How to write compelling sales proposals when bidding for public and private sector contracts. To win a large contract it's usually necessary to go through a formal tender process. However, there are times when you don't have to do that. If your prospective client likes the sound of the product or service you're offering and asks you to put it all in writing as he or she will need to discuss it with colleagues, you have the opportunity to prepare and submit a compelling sales proposal. You need to make it clear that you fully understand what the client is looking for, and state your understanding of their objectives. ideally verified with them at your initial meeting with them. You then write your proposal in a way that shows very clearly how you are going to meet those objectives. Set out the client's objectives on one page. In the proposal you then state the current position, including costs, followed by your proposed solution and the method by which you are going to take them from the current state to the bright new future you are going to create for them. Your proposal should contain both their current costs and the costs of your proposed solution, ideally showing savings. The savings may be in direct costs or perhaps reductions in manpower or administration. Your client will be impressed that you have taken the trouble to understand what they need and provide a solution for them. It is very important that you have that initial meeting, agree the objectives and also find out what is important to the decision maker. Ideally they should also agree for you to know their current costs: very often clients just don't know so you can offer to audit these for them, With this knowledge of the current situation and costs plus the client's objectives the chances of success for your proposal are far greater. By benchmarking the existing position you will be able to show a direct comparison between what they have now and what you are offering so there is no need for them to talk to anyone else. 7 Killer Sales Questions

As business owners, we love doing the things we're great at - you know, serving clients and such. Then sometimes, we have to throw on our 'salesman' hat and sell our stuff...which isn't always our strong suit. What you want: make the sale What you fear: being salesy, pushy, creepy, annoying, etc. So how do you eliminate the awkward part and get on with your money-making mojo? I'll show you... Here are 7 of my favorite questions that dig deep, uncover your prospect's real priorities, overcome objections, and get the sale. Minus the awkward. The first is a great question if the first question you’re getting right now is, “How much do you charge?” Often times it means that people don’t know what else to ask- they may not know what they don’t know. This first question you can ask will help put you back in the drivers’ seat of the sales conversation. “Sure, I can help you with that. Is it ok if I ask you a couple questions so I can give you the most accurate information?” Now you’ve taken control, and have an opportunity to ask them some really good questions, pull out some priorities other than price. There are always other buying considerations other than price and this gives you a chance to find out what those are for that prospect. It also gives you a chance to articulate your value, to say some things that set you apart so that once you do get to the price question they know all the other factors that are important to consider when making this buying decision. Here’s the second question: “Tell me more about that?” That’s a super simple one and a good fall-back question. Always keep it in your back pocket if you’re at a loss of what to say next. Ask them to expand on that, and they will. You can take a deeper cut, and sometimes find out what their real fears, concerns, and frustrations are. Here’s the next question: “So how do you want ___ to be different by [time frame]?” The first blank is for the main benefit you offer, and the second is for the time frame is reasonable to expect a result for what you offer. So if you sell marketing services, you can say, “So how do you want your lead flow to be different 12 months from now?” Now you can find out what’s really important to the client and shift from selling on price or features you offer to selling on the benefit that they’re after. Here’s the next question: “Suppose we were having this conversation x months from now, looking back, what would have to have happened for you to feel really happy with ___?” This one is similar to the last, but takes it from a different angle. The first blank is the time frame and the second is the benefit of what you offer. If I were asking this, I would say something like, “Let’s say we’re sitting together 12 months from now, what would have to have happened in your business in order for you to feel really happy with your progress?” So it gets them to tell you what their priorities are. Here’s the next question: “What factors other than price are important for you to consider when making this decision?” This is a great question to overcome the price objection, as obviously price is a consideration, but it’s not the only one. So if you’re getting the price objection further on in the sales conversation, this one is a great one to ask. Here’s the sixth question: “How does that fit with what you had in mind?” This is one to ask when you’re moving toward the closing and it’s about time for the prospect to make a decision, or you’ve just presented your price, proposal, or solution you offer. It’s super soft – not pushy, not salesy, and gives the prospect time to think and bring up any objections or areas of concerns that you haven’t addressed yet before you go in for the sale. It’s a very comfortable closing question. The last question is along the same lines when it comes to closing. “So what do you think we should do from here?” Another very simple, low-pressure question that allows the prospect to tell you exactly what they want to happen next, or allows you to overcome any objections before offering the solution. The key thing to remember is that you have to focus on benefits to your target audience and not only on the features of the product. For example, if it’s shampoo that doesn’t make you cry, then that is a feature. The benefit is that if you’re a parent, it will be much more comfortable for your child if the shampoo doesn’t sting his or her eyes. (Of course, that no tears shampoo is actually pretty nasty so it’s best to avoid it, but anyway.) First one element of Value propositions is a target and definition of the target by segmenting the target into more specific focused people. • Based on their attitudes • Based on their beliefs • Based on their behavior • Based on their location, gender, age, We can start to narrow down who it is we're talking about and that's the essential first step of creating a value proposition and if we're in business-to-business there may be multiple people in that value chain that we need to consider the next part of any good concept. Value proposition is a definition of what problem we intend to solve which we are going to call the insight and the insight relates directly to the target it will be the target biggest unmet need and they will have many problems of unmet needs but we are focused on the one that is most significant to them because in solving that escalates the value of our proposition Next