The Price Skimming Strategy

08:00
Price Skimming is a common pricing strategy used for new products. Employing price skimming involves setting a high initial price, which helps a business recover the costs associated with developing and marketing the product. Although price skimming can be used in a variety of industries, it's commonly seen in consumer electronics, including: smartphones, video game consoles, and tablet computers. Learn more about price skimming, and the conditions that need to exist for this pricing strategy to be effective, in this video. You Are Pricing Your Product WRONG! How to Determine Optimal Price for Profit

04:16
What should you be charging for your product or service? ►Subscribe: https://goo.gl/ScRTwc to learn more secret SEO tips. Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/neilkpatel/ Read more on my blog: https://neilpatel.com/blog Today I'm going to share with you how to determine the optimal price for your product or service. 0:29 Optimal Price Tip #1 The first thing you need to do is look at your competition. Is your product comparable to theirs? Is it better? Is it worse? Do you have the same feature sets? Do you have fewer features? If your product is easier to use, it has all the same features, and it's higher quality, you can price your product at the same price as your competition or higher. Now, if your product has fewer features than the competition or your service has fewer features, it's not as good, you don't want to be in the same price point. Ideally, you want to be lower. It's just common sense, right? 1:41 Optimal Price Tip #2 Now, the second tip I have for you and this is if you wanna maximize how much income you're making and profit versus capturing the majority of the market because the first tip I gave you, if you wanna put your price lower than the competition when your product's better, it's a great way to gobble up their market share but on the flip side, if you're trying to optimize for profitability, what you wanna do is split test your pricing. You can use Crazy Egg, and you can use Optimizely, VWO. Pick A/B testing tool. Create two pages of your product or service at different price points and keep playing with the price. You can increase it, and you can decrease it. Usually, you want to start off increasing it, and you want to see, alright, can I generate the same amount of sales with the higher price point? If you can, then you want to go with the higher price point then you don't want to stop there just because you got more sales on the front end. If you're unsure of how to price your product or service, leave a comment below with your product or service, tell me what you're thinking, and I'll give you some feedback. If you like this video, tell people about it, share it, subscribe. Thank you for watching, and I can hope to help you come up with the ideal price for your product or service.

The Best Pricing Strategy - The Apple Way

03:29
Please Subscribe here https://goo.gl/6mVLxs to have more videos on business, entrepreneurship, motivation, personal development and success strategy. Setting the right price for a product or a service can be very challenging especially for new entrepreneurs. This is because it can be quite confusing to understand how pricing really works in the market. For example, which of these two products would you buy, the first one is priced at $800 and the second product with the same functions and usage is priced only at $4? Obviously, most of us would choose the $4 product, right? Yes and no. It all depends on 2 important factors which I am going to explain more in this video. If you say yes then why is it that a 256GB iPhone 7 which is priced at $849 is more in demand than a Freedom 251 smartphone which is priced only at $4 a piece? If you say no then why is it that most of us would choose to get a $1 mineral water than the one that is priced at $200 a bottle? So how much should you price your product then? Well, there’s no one right answer to this question because there are so many things that you need to consider such as your overall business goals, how you plan to position your product in the market, your market niche, the costs to produce your products, your product category, and your overall operational costs, just to name a few. Is there a simpler way to do this? Of course, there is, just make sure you know your product category and your positioning strategy. Let me explain. Basically, your product will fall into either one of these two big categories. One is a generic product which can be divided into convenience and shopping products. Convenience products refer to our day to day products such as food, drinks, household products, and so forth whereas shopping products refer to products like clothing, shoes, furniture, and electrical appliances. The second product category is specialty products such as exclusive clothing lines, luxury cars, branded items such as branded bags, watches, shoes, and perfumes. If it is categorised as a generic product just use cost plus profit pricing strategy. Which means, you set your price by adding up the total costs to produce one unit plus the profit you want to make for every product sold. This usually works just fine because almost all generic products are priced this way. But if your product is a specialty product, you need to decide on how you want to position it in the market, more specifically how do you want to position it in the mind of your customers and you can set whatever price you want. The most important thing that you must remember here is this, the moment you enter the market with your product positioning and pricing strategy, it will stay in there forever and, to reposition it later on in the future is almost impossible. For example, Freedom 251 smartphone is positioned as the cheapest and most affordable smartphone in the world and to reposition it just like an iPhone is near to impossible task. Therefore, how should you price your products and services? Decide on your product category and on how do you want to position it in your market. pricing strategies | pricing strategies in marketing | competitive pricing strategy | marketing pricing strategies | pricing methods | business pricing strategies | pricing strategy examples | Follow me on twitter https://twitter.com/moslemanoar Connect with me on linkedin https://my.linkedin.com/in/moslem Follow me on my blog http://moslemanoar.com/ Connect with me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/moslemanoarpage Connect with me on skype moslemanoar

