China vs USA and the world: Carrier killer missile, other military stories - compilation

19:21
In only a generation, China has transformed itself into one of the most dominant countries in the world. After a significant period of economic growth in the 1990s and 2000s, China is now capable of designing and producing its own high-tech weapons. Its growing military power is a major source of tension in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly with the U.S, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and other nearby countries. TomoNews presents to you a selection of stories about China’s latest weapons and military actions. 1. The DF-ZF hypersonic glide vehicle flies at five to 10 times the speed of sound and could be operational by 2020. 2. China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy now has more submarines than the U.S. Navy. Should we be worried? 3. After meticulous sleuthing, bloggers and netizens reached the conclusion that at least one of the North Korean drones that crashed in South Korea were manufactured by a Chinese company. 4. Japan scrambled fighter jets for a third consecutive day after four Chinese military aircraft flew over Japan's Okinawa Islands and Miyako Island. 5. China’s new island base is aimed at strengthening surveillance over its self-proclaimed air defense identification zone and enhance China’s ability to respond militarily to threats in the region. 6. China parades its latest weapons to celebrate the end of World War II. Among them was a new “carrier killer” missile known as the Dong Feng 21D. 7. Japan is accusing China of heightening tensions in the East China Sea after two pairs of Chinese jets flew extremely close to two Japanese surveillance planes in separate incidents. 8. Initial estimates that China has reclaimed 2,000 acres since December 2013 are wrong, says a newly released Pentagon report. The number is in fact almost 50 percent greater. 9. Satellite imagery shows that China has created enough space on Fiery Cross Reef for a runway that is about 3,000 metres long. 10. The U.S. military plans to station B-1 strategic bombers and surveillance aircraft in Australia, according to U.S. Defence Department Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs David Shear. 11. China has unilaterally declared an "air-defense identification zone" (ADIZ) over a vast area of the East China Sea, covering disputed islands that are also claimed by Japan and Taiwan. 12. Five Chinese naval ships, including three combat ships, an amphibious ship and a replenishment ship, were spotted in international waters near the Aleutian Islands. 13. The Philippines accused China of having used water cannons last month on Filipino fishermen to drive them out of disputed waters in the South China Sea. 14. The U.S. Navy plans to sail a ship close to artificial islands built by China to signal it doesn’t recognise Beijing’s claim on the entire South China Sea. China is “seriously concerned.” 15. China’s navy issued eight demands to an American P-8A Poseidon aircraft to leave the airspace over Southeast Asia’s most dangerous flashpoint. 16. Chinese long-range bombers passed through the contested Bashi Channel in a move interpreted as pushback against U.S. involvement in the region. 17. Pentagon Chief Ash Carter has pledged to expand the U.S.’ military ties with Vietnam, beginning with millions of dollars worth of patrol boats. SUPER DEADLY Norwegian Navy Naval Strike Missile (NSM)

