How to travel the world with almost no money | Tomislav Perko | TEDxTUHH

18:19
Many people daydream about traveling the world, but all of them have the same excuse - lack of money. Tomislav, after traveling the world for years with almost no money, shows how it is possible for everyone to do the same, if they really want to. Tomislav Perko, 29, is a travel writer from Croatia. After a career of a stockbroker, broke because of the financial crisis, he hits the road and turns it into his home. He uses alternative ways of traveling – hitchhiking, couchsurfing, working/volunteering, and manages to wander around the world with just a little bit of money in his pocket, meeting the most amazing people on the way. Five years later, he publishes a book “1000 Days of Spring” and goes around giving lectures about what it means to live on the road. Find out more on his website: http://tomislavperko.com/en/. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

How I Planned My Round The World Trip

14:11
In this video I'm going to show you how I planned my round the world trip. Travelling long-term can be a challenge as there are many things that need to be done: planning your itinerary according to seasons and trying to spend as little money on flights as possible, deciding how much time you want to spend in each country (and which countries to go to in the first place!), quitting your job, cancelling your lease, obtaining visas and more. I am going to give you an overview of what I did in order to be fully prepared for my round the world trip. .................................................................... This island off the coast of India has long been on my bucket-list for loads of reasons, like having the best safari outside of Africa, boasting eight UNESCO World Heritage sites to explore, and lots of lovely, gorgeous beaches complete with idyllic white sand and crystal clear water that's perfect for surfing. In fact, for an island about a ¼ of the size of the UK, there's loads to see and do, depending,  of course, on what you want out of your trip. Coming up, I'm going to tell you about getting here, some tips on transport, then some stuff on food, money and language and some awesome places to visit. So, let's get on with it… We flew 10 hours direct from Heathrow to Colombo, which is Sri Lanka’s capital city. Flights arrive at Bandaranaike International airport, which is 30km north of the city. Taxis are very cheap in Sri Lanka, and this can be the easiest, and certainly quickest way to reach your destination from the airport. If you’re heading straight into Colombo you can catch the express bus which takes about 25 minutes, but to be honest the taxis are so cheap it’s a no-brainer. To enter the country, you’re gonna need a visa. Now this can be done when you get here, but, after ten hours in the air ..why bother with the extra admin!? Get it done before you leave. Applications cost $35 and take around 24 hours to process. Also, you’re gonna need to make sure that your vaccinations are up to date, like your tetanus and typhoid. Check with your GP beforehand. What do you need to know about public transport in Sri Lanka? Well, in all honesty, quite a bit… Public transport conditions aren't great, but are popular with locals as it's very cheap. Buses tend to leave when they’re full, so for anyone on a schedule we’d give them a miss. Also, trains are often slower and less efficient than simply getting a taxi. My advice: take anything described as luxury or express with a generous pinch of salt. The key thing in Sri Lanka is that your money goes a long way, for example our two-hour taxi  from Colombo to Unawatuna cost 9000 rupees, which is about 40 quid, so for this reason we made the most of getting around with private car hire and tuk-tuks. Hiring a driver to chauffeur you around is surprisingly affordable and, let's face it, way more luxurious! It's also a big timesaver which is a massive a bonus. The roads are in surprisingly good condition... ...just watch out for the tourists, the cyclists, the buffalo, stray dogs, and massive lizards they all make it a little hair-raising at times. We used Uber to navigate Colombo and Red Cabs for everywhere else. Failing that you could always haggle for a tuk tuk, which are ideal for quick journeys. There are a couple of things you need to know before you start off. Number 1 always agree the price before settings off and number 2 be direct about where you want to go, don’t settle for any detours or any other places they might want to take you. Anyway, up next, here are some of my favourite things to do in Sri Lanka. Unawatuna is loved by locals and tourists alike, and with palm trees, white sands and blue waters, it's easy to see why it’s one of Sri Lanka’s most popular beaches. Right behind the beach is a small shopping strip for souvenirs and restaurants... … And Ladies, going topless on the beach is a definite no-no, and if you're a couple, make the P in PDA stand for PRIVATE, not PUBLIC. OK, Newsflash!!! Sri Lanka has the best safari outside of Africa since the country has one of the highest rates of indigenous plants and animals in the world. Udawalawe National Park is a personal highlight of mine and home to some 200 different species.
London Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

http://www.expedia.com/London.d178279.Destination-Travel-Guides A trip to London might as well be a trip through history. This city has long been a hub for finance, education, and culture, and is full of modern construction mixed with ancient buildings. Your London tour must include St. Paul’s Cathedral, one of its most well-known churches. You’ll also want to see the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster, and Westminster Abbey for exquisite examples of the city’s famous architectural landmarks. Walk or jog through numerous green spaces, among them Hyde Park and Green Park, in the center of London. Continue your London sightseeing in the West End, where you’ll find ancient buildings converted into modern shops, restaurants, bars, and shows. You’ll find one of the largest theatre districts in the world here, and can take in a different play almost every night of the week. For a real treat, climb aboard the London Eye, a giant, rotating Ferris wheel, and see the old and new parts of the city all at once. Barcelona Food Tour at LA BOQUERIA and Sagrada Familia - Barcelona, Spain, Travel Guide!

