The functions include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Managers engage in planning by establishing goals and developing strategies to achieve those goals. Managers engage in organizing by developing a structure for the organization as well as the individual jobs within that organization. Leading requires managers to direct and motivate employees to achieve organizational objectives. Lastly, controlling requires managers to evaluate performance and take necessary actions depending upon the results. The Control Process

04:28
For all companies, past success is no guarantee of future success. Even successful companies fall short or face challenges and thus have to make changes. Control is a regulatory process of establishing standards to achieve organizational goals, comparing actual performance to the standards, and taking corrective action when necessary to restore performance to those standards. Control is achieved when behavior and work procedures conform to standards and when company goals are accomplished. Control is not just an after-the-fact process, however. Preventive measures are also a form of control. The control process begins when managers set goals such as satisfying 90 percent of customers or increasing sales by 5 percent. Companies then specify the performance standards that must be met to accomplish those goals. Standards are a basis of comparison for measuring the extent to which organizational performance is satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Benchmarking is the process of determining how well other companies (not just competitors) perform business functions or tasks. In other words, benchmarking is the process of determining other companies’ standards. The next step in the control process is to compare actual performance to performance standards. The next step in the control process is to identify performance deviations, analyze those deviations, and then develop and implement programs to correct them. The control is cybernetic because constant attention to the feedback loop is necessary to keep the company’s activity on course. Control is achieved when behavior and work procedures conform to standards, and goals are accomplished. To determine whether control is worthwhile, managers need to carefully assess regulation costs, that is, whether the costs and unintended consequences of control exceed its benefits. Another factor to consider is cybernetic feasibility, the extent to which it is possible to implement each of the three steps in the control process. If one or more steps cannot be implemented, then maintaining effective control may be difficult or impossible.

Management Function Controlling and Evaluation and How to Control?

01:47
Controlling involves ensuring that performance does not deviate from standards. https://www.udemy.com/management-for-the-new-managers Controlling consists of three steps, which include (1) establishing performance standards, (2) comparing actual performance against standards, and (3) taking corrective action when necessary. Performance standards are often stated in monetary terms such as revenue, costs, or profits but may also be stated in other terms, such as units produced, number of defective products, or levels of quality or customer service. The measurement of performance can be done in several ways, depending on the performance standards, including financial statements, sales reports, production results, customer satisfaction, and formal performance appraisals.

Project Management Simplified: Learn The Fundamentals of PMI's Framework ✓

50:41
✅http://lig.academy - Need a better job? Most LIG members find their ideal employment within as little as 15 days. Welcome to this week's episode where I make project management simple for you. To make it applicable to the majority of the audience, I am teaching Project Management Institute's (PMI) project management framework. ________________________________________________ Textbooks and frameworks are always boring. So, to make project management more interesting for you, I ran a project to demonstrate what steps to take and when. You won't regret spending 50 minutes to learn the basics of a wonderful practice called project management. You can also download all the templates I used in the session here (no need to register); https://thecareermastery.com/career-tips/project-management-simplified/ Although I strongly recommend you watch the entire session without skipping, for those of you who are just looking for snippets of information, you may find below the index of the video; 03:03 What is a project, program, and portfolio and how are they different from operations? 04:08 Project = Project Life Cycle + Project Management Process 04:43 Project Life Cycle 06:52 Process Groups 09:27 LIG, PMP certification or CAPM certification, which one is right for you? It definitely has a sexy tone to it right? Project… I just love the way it sounds. I wonder how cool it must sound in French. Proje… Well, project is a temporary endeavor to create a unique solution. Yeah that’s operations. No Well, the difference between a project and operations is fairly simple. A project ends. So, it’s temporary. You implement your project, you close it, you create a unique product/service/ or whatever outcome you wanted then you are done. Whereas in operations, it’s on-going and repetitive. You may have also heard about the terms program and portfolio. Let me just quickly explain them here. Program is multiple projects put together. Combined. And Portfolio is similarly. Multiple programs put together. So, it’s project, program, portfolio. Now before I go further, and dive deep. You need to understand something crucial. To run any project, you need 2 methodologies. The first one is a project life cycle and the second one is project management process. Most people confuse these 2. And if these are not clear, you can kiss the PMP certification goodbye. It’s absolutely amazing how many content creators in YouTube confuse these two. They are not interchangeable. You cannot afford to confuse a project life cycle with a project management process. Don’t worry I am going to make it very simple for you. Let’s start with Project Life Cycle. Project Life Cycle is unique to a project, to an industry, to your needs. It’s highly customizable. Think of it like this; a human development is a project. So, your life cycle is; 1) Conceiving 2) Birth 3) Childhood 4) Teenage hood. Teenage hood. Is that a word? Teenaging? 5) Adulthood 6) And death Easy stuff right? So, now if it was an IT project. I am not an IT but it would like something like this; High-level design Detailed Design Coding Testing Installation And Turnover This is project life cycle. The term cycle is a bit confusing here. I think. But who knows. This video covers; project management project management institute pmp project management professional certification project life cycle project management PMI managing a project project management fundamentals fundamentals of project management project management for beginners project management course

Understanding Control Systems, Part 2: Feedback Control Systems

05:58
Explore introductory examples to learn about the basics of feedback control systems. Learn how feedback control is used to automate processes, and discover how it deals with system variations and unexpected environmental changes. Watch other MATLAB Tech Talks: https://goo.gl/jD0uOH Get a free Product Trial: https://goo.gl/C2Y9A5 The examples utilize everyday appliances, like a toaster and a shower, to help you understand the basic structure and working principles of a feedback control loop. The first example shows how a toaster can be controlled to cook bread perfectly by continuously monitoring the bread’s color. It also shows how feedback control deals with system variations (like different types of bread). The second example outlines how feedback control can help regulate water temperature in a shower. It demonstrates how the feedback control system can compensate for unexpected environmental changes acting on the system – such as someone running a dishwasher at the same time as the shower. In sum, feedback control measures the actual output of a system (like toast in the first example or water temperature in the second) by using a sensor (eyes in both of the examples). Based on the difference between the desired and the measured output, a controller (human in both of the examples) sends a signal to a device (in these cases, the toaster or the shower). The signal makes the device’s output achieve the desired value despite system variations or unexpected environmental events.
