SQL Date Comparison - How to filter Datetime in SQL Server - SQL Training Online

08:41
http://www.sqltrainingonline.com SQL Date Comparison - How to filter Datetime in SQL Server - SQL Training Online In this video, I show you how to do a SQL Date Comparison in SQL Server when your Datetime has an actual time in it. I also include the latest trick that will make this easier if you are using SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012. How do you compare a Datetime in SQL Server? A SQL Datetime stores both Date and Time. So when you are filtering using the SQL Where clause, you have to know if you Datetime is storing the time also. Let's take a look at the employee table in SQL Training Online Simple DB The column we are looking at is the hire date. I want to go after the person who was hired on February, 22 2005. So, I use the following SQL. select * from employee where hire_date='02/22/2005' Now, this works because we don't have any times stored in this column. But, if I change the record from 2005-02-22 00:00:00.000 to 2005-02-22 08:22:25.000 and rerun the query, you see that I don't get any results. That is because the value of 02/22/2005 is really 2005-02-22 00:00:00.000 and I just changed the hire_date to include a time other than 00:00:00.000. So, I have to tweak my query to use a greater than and less than sign. This works. But, to really understand what is going on, let me show you what SQL Server really sees. There are other ways, and in this StackOverflow article you can read more about these other ways. But, I want to point out a few. If you are working in SQL Server 2005 or earlier, the following is supposed to be the fastest performing way to do this. select datediff(dd,0, hire_date),* from employee where dateadd(dd,0, datediff(dd,0, hire_date)) = '2005-02-22' But, if you are working in SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012, they have introduced an actual Date datatype that doesn't include the Time portion. Since this is the case, you can use the CAST function to remove the time from the Datetime. Here is the SQL to do that. select * from employee where CAST(hire_date AS Date) = '2005-02-22' And that's it. If you enjoy the video, please give it a like, comment, or subscribe to my channel. Oracle CURRENT_TIMESTAMP Function

02:37
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/ The Oracle CURRENT_TIMESTAMP function will display the current date and time in the session time zone. Just like the CURRENT_DATE function, it uses the session time zone, which is where you logged in from. This could be different to the database time zone. The syntax of the CURRENT_TIMESTAMP function is: CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ( [precision] ) The return type of this function is TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE. The precision parameter is optional, and it lets you specify the number of fractional seconds to return. If this is omitted, it uses the default of 6. It’s different to the SYSTIMESTAMP function, because CURRENT_TIMESTAMP returns the session timezone, and SYSTIMESTAMP returns the database time zone. So, if I’m logging in from Melbourne, Australia, and the database is in London, England, then the CURRENT_TIMESTAMP will return a date and time that’s 10 hours ahead of SYSTIMESTAMP, and in a different time zone. It may be on the same day, or it could be a different day, depending on when I run the function. You can perform arithmetic on this function just like any other date value (e.g. CURRENT_TIMESTAMP - 7 for 7 days ago). However, it might be better to use interval data types so you can keep the original data type. For more information about the Oracle CURRENT_TIMESTAMP function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/

Oracle ADD_MONTHS Function

03:15
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-add_months/ The Oracle ADD_MONTHS allows you to add a specified number of months to a date value, and return the new date value. It’s great for performing calculations on dates, or date arithmetic, which can be hard in many different programming languages. The syntax of the ADD_MONTHS function is: ADD_MONTHS ( input_date, number_months ) The function returns a DATE value. The parameters of this function are: - input_date (mandatory): This is the starting date, or the date that you will add a number of months to. - number_months (mandatory): This is an integer value that represents the number of months to add to input_date. The input_date can be any datetime value, or even a character value that can be converted to a date. Also, the number_months can be any number value, or a character value that can be converted to a number. What if the number of days in the two months are different? For example, adding a month to Jan 31 could result in Feb 31, which does not exist. Well, in this case, Oracle would work out that the date does not exist, and use the last date of the month (e.g. Feb 28). You can also provide a negative value for ADD_MONTHS to subtract months from the specified date. For more information about the Oracle ADD_MONTHS function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-add_months/

