15 FASTEST Animals in the Ocean
From the elusive mahi mahi, to the fast black marlin, these are the 15 FASTEST animals in the ocean Orca Whale -- also known as a Killer Whale, Orcas aren’t whales at all. They’re more closely related to dolphins. They’re found in oceans worldwide but seem to prefer the colder waters of the North Atlantic and Antarctica. Orcas have been clocked at speeds up to 30 mph, though they turn on an additional burst of speed when chasing certain prey. They have only one predator, and that’s humans. Swordfish -- This aptly named fish are known for their sword like bills. That, along with their streamlined shape, allows them to easily cut through the water. they can and can thrust and parry with the best of them. When leaping, they’ve been observed to reach 60 mph. Did you know The size of swordfish eyes can be the size of a softball? In 2012 one of those eyes washed up on a Florida beach and created a big mystery as to what kind of creature it belonged to. Ever wonder if maybe one swordfish poked out the eye of another swordfish? Pilot Whale -- These mammoth marine animals can weigh as much as 3 tons and males can reach up to 25 feet long. They tend to favor deep waters and are known to be intelligent and highly social, often forming in groups of 100. These whales are known for their deep diving ability, and prey on large squids. They’ve been clocked at 47 mph when leaping. Wahoo -- This fish is known for its great strength and speed, having been observed to attain speeds from 48 to 60 mph! No surprise it’s one of the fastest of all known fish. Their speed is enhanced by bladelike fins that allow it to slice through the water. They’re recognized for their aggression and for their teeth, which are razor-sharp. They’re known as excellent gaming fish and for their excellent taste when cooked. Yellowfin Tuna -- This species of Tuna can reach speeds up to 50 mph. Did you ever think a Tuna could swim that fast ... even Charlie Tuna? They have some heft, too weighing up to 440 pounds and measuring up to 8 feet in length. The Yellowfin Tuna is also known as one of the fastest and strongest predators in the open ocean. Sailfish -- With speeds up to 68 mph, the Sailfish ranks as one of the fastest marine animals. To be fair, that speed includes the Sailfish leaping into the air. It moves faster while leaping than it does while swimming. They’re recognized by their blue-gray coloring, and for their elongated, needlelike bill. Their name comes from the erectile dorsal fin that looks like a sail. At some 220 pounds and measuring 10 feet long, these creatures are pretty much built for speed. Did you know that if the Sailfish swam a 200-meter race, it would clock a time under 10 seconds! Michael Phelps is an Olympic gold medal swimmer and his best time was about 1.42 minutes, which works out to 4.7 mph. That would leave a lot of human swimmers all wet! Marlin -- This species of Marlin is found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The largest marlins have measured over 15 feet long and weighed over 1600 pounds. They’ve been clocked at speeds of up to 80 mph which would make them one of fastest of all fish. Bear in mind, that speed is an estimate, and refers to the speed with which hooked marlins can unwind fishing line. More often than not, the Marlins speed is estimated at 50 mph. They’re also a highly sought after game fish and are fished commercially. Atlantic Bluefin Tuna -- You thought the Yellowfin Tuna was big? Meet its cousin … this species of tuna can reach a massive size of 1500 pounds and measure up to 15 feet long … that’s some tuna. But despite its impressive size, this fish can reach speeds up to 45 mph! It turns on the jets when pursuing prey like red crab or anchovies … or escaping from fishermen who want to turn it into lunch! Humans -- Okay, so humans aren’t sea creatures. But we’re throwing in our noble species for the sake of perspective. How do humans rank against some of the fastest sea creatures in the world. Short answer: Not good. Even our fastest swimmers can manage a mere 5 miles per hour. So, obviously, humans will not rank anywhere amongst the fastest things in the ocean. But let’s not feel too bad … After all, humans are still faster than the Dwarf Seahorse. That slowpoke can only manage 0.01 mph … so, hey ... feel good about that! Mahi-Mahi or Dolphin Fish -- One of the most visually arresting fish in the sea, the Mahi Mahi Bears unique metallic green and blue colors with black, blue, or green spots. Its forked tail and sleek body allow it to reach speeds up to 40 mph. Did you know the name Mahi Mahi means ‘very strong’ in Hawaiian. Worlds Fastest Animals Compared - Which is Fastest?
