Under the Sea Workshop - Sea of Textures and Magical Mermaid Projects
In this short video, I share the projects my students created during our Under the Sea workshop. My friend Tina, who is also a fellow scuba diver, selected this theme. Workshop participants used a variety of Stampin' Up! products for creating these cards, tags and bookmarks. Stamp sets included: Sea of Textures, Magical Mermaid, Truly Tailored and Beautiful Day. Students used a variety of coordinating ribbons and the Tranquil Textures designer series paper. Participants were showed examples and then varied their designs so that each project was unique. I'm very proud of their work and wanted to share it with others for inspiration.

World's 10 Greatest Underwater Projects
Here are 10 of the greatest underwater projects. Some have had a better time of realizing their dreams than others, but visionaries of all sorts have dreamed up a bevy of interesting adventures under the sea. Here are 10 of the greatest underwater projects. Number 10. Mission 31. To mark the 50th anniversary of his grandfather Jacques' epic sea mission, Fabien Cousteau will be living in a submerged research facility for 31 days. While he's there, Fabien and his team will be investigating a number of oceanic wonders. Number 9. SeaOrbiter. At 190 feet tall, over half of the futuristic looking ship will be submerged and on a constant lookout for new species, lost cities, and mythical creatures. Construction on the ship is scheduled to begin late in 2014. Number 8. Sub-Biosphere 2. If everything goes as planned, designer Phillip Pauley will one day open this underwater community and seed bank, which is large enough to accommodate 100 people. Incidentally, that's the number of humans it would take to repopulate the Earth should something happen that wipes just about everybody out. Number 7 - Researchers from the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology have built a giant robot called the Crabster. Designed after the appearance of a crab, the 14 hundred pound robot that is about the size of a Smartcar, will be used to investigate the sunken wreckage of ships on the ocean floor. Number 6. H2OME. If you're tired of living above sea level, check out this builder. For about 10 million dollars, depending upon amenities and such, they can whip up a sea floor abode. The homes are built at surface pressure, so no tricky decompression is needed. Number 5. Sea-TY. Well, this is one way to be sea-level rise: build a city that can exist submerged in water. Sunlight is funneled in through a massive atrium built into a large, floating bowl. The buildings themselves are built at varying levels and are made accessible to one another via stairs. Number 4. Water-Discus Underwater Hotel. It's been named such for its design which is comprised of two inhabitable discs. One is located above water while the other sits beneath the surface, giving guests the option to enjoy warm breezes or watch vivid sea life swim by as they please. Number 3. Water-Scraper. Skyscrapers require a lot of natural resources to stay inhabitable and functioning. Not the Water-Scraper. It provides all of the multi-use and residential space as it's land-loving counterpart, but can power itself via the wind, waves, and sun. Number 2. Lady Landfill Skyscraper. Designed to resemble the Eiffel Tower flipped upside down, Lady Landfill is much more than a showy engineering feat. While its upper portion sustains the daily lives of its inhabitants, its submerged point collects plastic waste for later use as fuel. Number 1. Atlantica Expedition. Dennis Chamberland, the mind behind this concept, has already built a 2-person underwater habitat, but his total vision stretches so much further. He wants to build a whole city, which he describes as functioning sort of like the Jetsons' hometown, but on the ocean floor.

Future Under Water Projects
Floating cities may seem like utopian sci-fi, but autonomous ocean settlements could become reality as early as 2020, says The Seasteading Institute. The forward-thinking organization recently launched the Floating City Project—an architectural design contest that seeks innovative designs for sustainable floating cities. Seasteaders posit that these aquatic communities could be the solutions to many societal issues, such as overpopulation and threats of rising sea levels. In honor of this new ocean frontier and the ambitious design contest, we’ve rounded up seven incredible eco-friendly floating city designs that we could call home someday soon . Future Megaprojects - Tunnel | Russia and Alaska (Extreme Engineering) Documentary
Bering Strait Tunnel The Bering Strait Tunnel would connect Russia and Alaska creating a high-speed rail line freight route and a crucial oil pipeline. Twice as long as the channel tunnel it would be the most ambitious and expensive tunneling project ever attempted. To build it massive Tunnel Boring Machines would start on both sides of the strait - 64 miles apart - and meet in the middle. All this would have to be built in some of the most difficult conditions anywhere on the planet: permafrost regions mountains and summer swamps and an entire region known for frequent large magnitude earthquakes that put everything and everyone at constant risk. With the world getting better and better every second the quest for perfection is at its limit and beyond. The quest of perfection is getting insatiable and there are some insanely big and ambitious projects underway. Here are the mega projects which promise to further enhance the world we currently live in. With the growth and expansion of the world’s economies there are plenty of large-scale investment projects that are under development currently. Most of these megaprojects of the future consisting of roads bridges skyscrapers airports and tunnels involve massive investment and use of superior technology. The cost of these large projects can run into billions of dollars and the greatest challenge for developing some of these spectacular projects can be to acquire adequate funding. These new methods of transport and infrastructure around different cities have opened up new possibilities for trade and commerce and paved the way for globalization. Let’s take a look at some of the megaprojects of the future here.