01:35
The Naval Strike Missile (NSM) is an anti-ship and land-attack missile developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA). The original Norwegian name was Nytt sjømålsmissil (literally New sea target missile, indicating that it is the successor of the Penguin missile); the English marketing name Naval Strike Missile was adopted later. The Naval Strike Missile's initial serial production contract was signed in June 2007.[2] It has been chosen by the Royal Norwegian Navy for its new Fridtjof Nansen class frigates and Skjold class patrol boats. In December 2008 the NSM was selected by the Polish Navy, which ordered total 50 land-based missiles (including 2 for testing) under deals from 2008 and 2011, with delivery planned for 2013-2016.[3][4][5] The final milestone was completed in June 2011 with tests at Point Mugu.[6] On 12 April 2011, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense announced phase 2 of development.[7] On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, the Royal Norwegian Navy marked history by firing an NSM anti-ship missile for the first time. The vessel in question was the HNoMS Glimt, Skjold class patrol boat.[8] On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, the Royal Norwegian Navy for the first time test fired an NSM missile carrying a live warhead against a target vessel. The decommissioned Oslo class frigate HNoMS Trondheim was hit and the weapon functioned as intended.[9][10] In June 2013 Poland completed the Coastal Missile Division equipped for the beginning with 12 NSM and 23 vehicles on Jelcz chassis (inc. six launchers, two TRS-15C radars, six fire control and three command vehicles).[11] Ultimately, the Coastal Missile Division will be equipped with 48 missiles and six launchers. It is believed, Poland is going to establish second missile division in near future. The state-of-the-art design and use of composite materials is meant to give the missile sophisticated stealth capabilities. The missile will weigh slightly more than 400 kg (880 lb) and have a range of at least 185 km (100 nm). NSM is designed for littoral waters ("brown water") as well as for open sea ("green and blue water") scenarios. Like its Penguin predecessor, NSM is able to fly over and around landmasses, travel in sea skim mode, and then make random manoeuvres in the terminal phase, making it harder to stop by enemy countermeasures. While the Penguin is a yaw-to-turn missile, NSM is based on bank-to-turn flight (see Yaw (flight) and flight control). The target selection technology provides NSM with a capacity for independent detection, recognition, and discrimination of targets at sea or on the coast. This is possible by the combination of an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker and an onboard target database. NSM is able to navigate by GPS, inertial and terrain reference systems. After being launched into the air by a solid rocket booster which is jettisoned upon burning out, the missile is propelled to its target in high subsonic speed by a turbojet sustainer engine—leaving the 125 kg multi-purpose blast/fragmentation warhead to do its work, which in case of a ship target means impacting the ship at or near the water line. A multi-role version of the NSM is in development. This missile is called Joint Strike Missile (JSM) and will feature an option for ground strike and a two-way communications line, so that the missile can communicate with the central control room or other missiles in the air. This missile will be integrated with the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II "Joint Strike Fighter". Studies have shown that the F-35 would be able to carry two of these in its internal bays, while additional missiles could be carried externally. According to Kongsberg, this "multi-role NSM" is the only powered anti-ship missile that will fit inside the F-35's internal bays.[12] Lockheed Martin and Kongsberg have signed a joint-marketing agreement for this air-launched version of the NSM, as well as an agreement committing both parties to integrating the JSM on the F-35 platform.[13][14] The project is funded by Norway and Australia.[15] Kongsberg signed a contract for the first phase of development of the JSM in April, 2009, which is scheduled for completion within 18 months.[16] Improved features for the Joint Strike Missile include: Shape changed to fit in F-35 internal bay.[17] Ability to attack sea and land based targets Aerial launch platform (F-35) Improved range over NSM to 280 km [18] Long-term, production start in 2013 The JSM will have multicore computers running Integrity real-time operating system from Green Hills Software.[19] Kongsberg is studying methods to deploy the JSM from Norway's submarines.[20] The Royal Norwegian Navy (Norwegian: Sjøforsvaret, Den Kongelige Norske Marine or informally "Marinen", often abbreviated as RNoN) is the branch of the Norwegian Armed Forces responsible for naval operations. As of 2008, the RNoN consists of approximately 3,700 personnel

U.S. Navy's Supersonic SeaRAM Anti-Ship Missile Defense System

02:31
The SeaRAM combines the radar and electro-optical system of the Phalanx CIWS Mk-15 Block 1B (CRDC) with an 11-cell RAM launcher to produce an autonomous system—one which does not need any external information to engage threats. Like the Phalanx, SeaRAM can be fitted to any class of ship. The SeaRAM system combines the superior accuracy, extended range and high maneuverability of the RAM missile with the high resolution search-and-track sensor and reliable, quick-response capability of the Phalanx Block 1B system. An 11-missile RAM system launcher assembly replaces the Phalanx system’s 20 mm gun. British Brimstone Missile - Tank Hunter Killer [HD]

18:12
Wish to donate to support my channel? - Paypal link: paypal.me/Matsimus Brimstone is an air-launched ground attack missile developed by MBDA for Britain's Royal Air Force. It was originally intended for "fire-and-forget" use against mass formations of enemy tanks and tank armour, using a millimetric wave (mmW) active radar homing seeker to ensure accuracy even against moving targets. Experience in Afghanistan led to the addition of laser guidance in the dual-mode Brimstone missile, allowing a "spotter" to pick out specific targets when friendly forces or civilians were in the area. The tandem shaped charge warhead is much more effective against modern tanks than older similar weapons such as the AGM-65G Maverick, while the small blast area minimises collateral damage. Three Brimstones are carried on a launcher that occupies a single weapon station, allowing a single aircraft to carry many missiles. After a protracted development programme, single-mode or "millimetric" Brimstone entered service with RAF Tornado aircraft in 2005, and the dual-mode variant in 2008. The latter has been extensively used in Afghanistan and Libya. An improved Brimstone 2 was expected to enter service in October 2012, but problems with the new warhead from TDW and the ROXEL rocket motor put back the planned date to November 2015. MBDA is working on the targeting of swarms of small boats under the name Sea Spear. The RAF intend to fit Brimstone to their Eurofighter Typhoons, and planned to integrate it with their Harriers until the latter were withdrawn from service in 2011. MBDA is studying the use of Brimstone on ships, attack helicopters, UAVs, and from surface launchers; it will be integrated on the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II when the F-35B enters British service. The United States, France and India have expressed interest in buying Brimstone for their aircraft, but Saudi Arabia is the only export customer as of 2015.The cost per missile has been quoted as £175,000 ($263,000) each in 2015,or 'over £100,000'. he missile was originally supposed to be an evolution of the original laser AGM-114 Hellfire, with the laser seeker replaced by a millimetre wave (mmW) seeker. During development, virtually the entire missile was redesigned, resulting in a weapon that - other than the external shape - bears no relation to the original airframe. It is unrelated to the separate development of the mmW Hellfire for the Apache Longbow. Brimstone has a Tandem Shaped Charge (TSC) warhead that employs a smaller initial charge, designed to initiate reactive armour, followed by a larger, more destructive charge, designed to penetrate and defeat the base armour. It has been estimated that Brimstone will be 3 times more effective than the AGM-65G Maverick missile against modern tanks, and 7 times more effective than the BL755 cluster bomb. In combat Brimstone has demonstrated accuracy and reliability "both well above 90 percent" according to the MoD Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton has said that 98.3% to 98.7% of Brimstone fired in Libya "did exactly what we expected". Worlds MOST POWERFUL ship says hello to NATO with anti ship missiles