thing our third element is to understand what alternatives already exist in the market for the customer to resolve that problem who directly or indirectly already delivers against that problem and why they fail to adequately solve it because of course if the alternatives are solving the problem perfectly well already then the size of the opportunity is limited for us. Fourth aspect of our value proposition will then be our promise what we call the Benefit. We don't really get to control the benefit. The benefit is a function of the insight if the customer says to us do you know what my biggest problem is this is my biggest problem then the benefit we offer can't be anything else. It has to be a commitment to solve that problem nothing else. We can't have multiple benefits we need only have to one benefit to solve the big unmet need of the customer but of course the customer will then say well hang on a minute I don't believe that you can promise that I don't believe you can make my biggest problem go away give me a reason to believe. That you can so the fifth element of a good value proposition is what we call the reason to believe the proof that we can make the benefit come to life and deliver the promise to solve the insight despite the fact all those alternatives have failed to do so in the past Then ultimately most good value propositions end on a point of superiority some people call it a discriminator a differentiator a USP a unique selling point ultimately what we want to be able to say is in this value proposition that we're offering you. we can deliver the benefit to a high degree of uniqueness and superiority over everything else that exists in the market These all contain those six core elements and when they're presented to the customer in the form of a written concept they make the story believable and compelling and over many years that format has been proven to test well. The proposal should generally be built around the three P’s Problem, Problem Solution, and of course Price. The basic form of the proposal should be to state your purpose: what you offer in a few short paragraphs. See simplified example below: RE: Proposal for XYZ Corp. Delivery of XXX product. ABC Company will deliver by Speedy Delivery Service 30 cases of XXX product directly from our main warehouse facility to XYZ corp. every month on the 1st of the month at XYZ Corporations XXX Plant Any City, USA. Writing a proposal can be a very costly endeavor so a 'fish or cut bait' attitude can save you a lot of needlessly wasted time, energy, and expense. Can you work within their terms, parameters, time tables etc? It would be a shame to either get the contract and not be able to fulfill it, or not get the contract due to a lack in the presentation/proposal, because of poor research. When considering a RFP for example you really must do your homework and if you do respond be sure to respond in a format for your proposal that has a history of being accepted by the entity soliciting the RFP. Before you start to write your proposal take the time to really think about the prospect and mentally 'walk a mile' in the prospects shoes as it were. Consider their problem, your solution, and can you deliver at the right price? It should not be what is in it for you when you are drafting the proposal it should be 100% about what’s in it for the prospect. Make sure before you start to draft this proposal that you know and are prepared to include exactly what will satisfy the prospect with the perfect bait. Let the prospect know that you are completely at their disposal to deliver their solution, in the manner that only you and your company can. Should you be delivering your proposal in person stay relaxed, focus only on serving your prospect; do not lose your focus dealing with a cell phone, laptop or anything else. Stay calm and cool when you present your proposal having the confidence that you are the perfect match for your prospect. I call it “Micro-Influencer Marketing” What you’re going to do is contact smaller influencers with 5k-10k followers and offer them a commission for each product they sell through their custom link in exchange for sharing it on their profile. Why does this convert so well? Keep in mind that people in this range probably aren’t making much from their pages and some aren’t even in the game to make money at all. The Business Model Canvas is comprised of 9 key segments: The left hand section of the Business Model Canvas is the Infrastructure section and comprises three key areas: Key Activities: The most important activities in executing a company's value proposition. Key Resources: The resources that are necessary to create value for the customer. Partner Network: In order to optimize operations and reduce risks of a business model, organization usually cultivate buyer-supplier relationships so they can focus on their core activity. The middle section of the canvas describes the business offering and is the value proposition delivered to different customer segments. Value Propositions: The collection of products and services a business offers to meet the needs of its customers. According to Osterwalder, (2004), a company's value proposition is what distinguishes itself from its competitors. The value proposition provides value through various elements such as newness, performance, customization, "getting the job done", design, brand/status, price, cost reduction, risk reduction, accessibility, and convenience/usability. The value propositions may be: Quantitative – price and efficiency Qualitative – overall customer experience and outcome The right hand side of the Business Model Canvas describes the customers, the channels through which you deliver services and and the relationships you have with your customers. Customer Segments: To build an effective business model, a company must identify which customers it tries to serve. Various sets of customers can be segmented based on the different needs and attributes to ensure appropriate implementation of corporate strategy meets the characteristics of selected group of clients. Channels: A company can deliver its value proposition to its targeted customers through different channels. Effective channels will distribute a company’s value proposition in ways that are fast, efficient and cost effective. An organization can reach its clients either through its own channels (store front), partner channels (major distributors), or a combination of both. Customer Relationships: To ensure the survival and success of any businesses, companies must identify the type of relationship they want to create with their customer segments. The bottom section of the canvas describes the finances. Cost Structure: This describes the most important monetary consequences while operating under different business models. A company's DOC. Now you need cash and lots of it and you probably need to borrow some money. How much do you need? The best way is to draw up a solid business plan. A business plan is a multi-page document that should explain to an investor or stranger who has no prior knowledge of your product or business exactly what your product or service is, how and where you are going to make it, how you’re going to sell it, your assessment of the competition and why yours is better, and how much money you are going to need to start it and run it in the near and long term. How Do I Set My Consulting Rates?

