Hamas takes military training to schools
Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe The Hamas government in Gaza is giving boys in state schools military-style training once a week. It starts with drills, and eventually they graduate to training using guns. Not everyone is happy about this development, with some critics saying that Gazan youth are exposed to enough violence without being trained for it in school. Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports from Gaza City. At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. Military Style Schools | Whats happened to Respect
I like the proposal for the military to get involved in education. It's just shame that the respect for teachers and adults in general from children has diminished to such an extent. I'm not suggesting children should be seen and not heard but a bit of order in schools would be to the benefit of all concerned.

Native Struggles [Boarding Schools]
This native brother's story made me feel some type of way :'( This is why I will do my *BEST* to preserve, *and save*, my native heritage! I'll pass it down to future generations to come. Ain't *NOBODY* killing the indian in US! ------------------------------------- The choices seemed simple and stark to the reformer movement — either kill all the Indians or assimilate them into white civilization through education. Popular press reports about events like Ponca Chief Standing Bear's desperate attempt to return from Oklahoma to his ancestral homelands in Nebraska to bury his dead son captured the sympathies of the nation. Boarding schools were set up to “kill the Indian and save the man.” Tribal languages and cultures were discouraged. Sherman High School in Riverside California is one of the last. So, even before the Civil War, reformers had pushed the federal government to begin an assimilation policy of educating Indians. By the 1860s, the federal government set up 48 "day schools" near some of the reservations. Indian students would travel off the reservations, attend school and return home. The reformers hoped that this system would allow the students to civilize their parents, as well, by sharing what they were learning. Just the opposite happened — parents were perfectly capable of teaching their children tribal languages, cultures and belief systems, despite the efforts of the schools. The lessons of the day were obliterated at night by the realities of communal tribal living. In the late 1870s, the reformers tried a new experiment — reservation boarding schools. The idea was that students would live all week in the boarding schools that were built a little farther away from the reservations. But as time went by, the families simply moved their tee pees closer to the schools. ----------------------------------------- The students were extremely homesick. Their long hair was cut. One boarding school student, Lone Wolf of the Blackfoot tribe, remembered: "[Long hair] was the pride of all Indians. The boys, one by one, would break down and cry when they saw their braids thrown on the floor. All of the buckskin clothes had to go and we had to put on the clothes of the White Man. If we thought the days were bad, the nights were much worse. This is when the loneliness set in, for it was when we knew that we were all alone. Many boys ran away from the school because the treatment was so bad, but most of them were caught and brought back by the police." The students were thrown into a military style regimentation of classes and activities. They were up at the call of a bugle at 5:45 a.m. with exercise and military drills following. Breakfast was at 6:45. Industrial work began at 8:00 and formal school at 9:00. After lunch there was more industrial work and school with lectures into the evening. There was less than an hour of free time during each day, and the students were in bed at 9:00 p.m. Students were prohibited from speaking their native languages. Instead, they were supposed to converse and even think in English. If they were caught "speaking Indian" they were severely beaten with a leather belt. Students were taught to hate who they were born to be. Ojibwe student Merta Bercier wrote: "Did I want to be an Indian? After looking at the pictures of the Indians on the warpath — fighting, scalping women and children, and Oh! Such ugly faces. No! Indians were mean people — I'm glad I'm not an Indian, I thought." Between 1880 and 1902, 25 off-reservation boarding schools were built and 20,000 to 30,000 Native American children went through the system. That was roughly 10 percent of the total Indian population in 1900.

10 Most Insane Training Camps in the World
top 10 hardest camps you won't believe exist Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] DESCRIPTION (250-400 words) :What do you think of when we mention the word ‘camp’? Well, in all likelihood you probably picture cabins, a lake, counsellors and dining halls. Yes, summer camp has a lot of good memories for many people. After all, it was a place where you met new friends, learned fascinating facts and tried out all sorts of activities that you never would have tried back in your regular life. Well, get rid of all those fond memories because the types of camps we’re talking about here don’t involve listening to the camp counsellor while you purposely burn your marshmallow at the fire. Although, we can’t guarantee other things won’t get burnt. The following camps are all pretty brutal in their own way. From hard labor to bizarre diets to punishing exercise regimes, these camps will have you longing for that lame summer camp your parents shipped you off to every year. There’s the gruelling Toughest Training Camp organization who live up to their name when it comes to exercise. We’ll also take a look at the boot camp for the Gurkhas. Legendary soldiers of Nepalese descent, this is definitely not the kind of camp where you learn to play guitar and weave necklaces. There are also the Gulags, which are technically camps – just for people who are seen as enemies of the state. People looking to lose weight often head to “fat” camps. Although as you’ll see, one particular Austrian fat camp has become a bit notorious. Have an internet addiction? That’s not a problem. China specializes in treating people in specialized camps. Whether you get out alive is a whole different matter. If you’re interested in the Navy SEALs but don’t want to actually serve in the military you can always try out Kokoro Camp. If martial arts are your thing then try checking out the Thailand Karate Camps or go all out by visiting a Shaolin camp. Of course, no brutal camp discussion would be complete without talking about Marine Boot Camp. Then of course, there are those terrifying camps for troubled teens which start with a planned abduction. These are all brutal camps, so we’ll let you judge which you think is the worst. 10 Controversial Punishments In Schools Around The World