02:39
The Russian Navy (Russian: Военно-морской Флот Российской Федерации (ВМФ России), tr. Voyenno-morskoy Flot Rossiyskoy Federatsii (VMF Rossii), lit. Military-Maritime Fleet of the Russian Federation) is the naval arm of the Russian military. The present Russian Navy was formed in January 1992, succeeding the Navy of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which had itself succeeded the Soviet Navy following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991. The regular Russian Navy was established by Peter the Great (Peter I) in October 1696. Ascribed to Peter I is the oft quoted statement: "A ruler that has but an army has one hand, but he who has a navy has both." The symbols of the Russian Navy, the St. Andrew's flag and ensign (seen to the right), and most of its traditions were established personally by Peter I. Neither Jane's Fighting Ships nor the International Institute for Strategic Studies list any standard ship prefixes for the vessels of the Russian Navy. For official U.S. Navy photographs, they are sometimes referred to as "RFS"—"Russian Federation Ship". However, the Russian Navy does not use this convention for itself. The Russian Navy possesses the vast majority of the former Soviet naval forces, and currently comprises the Northern Fleet, the Russian Pacific Fleet, the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Russian Baltic Fleet, the Russian Caspian Flotilla, Naval Aviation, and the coastal troops (consisting of the naval infantry and the coastal missile and artillery troops). A recently approved rearmament program has placed the development of the navy on an equal footing with the strategic nuclear forces for the first time in Soviet and Russian history. The program, covering the period until 2015, is expected to see the replacement of 45 percent of the inventory of the Russian Navy.[3] Out of 4.9 trillion rubles ($192.16 billion) allocated for military rearmament, 25 percent will go into building new ships. "We are already building practically as many ships as we did in Soviet times," First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said during a visit to Severodvinsk in July 2007, "The problem now is not lack of money, but how to optimize production so that the navy can get new ships three, not five, years after laying them down."[4] The Russian Navy suffered severely since the dissolution of the Soviet Union due to insufficient maintenance, lack of funding and subsequent effects on the training of personnel and timely replacement of equipment. Another setback is attributed to Russia's domestic shipbuilding industry which is reported to have been in decline as to their capabilities of constructing contemporary hardware efficiently. Some analysts even say that because of this Russia's naval capabilities have been facing a slow but certain "irreversible collapse".[5][6] Some analysts say that the recent rise in gas and oil prices has enabled a sort of renaissance of the Russian Navy due to increased available funds, which may allow Russia to begin "developing the capacity to modernize".[7] In August 2014, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russian naval capabilities would be bolstered with new weapons and equipment within the next six years in response to NATO deployments in eastern Europe and recent developments in Ukraine.[8]

http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=5642659 --------------- Iran Mass Producing New Anti-Ship Missiles Iran is mass producing a new ballistic missile that can travel at more than three times the speed of sound and hit targets on the high seas, top commanders said on Feb. 7. Cmdr. Mohammad Ali Jafari, who heads the elite military force, the Revolutionary Guards, said the missile - named "Persian Gulf" - had a range of 300 kilometers. Related Topics Middle East & Africa Air Warfare "Iran is mass producing a smart ballistic missile for sea targets with a speed three times more than the speed of sound," state news agency IRNA quoted Jafari as saying about the new missile. He said the missile was "undetectable and can't be neutralized by enemies," without specifying the name. "It has very high precision in destroying targets," Jafari added. "As the enemy's threats will likely come from the sea, air and by missiles, the Guards have been equipped with capabilities to neutralize the enemy's advanced technology," he said, according to another Iranian news agency, ISNA. Iran's missile and space programs have sparked concern in the West that such advanced technologies, combined with the nuclear know-how which the nation is acquiring, may enable Tehran to produce an atomic weapon. Tehran denies its nuclear program has military aims. The new missile can be fired "from surface ballistically and can hit enemy vessels from a high altitude," Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Guards' air force wing told Fars news agency. "The missile is named Persian Gulf ... its warhead will carry 650 kilograms of explosives," he said, adding that the missile was powered by solid fuel and designed by the Guards. Footage on state television showed the missile being fired atop a mobile launcher from a desert terrain. The announcement of the new missile comes as Iran holds celebrations to mark the 32nd anniversary of its Islamic revolution that toppled the U.S.-backed shah. Iran uses the run-up to the Feb. 11 anniversary to tout its scientific and technological achievements. In a separate function, Iran unveiled four new home-built satellites and engines of a rocket. Meanwhile the head of naval Guards' naval forces, Ali Fadavi, issued a warning that Iran will hit back if it came under attack. "The Islamic republic has the ability of blocking the Strait of Hormuz if threatened," Fadavi told Mehr news agency. "We will deliver a very firm response if any powers do the slightest thing to hurt the security of the region." Iranian military officials regularly warn of blocking the Strait of Hormuz - the route through which 40 percent of world's oil supply by sea passes - in case Iran comes under attack.

