CSS Tutorial For Beginners 35 - Paragraph Spacing

03:47
Yo ninjas! In this CSS tutorial for beginners I'll walk you through how to space out paragraph tags on a page using the margin property. Consider this a gentle introduction into the box model in CSS. In the next lesson we'll learn even more about margins and the box model property. When applying spacing between paragraph tags, it's normally best just to apply a margin to either the bottom or the top of the tag. I opt for bottom, but this is your choice. Anyway, peace out, have fun and keep coding :). CSS Tutorial — Relative Sizes, Percentage % (7/13)

02:35
CSS Tutorial — Relative Sizes, Percentage % (7/13) Relative size is huge. The first one I wanna show you is percentage. AAAAAA this is a good one. You can say width: 50%. That’s legit CSS. But wait, 50% of what? Good question... Say we have P tag. I’ll give it a red background so we can see where it starts and where it ends. You should do that too. P tags by default are block level elements, I explain more here. so they take up the whole row. Their width is 100% of their parent. So by default it’s kinda like the P tag has an invisible rule on it that says width: 100%. They kinda just adjust to their containing parent element. Now what if I change the width to 50%; What if I add that to my CSS? BOOM. Look at that. Now it’s half the size. Wait, again, half the size of what? In this case the containing parent of our P tag is the body, I’ll add a green border to body so you can see. when I resize the window the body is getting smaller & bigger, but the width value that we gave our P tag stays 50%, relative to the body. Because it’s its parent. So when I resize the window, my P tag will automatically resize itself to be 50% whatever the body is. This is a technique used in responsive web design. It’s extremely useful. It’s not the end all be all, there are times where you don’t want a relative value, but if I used absolute values for width and height, my element might look great on one screen, but be completely unusable in a smaller device. So it’s safe to say relative values are mostly used to support different screen sizes. I don’t want you to worry about responsive web yet, it’s a whole course in and of itself, and I promise we’ll get there. There are other very important relative units I wanna show you, EM and REM, they are absolutely essential in sizing your text, something I brought up already. And that’s coming up next. Let’s go get it.

HTML5 Tutorial For Beginners - part 2 of 6 - Text

05:52
http://www.LittleWebHut.com This series of videos demonstrates how to write HTML code that is compliant with the new HTML5 standards. These videos are good for beginners. Part 1: This video describes HTML tags, elements, and attributes. The new HTML5 doctype declaration is shown as well as the method for specifying the character encoding for the document. The basic structure of an HTML document is also shown. This video introduces the html, head, meta, title, body, and p tags. Part 2: This video describes how to use text. The p tag is demonstrated and the heading tags are introduced. The br tag is also shown. This video also touches on the importance of CSS. A quick demonstration of CSS is shown to center some text and to change its color. In older versions of HTML, text could be centered by using the align attribute. However, this attribute is deprecated and is not valid HTML5. While the align attribute may still work in your browser, it is not compliant with HTML5 standards. Therefore, learning CSS can be very beneficial when working with HTML5 code. Part 3: This video demonstrates how to use images and hyperlinks. The difference between relative and absolute addressing is covered. This video shows the height and width attributes used with the img tag. In older versions of HTML, the height and width attributes could be specified in pixels or as a percentage. However, it is not valid HTML5 to specify these values as a percentage. If a percentage value is desired then CSS can be used. Part 4: This video introduces 2 elements that are new to HTML5, the audio and video elements. While older browsers don't support these new elements, the popular newer browsers do. Link to the code used in this video. http://www.littlewebhut.com/html5/text/

