Difference Between Inline and Block Elements CSS

05:52
Block vs inline explained. Why not both? When to use it, how to transform one in another and much more in this tutorial. Follow the wisdom of Tech Tzu: https://twitter.com/Tech_Tzu https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100013382105892&fref=ts Project Resources: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ydkkkcar8z6685c/Inline_vs_Block_elements_-_by_Tech_Tzu.zip Tools: Brackets, FREE code editor http://brackets.io/ Emmet, super speed coding addon http://emmet.io/ Beautify, turning your ugly code into beautiful script https://github.com/brackets-beautify/brackets-beautify Transcription: Okay let's understand what is the difference between inline and block elements, it's very important to understand the difference so we can easily manipulate your HTML file and CSS files. And your website layout in general. Okay. Inline elements are basically elements that flow, that flows one after each other, for example, add one p tag and add some text inside, as you can see we can add our span, which is an in-line element and says this is span and you can see that our text is inside the text it this text wrap its around, so nothing special, you just add some in-line elements. For example, let's add the big is this is an inline element and say this is big text, and that's it. Inline elements are elements that are inside the text and the text flows around them. Okay, let's move to block elements. Block elements are, for example, our div is a block element and I will explain on this example. Let's add to our div some styling, some styling, I prepare some styles over here in the comment just cut it inside add some width to be 100 pixels, and the height also, and background color to be white. Just to add hex code... and now we can see our div element. For example, if you add, we can add in the span elements, we can add another span element, for example, this is a big text big, we just copy and paste it and it will be in a line, but if we add another div elements, just copy this one here, it will go in another line. Just add some margin so we can better see margin to be up 20 pixels. Okay, so we can see our, our div element so let's add another div element. okay, there's another div element. As you can see the block elements are one below another and our in-line elements are next to each other. But, we have tricks, we can just mash up some these things, and just let's say that are div elements, which are naturally block elements, let's say display, display inline, so they act like inline elements. And what happened? As you can see something is wrong. And that's because inline elements don't support height and width of the elements. Just check this out: if we add to our big, just say it's add to our big element, let's add height for example 100 pixels nothing happens. Width also 100 pixels nothing happens. Because inline elements don't support width and height, but block elements do, so we just need to display these like inline-block. As you can see now our elements are acting just like in-line elements, just like this one, and that but there block elements. What will happen if we add to our in-line elements display to be displayed like a block? They will just fall down ok? I will just add background color so we can see better. And as you can see we changed to block height in the width now have a purpose and we had these white background block but if we add inline-block they will flow next to each other the flow next to each other. So the main difference between the div and in-line between the block and in-line elements is that in-line in line with text and block acts as a block and just add display in-line block or display block to change behavior of that element. So everything can be in-line and everything can be a block element by just by adding these rule display. And this is it, thank you for watching and bye-bye.

CSS Tutorial For Beginners 35 - Paragraph Spacing

03:47
Yo ninjas! In this CSS tutorial for beginners I'll walk you through how to space out paragraph tags on a page using the margin property. Consider this a gentle introduction into the box model in CSS. In the next lesson we'll learn even more about margins and the box model property. When applying spacing between paragraph tags, it's normally best just to apply a margin to either the bottom or the top of the tag. I opt for bottom, but this is your choice. Anyway, peace out, have fun and keep coding :). HTML5 Basics - Display Types (Part5)