33:03
►Read my blog post about La Boqueria: https://goo.gl/jNnk1J ►Subscribe to my videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe ►Camera I use: http://amzn.to/2dEL3hv On Day 21 of our Round The World Trip for food with Star Alliance, we spent the day in Barcelona. Barcelona is an amazing food city, and one of the best places to start eating is at La Boqueria. After eating and wandering, we headed over to Sagrada Família for a breathtaking tour. It was an amazing day of food and attractions in Barcelona. 00:34 Breakfast at Cotton House Hotel - We started off the morning at our hotel by having a quick breakfast. The jamon and selection of cured meats was the highlight. 2:53 Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria - Often known in short just as La Boqueria, this historical market is a food lover's paradise and a pilgrimage destination. We arrived early in the morning and headed first to Bar Pinotxo to eat our second breakfast. I ordered an omelet with eggplant and a plate of garbanzo beans and blood sausage. The dish was simple, but it was incredibly delicious. Additionally, the coffee was extremely good. Total price - 12.80 EUR ($14.04) 6:59 El Quim De La Boqueria - After finishing with the first place of tapas, I wandered over to another legendary tapas bar within La Boqueria market known as El Quim De La Boqueria. It’s a very expensive place, but I knew I wanted to try the fried eggs with baby squid. The dish was a simple combination of ingredients, but it was cooked perfectly, and it was incredibly delicious. I also couldn’t resist a plate of fried chilies. Total price - 32.05 EUR ($35.16) There are dozens of things to eat and try at La Boqueria, and after all the salty food I was ready to have a passion fruit juice. And then finally, to conclude the Barcelona food tour of La Boqueria, I bought a cone of sliced Jamón Ibérico. 14:14 Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Cathedral - After an amazing food tour, we walked around the Christopher Columbus monument and then continued on walking around the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. The Barcelona Cathedral was originally closed when we arrived, but I came back in a few minutes and walked around the Barcelona Cathedral as well. 16:37 Xarcutería La Pineda - Located just around the corner from the Barcelona Cathedral, I headed over to a place called Xarcutería La Pineda (recommended by Chris English), to try the botifarra blanca and a cup of vermouth. It’s an amazing little family run shop with a fantastic array of meats and drinks. Total price - 11.50 EUR 21:25 Basílica de la Sagrada Família - One of the most famous attractions in Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia, a basilica that was famous designed by Antoni Gaudi. I had read and dreamed about visiting for many years, so I was very excited to finally have the chance to visit. What amazed me is how dark and gothic it looks from the outside, yet how light and happy it is on the inside. Sagrada Familia is truly a stunning architectural feat, and an attraction you must visit in Barcelona. Along with visiting the main part of Sagrada Familia, I also bought tickets to go to the Nativity Tower. Going to the top of the tower and walking down was the highlight of visiting. Price - 29.00 EUR per person w/ tower entrance 26:16 Catalan Food for dinner at Restaurant Portolés - For dinner Ying and I walked over to Restaurant Portolés, a local Catalan food restaurant. Some of the main dishes I ordered included Fideuà and Rollitos De Pollo, all of which were delicious. It’s a great restaurant to try in Barcelona. Total price - 26.50 EUR This was a fantastic day in Barcelona, packed with delicious food and attractions in Barcelona. Disclaimer and Thank You: Thank you to Star Alliance and their Round The World tickets (http://www.staralliance.com/en/round-the-world) for sponsoring my business class flights. Thank you to Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection for sponsoring my stay in Barcelona. I personally paid for all food and attractions in this video, and I decided what to do and where to eat. From the lively neighbourhoods of Wellington to the breathtaking Fiordland of the South Island, there's an adventure tucked away in every corner of this impressive country. Consider living out your own Lord of the Rings adventure in Hobbiton, or hike past Mt. Doom in Tongariro National Park. Not thrilling enough? Then skydive over Auckland, go white water rafting down Kaituna River or take a leap of faith and bungee jump in Queenstown! When you're in New Zealand, nearly ever adventure is only a stone's throw away. Make the most out of your visit to this remote island nation by assembling your bucket list with our travel guide. Booking a tour will ensure your trip is fun, flawless and stress-free: http://www.tourradar.com/d/new-zealand New Zealand boasts a temperate climate with plenty of sunshine and moderate rainfall. Because of the long coast line, you can expect mild temperatures for the most part. The average temperature decreases as you travel south; January and February are the warmest months with July being the coldest month of the year. Remember to pack your waterproof hiking boots, waterproof rain jacket, swimsuit, flip flops, thin gloves, hiking socks, sunglasses, and a camera with extra batteries. New Zealand's currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZ$). You should expect to be able to switch between cash and cards quite seamlessly, as all major credit cards can be used in New Zealand. Alcohol and restaurant meals can range from moderate to quite expensive so prepare yourself accordingly. We'd like to thank New Zealand's incredible tourism board for allowing use of their travel footage: http://www.newzealand.com/ ---About New Zealand--- New Zealand, exists on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean and is home to over 4.6 million people, and nearly 30 million sheep. The country is divided into two portions: the North and South Islands separated by the Cook Strait. The North Island is home to many hot springs and geysers while the South Island is mountainous, forested and covered in glaciers. Over 75% of New Zealanders call the North Island home, and more than 15% of New Zealand's energy comes from renewable resources. 🤟 Find your tour through New Zealand: https://www.tourradar.com/d/New-Zealand?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=New+Zealand:+The+Ultimate+Travel+Guide+by+TourRadar+5+5+ST1809-New+Zealand&utm_content=YT+Description ℹ️ Learn more about New Zealand: https://www.tourradar.com/travel-guide/New-Zealand?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=New+Zealand:+The+Ultimate+Travel+Guide+by+TourRadar+5+5+ST1809-New+Zealand&utm_content=YT+Description 🎬 Watch another video: "7 Things To Do in Sri Lanka": https://youtu.be/u3ZarK9wigk 📚 Visit us on Days to Come: "7 Unnatural, Natural Sights of New Zealand": https://www.tourradar.com/days-to-come/natural-sights-of-new-zealand/?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=New+Zealand:+The+Ultimate+Travel+Guide+by+TourRadar+5+5+ST1809-New+Zealand&utm_content=YT+Description ✌️ Subscribe for more travel tips & inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/user/tourradar?sub_confirmation=1 🌍 #gotouring with TourRadar: https://www.tourradar.com ----------------------------------------------- 👫 Let’s get social! How to buy plane ticket for a round-the-world trip