And your website layout in general. Okay. Inline elements are basically elements that flow, that flows one after each other, for example, add one p tag and add some text inside, as you can see we can add our span, which is an in-line element and says this is span and you can see that our text is inside the text it this text wrap its around, so nothing special, you just add some in-line elements. For example, let's add the big is this is an inline element and say this is big text, and that's it. Inline elements are elements that are inside the text and the text flows around them. Okay, let's move to block elements. Block elements are, for example, our div is a block element and I will explain on this example. Let's add to our div some styling, some styling, I prepare some styles over here in the comment just cut it inside add some width to be 100 pixels, and the height also, and background color to be white. Just to add hex code... and now we can see our div element. For example, if you add, we can add in the span elements, we can add another span element, for example, this is a big text big, we just copy and paste it and it will be in a line, but if we add another div elements, just copy this one here, it will go in another line. Just add some margin so we can better see margin to be up 20 pixels. Okay, so we can see our, our div element so let's add another div element. okay, there's another div element. As you can see the block elements are one below another and our in-line elements are next to each other. But, we have tricks, we can just mash up some these things, and just let's say that are div elements, which are naturally block elements, let's say display, display inline, so they act like inline elements. And what happened? As you can see something is wrong. And that's because inline elements don't support height and width of the elements. Just check this out: if we add to our big, just say it's add to our big element, let's add height for example 100 pixels nothing happens. Width also 100 pixels nothing happens. Because inline elements don't support width and height, but block elements do, so we just need to display these like inline-block. As you can see now our elements are acting just like in-line elements, just like this one, and that but there block elements. What will happen if we add to our in-line elements display to be displayed like a block? They will just fall down ok? I will just add background color so we can see better. And as you can see we changed to block height in the width now have a purpose and we had these white background block but if we add inline-block they will flow next to each other the flow next to each other. So the main difference between the div and in-line between the block and in-line elements is that in-line in line with text and block acts as a block and just add display in-line block or display block to change behavior of that element. So everything can be in-line and everything can be a block element by just by adding these rule display. And this is it, thank you for watching and bye-bye.

CSS - Upgrading HTML Tags with Style: Creating a Website Made Easy

20:00
Lesson on Upgrading HTML Tags to CSS Style from Udemy online course: Creating a Website Made Easy Full course description and 25% discount coupon: http://tharsishighlands.com/online-courses/creating-a-website-made-easy/ Transcript: In this lesson, we will take many of the basic HTML tags and use them as CSS element selectors to upgrade their style. In CSS, the HTML tags are called "elements." BODY First, we start with the [body] tag element (YouTube does not allow angle brackets in description). When you first set up your main CSS file, you typically want to establish the basics for your entire page. These can include, • background-color • background-image • default font-size, color and font-family All of these can be handled in the body element. For example, body { background-color: linen; background-image: url("pix/tree.jpg"); font-family: Vera, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; color: #24425C; } SELECTORS We've already seen a little about CSS syntax. For example, h1 { color: blue; } Each CSS style starts with a selector and is followed by one or more declarations within open and close braces — each declaration being a property-value pair: { property: value } Element selectors select all HTML tags of the same name. For instance, for the [p] tag, p { text-align: center; color: red; } [p]All paragraphs with only the p tag are centered and red. This is a demonstration of how the element selector works.[/p] The ID selector uses the ID attribute of an HTML element to select that specific element. ID is a unique identifier. On any one page, there can be only one of that ID. Also, the ID name cannot start with a numeral. For example, #first_heading { color: red; } [h1 id="first_heading"]This is the First Heading on the Page[/h1] The class selector selects all elements with a specific class attribute. .quote { border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; border-color: #880000; padding: 5px; font-size: 18px; font-style: italic; } Here, we see a class called "quote" which uses larger type, italics and a dark red border. Next, is the HTML which uses that class. [p class="quote"]"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."[/p] A class can be restricted to only one element type. For example, p.first { text-indent: 0px; } This can be helpful if all other paragraphs are given an indent. The first paragraph after a heading can be made flush left. We can also use more than one class at a time. For example, [p class="first quote"]"Houston, we have a problem..."[/p] We've already seen how selectors which share property values can be grouped. h1, h2, h3 { color: steelblue; } In the earlier lesson on the Head section, we learned how to link to an external style sheet — a file with sets of selectors and declarations. For internal CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations, but set within open and close [style] tags. [head] [style] body { background-color: darkslateblue; } [/style] [/head] And for inline CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations within a style attribute. [p style="text-indent: 50px; color: steelblue;"]This is important text.[/p] Multiple Styles Cascade into One CSS statements have a sequence of priority. The lowest priority of style is the browser defaults. Next are the external and internal style sheets in the head section. Sequence matters, so if you link to your external style sheet after the internal style declarations, the external CSS takes priority over the internal. Finally, the inline style declarations take the highest priority. For all style information that uses the same selectors, the highest priority replaces the lower priorities. For example, External: p { color: blue; text-indent: 30px; } Internal: p { color: green; } Inline: p { color: red; } The final style is: p { color: red; text-indent: 30px; } Background: The following properties control the background of HTML elements. • background-color • background-image • background-repeat • background-attachment • background-position Example: body { background-color: blue; } As we've already learned, colors can be specified, • As Hex — like "#00ffff" • As RGB — like "rgb(0,255,255)" • By name — like "aqua" We will learn more about colors and the new CSS3 color specification in a later lesson. Background Image: The default behavior of a background image is to repeat the image both vertically and horizontally in order to fill the entire background of the element with the selected picture. body { background-image: url("pix/sandbaked.gif"); } [...] In the next lesson, we talk about fonts, tables and links. HTML5 Tutorial For Beginners - part 3 of 6 - Images and Hyperlinks

