Smash Hits , cult italian heavy metal / hard rock band from San Donà Di Piave (Venezia Venice) .
Founded in 1976 by Carlo Botter, Roberto Garavello, Paolo Maschietto, Sandro Ghedini (vox) and Giulio Manzetto (keyboards), they were inspired by bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow, and that kind of hard rock / hard 'n' heavy .
in 1979 they started to write their own original songs and doing some gigs (when almost all of them were still minors, their 1st and most famous concert to the Astra theater, april 1979, with 900 tickets sold out) . at the end of the same year, Sandro the vocalist and Giulio the keyboardist left , so, the band continued his great live activity as a trio. many great gigs in Jesolo, Caorle...
in 1983 finally in the band enters Stefano Montagner (vox) and Fabrizio Trevisiol (keyboards), so they started again to compose new songs.
in 1985 is ready their 1st self-released demotape, "Kneel Down To Metal" , a killer demo between the Deep Purple / Rainbow sound and the NWOBHM bands. it was recorded in an old parish in the countryside, in Santa Teresina (Venice) ; the song “Little Blonde Doll” was even passed on radio, on “Rai Stereo Uno - Master Giovani”.
in 1986, with the new vocalist Vincenzo Pellegrini , the band releases the single 7"ep "Hell in a Nightmare" , much more heavier , recorded professionally in the Celesta Records Studio in Portogruaro (Venice) and released by the label Celesta ; as for the previous demo, there were enthusiastic reviews everywhere ; the Rockerilla magazine included even 1200 copies of this ep to its heavy metal supplement magazine "Hard'N'Heavy", in september 1986.
but, in the end of 1986, because of line-up problems, wrong managerial choices, personal problems, the band decided to quit, unfortunately . they played the last gig in december 1986 at the ”Heavy Rock Festival” , to the Palasport in Arcella (Padova), with Skanners, Gow and Vanadium.