03:12
When I was planning my career break, buying air tickets was a big headache. I had wanted to travel around the world. But when I tried getting them through airlines that offered round-the-world air tickets, I was confused and stressed out by their terms and conditions. That included being able to only go in one direction, not going to a city twice and other complicated T&Cs. It was so confusing! Eventually, I got my round-the-world plane tickets through Airtreks. Salzburg Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

10:31
https://www.expedia.com/Salzburg.d180020.Destination-Travel-Guides The Austrian city of Salzburg is situated on the northern edge of the Alps, close to the border of Germany. Surrounded by lakes and mountains, and straddling the banks of the Salzach River, few cities can match Salzburg’s fairytale setting.   Few places can match its musical heritage either. Salzburg is the hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and provided the settings for one of cinema’s most-adored musicals, The Sound Of Music.    Take the funicular to Hohensalzburg, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval fortresses. Down below in the Old Town you’ll find Salzburg Cathedral and the Salzburg Museum. Nearby, wander along narrow Getreidegasse, one of the loveliest shopping streets in the world.   Just off the Old Market Square, savor 300 years of coffee-making tradition at Café Tomaselli. For classical Austrian fare served with a side of Opera, take the short walk to Stiftskeller St. Peter. At the Müllner Bräu Brewery, hang out with beer devotees from all over the world.  Salzburg has long been a city where inspiration knows no bounds, especially when it comes to its palaces. Just a short stroll from the Marionette Theater, the grandeur of Mirabell Palace and Gardens awaits. While on Salzburg’s southern outskirts, explore the playful water features at Hellbrunn Palace.   While Salzburg abounds with fountains, some of the city’s most impressive water features are its natural ones, such as Lake Wolfgang and Krimml Waterfall. For a waterfall with a difference, visit the spa town of Bad Gastein, whose falls roar straight through the heart of town. From the town, take the cable car to the summit of Stubnerkogel Mountain and walk Europe’s highest suspension bridge.   The Salzburg region is full of surprises, so before heading back to the city, head underground, into the Hallein Salt Mine. From its salt mines to its symphonies, from its fountains to its waterfalls, Salzburg plays out like a living opera, filled with drama, comedy, intrigue and passion.

