Calculating EOQ - Economic Order Quantity (Inventory Costs & Purchasing Costs)
http://www.driveyoursuccess.com This video explains how to calculate economic order quantity using the time-tested Wilson EOQ formula. The video provides a step-by-step process to defining the economic order quantity for any company. It takes into consideration the company's annual or yearly consumption, the price it pays for each unit it purchases for its inventory, the cost to make that purchase and finally, the company's costs to hold inventory on a monthly basis. Determining the annual or yearly consumption is fairly straightforward. Simply take a total of all the inventory of a given part used in a year. Next, take the amount your company pays for that part or raw material. Determining your company's costs to purchase doesn't merely involve totaling your total volume multiplied by price. Instead, it's more about defining what it costs your company to make a purchase. How much does it cost your company to purchase from a vendor? Your costs to purchase include time spent to approve and sign purchase requisitions. It also includes the time spent placing that order and sending it to your vendor. Next, the costs of inspecting the order are accounted for and finally, the costs of paying your vendor. The Wilson EOQ formula involves doubling your yearly consumption total and multiplying it by your company's cost to purchase. This amount is then divided by the sum of the raw material or part's price multiplied by its inventory holding costs. The Wilson EOQ formula is an excellent tool for making sure your company doesn't buy too much or too little.

(src: tesla.com) The sun provides more than enough energy in just one hour to supply our planet’s energy needs for an entire year. Your home can capture this free, abundant energy source through rooftop solar tiles, turning sunlight into electricity for immediate use or storage in a Powerwall battery. // History of the Tesla Solar Roof (src: wikipedia) In the August 2016 earnings call, Elon Musk preannounced that Solar City would be introducing a new product where the photovoltaic electrical energy generating devices and system would make up an entire roof surface, rather than merely be the mounting of solar panels on an existing roof, stating "It’s not a thing on a roof. It is the roof,"[53] as solar energy systems have generally been designed and installed during the early decades of terrestrial solar power.[54] Assorted styles of solar roof tiles, made of glass, were unveiled at Universal Studios' Colonial Street backlot street set in late October 2016. Also unveiled was the Tesla Powerwall 2, a home battery product designed to store surplus power, either from the tiles or from the grid.[55] Consumer Reports compared the estimated economy of solar roofs to traditional roofing.[56][57] // What is a Tesla Powerwall? (src: wikipedia) The Powerwall and Powerpack are rechargeable lithium-ion battery stationary energy storage products manufactured by Tesla Motors. The Powerwall is intended for home use and stores electricity for solar self-consumption, time of use load shifting, backup power, and off-the-grid use.[1] The larger Powerpack is intended for commercial or electric utility grid use and can be used for peak shaving, load shifting, backup power, demand response, microgrids, renewable power integration, frequency regulation, and voltage control. Announced in 2015, with a pilot demonstration of 500 units built and installed during 2015, production of the product was initially at the Tesla Fremont factory before being moved to the under construction Gigafactory 1 in Nevada.[2] The second generation of both products were announced in October 2016. // What is Tesla? (src: wikipedia) Tesla Motors (often shortened to Tesla) is an American automaker and energy storage company co-founded by Elon Musk, Martin Eberhard, Marc Tarpenning, JB Straubel and Ian Wright, and is based in Palo Alto, California. The company specializes in electric cars and their powertrain components and also produces battery charging equipment.[7][8][9] // How to pronounce Tesla The word 'Tesla' actually falls outside the guidelines for |s| pronunciation in English. If the 's' follows a vowel or a voiced consonant it is generally pronounced |z|. For example - acquisition - busy - cosy - cousin - design - desire - disease - easy - museum - music - opposite - pleasant - position - positive - presence - present - president - prison - proposal - reason - reserve - resident - resist - resolve - result - season - visit - user source: http://teflpedia.com/IPA_phoneme_/z/