05:26
http://www.LittleWebHut.com This series of videos demonstrates how to write HTML code that is compliant with the new HTML5 standards. Link to the code used in this video. http://www.littlewebhut.com/html5/images_and_hyperlinks/

How to Vertically Align Text next to an Image

03:26
Align those images and text! Perfectly align them next to each other using CSS magical magic :) Project Resources: http://www.mediafire.com/download/raktf1cxje34p17/How_to_vertically_align_text_next_to_an_image.7z Tools: Brackets, FREE code editor http://brackets.io/ Emmet, super speed coding addon http://emmet.io/ Beautify, turning your ugly code into beautiful script https://github.com/brackets-beautify/brackets-beautify Transcription: Hi guys, today we will vertically align text next to an image. So let's do it! First of all, let's import our image. I prepare some image in the description you have project files are in the description, so you can download it. It's a pretty big image but don't worry, it's a just a motherboard. Okay, just let's style these image a bit. We styled this image just say that are image size height. Height to be 100 pixels we just shrink our image, okay? And just added the span element. Span element ,and say this is a text. Okay, as you can see, this is the text is a bit down here and we want to be in the middle. Just and vertically align middle. Ta-da. This is it, guys. Don't go, there are few gems about this, as you can see, this is in in the middle and as you can see these blue is our in-line element. But, for example, what if we want to add our p tag? This is a problem, the problem is here. This p is below the image so if you want to add this p next to our image we just have to do these: Our p tag needs some modification, okay? We add display-inline. And this is it, as you can see if we select this tag. Our p tag acts like an inline element, just like our span element, and because the p tag is the block element, if we remove this, it will go down there. OK, just remove this, but if you say inline-block, it will also be up, but act as a block element as you can see, I can now select only the text. And if I selected this, it's a different, remember : this one here, the big one is inline and this one is a block element. It's a huge difference, and in my tutorial tutorials you can learn what is the difference between inline and block elements, so don't be scared and visit me there, and that's it guys and have a nice day, I hope this, I hope this help you, and bye-bye.

HTML Tutorial — Class, ID, selectors, identifiers (11/11)

