I like the proposal for the military to get involved in education. It's just shame that the respect for teachers and adults in general from children has diminished to such an extent. I'm not suggesting children should be seen and not heard but a bit of order in schools would be to the benefit of all concerned.

Japanese people are known for their intelligence, politeness, and wellness. Why is this nation so unique and different from the rest of the world? It seems we’ve found the answer – they have an incredibly cool education system and unique teaching methods! There is a unique method in Japanese schools for developing creativity in kids. We believe that the whole world needs to adopt it! It’s called “Nameless paints.” In this video, we'll tell you how it works. Watch till the end – there is a small but brilliant bonus for you. As you can see, the spots are also different sizes. - In Japanese schools, students don’t take any exams until they reach grade four (the age of 10). The goal for the first three years of school is not to judge the child’s knowledge, but to establish good manners and to develop their character. - While most schools in the world begin their academic year in September or October, in Japan, it is April that marks the start of the academic and business calendar. The first day of school often coincides with one of the most beautiful natural phenomena — the time of cherry blossom. - In Japanese schools, students have to clean the classrooms, cafeterias, and even toilets all by themselves. Most Japanese schools do not employ janitors or custodians. - All classmates eat in their classroom together with the teacher. This helps build positive teacher-student relationships. - To get into a good junior high school, most Japanese students enter a preparatory school or attend private after-school workshops. - Japanese calligraphy, or Shodo, involves dipping a bamboo brush in ink and using it to write hieroglyphs on rice paper. - While some schools have their attire, traditional Japanese school uniform consists of a military style for boys and a sailor outfit for girls. - At the end of high school, Japanese students have to take an exam that determines their future. A student can choose one college they would like to go to, and that college has a particular score requirement. - Having gone through ‘examination hell,’ Japanese students usually take a little break. In this country, college is often considered the best years of a person’s life. Sometimes, Japanese people call this period a ‘vacation’ before work. While school punishment may have come a long way from whacks with a wooden ruler, some schools have come up with some pretty severe punishments. While it is almost impossible to say a single nation’s schools are the best in the world, one country that consistently performs extremely well on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) exams for math, reading and science, may come as a surprise to many. Finland, a tiny nation of 5.5 million people, consistently makes the top 5 performers across those categories, making it the top educational performer in Europe and one of the strongest in the world. Whatever you need a website for, create yours today with Wix: https://www.wix.com/go/infographics We’ll start today’s show with a bit of a disclaimer. We understand that all European kids from all 50 European countries and transnational nations can’t all be lumped into one. That’s not our objective today. What we will try to do is take a look at how kids from some European countries compare to American kids in certain respects. How are their lifestyles different, how is schooling different, what kinds of habits do they have, who seems to have a better standard of living, who gets arrested more, who drinks alcohol with abandon and is not yet out of their teenage years, who gets married young or has kids at a young age? Things like that, and more. So, without further ado, welcome to this episode of the Infographics Show, American Kids vs European Kids. This native brother's story made me feel some type of way :'( This is why I will do my *BEST* to preserve, *and save*, my native heritage! I'll pass it down to future generations to come. Ain't *NOBODY* killing the indian in US! ------------------------------------- The choices seemed simple and stark to the reformer movement — either kill all the Indians or assimilate them into white civilization through education. Popular press reports about events like Ponca Chief Standing Bear's desperate attempt to return from Oklahoma to his ancestral homelands in Nebraska to bury his dead son captured the sympathies of the nation. Boarding schools were set up to “kill the Indian and save the man.” Tribal languages and cultures were discouraged. Sherman High School in Riverside California is one of the last. So, even before the Civil War, reformers had pushed the federal government to begin an assimilation policy of educating Indians. By the 1860s, the federal government set up 48 "day schools" near some of the reservations. Indian students would travel off the reservations, attend school and return home. The reformers hoped that this system would allow the students to civilize their parents, as well, by sharing what they were learning. Just the opposite happened — parents were perfectly capable of teaching their children tribal languages, cultures and belief systems, despite the efforts of the schools. The lessons of the day were obliterated at night by the realities of communal tribal living. In the late 1870s, the reformers tried a new experiment — reservation boarding schools. The idea was that students would live all week in the boarding schools that were built a little farther away from the reservations. But as time went by, the families simply moved their tee pees closer to the schools. ----------------------------------------- The students were extremely homesick. Their long hair was cut. One boarding school student, Lone Wolf of the Blackfoot tribe, remembered: "[Long hair] was the pride of all Indians. The boys, one by one, would break down and cry when they saw their braids thrown on the floor. All of the buckskin clothes had to go and we had to put on the clothes of the White Man. If we thought the days were bad, the nights were much worse. This is when the loneliness set in, for it was when we knew that we were all alone. Many boys ran away from the school because the treatment was so bad, but most of them were caught and brought back by the police." The students were thrown into a military style regimentation of classes and activities. They were up at the call of a bugle at 5:45 a.m. with exercise and military drills following. Breakfast was at 6:45. Industrial work began at 8:00 and formal school at 9:00. After lunch there was more industrial work and school with lectures into the evening. There was less than an hour of free time during each day, and the students were in bed at 9:00 p.m. Students were prohibited from speaking their native languages. Instead, they were supposed to converse and even think in English. If they were caught "speaking Indian" they were severely beaten with a leather belt. Students were taught to hate who they were born to be. Ojibwe student Merta Bercier wrote: "Did I want to be an Indian? After looking at the pictures of the Indians on the warpath — fighting, scalping women and children, and Oh! Such ugly faces. No! Indians were mean people — I'm glad I'm not an Indian, I thought." Between 1880 and 1902, 25 off-reservation boarding schools were built and 20,000 to 30,000 Native American children went through the system. That was roughly 10 percent of the total Indian population in 1900.

