Modest Mouse - March Into The Sea

03:33
Hey wazzup all you Modest Mouse fans? I'm back and more modest than ever with "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" Enjoy track one March Into The Sea (Also my favorite off the album) If food needed pleasing you'd suck all the seasoning off, Suck it off! Well treat me like the disease like the rats and the fleas, A-ha-ha! Bang your head like a gong 'cause its' filled with all wrong! A-ha-ha! If you think you know enough to know you know you've had enough. And if you think you don't you probably will. Our tauls wagged and then fell off, but we just turned back, marched into the sea. Well treat me like the sea oh so salty and mean, Ah-ha-hah-ha! Well treat me like the disease like the rats and the fleas, ah-ha-ha! I'll be beating my heart's record for speeding. I'll be beating the record for hearts skipping in the dark. Our tails wagged and then fell off but we just turned back, marched into the sea, well we just turned back, marched into the sea. Take all that you need like my sign says for free, till it's gone! Till it's gone! Well discard whom you please like the leaves off a tree, A-ha-ha! Let's shake hands if you want but soon both hands are gone, ha-ha-ha! Well treat me like the sea oh so salty and mean, oh-ha-ha. Oh treat me like the sea oh so salty and mean oh-ha-ha. Treat me like the disease like the rats and the fleas. Bang your head like a gong 'cause you call it all wrong, move your tongue. Klang klang! Klang klang! Klang klang! Klang klang, klang klang! Cut me down like a tree like the lumber or weeds, well discard who you please like the leaves off a tree. Drag me out of the sea and then teach me to breath. Give me forced health till I wish death on myself. Ah! Ha! Ha! Well we all stumbled round tangled up in the cords from our phones, V.C.R. and our wordly woes. Ah! Ha! Ha! March on! March on! March on! March on! MARCH ON!

Röyksopp - Running To The Sea feat. Susanne Sundfør (Live on Lydverket)

05:01
'Running To The Sea' is available on iTunes: http://smarturl.it/rtts Remix bundle featuring Man Without Country, Seven Lions, Villa, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Pachanga Boys, DJ HMC and Magnus & Timon available now. Beatport: http://ryxp.co/rttsbeatport iTunes: http://smarturl.it/ryxprtts ------------- "For a long time we've been considering an artist collaboration with Susanne Sundfør, and the final anniversary show of NRK Lydverket turned out to be the ideal time and place. Initially, we thought about performing a pure cover version, but the chemistry and vibes between the three of us was out of the ordinary, which led us to put together a new track from scratch. The song Running To The Sea was written and recorded in two days, just in time for the TV-performance. Susanne possesses a unique combination of distinctiveness and international talent, unique far beyond the borders of Norway. In addition, she has insightful knowledge on cooking inside a pit dug out of the ground. Susanne delivered gold on her first vocal take. We still asked her to do another 58 though. These were never used, however, having these unused vocal takes available created an atmosphere of luxury in the studio." B+B

8 GREAT TIPS FOR SURVIVAL AT SEA

06:11
Most of us adore beach resorts and go to one of the large saltwater bodies at least once a year. However, we shouldn’t forget that the sea is as attractive as it is wayward. We at Bright Side wondered how a person who happened to be in the open sea should behave. It turns out there are several rules that aren’t at all difficult to remember. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don’t give up hope of being saved. There are many stories of people who were found in the open sea months after their disappearance. For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim, who worked on a British merchant ship, survived alone 133 days in the open sea. After a shipwreck, he managed to find a raft with fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight. Every day, Lim ate only 2 cookies and made 3 sips of water. To avoid muscle atrophy, he even floated around the raft twice a day. As you can see, human possibilities are endless. The main thing is to keep calm and hope for the best. TIMESTAMPS Calm down 0:35 Choose the right swimming style 0:57 Find something that floats 1:37 Take care of clothes 1:55 Decide what you’ll eat 2:16 Provide yourself with liquid 3:01 Save yourself properly 4:02 Don’t lose hope 5:06 SUMMARY: - Panic definitely won’t help you. It can cloud your judgment and make you lose the rhythm of breathing. Therefore, the first thing you should do is to calm down. - The style of swimming you choose determines how long your strength will last. In calm water, it’s better to swim on your back. If waves splash around you, it’s better to swim on your belly. - If you’re in the open sea as a result of a shipwreck or an airplane water landing, there must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It will be even better if it’s a boat or a raft with which ships are equipped. - Remember that open sunlight can be extremely dangerous. So don’t remove your clothes — they’ll protect you from the sun. - If you have rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them last for a long time, and you won’t have problems with digestion. - Try to fish even if you have stores of food. After all, fish contain some liquid. - You have to consume the liquid constantly but never drink seawater. - Try to ensure that you always have a couple of empty containers left for collecting rainwater. According to studies, drinking untreated rainwater is safe for your health. - • If you found fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you see an airplane or ship. It forms a bright spot around you which can be easily seen from the air and from afar. Sea Urchins Pull Themselves Inside Out to be Reborn | Deep Look