Crouching Tiger: China's "Carrier Killer" Missile Strikes the 2016 Presidential Election

04:20
Can China really hit an American aircraft carrier zigzagging at 30 knots with a missile launched from a thousand miles away? This episode in the Crouching Tiger Project series examines the implications of China's anti-ship ballistic missile for the 2016 Presidential election debate. Toshi Yoshihara of the US Naval War College and Free Beacon Senior Editor Bill Gertz explain the stark mechanics of the anti-ship ballistic missile – from initial firing to possible mission kill. Dean Cheng of the Heritage Foundation together with Bernard Cole and T.X. Hammes from National Defense University then illuminate the various difficulties of hitting a carrier at sea – says Cheng “even at a hundred tons, it’s ‘big sea, small ship.’” Richard Fisher of International Assessment and Strategy concludes with a chillingly logical explanation of the strategic challenge the “pernicious” anti-ship ballistic missile poses for any new leader in the White House. Says Fisher: “We are less able to deter attacks from this conventional weapon with our nuclear forces” and therefore “China will be more tempted to use this weapon against our forces because it has less of a fear of American retaliation. This is how wars start. This is how miscalculations take place.”

Marte Mk2/N Missile

00:55
Marte Mk2/N is a direct derivative of the proven and in service Marte Mk2/S helicopter-launched anti-ship weapon system, both variants deploying the same Marte Mk2 missile. Marte Mk2/N has an effective range in excess of 30km and is a fire-and-forget, all-weather sea skimming missile. It possesses inertial mid-course navigation through way points and active radar terminal homing. The system also incorporates a mission planning function to optimise operations. The missile fits very neatly into the spectrum of naval anti-shop weapons systems; medium calibre guns for short-range, Marte Mk2/N for medium range operations lying within the detection capability of the ship’s own sensors and MBDA’s OTOMAT/TESEO or Exocet MM40 Block 3 for long range. With no need for supporting airborne detection and unlike a helicopter with anti-ship weapons, a vessel armed with Marte Mk2/N can stay on-station for extended periods. Marte ER missile on Eurofighter

02:27
Marte ER represents the third generation within the Marte family of missile systems and is directly derived from Marte MK2/S which is already in service with the Italian Navy on its NFH90 and AW101 helicopters. The main difference between the two missiles is the introduction of a turbo engine in place of the rocket motor which increases the missile’s operational capacity. Marte ER due to be integrated on board the Eurofighter Typhoon and other fast jets. Marte ER’s design takes into account that Marte MK2/S is already qualified and installed on NFH90 and AW101 helicopters, which offers the following advantages: - Same mechanical, electrical and functional helicopter interfaces. - No platform hardware changes required to manage the Marte Er missile, only software changes to the Store Management System (SMS) are required to manage longer range performance. - The helicopter, with the new version of SMS software, is able to operate both Marte MK2/S and Marte ER missiles. - Same logistic support, in terms of benches, trolley and most handling & maintenance tools and schedule Web site : http://www.mbda-systems.com LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/company/164883/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/byMBDA

New Chinese «USA Killer» (ICBM DF-41) mobile missile system spotted during road testing The new-generation mobile missile system has been spotted testing in China. The video shows new long-range ballistic missile mounted on a heavy truck. American experts report that this DF-41 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and estimate the DF-41 to be an 80-ton, three-stage solid-fuel missile capable of carrying between six and 10 nuclear warheads. The DF-41 can carry from one to 10 nuclear warheads with yields ranging from 250 kilotons to one megaton. This missile is being called the “USA Killer” because it places all the U.S. at China’s mercy. The first information about the new generation Chinese ballistic missile – which according to the Washington Free Beacon is capable of reaching any location within the US – emerged in the American media in July 2014. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the Chinese military staged its previous DF-41 ballistic missile test launch on December 5, 2015, when a missile was launched from a container mounted on a special railroad car. China is estimated to have 260 nuclear warheads, with an unknown number of them active and ready to deploy. U.S. intelligence in 2013 estimated the Chinese active ICBM arsenal to range between 50 and 75 land- and sea-based missiles. China and Russia are Building Lots of Ship Killer Missiles The Navy Has Plans to Counter Them