1. Peregrine Falcon - Birds have something of an advantage when it comes to speed, for obvious reasons. The peregrine falcon is particularly swift, capable of reaching speeds of up to 200 mph while at a dive, making it a fearsome hunter. The rest of the time it does not fly this fast, but that hardly matters to its prey. It is the fastest animal on the planet when in a dive. 2. Frigate Bird This spectacular avian makes the peregrine falcon look slow by comparison. It can reach speeds of up to 95 miles per hour—much faster than you drive on the highway. It has the largest wingspan to body weight ratio and can stay in the air for intensely long periods. Sometimes these birds do not touch down for over week at a time. How’s that for speed and endurance? 3. Sail Fish What is the fastest sea animal? That honor goes to the sail fish, which can read speeds up to 68 miles per hour—again possibly faster than you are used to driving on the highway. Can you imagine a fish racing alongside your vehicle and keeping up with you? That’s one fast sea animal. The characteristic sail is used when the fish is frightened in order to intimidate threatening animals. The rest of the time, it is kept folded up. 4. Cheetah The fastest animal in the world is of course the cheetah. This animal is actually only slightly faster than the pronghorn antelope, and can reach speeds of up to 61 miles per hour. This record was set by an 11 year old cheetah in 2012 named Sarah. Unlike most of the other animals on this list, the cheetah is a predator. It represents a serious threat to animals on this list that inhabit the same geographic areas (not just grasslands, but forest environments as well). The cheetah is a sprinter, not a long distance runner, but pairs agility with speed for deadly attack runs. Cheetahs are also very fast accelerators, and can ramp up their speed four times faster than human beings can. They can also pull to a stop extremely fast. It is also interesting to note that the speed and agility of the cheetah is not matched by strength. The cheetah is fairly fragile and will lose in most fights with other predators. As a result, they will quickly surrender prey to competitors. An injured cheetah may not be able to run quickly, which can put its life in danger. 5. Pronghorn Antelope This antelope takes second place among land animals for speed. It can easily out-sprint most predators at speeds as high as 60 miles per hour. Interestingly enough, a pronghorn antelope is not actually an old world antelope, and is native to North America. Actual antelopes are quite fast as well, but not as fast as the pronghorn. Also curious is the fact that the pronghorn is far faster than the predators which inhabit North America. This seems to indicate that it evolved its great speed at some point in the past under the threat of a now-extinct predator, perhaps the American cheetah. The pronghorn has a number of special adaptations that allow it to function at high speeds, including cushioned, pointed toes to absorb shock, and extra large organs that assist with air intake. 6. Blue Wildebeest Another swift land animal which also inhabits the plains is the blue wildebeest. They are not quite as fast as the pronghorn, but are still pretty impressive at around 50 miles per hour. 7. Lion Unfortunately for the blue wildebeest, the lion’s fastest speed almost exactly matches. Lions can chase down their prey at around 50 miles per hour, making them extremely deadly predators on the plains. 8. Thomson’s Gazelle This is another creature in the same category as wildebeests and lions, also capable of running at around 50 miles per hour. Chases between lions and cheetahs and gazelles can be quite intense as a result of the close speed matching. Unfortunately for Thomson’s gazelles, they are the preferred prey of cheetahs, the fastest animal on our list. 9. Brown Hare One of the smallest animals on our list is the brown hare. This little creature can run extremely fast, reaching speeds of up to 47 miles per hour. The story of the tortoise and the hare is famous for a reason. Hares really are incredibly fast creatures, and they are capable of outrunning the majority of other animals. 10. Elk There are a number of animals which run faster than the elk, but the elk deserves a mention because it is a good deal larger and less “swift” looking than a gazelle or antelope. Elks can be quite large, but their size and build should not deceive you. The elk is capable of running at speeds as high as 45 miles per hour. Do not make an elk angry. If it charges you, it is going to win. Music: Return of the Inventor (Original Mix) https://dhruvaaliman.bandcamp.com/album/the-wolf-and-the-river http://www.dhruvaaliman.com/

8 Fastest Swimming Sea Creatures