Manufacturer Price Sheet: Material, Labor, Overhead & Profit

07:42
The following video breaks down how a manufacturer should come up with a price for industrial finished goods. First, the company must account for its material costs and apply a 5 percent indirect cost to that portion of the manufacturer's price sheet. This 5 percent is meant to offset overruns in production and or additional costs of financing inventory and material purchases. Second, the company must account for its labor relative to each operation performed to turn a raw material into a finished good. The calculation involves defining the operation and applying the labor cost to both the setup time in manufacturing and the actual run time. Third, all labor costs are added in order to come up with a complete total for all the costs of manufacturing a given product. Those costs are then followed up by the company's overhead, which is calculated by taking its indirect expenses divided by its direct expenses. Indirect expenses are those expenses that are in addition to the the costs needed to produce a part. Direct expenses are exactly that. These include the costs involved or expenses involved in manufacturing the part. Finally, the company adds its mark-up in order to secure a profit on the sale. Profit is critical because it helps to fund the company's pursuit of new product introductions and secure its long-term future. Here is a sample of the Manufacturer Price Sheet in Excel Format http://www.driveyoursuccess.com Video explains how to price a product with direct material, labor, overhead and profit

I can't tell you what it will cost to launch every product, but I am happy to share my product start up costs. Steve Jobs' amazing marketing strategy - MUST WATCH

This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. How to Launch Your First Amazon FBA Product: 6 Hacks to a Home-Run Success (w/ Daniel Audunsson)

14:56
How to launch your first Amazon FBA product + 6 hacks to make it a home-run success. ►► How to Make $10,000/Month Online: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step There are 2 secrets that you need to know to launch your first Amazon FBA product and make it a home-run success even if it’s your first product. And these 2 secrets are… 1) Sales Velocity 2) Conversions These are the 2 key factors the Amazon algorithm uses when choosing which products will sit at the top of their search results (the search engine accounts for 90% of sales on Amazon). Here is what you need to do to launch your first Amazon FBA product and make it a home-run success (even if it’s your first product): You need to match (or ideally improve on) the sales velocity & conversions of your top competitor for 2 weeks. If you do this… then your item will soar to the top of the search results - and YOU’LL start making all of the organic sales for your product! Hack #1 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use product giveaways Product giveaways for your Amazon FBA private label product are one of the most powerful strategies at your disposal for massively increasing your sales velocity & conversions. You can’t give products away for free but you can give people a heavily discounted coupon that lets them buy it for just 99 cents, which means you are basically giving it away for free. And this is simple: Sign up for a service like JumpSend or ZonBlast. These services have a huge membership base of people that are keen to purchase heavily discounted items on Amazon. They will then distribute your coupon to it’s members. Not only will this drastically increase your sales, but the conversions will be high: You can expect around 50%. Hack #2 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Lower the price If your item starts getting sales (product giveaways are of course a great way to do this) and traction, you can then attract more sales from simply lowering the price below your competition for a week or two. If your product is already ranked in the top few results and you want to climb to the top, this strategy alone can be enough. Hack #3 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use SuperURLs When someone clicks on your product listing after finding it using the Amazon search engine, they enter using a SuperURL: It’s a URL containing tracking information that tells the Amazon algorithm that they arrived at your listing through finding it using the search engine. You can give people this URL instead of your usual product URL to trick the algorithm into thinking that people found (and bought your item) through finding it using the search engine. Be aware though, this is a controversial method. Experts like Daniel recommend only pushing through a maximum of 20% of your sales this way. Hack #4 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use paid advertising You can place paid ads in the Amazon search engine for your item, targeting specific keywords. When someone buys a product through clicking on it, not only will this increase your sales velocity - but it’ll help your product rank organically for that keyword as well. Hack #5 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Increase the conversions on your listing & get reviews It’s not enough to get the initial sales & conversions from drastically lowering your price: You need to have a high-converting listing so that when you reach the top of the search results you’ll keep making more sales than your competitor, otherwise the Amazon algorithm will drop you in the results. Here are some tips for increasing your conversions on your listing: * Have the maximum number of HD photos that are big enough the customer can zoom in on them. * Have a keyword rich product title. * Have multiple bullet points with excellent copy. * Have a descriptive product description that has photos included in it. Be sure to email and follow up with your customers, asking them to leave an honest review. If you do this, you can increase the rate of people leaving a review to as high as 10-15% (compared to less than 5%). Hack #6 to launch your first Amazon FBA private label product & make initial sales: Use Amazon Marketing Services Amazon Market Services (AMS) is an advertising platform that you need to be specially approved for. When you are approved it lets you advertise on lots of pages on Amazon, such as your competitor’s pages. Because it requires pre-approval, most of your competition won’t be using it. So you can use this to place ads in larger amounts than 99% of your competitors and outsell them.