05:10
The U.S. Navy and numerous NATO partners are firing a new, high-tech ship defense weapon that can identify, track and attack maneuvering anti-ship missiles with an active seeker enabling the missile to change course in flight, service officials said. The Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile Block II, or ESSM, is a new version of an existing Sea Sparrow weapons system currently protecting aircraft carriers, destroyers, cruisers, amphibious assault ships and other vessels against anti-ship missiles and other surface and airborne short-range threats to ships. The recent live-fire test follows the successful completion of two Controlled Test Vehicle flight tests in June 2017 and is the first in a series of live fire tests that will lead to the ESSM Block 2 missile entering production, Naval Sea Systems Command spokesman Alan Baribeau told Warrior Maven. The ESSM Block 2 live-fire exercise marked the first use of the weapon’s active seeker system, emerging technology which enables the missile achieve improved flight guidance to its target by both receiving and actively sending electromagnetic signals, Navy officials said. The ESSM uses radar technology to locate and then intercept a fast-approaching target while in flight; the use of what’s called an “illuminator” is a big part of this capability, Raytheon developers told Warrior Maven in prior interviews. The current ESSM missiles use what’s called a semi-active guidance system, meaning the missile itself can receive electromagnetic signals bounced off the target by an illuminator; the ESSM Block 2’s “active” guidance includes illuminator technology built onto the missile itself such that it can both receive and send important electromagnetic signals, Navy and Raytheon officials explained. Block 2 relieves the missile from the requirement of having to use a lot of illuminator guidance from the ship as a short-range self-defense, senior Navy officials have said. A shipboard illuminator is an RF signal that bounces off a target, Raytheon weapons developers have explained. The antenna in the nose in the guidance section [of the missile] sees the reflected energy and then corrects to intercept that reflective energy, the Raytheon official added. The emerging missile has an “active” front end, meaning it can send an electromagnetic signal forward to track a maneuvering target, at times without needing a ship-based illuminator for guidance. Also, the missile is able to intercept threats that are close to the surface by sea-skimming or diving in onto a target from a higher altitude, Navy officials explained. The so-called kinematic or guidance improvements of the Block 2 missile give it an improved ability to counter maneuvering threats, Navy and Raytheon officials said. ESSM Block 2 is being jointly acquired by the U.S. and a number of allied countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, The Netherlands, Norway and Turkey. All these countries signed an ESSM Block 2 Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, designed to solidify the developmental path for the missile system through it next phase. The weapon is slated to be fully operational on ships by 2020. The collaborative mission, according to the text of US Dept. of State’s ESSM Block 2 2014 Memorandum of Understanding with participating nations, is to “cooperatively design, develop, test and evaluate an upgraded ESSM that employs a dual mode X-band active and semi-active guidance capability, leveraging existing technology to the maximum extent practicable.” U.S. Navy weapons developers are working closely with NATO allies to ensure the weapon is properly operational across the alliance of countries planning to deploy the weapon. The ESSM Block 2 weapon is part of what Navy officials describe as a layered defense system, referring to an integrated series of weapons, sensors and interceptors designed to detect and destroy a wide-range of incoming threats from varying distances. SEA TARGET | FRENCH EXOCET MISSILE COMPILATION || WARTHOG 2016

05:39
The Exocet (French for "flying fish"[1]) is a French-built anti-ship missile whose various versions can be launched from surface vessels, submarines, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The missile's name was given by M. Guillot, then the technical director at Nord Aviation.[1] It is the French word for flying fish from the Latin name exocoetus, a transliteration of the Greek name for flying fish ἐξώκοιτος (exōkoitos), which literally means "lying down outside (ἒξω, κεῖμαι), sleeping outside", because it sometimes stranded itself in boats.[2] The Exocet is built by MBDA, a European missile company. Development began in 1967 by Nord as a ship-launched weapon named the MM 38. A few years later Aerospatiale and Nord merged. The basic body design was based on the Nord AS30 air to ground tactical missile. The air-launched Exocet was developed in 1974 and entered service with the French Navy five years later.[3]