And while most schools no longer employ corporal punishment as a form of discipline in classrooms, that doesn’t stop others from coming up with new ways to discourage poor behavior. Public humiliation seems to be one of the new forms of punishment by teachers, but it’s not the only way. While school punishment may have come a long way from whacks with a wooden ruler, some schools have come up with some pretty severe punishments. From psychological punishment to some old-fashioned corporal punishments, here are some of the ways teachers try to teach their students a lesson for bad behavior. 10 Most BRUTAL Martial Arts Trainings
top 10 most intense fighting techniques and training in the world Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like 10 Countries With The Most Beautiful Soldiers In The World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TIoal248_w 10 Dumb Facebook Posts That Resulted in Jail https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptaRVEeYM8c Description: You’ve likely been there. You know, at home watching a martial arts film where one guy takes on the entire world and delivers an array of punches, chops and kicks which leave his enemies in a heap. It likely inspired you to run around doing your best Bruce Lee impersonation before you broke that picture or accidentally hurt yourself. Odds are that you are no Karate Kid – that’s ok. To master any specific martial art requires many hours of training and discipline. Surprisingly, it is not something most can do after watching only a couple hours of subtitled films. In fact, many martial arts require very strenuous training which call for extreme flexibility, reflexes faster than a cat and a pain threshold which is unimaginable. In order to make the transition from couch potato to Kung Fu Master, you’re going to have to do a little more than get in shape and learn how to punch and kick. As these examples show, some training methods practiced around the world can seem absolutely crazy and unnecessary. Some require levels of focus and concentration that seem super-human. Others need a student to display balance and reflexes that seem beyond any human. Then there are the training methods that leave us asking ‘why?’ because they just seem so incredibly insane. Top 10 Reasons FINLAND Has the World’s Best SCHOOL SYSTEM

Finland, a tiny nation of 5.5 million people, consistently makes the top 5 performers across those categories, making it the top educational performer in Europe and one of the strongest in the world. High School In Beijing, China
There's a high school right next to my apartment in Beijing, China. The students are routinely brought to the athletic field for formation where they engage in military-style marches. They usually get Sunday off but on this Sunday I woke up to a bullhorn barking orders and saw this. My first thought was 'poor kids, they don't even get a break from school on a Sunday.' They really put them through some drills. It's all about discipline in Chinese schools, for sure.

How to Make a Bed Military Style
Watch more Housekeeping Tips videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/310649-How-to-Make-a-Bed-Military-Style Making your bed is easy; avoiding the urge to climb on in is the tough part. Follow these steps for a snug and secure night's sleep. Step 1: Place the fitted sheet on the mattress Place the fitted sheet on the bed by securing the corner elastic under the corners of the mattress. Tuck all of the edges of the sheet tightly around and under the mattress. Step 2: Place the top sheet over the fitted sheet Lay the top sheet over the fitted sheet, with the sheet's top edge even with the top of the mattress. Be sure that the sides of the sheet hang evenly over each side of the mattress. Tip Place the edge of the sheet with the longer hem – about 2 inches wide – at the head of the bed. Step 3: Tuck the bottom of the sheet under mattress Lift the bottom of the mattress with one hand and tuck the bottom of the sheet between the box spring and the mattress with your other hand. Be sure that the edges of the sheet lay flat under the mattress. Tip Use a long-handled wooden spoon to tightly tuck the sheet if you have trouble lifting the mattress. Step 4: Create a diagonal fold at the corner of top sheet Lift the top sheet about a foot away from the foot of the bed on the bedside. Pull straight up to form a diagonal fold and lay the fold flat on top of the bed. Step 5: Tuck the corner and the diagonal fold Tuck the piece that is hanging from the corner under the mattress. Smooth the diagonal fold down over the side of the bed, and tightly tuck it under the mattress. Step 6: Tuck the sheet to the top of the bed Tuck the side of the top sheet securely under the edge of the bed. Tip Don't tuck in the last foot of the sheet near the head of the bed. Fold the top side of the sheet down to form a nice, crisp edge. Step 7: Repeat steps on the other side of mattress Do the same on the other side of the mattress, keeping the sheet pulled tight. Center your pillow at the head of the bed and look forward to a good night's sleep. Did You Know? In 2009, a hotel chain sponsored the World's Biggest Bed Jump. Thousands of people in four different cities jumped on giant 50- by 33-foot-beds for over 16 hours.