*** Newest Video: http://www.evancarmichael.com/Masters/ *** Like this video? Please give it a thumbs up below and/or leave a comment - Thank you!!! In this video I answer a question from one of my readers Gordon who asked for my advice in how to sell his new product: "Evan I have been in the automotive field since 1973. I have been working on a program for 4 to 5 years now that will give the shops as much as 35% to 45% better buying power on thier consumable parts that they now use in thier shops. I now have that in place. It also incudes a door to door prepaid freight program. We also have a marketing program that will bring in as much as 500 new faces to thier shops and hold them there for the next 18 months. We can do this for them with no up front monies from them. I know this works because we are doing it now in my own shop. Also for the last 4 years i have gone to the SEMA -- APPEX trade shows in Las Vegas. I have been helping some Chinese companies with the machines they make for the automotive world. This coming year they will come out to my shop and we will set up talks for a warehouse dist. program. I have told them that with thier manufacture cost they should use a lease program for the machines they make. They can find plenty of room in this market place to make many sells. With a market place of some 120,000 shops in the USA I believe we have a program that will work. But her is where i need the help my company is not a sells type businees. I may need help to find just how to make this type of sells work for us. Can you help us find that team??? Gordon"

SHOPIFY: The New Way To Find Winning Products Is Finally Here!

11:39
Free Software Access: https://www.dropship.ceo/software Be an affiliate and earn 25% lifetime commissions: http://bit.ly/dropship-ceo-software-affiliate The new way to find products on Shopify is finally here! GAME CHANGER #1: HOT PRODUCTS Feeling lazy? Don't worry, we've got you. We pay a team of researchers to compile the best and hottest products on the market right now. Every day we hand pick the best 2 products out of our selection, and upload them to our software in the hot products section so you can take the best ones. Never worry about finding winning products again! GAME CHANGER #2: COMPETITOR RESEARCH Don't you ever wish you could just get your top competitors, and take their newest and hottest products to sell in your own store? Wouldn't that be a little too easy? Now you can! Enter in any Shopify store into our software, and we will show you all their newest products. BONUS: When you sign up we will give you a list of the top 125 dropshippers in the world right now (ranked by who gets the most traffic), so you can enter them in our software and start stealing products from the best of the best! GAME CHANGER #3: GOOGLE SEARCH DEMAND I remember the days of doing manual keyword research, and how utterly boring it was... Those days are gone! Now when researching our hot products, or your competitors products, at just one click you can see all the search demand for that product. We show you all the hottest keywords, the monthly search volume, and even the estimated CPC for Google Ads, so you can make quick, informed decisions about what products you should be selling in your store. GAME CHANGER #4: PRICE FILTERS A huge problem with dropshipping is that it is typically hard to find products with big profit margins... until now! That's exactly why we added price filters to our software, so you can find those products that give you big margins. When searching through your competitors newest products or our hot products, with just one click you sort the products by the ones with the highest price. Now it's simple and easy to find higher priced products, that can help give that extra boost in profit to your store. GAME CHANGER #5: COMPETITOR FEED You can add your favourite competitors into something we like to call the "Feed". It's a true game changer... Every 8 hours our clever AI will scan all the Shopify stores in your feed, and grab their newest products. That means every day you can have a completely automated list of the newest products from all of your competitors ready for you, without having to lift a finger. You can then sort through the products by highest price, see the search demand, and use all our other features! GAME CHANGER #6: INSTAGRAM INFLUENCERS Some of the dropshipping OG's might remember when there used to be websites that existed to help find Instagram Influencers with ease. Unfortunately, Instagram don't allow this anymore so the most popular sites had to close down. What we are allowed to do though, is manually research the best Instagram Influencers ourselves! And that's exactly what we've done... so if you're struggling to find influencers to market your products with, then feel free to look through our database at any given time. COMING SOON: IMPORT TO SHOPIFY Soon you will be able to import products directly from our software, into your Shopify store! That means all you have to do is log into our software, browse some products, decide which ones you like and click, the product is now in your store and ready to go. Our goal with this software is to make your life easier, and save you time with clever automations, so that you can focus on what matters most which is making sales.