03:23
Conceived in the open sea, tiny spaceship-shaped sea urchin larvae search the vast ocean to find a home. After this incredible odyssey, they undergo one of the most remarkable transformations in nature. SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK is a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Get a new perspective on our place in the universe. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. * NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER TUESDAY! * Every summer, millions of people head to the coast to soak up the sun and play in the waves. But they aren’t alone. Just beyond the crashing surf, hundreds of millions of tiny sea urchin larvae are also floating around, preparing for one of the most dramatic transformations in the animal kingdom. Scientists along the Pacific coast are investigating how these microscopic ocean drifters, which look like tiny spaceships, find their way back home to the shoreline, where they attach themselves, grow into spiny creatures and live out a slow-moving life that often exceeds 100 years.“These sorts of studies are absolutely crucial if we want to not only maintain healthy fisheries but indeed a healthy ocean,” says Jason Hodin, a research scientist at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Laboratories. http://staff.washington.edu/hodin/ http://depts.washington.edu/fhl/ Sea urchins reproduce by sending clouds of eggs and sperm into the water. Millions of larvae are formed, but only a handful make it back to the shoreline to grow into adults. --- What are sea urchins? Sea urchins are spiny invertebrate animals. Adult sea urchins are globe-shaped and show five-point radial symmetry. They move using a system of tube feet. Sea urchins belong to the phylum Echinodermata along with their relatives the sea stars (starfish), sand dollars and sea slugs. --- What do sea urchins eat? Sea urchins eat algae and can reduce kelp forests to barrens if their numbers grow too high. A sea urchin’s mouth, referred to as Aristotle’s lantern, is on the underside and has five sharp teeth. The urchin uses the tube feet to move the food to its mouth. --- How do sea urchins reproduce? Male sea urchins release clouds of sperm and females release huge numbers of eggs directly into the ocean water. The gametes meet and the sperm fertilize the eggs. The fertilized eggs grow into free-swimming embryos which themselves develop into larvae called plutei. The plutei swim through the ocean as plankton until they drop to the seafloor and metamorphosize into the globe-shaped adult urchins. ---+ Read the entire article on KQED Science: https://ww2.kqed.org/science/2016/08/23/sea-urchins-pull-themselves-inside-out-to-be-reborn/ ---+ For more information: Marine Larvae Video Resource http://marinedevelopmentresource.stanford.edu/ ---+ More Great Deep Look episodes: From Drifter to Dynamo: The Story of Plankton | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUvJ5ANH86I Pygmy Seahorses: Masters of Camouflage | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3CtGoqz3ww The Fantastic Fur of Sea Otters | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxqg_um1TXI ---+ See some great videos and documentaries from PBS Digital Studios! Why This Diver Recorded His 'Final Hours' Adrift at Sea Before Being Rescue

01:33
A scuba diver thought he was doomed when he was lost at sea, 30 miles off the coast of Australia last month, and he is now thanking his lucky stars - and his wetsuit - for saving his life. Jacob Childs recorded his harrowing ordeal on a GoPro camera when he accidentally strayed away from his diving group off the coast of Queensland. The water apparel prevented him from getting hypothermia during the six-hour nightmare.