Watch more Housekeeping Tips videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/310649-How-to-Make-a-Bed-Military-Style Making your bed is easy; avoiding the urge to climb on in is the tough part. Follow these steps for a snug and secure night's sleep. Step 1: Place the fitted sheet on the mattress Place the fitted sheet on the bed by securing the corner elastic under the corners of the mattress. Tuck all of the edges of the sheet tightly around and under the mattress. Step 2: Place the top sheet over the fitted sheet Lay the top sheet over the fitted sheet, with the sheet's top edge even with the top of the mattress. Be sure that the sides of the sheet hang evenly over each side of the mattress. Tip Place the edge of the sheet with the longer hem – about 2 inches wide – at the head of the bed. Step 3: Tuck the bottom of the sheet under mattress Lift the bottom of the mattress with one hand and tuck the bottom of the sheet between the box spring and the mattress with your other hand. Be sure that the edges of the sheet lay flat under the mattress. Tip Use a long-handled wooden spoon to tightly tuck the sheet if you have trouble lifting the mattress. Step 4: Create a diagonal fold at the corner of top sheet Lift the top sheet about a foot away from the foot of the bed on the bedside. Pull straight up to form a diagonal fold and lay the fold flat on top of the bed. Step 5: Tuck the corner and the diagonal fold Tuck the piece that is hanging from the corner under the mattress. Smooth the diagonal fold down over the side of the bed, and tightly tuck it under the mattress. Step 6: Tuck the sheet to the top of the bed Tuck the side of the top sheet securely under the edge of the bed. Tip Don't tuck in the last foot of the sheet near the head of the bed. Fold the top side of the sheet down to form a nice, crisp edge. Step 7: Repeat steps on the other side of mattress Do the same on the other side of the mattress, keeping the sheet pulled tight. Center your pillow at the head of the bed and look forward to a good night's sleep. Did You Know? In 2009, a hotel chain sponsored the World's Biggest Bed Jump. Thousands of people in four different cities jumped on giant 50- by 33-foot-beds for over 16 hours.

What ever happened to letting "boys be boys?" Take these two cases: In one, a seven-year-old boy was sent home for nibbling a Pop Tart into a gun. In another, a teacher was so alarmed by a picture drawn by a student (of a sword fight), that the boy's parents were summoned in for a conference. In short, boys in America's schools are routinely punished for being active, competitive, and restless. In other words, boys can no longer be boys. Christina Hoff Sommers, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, explains how we can change this. Donate today to PragerU! http://l.prageru.com/2ylo1Yt Joining PragerU is free! Boys tend to be disorganized and restless. Some have even been known to be noisy and hard to manage. Sound like any boy you know? But increasingly, our schools have little patience for what only a couple of decades ago would have been described as “boyishness.” As psychologist Michael Thompson has aptly observed: “Girls behavior is the gold standard in schools. Boys are treated like defective girls.” As a result, these “defective girls” are not faring well academically. Compared with girls, boys earn lower grades, win fewer honors they’re are far less likely to go to college. Boys are languishing academically, while girls are prospering. In an ever more knowledge-based economy, this is not a recipe for a successful society. We need to start thinking about how we can make our grade school classrooms more boy-friendly. Well, here are four reforms that would make a very good start. 1. Turn boys into readers. In all age groups, across all ethnic lines, boys score lower than girls on national reading tests. Good reading skills -- need I say? -- are critical to academic and workplace success. A major study in the UK discovered, not surprisingly, that girls prefer fiction, magazines, and poetry while boys prefer comics and non-fiction. Boys whose eyes glaze over if forced to read Little House on the Prairie may be riveted by the Guinness Book of Records. Boys will read if given materials that interest them. If you’re looking for suggestions for books that have proved irresistible to boys go to guysread.com. 2. Inspire the male imagination. Celebrated writing instructor Ralph Fletcher contends that too many teachers take what is called “the confessional poet” as the classroom ideal. Personal narratives full of emotions and self-disclosure -- these are stories girls commonly write -- and these are prized; whereas action stories describing, say, a skateboard competition or a monster devouring a city, these are not. I recently read about a third-grader in Southern California named Justin who loved science-fiction, pirates, and battles. An alarmed teacher summoned his parents to school to discuss the picture the 8-year-old had drawn of a sword fight -- which included several decapitated heads. The teacher expressed grave “concern” about Justin’s “values.” The boy’s father was astonished, not by his son’s drawing which to him was typical boy stuff, but by the teacher’s overwrought -- and female-centered -- reaction. If boys are constantly subject to disapproval for their interests and enthusiasms they are likely to become disengaged and lag further behind. Our schools need to work with, not against, the kinetic imaginations of boys. For the complete script, visit https://www.prageru.com/videos/war-boys