EP21. Melinda Coss on How to Price your Skincare Products

33:07
**Try out an award-winning Formula Botanica course by taking our free sample class: https://www.formulabotanica.com/sample-class** Knowing how to price your skincare products is one of the most important factors in getting a viable beauty business off the ground. You're passionate about natural skincare formulation, but are you guilty of shirking the numbers? It's all too easy to get our heads in the pot enjoying making skincare but forget the nuts and bolts of running and growing a business, such as profit, retail and wholesale margins. Spreadsheets not just formulae sheets should be your number one priority once you've decided to make a serious business out of your skincare products. To help talk you through the numbers and how to factor enough wiggle room into your margins, we welcome a familiar face in the skincare business world, Melinda Coss. A several times entrepreneur and pioneer in the natural beauty industry, and experienced skincare business mentor, Melinda walks us through the most important things to think about in pricing skincare products. She takes us from working out the unit cost of products to the percentages retailers and distributors might expect and which you have to factor in. We don't speak accounting jargon but we do recommend hitting replay so you can take down notes as Melinda packs in a lot of advice for new skincare entrepreneurs. This episode is a goldmine if you're currently doing back of the envelope or worse, finger in the wind accounting in working out how to price your skincare products. So get your notebook open, and dust off your ability to do percentages. However, don't worry as you're in good company; Melinda has run and sold several successful businesses and says that with some help, savvy and willingness to learn, the number crunching can become second nature. In this episode, you'll learn: -Why working out your reasons for wanting to run a skincare business are key to understanding what profits you wish to make, or, simply put, why your mindset makes your market; -How your branding and your brand's positioning in the market are critical to determining how to price your products at a level that meets consumer expectations; - Why natural and organic skincare is rarely cheap; -How a 'time and motion' analysis of every cost aspects of your activities in producing products will give you the insights on which to base pricing; -and Find out how and when it makes sense to run discounts and other incentives like 'buy one, get on free', or to offer free shipping. Melinda doesn't talk in abstract terms. She runs through some ballpark percentages that you should be aiming for when working out how to price skincare products and gives examples of other key facts and figures you need to know to run a business. Key takeouts about how to price your skincare products include: -Take time to work out what you wish or need to earn from your business in its first year. On that basis, you can make the financial and production forecasts required; -Work out in minute detail your unit costs, not forgetting to factor in your hourly rate and everything relating to packaging down to the sellotape! Then, add on 70% and you'll arrive at your base trade costs. After that, add on 7% for contingencies so you ensure you have some leeway for costs you've not envisaged up front; -and Remember that your figures are your most important tool. Business is about making money whatever the passion that lies behind it. How to price your product. Answering: how to price my product?

07:39
How to price your product and some pricing theory discussion! Take my full course on how to start a business for more discussion on how to price a product: https://www.udemy.com/how-to-start-a-business-go-from-business-idea-to-a-business/?couponCode=y For more tutorials like this tutorial with pricing theory and strategies on how to price a product, please visit http://www.problemio.com In this video I discuss some pricing theory, and explain how to price your product. Many people on my apps approach me and ask me: how do I price my product? Of course, it is difficult to answer because every business is so different. But in this video I give a pretty good overview of the theory of how to price a product in various cases and competition. If you have no competition, then you can price your product by simply experimenting with what the highest price you can charge while maintaining enough sales. But that is rarely the case. The more common case is if you are in a very competitive environment. In this case, you price your product by giving away something very cheap or free. That way you take advantage of a part of the freemium model and take people away from your customers and bring them into your business. And then you hope to convert some of those people into buyers of your more expensive products. Another interesting approach for how you should price your product is the name your own price model. In most situations it doesn't work. But there are some cases where it doesn't cost you money to have another client. So instead of turning them down because they found the price to be steep, you just let them name their own price. 7 steps to create a new product