05:22
HTML Tutorial — Class, ID, selectors, identifiers (11/11) https://www.colorcode.io/course/html-basics/identifiers-class-id So, everything we’ve built together so far has been HTML only. And it’s pretty obvious that they are uuuuuuuu-ugly. So I wanna talk to you about CSS, which is how we make our HTML pretty. But before we can do that we need to learn about selector, … the last thing I’m gonna show you in this course which will push us over the edge and get us to CSS. Every web project you work on will have at least one HTML file. There is no way around it. You will be working with HTML. Those files will grow in size pretty quickly. You will end up with dozens of elements and you’re gonna wanna keep track of those elements, you wanna know who’s who and refer to them for different reasons. One of those reasons is to target them for styling, to change how they look. What do I mean by target? Let’s say we have a paragraph, and we want it to be red. One way to do is to add style attribute, color: red. Great. I’m still in HTML. No need for CSS. What if you have 2 paragraphs? Ok I’ll just add the attribute to both of them I guess. Now what if you have 5? Or 10? Or 100? And pretty often you will. You’re gonna add style attributes to all of them? Ok you’re just copy and paste it a bunch of times. It’s painful but maybe not the worst thing in the world. I can maaaaaaaybe even accept that. Now, hold on. We made a mistake. It wasn’t supposed to be red. The designer meant blue. What if you wanna change them all to blue? You’re gonna go to 100 places in your code and change 100 reds to blue? That’s just ridiculous. This is why we have programs and programming languages to do our repetitive work for us. Instead what if we could define our styles in one place (color of paragraphs = red), and have that guy go to all of our paragraphs and change the color? We can, and that’s why we need identifiers. Our style guy needs to know who is the target for this color. Using identifiers. One identifier you get for free is the type of tag itself. The fact that we are using semantic HTML is beneficial here, as well as all the other benefits we talked about. You can say hey, target all the p tags, and change them all to red. Great. Now we can remove the style attributes from the HTML, and if for some reason we needed to change the color to blue, all we have to do is change it in this one place, and we’re done. But what if the type of element wasn’t specific enough? What if you just wanted SOME paragraphs to be red? And SOME to be blue? Well then we need to distinguish between them. And that’s where unique identifiers come in handy. A P target (or as it’s refered to in CSS: p selector) what if that’s not specific enough? There are 2 ways to attach unique identities to elements. Class and ID. Both CLASSes and IDs are attributes you add to your element. Very simple. They become the identity of your element. ID or class equals some name, this could be whatever you want, you just can’t have spaces in the name. Letters, numbers, underscore, dash, colon and . are all valid characters. So what’s the difference between class and ID. A class is a like category or group. Elements can have multiple classes and multiple elements can have the same class. It’s kinda like classes in school. You can have multiple classes, math, physics, and classes can have people in them. You can add multiple classes to an element by putting space between them. Like this. So you can have 2 classes here, primary class (which we’ll target in CSS and make it RED, and a secondary class (BLUE). Very cool. And again the name of the class is up to you. Just make sure it makes sense. So that’s class. ID is unique, an ID can only belong to one element. It can’t be shared. And each element can only have 1 ID. It’s like a social security number. It’s yours and only yours. So if you have an element that needs super special treatment you can add an ID to it and then target that ID to do what you need to do, whether it’s styling, or functionality or whatever else. Ok so with that in mind, you know all the HTML basics you need, to move on to your second programming language. You are ready to start your CSS journey ??You did watched all 10 videos right? If so, nice job. Let’s move on to the next course. CSS Basics, and I’ll see you there #CSSLife

Paragraph tag and HR tag in HTML | Santosh Chaurasiya | Pyramid Solution

06:01
In this video you learn about Paragraph tag and Horizontal tag (HR tag) in detail step by step. The p tag defines a paragraph. Browsers automatically add some space (margin) before and after each p element. The margins can be modified with CSS (with the margin properties). The hr tag defines a thematic break in an HTML page (e.g. a shift of topic). Hr stands for Horizontal row. The hr element is used to separate content (or define a change) in an HTML page. :::::::::::::::: Subscribe | Share | Like | Comment ::::::::::::::::::::::

HTML5 Basics - Display Types (Part5)