How to Use MySQL Date and Time Functions

02:21
Follow this step by step easy tutorial to learn how to use MySQL date and time functions and see how to modify the time formats. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ There are various functions which can be used for calculating the date and time in MySQL but for the purpose of this tutorial we will use 3 primary functions for date and time each. For this tutorial, we will be using SQL YOG as an instance of MySQL.  Step 1- Current Date Let's start with MySQL date functions. For that write the following query: select curdate(); and press F5 to execute. It will show the current date of the system. Curdate is a short form of current date. Step 2-Changing date format Now if we want to view the date in a specific format, we can use a function called the date_format(). Write "date_format" function in a similar pattern as before, but this time inside the parentheses, we will write the date within single quotation marks and then specify the required format in single quotations after a comma. Here we are using W for week, M for Month and Y for years which are implicit format specified in the MySQL environment, and used with a percentage sign. The actual query would be: select date_format('2013-04-18','%W %M %Y'); Step 3- Viewing Name of the Day In MySQL date functions library, there is a method which can return the day name, when given the date as its perimeter. It is called "dayname" function. To use that, write dayname(), following the "select" keyword, and specify the date within single quotes inside the parenthesis. The query would be: select dayname('1998-04-25'); Step 4- Time Functions Now let's move on to mysql time functions First of all let's find out the current time. For that, we will write curtime(),which stands for the current time, and write the query in the same way as we did for the current date. Hence the query would be: select curtime(); Step 5- Changing time format Now let's see how we can change the format of the output. For that, use the time_format() function, as we did for the date format. Write the following query in the editor: select time_format('14:28:18','%h : %i : %s'); Over here, h, i and s are used for hours, minutes and seconds respectively. Step 6- Changing Time to Seconds In MyQL time functions library, there are various functions related to time. One of them which is widely used by programmers is the time_to_sec() function. This method changes the given time to seconds. To use this, write time_to_sec() and specify the time inside the parentheses within single quotes. In the Query Editor, write: select time_to_sec('14:28:18'); When we execute the query, we can see that the time being displayed is in seconds. Step 7- Date along with Time Lastly, to display the current date and time altogether, we can use now() function along with the select keyword. Write: select now(); in the query editor and execute it. And this was all about MySQL date & time functions.

Purging Old Files in Linux

05:41
By combining the Linux "find" command with "mtime" and "rm", you can remove files older than a specified number of days. This can be really handy when dealing with incremental backups. Please be careful running a code like this since if it is run in the wrong folder, you could lose some important files. But if following the example correctly, you can maintain a backup folder quite well from a simple cronjob.

Temporal Database in Hindi

05:54
A temporal database is a database with built-in support for handling data involving time, being related to the slowly changing dimension concept, for example a temporal data model and a temporal version of Structured Query Language (SQL). More specifically the temporal aspects usually include valid time and transaction time. These attributes can be combined to form bitemporal data. Valid time is the time period during which a fact is true in the real world. Transaction time is the time period during which a fact stored in the database was known. Bitemporal data combines both Valid and Transaction Time. It is possible to have timelines other than Valid Time and Transaction Time, such as Decision Time, in the database. In that case the database is called a multitemporal database as opposed to a bitemporal database. However, this approach introduces additional complexities such as dealing with the validity of (foreign) keys. Temporal databases are in contrast to current databases (at term that doesn't mean, currently available databases, some do have temporal features, see also below), which store only facts which are believed to be true at the current time. Temporal databases supports System-maintained transaction time. With the development of SQL and its attendant use in real-life applications, database users realized that when they added date columns to key fields, some issues arose. For example, if a table has a primary key and some attributes, adding a date to the primary key to track historical changes can lead to creation of more rows than intended. Deletes must also be handled differently when rows are tracked in this way. In 1992, this issue was recognized but standard database theory was not yet up to resolving this issue, and neither was the then-newly formalized SQL-92 standard. Richard Snodgrass proposed in 1992 that temporal extensions to SQL be developed by the temporal database community. In response to this proposal, a committee was formed to design extensions to the 1992 edition of the SQL standard (ANSI X3.135.-1992 and ISO/IEC 9075:1992); those extensions, known as TSQL2, were developed during 1993 by this committee.[3] In late 1993, Snodgrass presented this work to the group responsible for the American National Standard for Database Language SQL, ANSI Technical Committee X3H2 (now known as NCITS H2). The preliminary language specification appeared in the March 1994 ACM SIGMOD Record. Based on responses to that specification, changes were made to the language, and the definitive version of the TSQL2 Language Specification was published in September, 1994[4] An attempt was made to incorporate parts of TSQL2 into the new SQL standard SQL:1999, called SQL3. Parts of TSQL2 were included in a new substandard of SQL3, ISO/IEC 9075-7, called SQL/Temporal.[3] The TSQL2 approach was heavily criticized by Chris Date and Hugh Darwen.[5] The ISO project responsible for temporal support was canceled near the end of 2001. As of December 2011, ISO/IEC 9075, Database Language SQL:2011 Part 2: SQL/Foundation included clauses in table definitions to define "application-time period tables" (valid time tables), "system-versioned tables" (transaction time tables) and "system-versioned application-time period tables" (bitemporal tables). A substantive difference between the TSQL2 proposal and what was adopted in SQL:2011 is that there are no hidden columns in the SQL:2011 treatment, nor does it have a new data type for intervals; instead two date or timestamp columns can be bound together using a PERIOD FOR declaration. Another difference is replacement of the controversial (prefix) statement modifiers from TSQL2 with a set of temporal predicates. For illustration, consider the following short biography of a fictional man, John Doe: John Doe was born on April 3, 1975 in the Kids Hospital of Medicine County, as son of Jack Doe and Jane Doe who lived in Smallville. Jack Doe proudly registered the birth of his first-born on April 4, 1975 at the Smallville City Hall. John grew up as a joyful boy, turned out to be a brilliant student and graduated with honors in 1993. After graduation he went to live on his own in Bigtown. Although he moved out on August 26, 1994, he forgot to register the change of address officially. It was only at the turn of the seasons that his mother reminded him that he had to register, which he did a few days later on December 27, 1994. Although John had a promising future, his story ends tragically. John Doe was accidentally hit by a truck on April 1, 2001. The coroner reported his date of death on the very same day.