Building Sea City (Engineering Documentary) | Spark
This stylish, lavishly photographed HD documentary follows the team on the ground in Kuwait as they race to beat critical deadlines while the temperature rises to the extremes of mid-summer. There are bridges to finish, water gates to be built and installed, millions of cubic metres of dynamic compaction to be done – literally smashing the ground flat enough to bear the weight of buildings on it – and mangrove plants to nurture at the absolute northern limit of their possible cultivation. All this before new lagoons can be flooded in late 2009, and while the first families are already moving into their new homes alongside the first flooded lagoons. First Broadcast in 2005. The 20-Year-Old With a Plan to Rid the Sea of Plastic
Subscribe to MOTHERBOARD: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-To-MOTHERBOARD Boyan Slat's story is not quite that of a 20-year-old Wunderkind who magically found a potential fix to a longstanding problem. It's perhaps more accurately described as a combination of personal dedication and trial and error. When going through his old prototypes for a technology that would passively scrub oceans of plastic, he's almost embarrassed of his early concepts. "But that's what science is really," Slat said. "It's a work in progress." The crowdfunding campaign behind Slat's Ocean Cleanup Project was announced with strong bidding, no matter: "With two million dollars we can make a theoretical concept come true." With just two days left in his campaign, Slat successfully collected the funding for his project, bringing him one step closer to realizing a vision of plastic-free oceans. Holland's Barriers to The Sea
The Delta Works in the Netherlands (Holland) is the largest flood protection project in the world. This project consists of a number of surge barriers, for examples: 1- The Oosterscheldekering is the largest of the 13 ambitious Delta Works series of dams and storm surge barriers and it is the largest surge barrier in the world, 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) long. The dam is based on 65 concrete pillars with 62 steel doors, each 42 metres wide. It is designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. 2- The Maeslantkering is a storm barrier with two movable arms; when the arms are open the waterway remains an important shipping route however when the arms close a protective storm barrier is formed for the city of Rotterdam. Closing the arms of the barrier is a completely automated process done without human intervention. (Futuristic) Fujairah-Mumbai Subsea Tunnel Train Project مشروع قطار الفجيرة -بومباي السريع - مستقبلي
The project is meant to connect the UAE and the other GCC countries for the first time with India via a subsea Tunnel and an Ultra Speed subsea railway line ; with the aim of improving the Bilateral Trade between the two nations. The Fujairah-Mumbai Tunnel & Subsea Ultra Speed Train Line Project is currently at the Concept stage. The Main Expected benefits from Project are : 1. Ttransport Passengers , Tourists & workers Between the UAE ( as well as other GCC Countries ) and India. 2. Export Oil & Gas From Fujairah Port To India via a Pipeline ; and possibly China and Pakistan. 3. Import water from Narmada River North of Mumbai to the UAE ( it is well noted that The Narmada River is flooding during monsoon season ; excess water May be exported to the UAE ) 4. Transport Goods & commodities between both nations. 5. Supply Bunker Fuel to ships passing between the Floating Pontoons via a floating bunker fuel station. Future Expansion may include the One Belt One Road Initiative , Linking China–Pakistan Economic Corridor at Gwadar Port with the UAE ( and other Gulf Cooperation Countries ) via Fujairah Port to complement the Chinese silk road ; Future Train stations may also include the port city of Karachi in Pakistan & Muscat the capital city of Oman. Future plan also may include making a provision for road to be constructed within the floating tunnel for cars and truck transportation ; as well as Floating Hotel and shopping centres and Fuel