02:50
Hi, my name is Jonathan Globerson. I'm a professional industrial designer. I'm also the CEO of GloberDesign, a product development company located in North Miami Beach in Florida. I want to tell you about the simple steps that you need to take in order to launch a new product into the market. The first thing to do is research. Do your research really good: locate your market; look who is your competition; how much are they selling their product for; what are their features; do they have any patents on it. Then you'll also do an additional patent search. That can either be done by yourself, or by a hired professional attorney or any other firm that can help you do that. Next, simply take a pen and paper and start sketching. Even if you're not the best sketcher in the world, it's fine; all you need to do is put your idea onto paper. Next, you need to create a 3D computer model. The way to do that is either hire a 3d computer artist or a 3D CAD draftsman and have them convert your beautiful sketch into a real 3D model. What they do with that? You can do with that various things. The first thing you can do with that is you can create a prototype. A prototype is the first sample of the actual product that you're having in mind. We can do it with various ways. Today we have 3D printers - they actually read a 3D computer model and they convert that into plastic parts that could be used and shown physically. The other thing that you can do with your 3D model is create patent drawings. These patent drawings you can apply for what's called a Provisional Application. That gives you 12 months of patent pending status. That's just enough time for you to start to pitch your investors, talk to buyers, talk to factories, and find out more details on how you can actually make your product come true. With the 3d computer model you also send that out to a factory, have them first sign for you what's called a Non-Disclosure Agreement, meaning anything that... information they receive, they keep it as a secret. With that you'll get real manufacturing pricing and then you can make your own business plan. So, now you know your manufacturing pricing, you can figure out what's going to wholesale for, and what is going to be the retail price. Last, start making some marketing materials. Do a sales sheet, a brochure about your product; maybe even a kickstarter campaign, or maybe just a promotional video, just so you could show people what do you have in mind and try to get more attraction. And those are really the simple steps that you need to take in order to create a new product. For more details just visit our website http://www.globerdesign.com

How to Generate Revenue from New Product Introductions

32:45
Our show today demonstrates how to commercialize technical innovation. This show suggests ways to generate revenue from new product introductions Amir and I answered questions from the new How to Your Number in 2018 Workbook to demonstrate how to fill the top of the funnel with quality opportunities by leveraging emerging best practices. Joining us today is Amir Wain, the CEO and of i2c, a payment technology company. I2c provides the infrastructure to enable companies to address the needs of the next generation of payments and commerce with personalized payment solutions. Watch as Amir demonstrates how to commercialize technical innovation. Why this topic? Technology companies are pouring millions of dollars into product development and many of these innovations are not generating enough revenue. Building cool new products is exciting, but unless they are bought at scale by prospects and customers, it's really not worth it. Amir is uniquely qualified to speak on this topic. Amir has pioneered many industry firsts, and has cracked the code on converting product development dollars into scalable revenue streams. If you plan to launch new products and need to get prospects to buy them at scale, you're going to get a lot out of today's show. In today’s show, we begin by discussing by determining which problems that are worth solving through product development. Customers have many problems, but you can't solve everything. Amir explains how to select the problems that matter to go after. Amir explains: "Every month people from customer success, compliance, engineering, service delivery, and customer service come prepared with a sequential list of items that they want the company to spend resources on in terms of product development. Each advocate their case as to why their suggestion is important, and the others get to question and challenge. Together they determine where the resources must be deployed for that month. The monthly cycle is important, because if your assessment was wrong, then you can quickly adjust and correct course." Amir’s description relies on agility to provide the courage and the capability to pivot to the next thing and keeping these cycles down to monthly sprints to keep product development pointed in the right direction. We then discuss how to fit your product to a growing market and how to do that at scale. Watch as Amir advises how to develop a strong product to market fit. "I think one thing to keep in mind is to distinguish between invention and innovation. A lot of times engineering and product teams get into the invention business, and it's cool that I've come up with this really. That's good. But can I monetize that? Can I commercialize it? That's the innovation piece." Watch the 9-minute mark of the video to watch Amir describe the difference of invention and innovation. It’s great advice on how to stress test whether a buyer is going to write a check for it or not, and that's the ultimate proof of product market fit. Amir describes how to think through the market plan and select the right routes to market. Amir begins with this quote: "The innovation adoption curve and the model of early adopters shows how people who would buy or not buy, no matter how good the product is, and what all it can mean to them unless they have validation and customer references. Depending on where you are in your product life cycle, I think recognizing it and making sure you keep adjusting and making changes to support, that is important. People who you would initially go after may not be a good fit for you later in the cycle, so the whole organization realizing that, and being prepared across your company is extremely important." Watch Amir describe the product life cycle and how to think about where the product is in its life cycle. Using that as an input, determine which products to sell, to which customers and through which channel. A fascinating discussion involves how validate value propositions for your product, and how competitive positioning fits. Amir and I discuss how to validate whether or not differentiation is real or false. From there, you have a superior product, and have the opportunity to receive a price premium

5 Mistakes New Importers Make When Importing Products from China

13:39
Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!