TOP 5 CRUISE MISSILES IN THE WORLD

07:17
INTRODUCTION Cruise missiles are designed to deliver a large warhead over long distances with high precision. Modern cruise missiles are capable of travelling at supersonic or high subsonic speeds, are self-navigating, and are able to fly on a non-ballistic, extremely low-altitude trajectory making them hard to detect. In this video, Defense Updates looks at top 5 cruise missiles in the world. Lets get started. BRITISH, FRENCH AND ITALIAN STORM SHADOW Storm Shadow is a British, French and Italian low-observable air-launched cruise missile, manufactured by MBDA. The missile has a range of approximately 560 km (300 nautical miles) and is powered by a turbojet, which enables it to travel at Mach 0.8. The missile is intended to strike high-valued assets such as airbases, radar installations, communications hubs and surface ships. The Storm Shadow is capable of engaging the targets precisely in any weather conditions during day and night. The long range and low attitude combined with high subsonic speed make it a very effective. The missile follows a path semi-autonomously, on a low flight path guided by GPS and terrain mapping to the target area. Close to the target, the missile climbs and then moves into a dive. The missile is fitted with a two-stage bomb royal ordnance augmented charge blast penetrator warhead. The first stage of the warhead makes the way for the second stage by cutting the surface of the target. The larger second stage main warhead then penetrates into the target and detonates. UNITED STATES TOMAHAWK The Tomahawk Land Attack Missile is a long-range, all-weather, subsonic cruise missile that is primarily used by the United States and United Kingdom. The missile went it service in 1983 and it has been upgraded several times with many enhancements, which includes guidance systems for precision navigation. The latest variant is the Block 4 introduced in 2006 has a range of 1,700 km (1,000 mi) It can carry different types of payloads, which includes high explosive or nuclear warheads. RUSSIAN P-800 ONIKS The P-800 Oniks also known in export markets as Yakhont is a Russian supersonic cruise missile developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya. It is very much like the Moskit missile that it replaced, albeit slightly smaller. It carries a 550-pound warhead, and tops out at about Mach 2.6. Navigation system includes both inertial guidance and active-passive radar seeker head, which makes the missile essentially autonomous once it's launched as well as very accurate. It has firing range up to 300 km (186 miles) with the ability to skim along less than 30 feet above the ocean's surface. It is touted to even possess onboard EW countermeasures; making it very hard to jam. It carries a 250 kg (551 lb) semi-armor piercing High explosive warhead. Recently the missile was used in Syria. It was launched at a rebel-held warehouse that as per Russia was being used to store weapons. RUSSIAN 3M-54 Kalibr The 3M-54 Kalibr anti ship and land attack cruise missiles developed by the Novator Design Bureau of Russia The missile is a modular system with five versions: two anti-shipping types, one for land attack and two anti-submarine types. The missile is designed to share common parts between the surface and submarine-launched variants but each missile consists of different components, for example, the booster. The missile flies at sub-sonic speeds but perform a supersonic sprint in the terminal approach to the target, reducing the time that target's defense systems have to react. The anti ship variant has a range of 660 km whereas the land attack version has claimed range of 2500 km. It can carry 500 kg conventional or nuclear warhead. It is also capable of performing very high angled defensive high-speed maneuvers. INDO- RUSSIA BRAHMOS It is the world's fastest cruise missile in operation and flies at about 3 Mach that is 3 times the speed of sound. It has a two-stage propulsion system, with a solid-propellant rocket for initial acceleration and a liquid-fuelled ramjet responsible for sustained supersonic cruise. This speed gives it the lots of kinetic energy to obliterate the target. In tests, Brahmos has ripped off ships in half. The missile is has current declared range of 450 km but its actual range is much higher as per many analysts. It carries a 200 kg (440 lb) conventional semi-armor-piercing and nuclear warhead. Brahmos is very accurate. During one of the tests, the missile was able to distinguish between groups of buildings in an urban environment and hit the designated target. Also, it’s the only missile in the world that can maneuver at supersonic speeds. The Block-III missile can dive on the target from the top at an angle of 75 degree.