stations in the middle of the Arabian Sea were commuters can rest and shop. The speed of train can be set to be on the range of 600-1000 km/h , the 1826km distance between Mumbai to Fujairah station can be covered within 2-4hrs ; while Gawader port in Pakistan to Fujairah can be covered within 1 Hr. The Concept of the Tunnel is based on well-known technology applied to floating bridges and offshore structures & immersed tunnels. The floating underwater tunnel May consist of two curved concrete tubes, submerged below the surface of the Arabian Sea ; The submerged tubes would be stabilize by being attached to pontoons on the surface of the sea or vertical tethers to the sea floor. Provision can be made for Enough gaps between the pontoons to allow ships to pass through; The tubes would be placed underwater, deep enough to avoid water traffic and weather; The tunnel would be a water tight and resisting the salty sea water , it should be withstand against hydrostatic forces coming on it. Creating a vacuum inside the tunnel will results in Tremendous speed for trains as it will result in minimal air resistance. Craziest Modern Chinese Construction Projects
From bridges spanning over 20 miles to reconstructing the silk road, here are craziest modern Chinese construction projects., Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 4. Su-Tong Yangtze River Bridge Another impressive bridge built by the Chinese, you can an idea of how simply massive it is by taking a look on google maps the distance this suspension bridge spans. Built over the powerful yangtze river, this is now the world second longest cable-stayed bridge, stretching 26,923 feet long. It’s located between the cities of Nantong and Changsu, not far from Shanghai. It helps carry a 4 lane highway from the Beijing Taipei Expressway. Before the completion of this impressive project, there have been 2 other bridges to cross the Yangze which is China’s longest river. Towers of the bridge reach over 1000 feet and it’s the 3rd tallest in that category. Without the bridge, it would be about a 4 hour ferry ride from Shanghai to Nantong making it a very important crossing point. 3. Shanghai Financial Center You better believe that the largest city in China with a population of 24 million, is going to have some pretty cool new modern structures. When buildings are normally covered up in clouds, you know they are getting pretty tall. This is the 9th tallest building in the world scraping the skies at 1,614 feet tall. What’s also impressive about this is that most of it is a complete building, with rooms from the bottom to the top. Construction on this, took 10 years and was officially open in 2008. You gotta wonder if they’re trying to see what americans are up to from all the way up there. 2. Beijing shanghai HIgh Speed Railway Now officially the world's longest high speed railway, this one is going to come with a hefty price tag of 35 billion dollars! This will revolutionize travel in china and connect the 2 most important cities of the country with a 4.5 hour travel time, reaching speeds of 209 miles an hour. Considering the fact that it’s an 819 mile distance between to two cities, this saves an unbelievable amount of time. You have to wonder why US hasn’t completed more high speed trains like this in an effort to reduce fossil fuel emissions. Not only is this one of the largest high speed railways, construction times where quite remarkable, being finished in only 2 and a half years. Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site Somewhat hidden from google maps on the island of Hainan is one of China’s most impressive engineering feats known as the Wenchang Launch Center. China is beating us guys and it’s getting pretty scary. It’s geographic location allows for it to launch various spacecraft and keep them in orbit for longer periods of time and more capable of launching heavy payloads. The first launch took place in 2016 to carry robotic cargo to one of China’s new space stations. Many crazy experiments are taking place and you have to wonder how advanced China’s space program will get in the years to come.