A Man Survived Alone 438 Days at Sea

09:45
You ever looked out at the open sea and thought, “What if I got swept away out there? What would happen to me?” Well, luckily for most of us, this is an unlikely scenario for a typical beach-goer. But this nightmare can come true if you're a fisherman and something has gone terribly wrong on your trip. That's exactly what happened to one man who spent over a year alone out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. His boat had neither a cabin nor any roof. And he even didn't have an anchor since he supposed that the trip wasn't going to take that long... His plan was pretty ambitious: he was going to spend 30 hours in the open ocean. - This trip was gonna be dangerous, and, naturally, the man couldn't hit the water without a second pair of hands. He found a 22-year-old volunteer who agreed step in to. - Alvarenga knew that a storm was rapidly approaching the area, but nothing could stop the fishermen from starting the journey. One good catch would be a week’s-worth of salary. - That’s when the heavy rain started – the storm had reached the men. Alvarenga had to take drastic measures. He dumped all the fish and several thousand dollars-worth of equipment into the ocean. - Several vessels and aircraft started a search-and-rescue operation that lasted for two days. But the weather was gradually getting worse, and it eventually became impossible to keep searching. - Alvarenga and his fishing partner were left on their own. And 5 days later, when the winds had died down a bit, they were 280 miles away from the shore, out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with nothing but blue water all around them. - During their voyage, they fed themselves on raw fish and turtles that they’d caught with their bare hands. They also grabbed birds that were unlucky enough to land on the boat. - But they were getting weak, especially Alvarenga’s fishing partner. Tragically, he did fall ill and wasn’t able to survive. - The fisherman spent months adrift in the ocean. The boat kept going until one day he saw land! It was a small island, Tile Islet, that was part of the Marshall Islands. - It turned out that Alvarenga had traveled almost 7,000 miles before he got to the shore. And he was fortunate to come across the island. - After 11 days of rest and recuperation, the rescued fisherman had recovered enough to fly home to El Salvador. 4 Tips on How to Stay Safe at Sea

11:31
How to Stay Safe at Sea Summer is a great time to enjoy the sun and the seaside, but both the beach and the sea can be full of dangers. To stay safe and protect your family you have know how to deal with all kinds of unexpected situations that can happen in the water. So grab a pen and paper and get ready to take note of these general safety rules when it comes to resting at the seaside. Don’t forget to pack all the beach necessities 0:55 You absolutely need to pack a first aid kit with medications for a variety of emergencies, prescriptions and devices like inhalers or EpiPens, sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, coolers with ice, plenty of bottled water, drinks and food. What to do if you’ve spotted a shark 1:44 Statistically, you have more chances of drowning somewhere near the beach or even being struck by lightning than becoming a victim of a shark attack. Still, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Be careful what you wear: sharks can negatively react to bright colors or shiny things. If you've spotted a shark, stay calm and concentrate on getting away and out of the water. Check for signs of aggression indicating that the animal is about to attack. If an attack seems inevitable, take a defensive position. Try to put a solid object between you and the animal. If there’s nothing at hand, the best way to scare a shark away is to scratch at its eyes or gills. How to avoid a jellyfish sting 6:02 Choose an area where you can swim safely. If you know that there are jellyfish around, avoid that place. If you’ve been stung by a jellyfish, get out of the water and stay calm. Don't touch or scratch the place of the sting because there might still be some tentacles attached to your skin. Pour some sea water over the affected area and leave it, don’t dry it off with a towel or anything. Then, pour a generous amount of vinegar over the tentacles in your skin and let it sit for at least half a minute. To relieve the pain, submerge the injured part of your body in warm water (about 110°F). What to do if you've stepped on a sea urchin 8:36 Make sure you’re not feeling any chest pain, nausea, or difficulty breathing. If you are, call emergency services. And if not, start by removing all the spines. Use tweezers to pull them out, especially if the ends of the spines are protruding. If they’re not, you can use hot wax. Once you’re sure that there are no spines left in your body, clean the wound with soap and water. What to do if you’ve been pulled into a rip current 9:50 Before going into the water, check for any suspicious-looking channels. Places with rip currents can be foamier or, on the contrary, quieter than others. If you've still got caught by the current, stay calm, it won't pull you underwater. If you start swimming parallel to the shore, you’ll manage to escape its pull. Music: Better_Than_It_Used_To_Be https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Beach necessities 0:55 What to do if you’ve spotted a shark 1:44 How to avoid a jellyfish sting 6:02 What to do if you've stepped on a sea urchin 8:36 What to do if you’ve been pulled into a rip current 9:50 SUMMARY -You absolutely need to pack a first aid kit with medications for a variety of emergencies, prescriptions and devices like inhalers or EpiPens, sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, coolers with ice, plenty of bottled water, drinks and food. -Never go into the water if there’s a posted warning on the beach. Don’t swim at night or at dawn or dusk. In the extremely rare instance of a prolonged deadly encounter, try to put a solid object between you and the animal (for example, a diving mask or surfboard). Don't stop fighting, this way the shark will get the message that you’re not worth all the trouble. -Pay attention to warning signs and watch for purple flags. That's the international sign that you’ll most likely encounter jellyfish in the water. If you see a jellyfish that’s washed ashore, don't touch it. -Start by removing all the spines. Use tweezers to pull them out, especially if the ends of the spines are protruding. If they’re not, you can use hot wax. Put it on the affected area, wait for it to dry, and pull it off; it’ll take the spines with it. -If you enter the water and feel a strong pull, get out immediately. As soon as the water gets up to your chest, it’ll be practically impossible to break free. If you've still got caught by the current, stay calm, it won't pull you underwater. Sea Turtle with Straw up its Nostril - "NO" TO PLASTIC STRAWS