07:06
In this video we are going to talk about something inherent to html tags: display types. Display types define how the tags behave when rendered by the browser. We can use Style Sheets to change these at any time, but each tag has a default behavior and its important to understand how they will work when you are describing your page when writing the initial markup. Got that? # Three Types There are a lot, but we are going to concern ourselves with three main display styles. # Block Block level elements are big blocks, just like they sound. They are generally used to divide content, because by default block level elements begin on new lines. Block-level elements may contain inline elements and other block-level elements. Inherent in this structural distinction is the idea that block elements create "larger" structures than inline elements. An example is a "p" tag, that sections off the whole paragraph, and forces the next paragraph tag to a new line. Check out the notes below for a link to a list of all the block level tags in HTML. [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Block-level_elements] # Inline Inline elements may contain only data and other inline elements. Where block level elements are larger structures that contain all kinds a crap. By default, inline elements do not begin with new line when rendered by the browser. An example of this would be to wrap some words in your paragraph in an "a" tag. the words become a link, but the link does not start a new line in the paragraph, or disrupt the flow of content. It just sits inline in the paragraph. When we get to styling our document, we will note that inline elements cannot take width, height, margin and padding styles. For more on that check out this link [http://www.maxdesign.com.au/articles/inline/] # Inline-block This is the strange, but handy one. An inline block is placed inline (ie. on the same line as adjacent content), but it behaves as a block. So it can take those margins and paddings and dimensions. The only tags that default to inline-block are images and buttons. But with css, later on we will see that we can change any element to inline-block if we want to. Check out the link below for more information on inline-block [http://www.impressivewebs.com/inline-block/] # Display None & Table and others... There are other default display types that all have their little display behavior quirks; like display:table, or display:none. And there are a lot of interesting display methods on the horizon in css3, but today we wanted to just talk about how the html tags cary certain display types by default.

CSS Tutorial — 3 ways to write CSS in an HTML page (2/13)

06:11
CSS Tutorial — 3 ways to write CSS in an HTML page (2/13) Before we write any CSS I want you to know... all browsers already have a bunch of CSS in them. The reason why H1 is bigger than P without you writing any CSS, is because the browser comes with a set of default styles. You can see these in Chrome if you just inspect element say on an H1 (so right click, inspect element) and go down to the styles tab. Here they are. I’ll tell you what they mean soon. They might be slightly different from browser to browser. But they do exist. So now that we know that, it’s time for us to write our own styles. There are 3 ways to change the styles of your page. First one is Inline styles. This means within HTML, using an attribute directly added to your elements. I tell you why that’s a terrible idea here. But here’s an example just so you know how it’s done. I take this header tag and I’ll add a style attribute, then I’ll say color is blue. Done. You can see it change but this is bad. Don’t do this. The second way is through actual CSS. Which is a much better idea. You can write your CSS inside a STYLE tag, usually in the HEAD. Whatever you put inside a STYLE tag the browser will treat as CSS. Here’s a basic CSS formula. About 90% of your CSS statements look like this: Selector… {... }... style property… : …. style value…. Sina, what…. the fuck…. Are you talking about? Alright Let me explain. A selector is what part of your HTML you want to style? Which elements. You have the select them first. And we’ll talk about selectors a lot in the next video. There’s all kinds. So for now let’s say a P selector. This will style all your paragraphs with the following styles. Style property is things like Color, Font-size, Background, Border, that kinda thing. So let’s say color which will change the color of the text. COLON. This is almost like the = sign, Style value, for example, red. This is it. You just turned all your paragraphs red. So let’s recap: Select all my p tags, change their COLOR, to RED. That’s it. You can replace any of these three to whatever you want (As long as it makes sense, you can’t say color should be small, or font-size, blue. It has to make sense). So for example: you can instead target all H1s. Or instead of COLOR you can change the BACKGROUND COLOR, and instead of RED, change it to GREEN. So then... it becomes a game of how these 3 things play together and choosing the right combinations. Writing styles in a style tag is alright I guess... but there’s an even better way. Which is to create a separate CSS file dedicated to your styles, and load it into your HTML using a LINK tag. This isn’t a LINK that the user can click on or anything like that, so don’t be tricked by the name. It just means we are linking the HTML to the CSS file. So let’s create a CSS file and move our styles there. DEMO 1 - This is the way we’re gonna do it from now on, because it separates the template (the HTML), from the styles (the CSS). This way things are clean and clear, and you know exactly where to look to find things. And you’ll have 2 small files instead 1 big one, which is hard to navigate, as your site grows. You can also mess around in Chrome Dev tools and manipulate your styles at run-time. Here’s what I mean by that... DEMO 2 - So next we’re gonna look at Selectors and what different types there are. Brother PT-D210 Label Maker Review

