafloor that has been mapped thoroughly is close to shore. Thanks to all of the hydrographers that constantly survey the world’s coastlines, we now have nautical charts (specialized maps) that are used to safely navigate ships. Coastal areas are well surveyed and often re-surveyed because seafloor conditions continuously change, especially close to shore. Hydrographers make sure that ships have the information they need to navigate safely by detecting and reporting new hazards to navigation with each chart update.” ____________________ How close are we to colonizing the moon, mapping the human brain and curing cancer? 3 chart datum tide heights chart datum 1
Let's have a closer look at "Tidal Heights" and "Chart Datum". On nautical charts, soundings and drying heights are measured from Chart Datum. Chart Datum is the Lowest Astronomical Tide or L A T , meaning the lowest level to which the tide is expected to fall. All depths on a chart are measured below chart datum and all drying heights are measured above it. Non-drying heights, for example a lighthouse, are always measured above Mean High Water Springs, not Chart Datum, as an added safety margin. The height of tide is always measured above Chart Datum.

Fishing Lure Color Selection (Part 2): Depth Affects What Colors Fish Can See
Want access to some cool lure color selection charts? Go to my website at https://makewoodenlures.com/lure-color-selection/ In part one of this 4 part series we looked at how water dims the light and reduces fishing lure color intensity. In this video we'll look at how it can actually change the colors that fish can see. This means that what fish eyes are capable of seeing becomes less important. Because they simply can't see something that is not there! It's as though fish are looking at your lures through a piece of blue cellophane that gets darker the deeper into the water they go. Try it for yourself- have a look at some lure colors through blue cellophane. Even though you might have full color vision, you can only see the colors that remain after the cellophane has filtered the others out. In clean, clear water the red wavelengths of sunlight are the first ones to be removed. And as you go deeper the oranges, yellows and greens disappear too. So my advice is always to stop thinking about what colors fish can see - and start thinking about what colors are present for them to see. I'm sure you'll agree that the deeper the water becomes the less important lure color selection becomes!

What is DEPTH CHART? What does DEPTH CHART mean? DEPTH CHART meaning, definition & explanation
What is DEPTH CHART? What does DEPTH CHART mean? DEPTH CHART meaning - DEPTH CHART definition - DEPTH CHART explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. In sports, a depth chart is used to show the placements of the starting players and the secondary players. Generally a starting player will be listed first or on top while a back-up will be listed below. Depth charts also tend to resemble the actual position locations of certain players. The typical Major League Baseball depth chart consists of a list of players at each position, with the starter or first-string player listed first, followed by replacement and platoon players. For fantasy baseball, typical preseason projection systems such as PECOTA construct depth charts that specify not just the order of the players at each position (starter, replacement or bench player) but also the amount of playing time each person at that position will have. For example, at first base one player may be projected as playing 60 percent of the innings, and another 40 percent for the coming season, while at catcher one player may be projected as playing 80 percent of the innings, and another 20 percent. For pitchers, the depth charts project the number of innings each roster player will pitch. The line system in ice hockey follows the same structure as a depth chart. The term depth chart is now also being used from the perspective of management theory, to address the process of key positioning leaders within the organization, considering a dynamic life cycle perspective which includes developmental tasks such as those cited in books and articles related to the leadership pipeline subject. A depth chart analysis for key positioning leaders should affect the development of leadership training programs and high performance development initiatives in modern corporations and enterprises.

Fishing Lure Color Selection (Part 1). How Colors Look Underwater
Check out my lure color selection charts at https://makewoodenlures.com/lure-color-selection/ Fishing lure colors are less intense under water, that’s a fact. And that's because there’s much less light beneath the water surface. Yep, even on bright sunny days the light is more subdued down below. Even in the ultra-clear waters of our deepest oceans the light penetrates a surprisingly short distance into the depths. So as fishermen, the lure colors we select that look so bright and alluring (pun) in sunlight can look much more drab to the fish. It makes you wonder if lure color selection is so important after all. Water acts like a giant filter that dulls down the intensity of the incoming light. Fish eyes, like our own, need reasonably intense light in order to detect color. Remove that light and your lure colors go with it. This video explains how and why that happens. It's a great example of why lure color selection should come after action, sound, dive depth and other factors. If you'd like a lot more detail and access to some lure color selection charts, skip over to my website at https://makewoodenlures.com/lure-color-selection/

