How Doll Collectors Ruined Antique Bisque Head German & French Dolls During The 1960s-1970s

04:41
During the 1960's and 1970s well meaning doll collectors destroyed history by doing this. If you just started to collect antique bisque head dolls please don't do this because it devalues them greatly. If the original or antique clothing and wigs are in bad condition save them too.

Subscribe http://tinyurl.com/BarcroftTV twitter: https://twitter.com/Barcroft_TV Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/BarcroftMedia Doll mad Kathy Libraty is barely visible amongst her astonishing collection of antique dolls - worth a whopping £1.23m. Every inch of the 52-year-old's home is filled with over 1000 of the figures she has been collecting for over 25 years. Mum Kathy is so obsessed with dolls she now has to smuggle new editions to her hoard into her home - past her husband who said 'no more'. But along with pretty daughter Elisa, 19, even hubbie Frank, 52, gets roped in to helping her repair and organise her vast assortment. Kathy's dolls - ranging from two inches to over three feet high - come from all over the world including countries like Germany, France and the Far East. Some individual models are over 170 years old and all cost between £30,000 and a meagre 60p. Included in the range are famous figures like Henry VIII and his six wives, Victorian dolls from the 1900s, voodoo dolls, and even some from the 1880s used to smuggle opium.

Antique dolls prized by collectors

06:43
(20 Feb 2019) LEADIN: Hundreds of rare and antique dolls are on show alongside vintage Barbie and other modern favourites at Rome's Palazzo Rospigliosi. The dolls are no longer mere toys, but prized objects from European collections.   STORYLINE: Dolls have been around in one form or another for centuries. They've been made from a vast array of materials including clay, bone, soapstone, wood and porcelain, before more recently moulded in plastic. A doll can be found in almost any child's home, but to collectors who come to exhibitions like this, these objects are much more than toys. Enthusiasts regard the rarest of those that have survived as objects of art, worthy of their place in a museum. Among the exhibitors is Samy Odin manager of the Paris based Chérubins company, and a collector in his own right. Odin explains: "Antique dolls are a sector involving very different types of collectors. We are enthusiastic to see that finally there are people interested in the history of fashion, people interested mostly in the representation of childhood in all its forms, there are lovers of toys, people who like haute couture, as well as people looking for childhood mementoes." "There are many different types of materials used in the production of dolls. The most precious is probably the bisque, a type of porcelain with matt finish that has been used a lot for making doll's heads. But there are a wide variety of materials: from wood, wax, papier mâché, to felt, particularly in the Italian tradition, especially with Turin's producer Lenci who is one of the most iconic makers for today's collectors" he says. Lenci dolls were made from felt with detailed painted faces. "According to the period that is taken into consideration, there are some types of dolls more fashionable than others. Currently Parisian dolls, with their rich costumes and wardrobes, are in strong demand among collectors in the Western world. There are beautiful French creations from the last quarter of the 19th century when renowned manufacturers like Jumeau, Bru, Steiner, Gaultier made outstanding dolls for children, which have today become very valuable" adds Odin. Valuable can mean a price tag of several thousand Euros, although collectors like Odin say it's possible to start a basic collection from around dozens of Euros. Apart from the antique dolls, the exhibition also features artistic dolls. These are made by artists who've chosen to produce and paint dolls, or create miniature fashions as a way of expressing their art, and the dolls themselves have become objet d'arts. Some contemporary artists dolls featuring original costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries are particularly sought after according to collector and doll creator Paky Portera. "Modern artistic dolls are different from antique ones. (They're) for those who love dolls, but prefer something that you can touch more, (which are) perhaps less fragile. In any case, they're usually made of porcelain and represent a big market for collectors. Some of my pieces are on show in the Victoria and  Albert Museum and in the Kremlin Museum. In any case they're objects with an historical background, modelled according to specific periods in history." The world's most famous doll Barbie is also celebrated.   Mattel started producing the dolls 1959 and in the first year, managed to sell around 350,000 pieces. The exhibition claims Barbie is the most sold doll in the world. Repairing a doll could have an impact on its value to collectors. Huret is best known for being one of the first French companies (along with Rohmer) to produce fashion dolls. These first poupees were produced in the 1850s. Maison Huret was one of the most exclusive makers of French Fashion dolls and costumes and accessories--in fact, the creations of Adelaide Huret are so highly thought of by collectors today Huret dolls and items are very expensive--poupees marked Huret easily can cost over $15,000, and even accessories marked Huret can top $1,000. Celebrating high fashion and vintage dolls