07:06
In this video we are going to talk about something inherent to html tags: display types. Display types define how the tags behave when rendered by the browser. We can use Style Sheets to change these at any time, but each tag has a default behavior and its important to understand how they will work when you are describing your page when writing the initial markup. Got that? # Three Types There are a lot, but we are going to concern ourselves with three main display styles. # Block Block level elements are big blocks, just like they sound. They are generally used to divide content, because by default block level elements begin on new lines. Block-level elements may contain inline elements and other block-level elements. Inherent in this structural distinction is the idea that block elements create "larger" structures than inline elements. An example is a "p" tag, that sections off the whole paragraph, and forces the next paragraph tag to a new line. Check out the notes below for a link to a list of all the block level tags in HTML. [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Block-level_elements] # Inline Inline elements may contain only data and other inline elements. Where block level elements are larger structures that contain all kinds a crap. By default, inline elements do not begin with new line when rendered by the browser. An example of this would be to wrap some words in your paragraph in an "a" tag. the words become a link, but the link does not start a new line in the paragraph, or disrupt the flow of content. It just sits inline in the paragraph. When we get to styling our document, we will note that inline elements cannot take width, height, margin and padding styles. For more on that check out this link [http://www.maxdesign.com.au/articles/inline/] # Inline-block This is the strange, but handy one. An inline block is placed inline (ie. on the same line as adjacent content), but it behaves as a block. So it can take those margins and paddings and dimensions. The only tags that default to inline-block are images and buttons. But with css, later on we will see that we can change any element to inline-block if we want to. Check out the link below for more information on inline-block [http://www.impressivewebs.com/inline-block/] # Display None & Table and others... There are other default display types that all have their little display behavior quirks; like display:table, or display:none. And there are a lot of interesting display methods on the horizon in css3, but today we wanted to just talk about how the html tags cary certain display types by default.

07 Web Designing - Block level elements vs Inline element

09:46
Web Designing - Block level elements vs Inline element HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) elements are usually either "block-level" elements or "inline" elements Block-level Elements --A block-level element always starts on a new line and takes up the full width available (stretches out to the left and right as far as it can). --By default, block-level elements begin on new lines, for example h1 - h6 p blockquote Inline Elements --An inline element does not start on a new line and only takes up as much width as necessary. --but inline elements can start anywhere in a line. a,img,i,b,strong,em,q

fluid container reflow

00:27
This container was created with a DIV element and inline CSS. There are no images in the background or around the edges. Note: I had to use (less than angle bracket) to represent the backward pointing less than angle bracket used in the code, and (greater than angle bracket) to represent the forward pointing greater than angle bracket on the keyboard. Each of these is one character. Youtube won't allow for this character in the description below. The code that you would enter into the HTML Code View is: (less than angle bracket)div style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)p(greater than angle bracket)Here's a single container with rounded corners in which you can write whatever you would like. This box will respond to your screen size so that the text reflows and remains visible without scrolling, until Blackboard's content area hits its minimum width of 1150 pixels. It doesn't use an image in its background, so it is light weight in terms of downloading content. Its only limitation is set within Blackboard Learn's minimum width size for the parent element (the content area).(less than angle bracket)(forward slash)p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/div(greater than angle bracket) Note the words contained within the DIV element that display in white letters. You can simply select this text and delete it, and enter whatever message you would like to appear here. The essentials to keep are: (less than angle bracket)div style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/div(greater than angle bracket) . Write whatever you would like in between the (less than angle bracket)div(greater than angle bracket) tags. The style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" is not HTML, but "inline" CSS. CSS is another web language, that styles the content laid out by HTML. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet. Most web designers use separate (external) style sheets of CSS and link to them within their web page. We have to use what is called "inline" CSS within a content management system in order to impose the styling that we want and override the basic styling set within the learning management system's CSS files.

Padding and margin enable you to add space inside (padding) or outside (margin) of an element's boundary. These properties make it possible to create responsive websites whose content reflows while maintaining consistent spacing. Here we’ll cover 5 ways to add margin and padding in Webflow: 1. Spacing individual sides 2. Spacing opposite sides 3. Spacing all sides at once 4. Negative margin 5. HTML video tutorial - 81 - html div tag

11:29
HTML - div tag: div tag is a paired tag. div tag is a block level tag. div tag is a generic container tag. div tag is used to group various html tags, so that sections can be created and styles can be applied. div tag is used to divide body in to various sections or divide body into various divisions. div tag has no margin no padding hence use br tag to add break between div elements. In modern html every html element should be meaningful. h1 indicates heading, p indicates paragraph, b indicates bold etc. we supposed to use right element for right purpose. When there is no meaningful tag present for what we want to achieve then we use div tag. For example there is no tag used to create divisions in the page hence we use div tag. span tag is used to enclose inline contents like text images etc. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/22laibNbSE8 Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/3t9aM8tQ3mI ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/chidrestechtu... How to Use Inline Tags in HTML