But this former Spanish colony, which became the 27th state to enter the Union, is much more than that. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other, it has mile upon mile of white sand beaches. Its moderate climate makes it a popular tourist destination all year round. An overview of the best places to visit in Florida.

Madeira Island Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

09:29
https://www.expedia.com/Madeira-Island.d11326.Destination-Travel-Guides Pushed by volcanic forces from the sea floor into the warm trade winds of the North Atlantic, are the dramatic cliffs of Madeira. Volcanic activity may have settled millennia ago, but the island’s rich soils and spring climate means Madeira explodes in lush vegetation all year round. Madeira’s capital, Funchal, was named after the wild fennel which once carpeted its hillsides. Walk streets paved with patterned stonework that evokes the spirit of Portuguese culture and pride. Explore centuries-old churches and homes, which have endured pirate raids, German U-boat attacks, and earthquakes. From Funchal, head west to Cabo Girão, one of the world’s mightiest cliffs. You’ll find colossal views just a fifteen-minute drive east of Funchal too. At Garajau, watch divers far below enjoying the undersea gardens of the marine reserve. Madeira’s ring road strings together coastal towns and beaches, each one a little different from the last. If you’re looking for the island’s sunniest spot, head to Ponta do Sol. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, head to the old sugar town of Arco da Calheta and enjoy a honey cake. And if the rumbling sound of breakers is your idea of relaxation, spend a night or two at Paul do Mar. Madeira’s northern coastline offers plenty of drama and adventure too. Feel the power of the Atlantic in the natural swimming pools of Porto Moniz. If you’re keen on hiking the levadas into the mist-covered interior, the town of Seixal makes an ideal base. Less than an hour’s drive from Funchal is Pico do Arieiro, Madeira’s third highest peak. From here, experienced hikers can follow knife-edged trails to even higher peaks, the same peaks that guided Portuguese mariners to Madeira six centuries ago.

Marseille Vacation Travel Video Guide

25:36
Travel video about destination Marseille in France. Marseille is the most important city in Provence and is situated on the south coast of France. From a distance, one of Marseille's main landmarks rises high above the harbor, the seafarers' church of Notre-Dame de la Garde. With abundant internal furnishings, Byzantine arches, golden mosaics and numerous votives, it is a splendid structure inspired by Byzantine Romanic design. The most impressive religious building in Marseille is a fortified monastery church that dates back to the 5th century, the mighty Abbaye Saint-Victor. Deep down in the rock is an Early Christian crypt and a number of stone sarcophaguses that contain the remains of various holy martyrs that date back to the Roman persecution of the Christians. A boat trip from Cassis leads to one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Europe, Les Calanques, a unique nature reserve where shining white limestone cliffs plunge more than 400 metres into the deep blue sea and extend for 20 kilometres. Sur le pont D'avignon is a world famous French song that is familiar to both young and old alike. It is a song of dance on the bridge of the Pont Saint Bénézet but it is more likely that the people here once danced under the bridge, as that is the location of its bars! A place of radiant light and sweet aromas, with villages that nestle in the rocks like eagles' nests and with cities that have an historic past, Provence is indeed a captivating land full of fascinating contrasts. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Italian Food - AMAZING ROMAN FOOD and Attractions in Rome, Italy!

29:20
Join me on this incredible Italian food tour in Rome! ►Subscribe to my videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe ►Watch the full series playlist: https://goo.gl/179qoF ►Camera gear I use: https://goo.gl/68UlWd Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino. 00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day. 2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived. 3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular. 5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47). 10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended. 13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35) 14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person. 16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner! Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food! Manila Street Food, Travel Video Guide

08:45
I joined some local "pinays" and did some street food hawking around the Manila downtown area. I tried bbq chicken intestine, fondly called "isaw" straight up from the grill, fried chicken balls, and the much too popular "balut" or the boiled duck egg complete with its embryo, which according to these locals is a good source of protein and serves as aphrodisiac for men. Start your San Diego tour with a stop in Old Town, a historic park filled with buildings dating back to the 1820s. If you want something a little livelier, go a few miles south to check out the Gaslamp District, full of Victorian-era architecture and a thriving bar and club scene. Bringing the kids with you, or looking for a more sedate afternoon? Stop by the San Diego Zoo and spend some time with the many animals taking up residence there – including some of the few pandas outside of China. Explore San Diego’s ties to the sea by touring the U.S.S. Midway, Navy Pier, and Maritime Museum. From there, it’s just a skip across the bay to Coronado, where you can lay out in the sun and soak up some rays in a quiet beach town. Round out your day with a trip to “the jewel,” better known as La Jolla, and indulge in some of the best seafood and Mexican food you’ll find anywhere. Don’t forget to say “Hi” to the sea lions.