See the world's 8 fastest swimming sea creatures & other fish at top speed such as the blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, sharks, dolphins, and whales. Subscribe for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR Number 8: Yellowfin tuna The yellowfin tuna is a species of tuna that usually lives in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide, and is generally found in deep offshore waters. It’s one of the larger species of tuna, reaching weights over 400 lb, but is smaller than the Pacific and Atlantic bluefin tunas, which can grow up 1000 lb. Number 7 The Pilot whale Pilot whales are closely related to dolphins, and they exhibit advanced intelligence and social skills. There are two species of pilot whales: shortfinned and long-finned. Although they are not distinguishable at sea, there are some differences between the two. Long-finned pilot whales prefer slightly cooler waters, and are divided into populations found in the Southern Ocean and the North Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea. The short-finned pilot whales live in temperate and tropical waters, and they are found in the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Both feed primarily on squid, octopus, cuttlefish and other fish like Atlantic cod, Atlantic herring, and Atlantic mackerel. Number 6 The Mako Shark Mako sharks, also known as blue pointers or bonito sharks, may be found in waters all over the world. They are adapt to survive in cold water, but inhabit all temperate waters, with larger concentrations in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans — and also in the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Both short-fin and long-fin mako sharks are fast swimmers, but the short-fin mako shark is on record as the fastest-swimming shark, reaching up to 46 MPH 46 mph when executing bursts of speed. This occurs when they are hunting or when they feel threatened. Short-fin mako sharks measure an average 10 feet in length and weighs anywhere from 100 to 300 pounds. Number 5 Bonefish Bonefish usually live in tropical and subtropical shallow waters, and can be found throughout the Caribbean Sea, from Hawaii to Peru, to San Francisco Bay in the Pacific. They have an elongated body, with silver skin and dusky, yellow, pectoral fins. They can weigh up to 19 lb and grow up to 35 in long. Number 4 Barracuda Barracudas are snake-looking-like fish that live in saltwater, in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide, ranging from the Atlantic Ocean, to the Red Sea and Caribbean Sea. They usually swim near the top of the water and near coral reefs and sea grasses. Number 3 Dolphinfish The dolphinfish, also known as mahi-mahi, is found in off-shore temperate, tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. It has a compressed body with a single long-based dorsal fin which extends from the head almost to the tail. Its skin is vividly colored with bright blues and greens and golden on the sides and back. The mahi-mahi is easy to recognize by its iridescent blue pectoral fins. Its name, mahi-mahi, comes from Hawaiian word mahi which means very strong. Specimens can reach up to 3.2 ft in length and weigh an average 29 lb. They have a lifespan of maximum five years, but they rarely exceed four. Mahi-mahi are among the fastest animal in the ocean, reaching up to 57.5 mph while swimming. Number 2 Swordfish The swordfish is recognizable by its long, sword-like bill, and its elongated body. It is usually found in tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans, and usually swim near the surface of the water, to a depth of 1,800 ft. Swordfish usually reach an average 9.8 ft in length, with a reported maximum of 14.9 ft. Despite being a large fish and weighing up to 1,430 lb, members of this species may reach a swimming speed of up to 60 mph. They use their speed and agility in water in order to catch the prey and injure it with their bill, in order to make for an easier catch. They feed on other fish such as herring, silver hake, barracudas, rockfish, mackerel or lanternfish, but might also take crustaceans, squid or fish. Number 1 Blue marlin/Billfish The blue marlin is member of a group of predatory fish that live in all oceans, in temperate waters, and although there is a superficial resemblance to the swordfish, they are from different families. The species is also characterized by prominent spear-like snouts, or bills, as the name may suggest. Another distinctive feature is a long rigid dorsal fin, which can extend to form a crest. Some specimens are known for being longer than 13 ft and can weigh up to 1800 lb. However, the blue marlin is best known for being the fastest fish known to man. It can grow up to 7 ft in length and weigh approximately 260 pounds, with an average speed of about 68 miles per hour. Also known as Billfish, they usually swim in at the surface of the ocean, sticking to the top levels of the water.