Japan Just Launched A New Destroyer And Its A Missile Killer

06:22
japan has launched a new destroyer, and China isn't happy about it. On Monday, Tokyo launched the first of two new 27DDG-class destroyers. The ceremony was held at Japan Marine United’s shipyard at Isogo Ward in Yokohama, south of Tokyo. According to Defense News , Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera also attended the launching. The first 27DDG-class destroyer, called Maya, is 170 meters long and displaces 8,200 tons. It is primarily designed to enhance Japan's ballistic missile defense capabilities. The ship is equipped with the Aegis Baseline J7 combat system, which is the Japanese version of the Aegis Baseline 9/BMD 5.1 standard. It also has the Northrop Grumman AN/SPQ-9B radar system. As Defense News notes, the AN/SPQ-9B radar system “provides the capability to detect and track low-flying, high-speed, low-observable anti-ship missile targets in heavy-clutter environments.” Eventually, Maya and its sister ship will be armed with the SM-3 Block IIA missile that Japan and the United States are currently co-developing. The most advanced version of the SM-3 missile, the Block IIAs, are wider and can thus hold more fuel than earlier variants. This allows them to travel faster and further than their predecessors. REUTERS/Thomas Peter Furthermore, CSIS's Missile Threat project notes that “the Block IIA also incorporates a more sensitive sensor seeker, more divert capability, and longer operating time for its upgraded kill vehicle.” The missile is still undergoing testing. Tokyo is also planning on using the Block IIA for its new Aegis Ashore land-based system. Most notably, the two ships will also be equipped with the Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC). As the U.S. Navy explains : “Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) is a real-time sensor netting system that enables high quality situational awareness and integrated fire control capability. It is designed to enhance the anti-air warfare (AAW) capability of U.S. Navy ships, U.S. Navy aircraft and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Composite Tracking Network (CTN) units by the netting of geographically dispersed sensors to provide a single integrated air picture, thus enabling Integrated Fire Control to destroy increasingly capable threat cruise missiles and aircraft.” In other words, ships equipped with CEC system serve as sensor and radar hubs with greater connectivity that allows for seamless cooperation across an extended battlefield. Thus, for example, the system could identify the ship that is best positioned to take out an air threat, improving efficiency. In addition, the ship or aircraft trying to intercept the missile or aircraft can rely on radar provided by another ship. This is true even against maneuverable warheads where the interceptors need to be repositioned in flight. As an analysis by Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, which helped develop the CEC system with Raytheon, puts it, “With the combination of precision gridlock, very low time delay, and very high update rate, a combatant may fire a missile and guide it to intercept a target, even a maneuvering one, using radar data from another CEC unit even if it never acquires the target with its own radars.” Of course, Japan’s CEC destroyers will be able to link into a network with U.S. ships equipped with the same capability. Nor are they alone. Australia is installing a CEC system on at least one of its cruisers. This will naturally increase integration between their navies and act as a force multiplier. All of this has got China nervous. Ahead of the Maya’s launch, the Global Times, a party-run tabloid, published an article titled “Japan destroyer with US air defense system threatens region.” Zhang Junshe, a senior research fellow at a People’s Liberation Army think tank, told the Global Times that the "CEC will strengthen intelligence data sharing with the US and strengthen their military alliance." The Navy's New Columbia-Class Missile Submarine: A Stealth Killer?

10:18
The Columbia class is to be equipped with an electric-drive propulsion train, as opposed to the mechanical-drive propulsion train used on other Navy submarines. “The electric-drive system is expected to be quieter (i.e., stealthier) than a mechanical-drive system,” a Congressional Research Service report on Columbia-Class submarines from earlier this year states. Designed to be 560-feet– long and house 16 Trident II D5 missiles fired from 44-foot-long missile tubes, Columbia-Class submarines will use a quieting X-shaped stern configuration. Israel deploys ‘Star Wars’ missile killer systems

00:41
For story suggestions please contact [email protected] Israel has upgraded its missile defense system so that the country can be protected from the ground to outer space. The latest addition, the Arrow 3, became operational on Wednesday. The system has a range up to 2,400 km and can be used as an anti-satellite weapon. It was co-developed by Israel Aerospace Industries and Boeing Co. The bottom tier of Israel’s missile defence system is the Iron Dome interceptor, which is designed to destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired up to 70 km away. The second tier of the system is David’s Sling, which is designed to shoot down mid-range, lower-altitude missiles. The Arrow 2 is designed to intercept missiles in low to high atmosphere. With the Arrow 3 missile system, Israel and the United States may be the only countries that have the capability of shooting down targets in space. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Anti-ship missiles are guided #missiles that are designed for use against ships and large boats. Most anti-ship missiles are of the sea skimming variety, and many use a combination of inertial guidance and active #radar homing. A good number of other anti-ship missiles use infrared homing to follow the heat that is emitted by a ship; it is also possible for anti-ship missiles to be guided by radio command all the way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_anti-ship_missiles#Iran #Raad – Indigenously developed long-range anti-ship missile based on HY-2 Silkworm. #Noor – upgraded copy of Chinese C-802. #Tondar – upgraded copy of Chinese C-801. HOW KINZHAL MISSILE MAKES THE SUKHOI SU 57 EVEN MORE DEADLY?