Why Schools Should Be Going Around in Circles
“Before we had circles at our school there was a lot of fights, riots, problems. It was just a lot of confusion.” “I think circles help because it expresses a student's feelings and stuff more. Instead of violence and stuff, just talking in a circle could avoid violence.” “Now that we have circles at our school, it is more like calm and collected, and we get to talk around our peers and staff respectfully and tell them how we feel and what’s the problem.” “Circles have changed our class because we've had to talk to one another. It’s not just the teachers. It’s all of us together. So we’ve kind of had to come together as a team and talk.” West Philadelphia High School was considered the worst in the city. Suspensions and expulsions did not stop the frequent fights and fire-setting. A TV reporter said he and a camera person used to wait near the school on slow news days because there was a good chance of a serious incident to report. The good news is that “restorative practices” came to West Philadelphia. In the summer of 2008 the International Institute for Restorative Practices taught the school staff to use circles and related strategies. Students began to have real conversations with staff and with each other. The conversations improved relationships and built a sense of community. In the first year of using restorative practices, violent acts and serious incidents were down 52 percent and in the next year were down another 45 percent. For the first time in eight years, West Philadelphia High School was no longer on the government’s “persistently dangerous schools list.” The use of restorative practices in schools is helping to end America’s disastrous experiment with so-called “zero tolerance,” which began in the 1990’s. The theory of zero tolerance was that if schools responded to even the smallest wrongdoing with harsh punishment, such as suspensions and expulsions, the school atmosphere would improve. But it too often resulted in absurd punishments, such as 9-year-old students in Colorado being suspended from school for pointing their fingers like guns on the playground and a 14-year-old honor student in Texas facing five months in a military-style boot camp for bringing a small amount of alcohol to school in a bottle of soda pop. Ironically, a report from the American Psychological Association found that zero tolerance is more likely to increase bad behavior, school dropout rates and involvement of students with the criminal justice system. The severe punishment of all misbehavior, no matter how minor, does more harm than good because it poisons relationships in the school community. Restorative practices, on the other hand, hold students accountable for their behavior, but in a way that maintains their dignity and good relationships with staff. A large federal research study showed that when schools promote better relationships, there is less violence, less drug and alcohol use and less teenage pregnancy. In fact, students in schools with harsh discipline policies report feeling less safe at school than students in schools with more moderate policies. But, restorative practices can be done badly, so that responses to wrongdoing become meaningless. It’s critical that our implementation of these strategies be done well and that we evaluate the results. I’m excited about a large-scale experiment in which half the schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania are adopting restorative practices, with the results being compared to the other half of the city’s schools. It doesn’t help us when people simply demand more punishment or more restorative practices just based on their beliefs. We need to look carefully at what works, what doesn’t, how and why, and then follow that evidence with high quality implementation. Look for future blog posts when I’ll report on the outcomes from this and other experiments. That’s how we can successfully build a new reality.

U.S. Marines Hardcore Martial Arts Program
The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) is a combat system developed by the United States Marine Corps to combine existing and new hand-to-hand and close quarters combat techniques with morale and team-building functions and instruction in the Warrior Ethos. The program, which began in 2001, trains Marines (and U.S. Navy personnel attached to Marine units) in unarmed combat, edged weapons, weapons of opportunity, and rifle and bayonet techniques. It also stresses mental and character development, including the responsible use of force, leadership, and teamwork. The MCMAP was officially created by Marine Corps Order 1500.54, published in 2002, as a "revolutionary step in the development of martial arts skills for Marines and replaces all other close-combat related systems preceding its introduction." MCMAP comes from an evolution dating back to the creation of the Marine Corps, beginning with the martial abilities of Marine boarding parties, who often had to rely on bayonet and cutlass techniques. During World War I these bayonet techniques were supplemented with unarmed combat techniques, which often proved useful in trench warfare. Between the world wars, Colonel Anthony J. Biddle began the creation of standardized bayonet and close combat techniques based on boxing, wrestling, savate and fencing. Also during this period, Captains Wallace M. Greene and Samuel B. Griffith learned Kung Fu techniques from Chinese American Marines and brought this knowledge to other Marines throughout the Marine Corps. In 1956, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Hayward (captain of the Judo team at MCRD) made Gunnery Sergeant Bill Miller the new Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Hand-To-Hand Combat. Miller was ordered to develop a new curriculum that a 110- or a 210-pound Marine could use to quickly kill the enemy. Miller created the program from various martial arts styles such as Okinawan karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Boxing, and Jujutsu. Every Marine recruit that went through MCRD was instructed in Miller's Combat Curriculum. This also included Special Operations Forces from all branches of the military and civilian entities. Later in 2001, retired Gunnery Sergeant Bill Miller was awarded the Black Belt Emeritus "for pioneering Martial Arts in the United States Marine Corps." Eventually these different techniques evolved into the LINE System in the early 1980s. Later, the system was found to be lacking in flexibility and techniques for use in situations that did not require lethal force, such as peacekeeping operations. The Marine Corps began searching for a more effective system. The result was the Marine Corps Close Combat training Program implemented in 1997–1999. MCMAP was implemented as part of a Commandant of the Marine Corps initiative in summer 2000. Commandant James L. Jones assigned Lieutenant Colonel George Bristol and Master Gunnery Sergeant Cardo Urso, with almost 70 years of martial arts experience between them, to establish the new MCMAP curriculum. In July 2011, MCMAP performers from San Diego demonstrated for the Koyamada Foundation's United States Martial Arts Festival at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center in Redondo Beach, California.
