Well, it takes a lot of time and significant energy to build and optimize a distribution channel. And we have to consider several factors that will influence our decision. The best distribution channel is the one that: Delivers a product that customers want. Delivers a product where customers want it. And allows customers to have the product at the right time. A product must be positioned where its target customers are likely to find it. A great-looking store, with prepared sales personnel, and optimal product placing can have a huge impact on sales. Great distribution channels deliver products at the right time. Nobody likes it when an item is out of stock or when there is a long waiting period for its delivery. Companies want to be efficient with the inventory they keep as it represents a cost. An optimized logistics flow can be beneficial for both customers and producers.

How do I grow my business with retail distribution compliance?
You want to keep growing your business. To that, you need to get your products in all the right places. Should be easy, right? But in today's world, your customers are big. They're complex. And they want you to do it their way. And they all have different requirements ... their EDI document, their labels, their carriers, their packslips, their pallet configurations... their way. And they're watching you, and you're being scored. If you deliver it wrong, well... chargebacks can be painful. Your road to success is cluttered with obstacles. What you need is an easy solution that helps you grow your business... ...by being more efficient... ...by meeting retail compliance requirements without manual work-arounds, ...by shortening the time from when the retailer placed to order to when you're paid for it... and by avoiding chargebacks. You need Accellos. Accellos is the only fully integrated distribution compliance solution. It eliminates the errors, workarounds and high costs of manually coordinating EDI, warehouse operations, compliance documents and shipping. The Accellos system gives your midsized business the same powerful compliance capabilities that the big companies enjoy. Your path to compliance begins with fully integrated EDI. With Accellos, you can electronically receive orders from all kinds of customers, acknowledge those orders and integrate them directly into your business system. We've built requirements for all major retailers right into our system, so you can start fulfilling orders with new trading partners quickly and confidently. Order fulfillment is at the heart our system, and every critical step is managed in the Accellos warehouse management system. Unlike other compliance solutions that only print labels and documents, the Accellos system optimizes the workflow across order selection, label application, packing and shipping. But retail distribution compliance doesn't stop when the product leaves your facility. You need to provide an advanced shipping notice -- and that can be one of the most challenging requirements for any business. You need to know exactly what's in each shipping container and on each pallet. We've integrated Advanced Shipping Notices into our warehouse management system and EDI, simplifying the whole process. You'll know the exact contents of the pallet at every step, and the information is automatically transformed into an EDI 856 document for the retailer. Need to drop ship? We've got you covered. The Accellos solution supports all documents for fulfilling drop ship e-commerce orders. You can also handle invoicing and remittance electronically, so you can do business with more retailers and shorten your cash-to-cash cycle. Finally, the Accellos compliance solution helps you keep track of your performance and catch problems before they're seen by the customer. More than 3,000 small and midsized companies across the globe count on Accellos for their supply chain technology. You can get your distribution process running seamlessly too. You'll get more products to more retailers and into the hands of more customers. And that's a smart way to grow your business. To find out more, call Accellos to speak to one of our knowledgeable consultants. 877-805-8388 www.accellos.com

Video #24 Tourism Distribution (12 narrated slides, 9:18)
URL: https://youtu.be/AzdudvBftm0 S-01: Welcome to video #24 in my series of presentations that attempt to “demystify tourism”. I’m Dr. Stan McGahey, the creator and narrator. The content is based on my experiences worldwide in more than 80 countries on 6 continents. S-02: Because tourists make advanced reservations, and prepay for many of the major products they consume during their travels, they utilize various components of tourism’s distribution system. Tourism products are scattered worldwide in businesses, both large and small, using many systems, languages, and currencies. Tourism’s distribution system ranges from direct sales at ticket counters and branch offices, to intermediaries and middlemen located online or in major cities, destinations, and gateways. S-03: Tourism’s distribution channel has 3 levels. The simplest is level-1. Tourists buys products directly from suppliers. Levels 2 and 3 are indirect. Level-2 distribution is going through a travel agency, either online or in an office. Level-3 is using a travel agency and a tour operator or event planner. S-04: A typical retail travel agency represents companies in all 4 operating sectors. Tourists purchase many products online, but agencies add value via knowledge and experience, access to discounts, and ability to bundle products into money-saving packages. They also have the power to help solve problems or seek reimbursement. S-05: Travel agencies vary per ownership, market, and focus. They can be individually-owned, part of a chain or franchise, or an independent member of a consortium. They can be a brick and mortar office, online, or home-based. They can serve all travelers, or specialize, such as a cruise-only. Most agencies serve both pleasure and business travelers. Some specialize in corporate travel. Agency staff are called travel agents, consultants, or counselors. S-06: Tour operators are also known as tour companies, packagers, and wholesalers. They plan itineraries and arrange its components. Some specialize in a destination, such as Hawaii, or a special interest, such as pilgrimages, and incentive houses specialize in motivational travel. Most offer itineraries to various destinations with sights and activities of interest. S-07: Some tour operators are departments of airlines or travel agencies, but most are independent businesses. As tourists gain more experience, tour operators evolve to serve their needs. Some people want to travel on their own but want a package tour with basic components, such as flights and lodging. Others want a customized tour with a specific itinerary on specific dates they will do on their own or with contracted guides as needed. Hosted tours provide similar arrangements and independence on a set itinerary with a host or guide to help at major destinations. Escorted tours are the most elaborate and expensive. They are group tours with a set itinerary, many components, and a tour guide. S-08: Receptive operators AKA inbound operators, local operators, and ground handlers. It is not practical for tour operators to open offices at each destination on their itineraries, so they use receptive tour operators to handle details. RTOs are experts in local culture, language, law, business practices, and the tourism industry. Their duties include contracting local transportation, sightseeing and event tickets, hotels, meals, and guides, as well as monitoring the tour quality and suggesting improvements. S-09: Event planners arrange various events for people, organizations, associations, and companies. They create a schedule of activities based on a central theme or purpose at a specific destination and venue. Event planners arrange flights, hotels, meals, entertainment, and ancillary events, such as sightseeing, golf tournaments, and pre- and post-event tours, so they work with all 4 operating sectors and DMOs. S-10: In the highly-competitive, widespread tourism industry, it pays to have multiple distribution outlets. While dual distribution means 2, in tourism it means more than 1. Today tourism’s dual distribution is online and brick and mortar, but each has numerous outlets that continue to grow. S-11: Keeping track of airline seat inventory and making reservations on multiple airlines throughout the world is a complex task. A Computer Reservation System (CRS) does that. Add in access to hotels, cruises, trains, car rentals, and other tourism products and you have a Global Distribution System (GDS). Travel agencies utilize both. Tourists enjoy access to tourism products via company web sites, apps, and online distributors. S-12: Tourism suppliers utilize many distribution channels, especially online. Travel agencies are the big box stores of the tourism industry, where customers buy virtually anything, while tour operators are the boutique shops that offer specialized products. Now I invite you to watch Video #24: Tourism Research. Thank you!