Underground Beach Hut Build

14 Mysterious and Secretive Soviet Projects
From secretive secretive cities you're not allowed to go to, nuclear powered aircraft, here are 14 mysterious and secretive soviet projects Subscribe to American EYE! 4. Vozrozhdeniya Island (voz-roz-den-ay) This island is located on what was the Aral sea before it disappeared mysteriously. It was here where the Soviet Union constructed a top secret biological weapons testing facility called Aralsk-7. Explore this place on google maps and you’ll find some eery ghost towns and abandoned places. This began the main laboratory where crews tested multiple effects of fatal diseases and how to spread them effectively. They worked with horrific agents including, anthrax, smallpox, the black plague, and more. In 1971, weaponized smallpox was accidently released,3 people and infecting 10. Oops. Due to the shrinking of the Aral sea, the island is more of a peninsula. Many claim there are still large stockpiles of anthrax buried here after the facility closed in 1990 and after 911 an effort was made to find it. Anthrax spores can survive underground for decades, so if you come here, bring some hand sanitizer and a hazmat suit! 3. Tu-95LAL Nuclear Aircraft During the cold war, numerous aircraft were experimented with. With this being the cold war, nuclear power it seemed perfectly reasonable to see if nuclear power could be used to fuel an aircraft. We do have submarines that use nuclear power and even aircraft carriers, so why not a plane? Both the US and Soviets considered the possibility. The soviets built a prototype that was known as the TU-95LAL. The nuclear reactor was placed in the fuselage where there was a small bulge that you can see in this photo. It conducted over 40 test flights but with the nuclear reactor turned off a majority of the time. Many believe the project was abandoned because they couldn’t find a proper way to shield the radioactivity of the reactor and they realized a crash might could result in a nuclear explosion on a valuable runway. 2. The Battle Mole Imagine a vehicle that could travel through water, on land and go underground by mechanically drilling its way to it’s next target! Sounds pretty insane right? The soviets had an interesting idea with this one. Also known as the Subterrene, this experiment vehicle could successfully move underground at a speed of about 3 miles an hour. The goal of it would be to travel underground, detonate explosives under enemy military installations, which would then cause an earthquake and destroy a bunch of things up above. It also ran on Nuclear power and the first test proved to be successful, destroying an test target bunker covering a range of 6 miles. Everyone was quite amazed and they thought they came up with some kind of secret super device. They were wrong, during the 2nd test, the whole thing blew up and it was never tested again 1. Tsar Bomba The largest nuclear bomb ever dropped was tested by the Russians in 1961 in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. The bomb was extremely large in size as well, weigh 27 metric tons and measuring in a 8 meters long by 2 meters in diameter. A bomb this large isn’t really too useful considering the best method to destroy would be to use many bombs scattered across a large range.. The largest nuclear device tested by Americas was equivalent to 15 megatons of TNT while this bomb dropped in Russia yielded 57 megatons. The blast was so powerful that it almost killed the pilot who was flying the plane. It’s been described as the single most physically powerful device ever used by mankind and the mushroom cloud you see in this photo is rather shocking to say the least.

India's Future Projects (2018- 2100)- India The Future Most Powerful Country In The World
India Future Projects 2018 2030- The Future Most Powerful Country In The World. India, also known as the Republic of India is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country (with over 1.2 billion people), and the most populous democracy in the world. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast. It shares land borders with Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the northeast; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. The economy expanded in the 17th century in the Mughal Empire. In the mid-18th century, the subcontinent came under British East India Company rule, and in the mid-19th under British crown rule. A nationalist movement emerged in the late 19th century, which later, under Mahatma Gandhi, was noted for nonviolent resistance and led to India's independence in 1947. In 2017, the Indian economy was the world's sixth largest by nominal GDP[20] and third largest by purchasing power parity.[16] Following market-based economic reforms in 1991, India became one of the fastest-growing major economies and is considered a newly industrialised country. However, it continues to face the challenges of poverty, corruption, malnutrition, and inadequate public healthcare. A nuclear weapons state and regional power, it has the second largest standing army in the world and ranks fifth in military expenditure among nations. India is a federal republic governed under a parliamentary system and consists of 29 states and 7 union territories. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Indian economy in 2017 was nominally worth US$2.611 trillion; it is the sixth-largest economy by market exchange rates, and is, at US$9.459 trillion, the third-largest by purchasing power parity, or PPP. With its average annual GDP growth rate of 5.8% over the past two decades, and reaching 6.1% during 2011–12. India is one of the world's fastest-growing economies. However, the country ranks 140th in the world in nominal GDP per capita and 129th in GDP per capita at PPP. India has a loto of challenges to solve before it become a real superpower. With the emergence of the middle class, India will need serious infrastrucutures. So the governement and private developers are building some mega projects that will not only accomodate 1.3 Billion people, but that will also change India's face forever. The dream to see India as a superpower is becoming a reality. One day, India will be the most opwerful and advaned economy in the world. It will even surpass China. Here are India's future mega projects that will change its face. 1- Skyscrapers- Mumbai will have new skyscrapers that will modernize the city skyline. Mumbai will have a skyline like Shanghai, Singapore, New York or Toronto. 2- Infrastructures Mega Projects. Many new infrastructures projects will simplify the lives of Indians. New highways, new airports and more will be built to accommodate its big population and to facilitate business too. better infrastructures will greatly improve business and facilitate the speed of trades. It will result in a better productivity. 3- Transport mega project : a new high speed rail line is under construction for 2023. A new hyperloop line is also under developement for 2026. It could be the first hyperloop in Asia. 4- Smart cities mega projects: 100 new smart cities are under construction or under development in the country. 5- Become a developed country and a new superpower. India is still a developing country in different point, but could become a developed country very soon. It could reach this status in the next 20 years. After,India could become the most advanced country in the world and could overtake China by 2050. India in 2050 will be stunning, powerful,,developed and beautiful. Finally poor countries could catch up their lateness by developing themselves finally. Thanks for watching this video ! Please like and share the video with your friend! COA Senior Projects: Describing the Sea
Learn more: http://coa.edu/ College of the Atlantic student Matthew Messina '16 describes how his passion for natural history led to the creation of an illustrated, 70-page field guide to the flora and fauna of the Gulf of Maine. As an undergraduate at COA, Messina designed an education involving hours in museum collections, time in the taxidermy lab, working as a deckhand and whale watch guide on MV Osprey, COA's research boat, piloting rigid-hull inflatable boats, and illustration. Every College of the Atlantic student designs and completes a senior project before graduation. The project is a significant piece of work and a capstone experience in our human ecology curriculum, offering students the opportunity to synthesize past learning and push themselves deeper and in new directions. COA students choose an incredible array of topics and formats for their senior projects.

Trapped Under the Sea by Neil Swidey Book Trailer
On-sale January 2014, "Trapped Under the Sea" by Neil Swidey recounts the harrowing story of five men who were sent into a dark, airless, miles-long tunnel, hundreds of feet below the ocean, to do a nearly impossible job—with deadly results. Learn more at www.NeilSwidey.com. "Extraordinary... It bears comparison with 'The Perfect Storm' in its brilliant evocation of everyday, working class men thrust into a harrowing, at times heroic confrontation with death and disaster." —Dennis Lehane, author of "Live By Night" and "Shutter Island" A quarter-century ago, Boston had the dirtiest harbor in America. The city had been dumping sewage into it for generations, coating the seafloor with a layer of "black mayonnaise." Fisheries collapsed, wildlife fled, and locals referred to floating tampon applicators as "beach whistles." In the 1990s, work began on a state-of-the-art treatment plant and a 10-mile-long tunnel—its endpoint stretching farther from civilization than the earth's deepest ocean trench—to carry waste out of the harbor. With this impressive feat of engineering, Boston was poised to show the country how to rebound from environmental ruin. But when bad decisions and clashing corporations endangered the project, a team of commercial divers was sent on a perilous mission to rescue the stymied cleanup effort. Five divers went in; not all of them came out alive. Drawing on hundreds of interviews and thousands of documents collected over five years of reporting, award-winning writer Neil Swidey takes us deep into the lives of the divers, engineers, politicians, lawyers, and investigators involved in the tragedy and its aftermath, creating a taut, action-packed narrative. The climax comes just after the hard-partying DJ Gillis and his friend Billy Juse trade assignments as they head into the tunnel, sentencing one of them to death. An intimate portrait of the wreckage left in the wake of lives lost, the book is also a morality tale. What is the true cost of these large-scale construction projects, as designers and builders, emboldened by new technology and pressured to address a growing population's rapacious needs, push the limits of the possible? This is a story about human risk—how it is calculated, discounted, and transferred—and the institutional failures that can lead to catastrophe. Suspenseful yet humane, Trapped Under the Sea reminds us that behind every bridge, tower, and tunnel—behind the infrastructure that makes modern life possible—lies unsung bravery and extraordinary sacrifice.