Today Craig finishes up our series on U.S. Government and Politics by talking about both the least and most important aspect of government: foreign policy. Foreign policy is important because it has the potential to affect the largest number of people, but at the same time, it tends to play a minimal role in our perception of the government (unless we’re at war). Foreign policy addresses diplomacy, security, human rights, economics, and the environment at a global scale, and we’re going to talk about how our government has approached each of these policies in the past and which it tends to hold most important. As with all things political, the decisions made in fulfilling these policies can be pretty controversial, especially when considering that the President often has the last word in these issues. We hope this series has helped you better understand the way the U.S. government works and hopefully encouraged you to participate in the political process - here or wherever you may live. In this video i will talk about Facts About Japanese Schools In Hindi. They say education is the foundation of society—and since Japanese and American societies are different in many ways, it may not surprise you that aspects of the two countries’ educational systems are like chalk and cheese. To find out just how different learning your ABCs (or あいうs) can be in the U.S. and Japan, study up on these nine things that are commonplace in Japanese public schools, but probably wouldn’t fly in America. 1. Dress Code While only about 20 percent of public schools in the U.S. require uniforms, nearly all Japanese public school students suit up from junior high school on. The traditional uniform is a high-collared, black, military-style suit for boys and a beribboned sailor blouse and pleated skirt for girls (sorry ladies, there’s no pants option). These as-seen-in-anime styles are still the norm for middle school students, but the high school uniform is gradually being replaced by the tartan skirts and trousers with ties typical of Western parochial schools. Besides regulating clothing, shoes, and backpacks, many Japanese secondary schools impose strict bans on makeup, nail polish, hairstyles, and even eyebrow grooming that would make the average American teen wince. Perhaps the most eye-opening aspect of Japanese school dress codes, though, is that until the 1990s, these mortifying buruma (bloomers) were the standard girls’ PE uniform.

Pakistan violated the airspace yesterday and this is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given complete freedom to Indian security forces to take their call. This is why the border areas and LoC are on high-alert. On the other hand, in Jammu and Kashmir all the schools near the border will remain shut for today. India on Wednesday handed over to Pakistan a dossier on "specific details" of involvement of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. #HighAlert #Pakistan To Subscribe our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/abpnewstv Download the ABP App for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... While architects have mastered the art of manipulating stone and concrete, military engineers have fashioned metal and wood to create devastating weapons of war. The Roman foot soldiers main weapon is a fearsome sword called the Gladius, a double edged blade with a sharp point used for stabbing and thrusting, rather than slashing. When not fighting at close quarters, their spear, called a pilum, could kill from a distance with lethal accuracy. Protecting soldiers from injury is just as important as arming them for attack. Early Roman soldiers wear chainmail, but armourers come up with a far superior form of protection. Articulated plate armour called lorica segmentata, made from overlapping iron plates joined together by leather straps, as flexible as chainmail, but one third lighter. If the romans weaponry has a modern feel, then so does the tactics they use. The Roman legions know exactly how to fight heavily armed foes. They use the testudo, Latin for tortoise. Legionaries bunch together and lock their shields in formation to create a protective screen, a formation as effective in attack, as it is in defence. Few examples of Roman artillery survive, but they left detailed clues as to how to recreate them. The Ermine Street Guard Roman Reenactment Society is dedicated to research into the Roman Army and the reconstruction of Roman armour and equipment. The scorpion fires iron tipped bolts, used in the first stages of attack and during sieges. It fires arrows at incredible speeds, pierces armour, and kills instantly, a bit like a giant crossbow. Although an effective anti-personnel weapon, the scorpion is of little use when attacking a building. For that the Romans need something with a bit more punch, the onager and the ballista. These pieces of artillery fire large stones at the enemy. During sieges they propel projectiles so high into the air that they can break down enemy walls. The whizzing noise of the stones strikes terror into Rome’s enemies. To increase the fear factor they’re painted black so harder to see. The ballista works like the scorpion, but is bigger and more powerful. It can fire a 60 pound stone or a 3 foot bolt around 15,000 feet allowing the soldiers to stand well away from enemy archers. The speed of the missile is phenomenal hitting its target at about 115 mph, anyone sustaining a direct hit would be killed instantly. The onager uses a different principle, it catapults basketball sized stones nearly 100 feet using a single arm and sling. The vertical arm is powered by a large horizontal skein of rope, coiled and twisted to create a rotational force, the skein acts like a spring storing energy to be released on firing. The combination of technology and tactics makes the Roman army the premier fighting force in Europe for 500 years and influences military tactics for the next 1,500.