TeamSurv Crowd Sourcing Depth Data
http://www.teamsurv.eu An innovative and elegant means of acquiring hydrographic survey data using data that is normally thrown away. The purpose of this film is to support a grant application. Presented by Tim Thornton. More videos at http://www.youtube.com/icatchingmovies Transcript: There's a problem in navigation at sea. Depth information on charts is often inaccurate or out of date.. In Cornwall these inshore areas have never been surveyed and these other depths were measured by throwing a weighted line over the side of a boat. And the position was determined by compass and sextant. Significantly less accurate than a GPS and depth sounder. The UK Hydrographic Office states that around 50% of UK coastal waters have not been adequately surveyed. This impacts both commercial and leisure mariners. At present making a chart requires an expensive survey conducted by specialist companies. The many vessels around the coast can help provide an alternative survey method. Most of these have modern depth sounders and GPS. When logged this information provides the basis for continually updated surveys. TeamSurv are developing a system which aggregates, cleans and analyses this data to produce a massive survey of all areas where boats go. Crowd Sourcing and advanced algorithms result in a disruptive technology; a cost effective way of improving the simplest and most important navigational aid - the chart. Our solution is simple. A small box is connected into the instruments. A USB memory stick collects the data which is periodically uploaded via the Internet. Our servers then use advanced algorithms to correct for tide height and other factors to create chart data which will be licensed to hydrographic offices, coastal engineers, harbour authorities and other users. This can be scaled to operate globally. Funding will provide marketing, hardware and infrastructure resources enabling us to quickly achieve critical mass beyond the current trial areas. The TeamSurv project will help all seafarers navigate more safely using accurate, current and detailed information whether using paper or electronic charts.

An ocean (from Ancient Greek Ὠκεανός (Okeanos); the World Ocean of classical antiquity[1]) is a body of saline water that composes much of a planet's hydrosphere.[2] On Earth, an ocean is one or all of the major divisions of the planet's World Ocean -- which are, in descending order of area, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern (Antarctic), and Arctic Oceans.[3][4] The word sea is often used interchangeably with "ocean" in American English but, strictly speaking, a sea is a body of saline water (generally a division of the World Ocean) that land partly or fully encloses.[5] Earth is the only planet that is known to have an ocean (or any large amounts of open liquid water). Saline water covers approximately 72% of the planet's surface (~3.6x108 km2) and is customarily divided into several principal oceans and smaller seas, with the ocean covering approximately 71% of the Earth's surface.[6] The ocean contains 97% of the Earth's water, and oceanographers have stated that only 5% of the World Ocean has been explored.[6] The total volume is approximately 1.3 billion cubic kilometres (310 million cu mi)[7] with an average depth of 3,682 metres (12,080 ft).[8] The ocean principally comprises Earth's hydrosphere and therefore is integral to all known life, forms part of the carbon cycle, and influences climate and weather patterns. It is the habitat of 230,000 known species, although much of the ocean's depths remain unexplored, and over two million marine species are estimated to exist.[9] The origin of Earth's oceans remains unknown; oceans are believed to have formed in the Hadean period and may have been the impetus for the emergence of life. Extraterrestrial oceans may be composed of water or other elements and compounds. The only confirmed large stable bodies of extraterrestrial surface liquids are the lakes of Titan, although there is evidence for the existence of oceans elsewhere in the Solar System. Early in their geologic histories, Mars and Venus are theorized to have had large water oceans. The Mars ocean hypothesis suggests that nearly a third of the surface of Mars was once covered by water, and a runaway greenhouse effect may have boiled away the global ocean of Venus. Compounds such as salts and ammonia dissolved in water lower its freezing point, so that water might exist in large quantities in extraterrestrial environments as brine or convecting ice. Unconfirmed oceans are speculated beneath the surface of many dwarf planets and natural satellites; notably, the ocean of Europa is believed to have over twice the water volume of Earth. The Solar System's gas giant planets are also believed to possess liquid atmospheric layers of yet to be confirmed compositions. Oceans may also exist on exoplanets and exomoons, including surface oceans of liquid water within a circumstellar habitable zone. Ocean planets are a hypothetical type of planet with a surface completely covered with liquid seehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean

159: Thomas Rawls storms the depth chart, Sherman sets the story straight, and another visit to...
OTAs have wrapped up, the Seahawks mandatory minicamp is over, and now we get into a dark period of a couple weeks before training camp starts. The good news is the season is just around the corner! So far news about the heath of players has been positive as well and nobody sounds more excited than Thomas Rawls. Rawls is so excited, he feels like he needs to take up more than one spot on the depth chart. Adam and Brandan discuss why we fans should remember what had us so excited about Thomas Rawls as the team's #1 running back. The guys take a look at what has Coach Carroll fired up coming out of minicamp and his thoughts on the offensive line, Jimmy Graham and the guy who sounds like has the edge coming into training camp to take over the cornerback spot opposite Richard Sherman. Pete isn't the only coach fired up, in fact, Tom Cable says he's the most excited coach on the team. The NFL Network's Top 100 is nearing a conclusion. All the Seahawks on the list have been named, and there are a couple players who finished ahead of Seattle's top players that are really bothering Adam and Brandan. The Top 100 talk doesn't stop with NFL Network, because a trip to Prisco's World shows us that Pete can make mistakes with his player rankings as well. In the second half of the show, we check in on Marshawn Lynch and our current feeling on his situation. In the email segment we talk about a couple players going into their second year who haven't seen a lot of action and revisit a topic and potential conspiracy theory that can be put to rest. Pro Football Focus and the hoverboard marketing team get taking to task in the do better segment, while a couple of defensive lineman (one current and one former) earn Better At Life honors. Who Lives at the Bottom of the Bermuda Triangle?
There is one special place that simultaneously terrifies and has unexplainable pull: 300 ships gone missing, 75 aircrafts never found; you're right, that's all about the Bermuda Triangle. Few people are aware of what the life is like at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle – are you ready to meet the most shocking and scary creatures ever? Dragonfish live at the staggering depth of 5 to 7 thousand feet. This fish looks quite terrifying, with its black coloring and the light it produces on its own. Unlike other deep-water inhabitants, dragonfish produces light in the infrared range while the blue and green range is what other fish stick to. Vampire Squid has the largest eyes in terms of proportions in the world and is born to live in the depth. These animals are also covered with photophores which distract predators and lure prey. The mouth of the gulper eel is loosely hinged which makes it extremely wide and big. In fact, the length of the jaw of the eel reaches one-fourth of the length of their body. Despite being the owner of an enormous mouth, the gulper eel has tiny teeth, and this means that it isn't supposed to prey on large animals. The Goblin Shark reaches 13 ft in size and is also called the Vampire Shark due to the fact that it avoids light at all cost. Due to this feature, you can see the shark in its natural habitat only if you go as deep as 890 to 4300 ft. Pharynx, a complex feeding apparatus that helps Eunice Aphroditois catch the prey, can turn inside out, not unlike glove fingers. It has strong and extremely sharp mandibles which can easily cut the prey in half due to the strength and speed of the worm's attack. These are just some of the creatures that lurk in the depth of the Bermuda Triangle. Who knows what other unbelievable horror-movie beasts we can meet there? Nobody knows for sure what makes crafts disappear in this area. -Dragonfish looks quite terrifying, with its black coloring and the light it produces on its own in case of danger. -The Vampire Squid has is bright red eyes and crimson cloak that looks like webbing. In case of a threat, these creatures can invert their skin exposing their spines. -The pouch-like structure of the lower jaw allows the eel to deposit its prey there. Even the stomach of the eel can stretch so much that the creature can hold there a huge amount of food. -The Goblin Shark reaches 13 ft in size and is also called the Vampire Shark due to the fact that it avoids light at all cost. As soon as the prey appears in the vicinity, the jaw of the shark will elongate and grab it. -The worm buries itself in the seafloor with just a fraction of its body exposed. It has five antennae it uses to sense the prey. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. Ocean's Tides Explained
Ocean’s tides are explained in this video: How the tides work? Why the oceans experience two high tides and two low tides each day? The oceans on the earth's surface are attracted to the moon through the effects of gravity. Because the strength of the gravitational attractions depend on the separation distance of objects, the oceans on both sides of the earth, as well as the earth itself, experience different gravitational forces towards the moon, causing two oceanic bulges which result in two high tides daily. The video also explains why tides as well as moon rise and moon set are 50 minutes later each day, based on the moon's orbit around the earth. We provide lesson plans, hands-on classroom resources, demonstration equipment, quizzes and a Teacher's Manual to primary school teachers. Animated videos that clearly explain the scientific ideas supports learning by both teachers and students. As a teacher, you don't have to look anywhere else to implement this program. Our work has been verified by science education researchers at the University of Southern Queensland, Dr Jenny Donovan and Dr Carole Haeusler, who confirm that primary students are capable of learning much more complex scientific concepts than previously thought, and crucially, that they love it. Students run to class! The program has been trialed in Australian schools as well as schools in the Philippines, Iran and India. It is conducted as holiday workshops at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, the Queensland Museum as well as the World Science Festival. It has attracted wide media interest, including TV, radio and print, and the research data has been presented at prestigious American Education Research Association and Australian Science Education Research Association conferences. Atomic Theory underlies all the other sciences- genetics, electronics, nanotechnology, engineering and astronomy- so an early understanding will set them up for a more successful learning sequence for all their science subjects, and support their mastery of mathematics as well. We also have extension programs that cover Biology, Physics and Astronomy to an equal depth. About Ian Stuart (Email: [email protected]): The founder of Atomic School, Ian Stuart, taught Chemistry and Physics for 25 years at senior levels before he realized that his 8-year old son, Tom, could understand Atomic Theory at a much deeper level than he expected. After visiting Tom's class at school, he discovered that his peers could also grasp the abstract scientific concepts, as well as apply it usefully to the real world. Ian then developed a program to teach the advanced concepts of high school Chemistry, Physics and Biology to students 10 years younger than they normally would. He found that this engaged their interest in modern science early, and sustained it through to high school and beyond. It also sets them up for future success in their academic and career paths. Ian has a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Queensland and a Master's degree in Electrochemistry from the University of Melbourne. Nautical Charts Reading Charts (1999) US Navy Navigation Training