Strangest, Coldest, Hottest, Fastest, Rarest Sea Creatures
Oceans cover two-thirds of our planet. While they appear to harbor an inexhaustible supply of food, humans have overfished and polluted them with climate changing gases that make the waters acidic and less productive. This is the underlying theme that runs through a new book by a scientist and his novelist son called The Extreme Life of the Sea. VOA’s Rosanne Skirble caught up with them at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington. Originally published at - http://www.voanews.com/media/video/2412595.html

BIGGEST Sea Creatures Around The World!
Check out the biggest sea creatures around the world! This top 10 list of largest ocean animals on earth features some crazy monsters lurking in the deep sea! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "Most TERRIFYING Sea Monsters Ever!" video here: https://youtu.be/B9aPB6KB504 Watch our "CREEPY Fish From The Deep Sea!" video here: https://youtu.be/IjbRmTvO1_g Watch our "Most MYSTERIOUS Ocean Facts!" video here: https://youtu.be/BzrlpgRVPQg 10.) Fin Whale The fin whale is the second largest creature on Earth after the blue whale. It has been severely affected by commercial whaling and now it is rare to see one. If you have seen one, consider yourself lucky! They can grow as long as 89 feet (27 m) in length and can weigh between 40 to 80 tons! The maximum ever recorded weighed in at 114 tons!! They can live to be over 100 years old if left alone. The fin whale’s body is built for speed and it can even go faster than the fastest ocean steamship. It’s capable of speeds of up to 37 km/h but can go short bursts of even 47 km/h, earning it the nickname “greyhound of the sea”. Fin Whales have a very unique coloring with the right underside of their jaw, right lip, and the right side of their baleen being a yellowish-white, while the left-side is gray, making them look asymmetrical. Fun fact, fin whales and blue whales make the lowest frequency sounds of any animals. When they were first recorded by submarines, scientists thought they were tectonic plates grinding. Kind of makes you wonder about what is causing other mysterious ocean sounds! 9.) Portuguese Man of War While this is often considered a jellyfish, the Portuguese man-of-war is actually not an “it” but a “they”! It is made up of a colony of organisms called polyps that work together known as a siphonophore. While the tentacles can extend 165 feet (50 m), the average is about 30 feet (9 m) long. Still nothing to scoff at!! Also known as “the floating terror”, their body is between 5 inches to a foot wide (13 cm- 130 cm). They are usually found in groups of about a thousand or more, and have no independent means of movement. They either drift on the currents or catch the wind, so even though you should be super careful of jellyfish, they aren’t ever out to get you on purpose! The tentacles on a man-of-war are extremely venomous and very painful if you get stung but they are rarely deadly. The venom is typically used to paralyze their prey, such as small fish and other smaller creatures. Also keep in mind that a man-of-war does not need to be alive in order to give off a powerful sting, even if it has washed up on shore and looks dead, it can still sting you! The Portuguese man-of-war floats around the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Indian and Pacific. So keep an eye out if you are swimming around these areas! 8.) Giant Clam The giant clam is the largest living bivalve mollusk on earth. (Bivalve mollusks include clams, oysters, and mussels). Native to the warm waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, giant clams are capable of growing an average of 4 feet (1 m) in length and weighing close to 500 pounds (250 kg)! However, some species of clams have been known to grow as long as 6 feet. The large majority of a giant clam’s mass is in its shell, with the soft parts accounting for only approximately 10% of the weight. Giant clams are now endangered because they apparently are also quite delicious and have been hunted for centuries for its healthy protein. The giant clam has one chance to find its perfect home because once it chooses its spot, it stays there for the rest of its life. They can live up to 100 years or more, as long as they are in the wild. Most of the giant clams you see today have been raised in captivity and are really popular in large aquariums. Giant clams achieve their enormous proportions by consuming the sugars and proteins produced by the billions of algae that live in their tissues. This symbiotic relationship protects the algae and they are responsible for the unique coloration. No two giant clams are alike! 