Brother P-Touch PT-D210 Label Maker review Brother P-Touch PT-D210 Label Maker: http://amzn.to/1XyQ5RX Brother PT-D210 Replacement Tapes: http://amzn.to/25JzLSU Today I’m reviewing the Brother PT-D210 Label Maker. This one of the most popular label makers on the market and one of Brother’s newest household label makers. The D210 adopts a wide format keyboard layout with a monochrome LCD screen on top. The power and print buttons are on either side of the screen and there are two rows of options buttons arranged below the screen. The body is made from a white plastic and has the label cut off lever on the right hand edge. The unit is powered by 6 triple A batteries, which is somewhat annoying, as most people don’t usually have triple AAA batteries lying around. Nevertheless, this is very common in most entry-level label makers. Now if you’re not a big fan of batteries or plan on using the machine very often, brother does sell an optional ac power supply, so you can plug it into a wall outlet. The tape cartridge clicks into place right next to where the batteries are installed. The base kit comes with a sample cartridge, which is a black on white, 12mm wide tape that is 13 feet long. You can however buy tape cartridges ranging from 3.5mm to 12mm in width. They are also available in a whole host of colors and finishes, depending on whether you plan to use the labels indoors or outdoors. The replacement tape cartridges are priced rather inexpensively and the prices are very similar to Dymo tapes. And replacements are 26ft long, versus the 13foot starter tape that comes with the machine. I’ll leave links to some popular tape colors and sizes below. And as with a lot of other label makers on the market, it has a little window on the bottom cover, which allows you to see which cartridge is currently loaded. At around 600g, I wouldn’t say the d210 is a light machine, but its still very comfy to use with two hands. And in fact I prefer the wide keyboard layout to the compact keyboard that you might find on something like the Dymo LabelManager 160. Its actually much easier to type on a wide format keyboard like this one. All the keys have a rubberized soft touch feel to them and are all very responsive. The LCD screen is decent enough for indoor use in a well-lit room. It isn’t backlit, but no label maker in this price range has a backlit screen. And for most uses around the home and home office, you most likely won’t ever need a backlit screen. In terms of label design options, the D210 is packed with features. It has 14 different fonts with the option to adjust size, width, style and alignment. It has 99 pre-set decorative and functional frame options, which add a touch of style to your labels. You can also choose from dozens of pre-loaded label templates. It also has the option to add an almost endless number of symbols, which include all the popular, basic symbols and even a huge selection of basic emojis. And once you’re done setting up your label exactly the way you want, you can even save it for future use. The print quality is probably its best feature. The prints were surprisingly crisp and very clear. I’d say the print quality was a little better than the Dymo LabelManager 160. Now they both produce usable labels, but the Brother definitely has better print quality. The label adhesive also seems to work really well and there was no lifting or wrinkles on the edges and labels stuck to most surfaces without any serious issues. So should you buy the Brother Pt-D210. Well, if you’re just looking for a barebones basic label maker for occasional use, we still highly recommend the Dymo Labelmanager 160, feel free to check out our review of that unit. However, if you want a label maker that gives you a lot more functionality and better print quality, the D210 is definitely worth the upgrade. The D210 is packed with a ton of features, is easy to use and produces very professional looking labels with a bit of artistic flair. I highly recommend this unit for home and home office use. Now if you’re looking for a more commercial, rugged label maker, our recommendation is to get the Dymo Rhino 4200. I’ll leave links to all 3 label makers below. Hope this review was useful, if it was, please give us a big thumbs up and subscribe for more reviews. Thanks for watching and see you next time.