04:57
(2 Jul 2018) LEADIN: Doll enthusiasts have been giving fashion a mini makeover at a new London festival. For many of them dolls, and what they wear, is proving to be a lasting and often profitable passion. STORYLINE Whether it's fantasy outfits, 60s styles, or historical costumes, these mini models have got it all covered. The London Fashion Doll Festival is a new event in the UK bringing together doll designers and collectors from across the world. They are all devoted to fashion dolls - plastic figurines designed to be dressed up in various outfits. Barbie is one of the best known fashion dolls, but there are a whole host of others that are aimed at adult collectors just as much as children. Ibrahim Ismail is one of the organisers and he's very proud of this doll dressed in a nurse's outfit. "This is a reproduction doll of a vintage doll that I collect, but I haven't brought along the vintage dolls with me, they're worth quite a lot of money at the moment," he says. "Julia is based on a character played by Diahann Carroll in the late 60s and she was the first African American actress to play a lead role in the US at that time and this doll is based on her, so it's the first celebrity doll that was brought out." Attention to detail is vital to getting the fashion doll look just right and clothes and accessories like these bags and bangles are handmade to create the perfect look. Another organiser is Simon Farnworth. He says doll collecting is growing more popular with adults, whereas children's interest in these toys is waning. "I think one of the main reasons that children are not collecting dolls or buying dolls as much and adults are is that children these days are more computer-focused, they view dolls as old fashioned and also because a lot of the child dolls are aimed at very young children rather than older children as Barbie used to be, with fashions and a bit more updated rather than fantasy dolls that Barbie can be now," he says. "With the adult dolls you can get absolutely any range of doll you like whether it's high fashion, whether it's general fashion, whether it's fantasy, so there is I think a lot more aimed at adults." And some of the dolls here are clearly dressed in outfits that are more suitable for older tastes. The broad range of themes is what make these fashion dolls so intriguing. There's a high fashion depiction of Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter's Tea Party, with its very own tea party accessories. The tea party theme is not just for the dolls either: organisers are providing afternoon tea for visitors included in their entry fee. Visitors say the festival is more than just a chance to see collections of toys. "The reason this festival is so special for me is because you get to meet all these people who you've maybe just spoken to on the internet or seen their pictures and then you see them in person and you get to talk about what you love and you make new friends," says Joe Santall. Much of the day is spent socialising with other like-minded enthusiasts, and some visitors like Jodie Payne even dress up like their favourite dolls. Payne says she doesn't know what it is about the dolls that captures her imagination, but there's no doubt that she's got the bug. With so much colour, attention to detail and a vast array of fashions, it is not difficult to see why these toys are appealing to grown ups. The London Fashion Doll Festival took place on 30th June 2018 at the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood in London. Antique French Fashion Doll Gloves with Original Buttons

00:59
A petite pair of fashion doll gloves found in Paris and dated to circa 1870. They are 2 1/2 inches long. The original buttons are in place. The fabric is free from any damage. There are two ink stains on one glove: on the little finger and on the rear cuff hem. She was obviously a little careless when writing her letters. I have turned out the thumbs so you can see the original color which is a pale mauve color. I have also opened up the gauntlet so you can see the lining and the detail of the sewing work that was undertaking in making such a petite pair of gloves. In the nineteenth century small delicate hands were a sign of great beauty and many women had gloves a size too small in the hope of shrinking their hands. This pair of petite gloves were obviously belonging to a very beautiful lady as her hands were so fine. Have you such a lady waiting to own these and add to her beauty?

Creepy Antique German & French Bisque Head Dolls from the Victorian Era not Haunted

04:02
https://www.etsy.com/shop/FuturesPastBoutique **Interesting Long Island Medium (Theresa Caputo) story below** Most of my friends and family hate coming to my house because they are afraid of my antique dolls and think they are haunted by ghosts. They think my dolls are watching them and I get a few laughs from that. Nothing weird, creepy or paranormal has ever happened and I do not think they are haunted. The only person that ever said anything pertaining to ghosts was Theresa Caputo the Long Island Medium who came to my house for a reading. She said the spirits of the children from Long Ago who once owned these dolls were thanking me for taking care of them. The weird part was that I never told her they were antique and from the 1800's. Even Theresa was creeped out by them, lol.