7.) Great White Shark According to National Geographic, great white sharks are the largest predatory fish in the world. They grow to an average of 15 feet (4.6 m) in length. However, there have been some who have grown to 20 feet (6 m) in length! In fact, the largest Great White Shark ever recorded in the wild was estimated to be 26 feet long, which is more than half the length of a basketball court. Combine this with a bunch of teeth, and this is why people get so scared. They are known to weigh up to 5,000 pounds (2268 kg). The heaviest Great White Shark ever recorded in the wild was estimated to weigh in at a whopping 7,328 pounds. . World's Fastest Animals!
From speedy big cats … to lightning quick fish and birds … we take a look at Cheetahs and the Fastest Animals in the World. Subscribe to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife #8 Sailfish (68 mph) One of the fastest marine animals, these creatures can sail along at speeds of around 68 mph. They might have to put an asterisk by that number though. The creature’s speed was arrived at during a series of tests conducted in Florida. During that time, the sailfish swam and leaped around 300 feet within 3 seconds … which was reckoned to be equivalent to a speed of 68 mph. The speed includes those leaps, and it moves faster while leaping than it does while swimming. Just so you know. You can guess their name is inspired by the erectile dorsal fin, which has a sail-like appearance and stretches down their back. They are easily recognized by that, as well as by their long, needlelike bill, and their grayish-blue coloration. Weighing about 200 pounds and measuring close to 10 feet long, they are actually referred to as ‘Billfish’ in the sports-fishing community. #7 Cheetah (70 mph) If this were list of the fastest animals found only on land, the list would end right here. The Cheetah is well known for its blazing speeds, and has been documented to reach a peak velocity of 70 miles per hour in short bursts. Weighing about 160 pounds and measuring about 5 feet long, it’s one of the smaller big cats, although it seems to be built for speed. Their range extends from southern and eastern Africa, and areas of Iran. Aside from its speed and hunting prowess, the cheetah is best known for its coat, which displays nearly 2,000 solid black spots, which sometimes makes it mistaken for a leopard. Those spots form patterns unique to the individual, and serve to identify each cheetah.… kind of how fingerprints identify humans. On average, cheetahs will maintain a speed of about 40 mph. Did you know they can accelerate from zero to 60 (mph) in less than 3 seconds? That’s better than a (2017) Acura NSX, which can sell for more than $150,000! Makes you wonder why there aren’t any cars named after the Cheetah. #6 Black Marlin (80 mph) The largest specimens of this fish have weighed in excess of 1,600 pounds and measured more than 15 feet long. You wouldn’t necessarily think of such a big fish moving through the water so fast … but the Black Marlin is among the fastest fish out there. With speeds clocked at up to 80 miles per hour, they’re one of the fastest animals in the world. Now, that speed was actually arrived at measuring the velocity at which a hooked specimen unwound a fishing line. More often, the Marlin cruises at a speed of around 50 mph. Thanks to their size and speed, though, these animals are highly prized as game fish, and are fished commercially. And just an FYI, that’ll do it for the fastest animals found on land or in the water. Our final four subjects all have wings and do their speeding in the skies.