Nautical Charts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautical_chart A nautical chart is a graphic representation of a sea area and adjacent coastal regions. Depending on the scale of the chart, it may show depths of water and heights of land (topographic map), natural features of the seabed, details of the coastline, navigational hazards, locations of natural and human-made aids to navigation, information on tides and currents, local details of the Earth's magnetic field, and human-made structures such as harbours, buildings and bridges. Nautical charts are essential tools for marine navigation; many countries require vessels, especially commercial ships, to carry them. Nautical charting may take the form of charts printed on paper or computerized electronic navigational charts. Recent technologies have made available paper charts which are printed "on demand" with cartographic data that has been downloaded to the commercial printing company as recently as the night before printing. With each daily download, critical data such as Local Notices to Mariners are added to the on-demand chart files so that these charts are up to date at the time of printing. Nautical charts are based on hydrographic surveys. As surveying is laborious and time-consuming, hydrographic data for many areas of sea may be dated and not always reliable. Depths are measured in a variety of ways. Historically the sounding line was used. In modern times, echo sounding is used for measuring the seabed in the open sea. When measuring the safe depth of water over an entire obstruction, such as a shipwreck, the minimum depth is checked by sweeping the area with a length of horizontal wire. This ensures that difficult to find projections, such as masts, do not present a danger to vessels navigating over the obstruction. Nautical charts are issued by power of the national hydrographic offices in many countries. These charts are considered "official" in contrast to those made by commercial publishers. Many hydrographic offices provide regular, sometimes weekly, manual updates of their charts through their sales agents. Individual hydrographic offices produce national chart series and international chart series. Coordinated by the International Hydrographic Organization, the international chart series is a worldwide system of charts ("INT" chart series), which is being developed with the goal of unifying as many chart systems as possible. There are also commercially published charts, some of which may carry additional information of particular interest, e.g. for yacht skippers.