04:38
INTRODUCTION The Sukhoi Su-57 has been in news for some time now. It is the successor of Su 35 and Russia’s answer to American F 35 Lightning II and F 22 Raptor. Now Su 57 will be armed with a deadly new weapon. It’s the Kinzhal hypersonic missile. SU 57 along with MIG-31K interceptor are expected to armed with Kinzhal missile during the Russian military’s Army-2018 Forum taking place from August 21 to 23 at the Kubinka airfield outside Moscow. This means that Russia has successfully integrated the Kinzhal missile with Su 57. In this video, Defense Updates analyzes how Kinzhal missile makes the Sukhoi Su 57 even more deadly? Let's get started. SU 57 CAPABILITIES The Sukhoi Su-57 is the 5th generation, stealthy, single-seat, twin-engine jet multirole fighter aircraft designed for air superiority and ground attack operations. The Su-57 is the first operational aircraft in Russian Air Force service to use stealth technology. Weapons are carried internally in weapons bays within the airframe and antennas are recessed from the surface of the skin to preserve the aircraft’s stealthy shape. Also, radar-absorbent material (RAM) has been used to reduce its radar return which makes it difficult to detect. Su 57 is designed to have extreme maneuverability at both supersonic and subsonic speed which is made possible by its 3D thrust vectoring. It can supercruise with the ability to reach speeds up to Mach 2 without an afterburner. With its onboard Belka radar station consisting of 5 radars, provides Su 57 with 360-degree coverage. The Su-57 is speculated to have the ability to detect ‘stealth’ aircraft and track over 10 targets simultaneously using IRST. It has 2 large internal weapons compartments, taking up practically the entire useful length of the aircraft which are capable of carrying a multitude of air to air and air to ground weapons. The aircraft can also carry weapons on external hardpoints and this is where the Kinzhal missile will be hooked. KINZHAL CAPABILITIES Kinzhal air-launched hypersonic missile was first disclosed by President Putin during state-of-nation address recently. In the presentation video, a MiG-31 Foxhound interceptor was shown to be carrying and releasing it. Computer generated animation during Putin’s speech showed Kinzhal attacking naval warships, though it also reportedly has a land-attack capability. It reportedly has a range of approximately 1,250 miles or 2000 km and a top speed of more than 10 times the speed of sound i.e. Mach 10. It is also capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. The weapon’s speed coupled with the ability to fly erratically makes the Kinzal almost impossible to intercept. According to President Putin, the missile has been deployed operationally in units in the country’s Southern Military District. ANALYSIS Su 57 is a potent adversary for any rival. Kinzhal provides it with long reach and immense destructive power. This will enable Su 57 to target naval assets and tactical land installations in an effective manner from a standoff distance. Importantly Kinzhal’s high warhead payload and speed will allow it to take out even hardened targets. The current crop of radars and missile systems will find it very hard to defend against this combination. For example, the Sea Ceptor anti-missile defense system onboard Britain’s latest Queen Elizabeth–class carriers can only intercept targets traveling up to Mach 3, that too in ideal situations. Kinzal with Su 57 will be a major headache for Russia’s rival in coming days if deployed in decent numbers. Do let us know your thoughts in the comment section below. Defending against China's DF-21D 'carrier-killer' missile

00:53
Admiral Jonathan Greenert, the chief of US naval operations, told reporters on Friday there are a number of methods the US Navy would use to defend against China's Dong Feng (East Wind) 21D carrier-killer missile, which the US believes has reached "initial operating capability," well before the missile got close to a carrier group. The DF-21D, the world's first ballistic anti-ship missile, carries a conventional warhead and is fired from land-based launchers. China says the DF-21D has a range of 1,700 miles. INDIA reply to China concern: Another missile test KILLER K-4 SLBM range 3500km

03:42
Amidst rising concern of China over successful test firing of ICBM Agni-V, India is contemplating a fresh test of its longest range submarine-launched ballistic missile, code named K-4, which is capable of delivering nuclear warhead over 3,500 km away.Sources said, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is planning to conduct the test from an undersea platform in the Bay of Bengal by month-end. “The platform is being readied for the test. If everything goes as per the programme, the weapon system, which has caught the attention of enemy nations, will be tested as per schedule,” the source told ‘The Express’ on Sunday. Though it is yet to be known whether the test would be conducted from a submerged pontoon (replica of a submarine) or the indigenously developed submarine INS Arihant, it would be from a platform nearly 30 feet deep in the sea. Once the platform is ready, movement of tracking systems and Naval ships to the area of mission will be made, the source informed. This would be third test of the missile even as none of the tests has officially been revealed. The DRDO, which has designed and developed the missile, had kept the project secret till its first test in March 2014. The missile, world’s best in this class, will have to undergo a couple of more developmental trials before being inducted in the armed forces. The intermediate range submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) is about 12 metres tall with a diameter of 1.3. It weighs around 17 tonnes and can carry a warhead weighing up to 2,000 kg. The missile is powered by solid rocket propellant. “This time an advanced variant of the missile will be tested to validate new technologies incorporated in the system. The test would be for a higher range also,” the source added.