http://www.ConsultingIncome.com/ Oh boy, consulting rates! this is a difficult situation. You have got an interested client, you know the business is yours, but how much do you charge? Too much and they walk away and too little and you're leaving money behind on the table! Really, you shouldn't be in this situation, it demonstrates a lack of understanding of the client. I tend to do value based pricing. During my discussions with the client, I try and gauge what the financial value is to the client of the consulting assignment. Then I try and set my fees so that the client gets at least 100X return on their investment. In some cases, I have been in competitive tenders where my fees have been twice the nearest competitor and yet I have still won. It comes down to understanding the value proposition for the client. However, another important aspect is their budget. In some cases, it doesn't matter how valuable the contract might be, if they don't have the money in their budget, they can't afford you. In these cases, I have a price structure where they pay so much upfront and then a larger fee later when they receive their return from your endeavours. I have found that this works well when I am advising the client on how to raise finance. I only get the large downstream payment when they are successful and they raise their money. If you really don't know what their budget is before sending your proposal, then a very useful trick is to let them choose their price by offering them a menu of charges. For instance, in your proposal you could offer: 1. The base price is $10,000 for which you get A, B, C and D 2. Or, we can offer you E, F and G for an additional $5,000 for these further benefits 3. Alternatively, we can also offer you H, Y and J for a further $5,000 on top where you will get these amazing benefits too In these cases, it is surprising how often the client goes for all 3 options because it happens to be in their budget. However, if their budget is constrained then they will just request option 1 or 1 and 2. Also, you must remember to clearly articulate the benefits for each option. Finally, don't be tempted to low ball your consulting bid because you happen to be desperate. There's nothing more miserable than working your socks off in a low fee paying contract. Instead, make sure that you have a marketing system in place that provides a reliable stream of new business opportunities on top. That way you'll maintain the conviction to hold out for top fees. The CFPB has released an outline of a possible rule limiting arbitration clauses in consumer financial product and service agreements and is currently working on a proposed rule for public comment. The outline indicates that the proposed rule would eliminate arbitration agreements that limit consumer participation in class actions and require the submission to the CFPB (and, potentially, public posting) of arbitral claims and awards. The proposal would affect entities covered by the Consumer Financial Protection Act, including providers of consumer financial products and services offering credit cards, checking and deposit accounts, prepaid cards, money transfer services, certain auto loans, short-term, small dollar loans, and private student loans. The CFPB may expand the rule to include additional consumer financial products and services, such as payment processing. Mulago hospital to stop offering free medical services

The management of the Mulago Referal Hospital has drafted a proposal to government to have patients pay for all the services when the government facility fully reopens its doors to the public later this year at the completion of its revamp and expansion. The hospital's executive director Dr. Baterana Byarugaba told the parliamentary health committee that patients will pay in three categories determined by the services offered. Dr. Byaruhangda also explained that the money will be used to help provide quality services and pay the health workers competitive salaries and allowances. The proposals from Mulago hospital have aroused interest in parliament with most MPs supporting despite some expressing reservations about how they will be implemented. Highlights of Dezeen's talk on climate change for Good Design for a Bad World

The products that designers help create are the biggest contributors to climate change, according to research presented at our Good Design for a Bad World talks at Dutch Design Week last month. The claim came from designer Babette Porcelijn, who has published a book that explores the factors driving climate change and offering potential solutions to the problem. "I made an impact top ten," said Porcelijn, presenting a graph of the ten biggest causes of climate change. "Number one is products. It's stuff. I'm an industrial designer so I was really educated to make these things. But it has the number one impact." Electronic products such as mobile phones and computers are among the biggest contributors, she said, adding that her list contains more surprises, with animal farming coming second. "Number two is meat," she said. "Then comes houses, then comes the car." The findings are contained in her book, De Verborgen Impact (Hidden Impact), which explores the hidden impact of human activities on earth's climate, which most people are unaware of.