08:07
This is the original video! Filmed by Christine Figgener, marine biologist at Texas A&M University. ***WARNING: Graphic Content & Inappropiate/ Strong Language!*** This video shows graphically why plastic waste is detrimental to marine life, especially single-use plastics (such as straws, which are one of the most redundant items). This turtle suffers from an item that is human-made and used by most of us frequently. The research team around Christine Figgener (Texas A&M University) found a male Olive Ridley sea turtle during an in-water research trip in Costa Rica. He had a 10-12 cm PLASTIC STRAW lodged in his nostril and they removed it. SAY "NO" TO PLASTIC STRAWS, AND ANY KIND OF ONE-TIME USE PLASTIC ITEMS! If you would like to support our research and conservation efforts in Costa Rica, please think about donating to our GoFundMe Campaign http://gofundme.com/wuhvd6zj UPDATES The Plastic Pollution Coalition just launched their "No Straw" Campaign in collaboration with us. Take the No-Straw-Pledge and learn more: http://www.plasticpollutioncoalition.... ----- The Story behind the viral video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLN52... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MPHb... OUR STORY: My research team found a male Olive Ridley sea turtle during an in-water research trip in Costa Rica. He had a 10-12 cm PLASTIC STRAW lodged in his nostril. After initially thinking that we are looking at a parasitic worm, and trying to remove it to identify it, we cut a small piece off to investigate further and finally identified what we were REALLY looking at. After a short debate about what we should do we removed it with the plier of a swiss army knife which was the only tool available on our small boat (not intended for overnight stays), since we were on the ocean, in a developing country, a few hours away from the coast and several hours away from any vet (probably days from any vet specialised in reptiles, not to mention sea turtles) and x-ray machines. Plus, we would have incurred a penalty (up to time in jail) on ourselves by removing the turtle since that is beyond our research permits. He did very obviously not enjoy the procedure very much, but we hope that he is now able to breath more freely. The blood from the shoulder is from a 6mm skin biopsy we took previously to this event for a genetic study (part of our permitted research), which usually doesn't bleed much, but which started bleeding while restraining the turtle. We disinfected the air passageway with iodine and kept the turtle for observation before releasing him back into the wild. The bleeding stopped pretty much immediately after the removal of the straw, and when we released him, he swam happily away. The turtle very likely swallowed the straw while ingesting other food items and then either expelled the straw together with the redundant sea water through her nostrils, or regurgitated the straw and it ended up in the wrong passageway. The nasal cavity of sea turtles is connected directly to the palate (roof of the mouth) by a long nasopharyngeal duct. NIGHTMARE AT SEA!!! (everything goes wrong) Ep. 119

15:17
Drifting out to sea, in 40 knots of wind, attached to another vessel by anchor chain. We had to be rescued by the coast guard that turned out to be an extremely old fishing boat. The Meltemi wind was blowing a steady 35 - 40 knots all day, we were safely anchored in a sheltered bay UNTIL... another boat anchored on top of our anchor and off we went, attached to one another, just avoiding running into a super yacht in the anchorage and then out to sea. The video is pretty self explanatory. I'm going to save my energy in writing a huge description to go a grab a well earned beer. What a day. The worst day of my whole life. Helping baby sea turtles into the ocean

04:33
http://www.tigresalvaje.com Helping the baby turtles swim out into the ocean was awesome. I got some amazing underwater shots with my Drift Stealth helmet camera in the waterproof enclosure, but didn't get as much underwater shots as I would have liked. I was so excited about what was happening around me that I was forgetting how to make a video. So there is some shaky footage, and maybe not as much as you would like to see of the turtles swimming, but I tried. Making these Tigre Salvaje videos has been a great experience. I really feel like these are some of the most important videos I have ever made. I know people have been donating, and offering their services to do things like build Dave a new website. It sound cliche but I really do have the best fans in the world. Dave is out there all alone, and in a situation like that it is easy to get discouraged. If you have the budget and the time visiting Tigre Salvaje would be a great experience. If you can send a small donation via paypal that would help out immensely http://www.tigresalvaje.com/donate.htm If you can't send any coin I'm sure Dave would appreciate an email saying thanks for what he is doing. Feel free to drop him a line and give a digital pat on the back. I know it would make him smile. [email protected] Song: Eternal Hope Artist: Kevin MacLeod www.incompetech.com