01:24
This HTML tutorial will walk you through the concept of Inline tags and their attributes on the web page. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ HTML Inline tags are similar to block tags. The only difference is that they don't use additional white space or a margin at the start. Inline tags are used when we have to display an Image or a Text on the webpage in lined with the rest of the text. Image or Text contained in an Inline tag wouldn't be displayed separately on the webpage. However, they can be modified with different styles and themes identically. Here, we will teach you how to use inline tags in a HTML page. Step # 1 -- Insert an Image Tag In this tutorial we will guide you on how to use inline tags in a HTML page. First of all, open up the source code of your HTML page in a Text editor. Now we are going to insert an image inline to the text. For this purpose, enter the image tag as im src = "cloud.png" / Step # 2 -- Save your Changes to view the image on the page By entering the Image tag in the HTML page, an image with the name "cloud.png" will appear in line with the text on the page. You can now save your changes and refresh the browser to view the image inserted successfully. Step # 3 -- Replace the Paragraph tag with Div tag Now in the next step, try to insert inline text by replacing the paragraph tags which is the "p" and "/p" with the "div" and "/div" tags. Once done, insert another "Div" tag inside the existed tag by entering the code as div style = "background: yellow; display: inline;" and put the closing tag at the end of sentence which you want to inline. Step # 4 -- Save your Changes to view the inline text on the page Now click on the "Save" button to save your changes and refresh the browser to view the inline text highlighted with a Yellow background on the page. In this manner, you can work with html inline tags.

How to Use Display: Block in CSS

00:52
Follow this step by step guide to learn the basic concept of Block tags used in HTML and their properties Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Block Tags are widely used in HTML designing and creating interactive web pages. When we insert a Block tag in a source code with an Image or Text, it will automatically add margin and space to it. Due to this property, an Image or a text which is inserted in the Block tag is displayed identically on the web page. Here we will teach you how to block tags in a HTML and how it will appear on the web page. Step # 1 -- Insert an Image Tag In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to block tags on a HTML page. Block tags are basically same as the inline images or text. However, a block tag takes vertical space on both sides when displayed on a page. In order to insert block tags, open up the source code of the HTML page where you have already inserted the inline tags on Text editor. Now, move over to the "Image" tag and add the code as Style = "display: block" Add this code between the Image source and the closing tag. Step # 2 -- Save the Changes In the next step, save your changes and refresh your browser. You will notice a cloud image appearing separately from the text as a block on the page. Step # 3 -- Using the Block Property of Tags Next, go back to the source code and move over the "Div" tag of the inline text and replace it with "Block" tag. Step # 4 -- Save your Changes and Display the Page Once you have replaced the tags, save your changes and refresh the browser in order to view your selected text as a block tag on the page.

INTRODUCTION TO CSS PART I Be sure to watch the Intro HTML videos First: HTML Part 1: https://youtu.be/2hUZxlbcI40 HTML Part 2: https://youtu.be/zRFD0aDtCOE Also, after watching this CSS video, make sure to check out Part 2: https://youtu.be/9Pg4a8RrKu8 VIDEO NOTES Remember, HTML has one purpose - Describe Content CSS's job is to Layout the Content In the CSS worlds, there are three components to consider: 1) Selectors 2) Properties 3) Values In the example code below, "p" is the selector; "color" is a property; "value" is red; p { color: red; } THERE ARE THREE WAYS TO IMPLEMENT CSS: 1) Inline 2) Embed 3) External Style Sheet NOTES ON PADDING AND MARGINS There are multiple ways to represent padding: top right bottom left padding: 20px 10px 15px 3px; top/bottom right/left padding: 20px 10px; top/right/bottom/left padding: 20px; These four lines below are the equivalent of this - padding: 20px 10px 5px 3px; padding-top: 20px; padding-right: 10px; padding-bottom: 5px; padding-left: 3px; margin works EXACTLY the same as padding. LEARN HTML BASICS - Center tag

02:16
In this tutorial i will show how to use the html center tag. Definition and Usage The center tag is not supported in HTML5. Use CSS instead. The center tag is used to center-align text. This tag has been deprecated in HTML 4 (and XHTML 1) in favor of the CSS text-align property, which can be applied to the div element or to an individual p . For centering blocks, use other CSS properties like margin-left and margin-right and set them to auto (or set margin to 0 auto ).