10 Sea Monsters ATTACKING A Boat!

12:03
Check out these 10 sea monsters attacking a boat! This top 10 list of ocean creatures like whales and great white sharks attacking a ship shows some bizarre stories caught on camera! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "MYSTERIOUS Creatures Living At The BOTTOM Of The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/Efhjc-Gu508 Watch our "SECRETS Casinos DON'T Want You To Find Out!" video here: https://youtu.be/hAoABuvzOZM Watch our "RAREST And Most EXPENSIVE Cars In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/MtCnWSqqilg 10. Great White Shark If you’ve been on a boat out on the ocean, a Jaws attack has probably crossed your mind. Even if it’s just barely!! Then of course you rationalize that the chances of that happening are practically 0. Practically. That’s what Terry Selwood, a 73-year-old Australian fisherman learned in 2017, when a great white shark leapt out of the water, into his boat!! 9. An Eagle Ray Rays seem like beautiful, serene creatures - but they can be extremely dangerous, even if you’re on the relative safety of a large tourist boat. In 2011, Jenny Hausch had rented a 26-foot catamaran for her family to take a trip in Florida. Sounds really nice right? 8. Swordfish In 2017, Alan Pope, a British tourist, was on a boat trip getting ready to go snorkeling in Indonesia when everything went horribly wrong. Without any warning, a swordfish jumped out of the water and into the boat, and impaled his neck with its bill. The end snapped off, and left six inches of the sword still jabbed inside his neck, just millimeters from instantly killing him. 7. Sperm Whales The Gulf of Alaska is a prime fishing location, especially for those trying to catch black cod. In these waters, though, there is a much larger creature that also likes eating the fish- sperm whales. They are the ocean’s largest toothed predators, and while they are quite capable of catching food for themselves, they much prefer taking the easy route. 6. Giant Squid Mostly creatures of legend, giant squids are mentioned in many old mariners tales of dangers at sea. But they are rarely seen, let alone involved in attacking boats. So when a team of French sailors came face to face with one in 2003, they almost didn’t believe it!! 5. Bull Shark You might think that a great white shark would be the most problematic shark species to boats, but there’s another type that can be more aggressive, and more likely to risk an encounter. 4. Jellyfish Sometimes it’s the smallest things that can have the biggest effect, something that became ever so apparent in 2017 when Chinese scientists were investigating why their aircraft carriers were experiencing difficulties. They found that large swarms of Jellyfish were getting caught up in the propulsion systems! This would stop the ships dead in their tracks, or cause the engines to overheat and cause extreme damage. 3. Mako Shark This next story took place just last year, 2017 in Long Island, New York. A fishing charter boat was taking guests to the location where they find the widest variety of fish, when suddenly a Mako shark jumped onto the side of the boat. Unfortunately for the fish, it managed to get itself stuck in the handrail of the boat and, despite thrashing about, it couldn’t free itself. 2. Black Marlin Game fishing is a popular pastime for many enthusiasts, but when you’re chasing after some of the largest and most powerful marine creatures on earth, you have to be ready for the unpredictable. Again last year, things went very wrong indeed for a fishing boat off the coast of Panama. They had caught a black marlin, a species that can weight up to 1500 pounds and reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. 1. Killer Whale If you’ve ever watched a nature documentary that’s featured Killer Whales, you’ll be all too familiar how organised and clever they can be. Pods work together to catch prey, and even tilt ice flows to trap seals. When they turn these skills towards human activity, the results can be frightening. Origins Explained is the place to be to find all the answers to your questions, from mysterious events and unsolved mysteries to everything there is to know about the world and its amazing animals!

Suspect Fleeing Police Jumps Into Ocean And Swims Dangerously Close to a Shark

01:14
A suspect found himself in hot water as he allegedly tried to elude officers by running into the sea in North Carolina following a traffic stop. Unfortunately for suspect Zachary Kingsbury, a five-foot shark also appeared to be following him. Police deployed a drone, which they say followed Kingsbury an impressive 4,000 feet off shore. Cops in Surf City say they had pulled over Kingsbury, 20, Thursday afternoon when an officer allegedly spotted something suspicious in his car.