Management & Cost Accounting: Cost Allocation (Part 2)
Lecture 10: Cost Allocation: Departments, Joint Products, and By-Products by Professor Noel Cooperberg (Chapter 7) After solving an exercise begun in the previous lecture, the Professor goes over modern implementation challenges and ethical issues that arise with regards to cost allocation. An overview of joint product costing is given followed by detailed explanations and examples for each of the three methods (relative physical units method, relative sales values at split-off, relative net realizable values [NRV] ). Begins with Exercise Solutions / Review (when students talk, a bit difficult to hear) Implementation Challenges: 13:49 Ethical Issues in Cost Allocation: 17:02 Overview of Joint Product Costing: 20:35 Physical Units Method: 23:40 (with example and summary) Relative Sales Values at Split-off Method: 25:07 (with example and summary) Net Realizable Value (NRV) Method: 32:03 (with definition and example) There is a challenge in determining which method is the most cost effective for the company. It can also be difficult to determine an allocation base and percentage that is reflective of usage (to ensure that managers are given appropriate incentive). Allocation of budgeted costs is more predictable and less dependent upon other departments, therefore more motivating. Allocated costs can exceed external purchase costs. Ethical issues can arise in cost allocation. The allocation method may effect the cost of the products sold to foreign subsidiaries. By increasing allocated costs to high-tax countries or to countries where the firm does not have favorable tax treatment, the firm can reduce its overall tax liability. International tax authorities watch the allocation methods of multinationals very closely. Some manufacturers yield more than one product from a common input. This is called a joint production process. Joint products each have relatively substantial sales values. For example, oil can be used for gasoline, heating oil, kerosene, and asphalt. Products whose total sales values are minor in comparison to the sales value of the joint products are by-products. For example, in beef processing, the cuts of meat are the "main product", whilst offal are byproducts. A primary characteristic of joint products is that the cost of the different products is incurred in an indivisible sum for all products. A physical measure, such as pounds, gallons, or yards are used to allocate the joint costs. Joint products and by-products start as the same raw material. Until the split-off point, no distinction can be made between the products. Joint costs include all manufacturing costs incurred prior to split-off. Costs incurred after split-off are called additional processing costs or separable costs. There are 3 methods to allocate joint product costs: relative physical units produced, relative sales values at split-off, and relative net realizable values (NRV) of the products. The physical units method advantages are that it is easy to use and the criterion for allocation is objective. Disadvantages are that it ignores the revenue producing capability of each product, and each product can have its own unique physical measure. Relative sales values at split-off method allocates joint costs based on the relative sales values at the split-off point. The method can only be used when joint products can be sold at the split-off point. Advantages are that it is easy to calculate, and costs are allocated according to the product's revenue. Disadvantages are that the market prices in some industries change frequently and the sales price at split-off might not be available because additional processing is necessary. The net realizable value (NRV) method is appropriate when joint products cannot be sold at splitoff. NRV is th e product's estimated sales at splitoff. NRV is calculated by subtracting additional processing and selling costs beyond the split-off point from the estimated sales value of the product. The ROI of User Experience
ROI of User Experience. http://www.humanfactors.com/project/index.asp About this video: In this animated video Dr. Susan Weinschenk demonstrates how user centered design results in significant return on investment (ROI). Transcript: User experience is the science and art of designing a product like a website or a software application so that it's easy to use. So that it fits the expectation that the user has for it, and so that it meets business goals. There's a whole methodology around designing a user experience, and sometimes people ask me is it worth it to do all that work to design a user experience? So let's talk about the return on investment, or ROI, of doing user experience work. IEEE is a professional organization that puts out reports and does research for programmers, developers, and engineers, and they put out an article called "Why Software Fails". Here's some interesting data from that article. They estimate that the amount of money that is spent worldwide in information technology is estimated at one trillion dollars a year. The percent of projects that are abandoned because they are hopelessly inadequate is up to 15 percent of all projects. The percent of revenue that goes to the IT group is five percent of a company's total revenue and up to ten percent if it's a financial or telecommunications company. The amount of time that programmers spend on rework that is actually avoidable is 50 percent of their time. The cost of fixing an error after development is 100 times that of fixing an error before development of the project is completed. Of the top 12 reasons that projects fail, three of the top 12 are directly related to what we would call user experience or user-centered design work, and those three are badly defined requirements; poor communication among customers, developers, and users; and stakeholder politics. So the kind of work that, that user experience professionals give, stakeholder interviews, user research, user testing, user centered design. These are all things that can fix at least three of those 12 reasons why software fails. You actually can calculate the savings or additional revenue or benefit that you get from approving your user experience in the product.

World's 10 Most Expensive Fruits
Here are 10 of the most expensive fruits in the world. Sure fruit is awesome, packed with all sorts of vitamins, antioxidants, and, of course, lip-smacking flavor. Depending upon season and type, it's also pretty reasonably priced. Well, most of it is, anyway. There are a few out there that could put a dent in even particularly lush grocery budgets. Here are 10 of the most expensive fruits in the world. Number 10. Densuke watermelon. Praised for its unique sweetness, this melon also has a very distinctive look. All black and lacking stripes, this beauty is definitely a grocery store stand-out. At its price point, it should be. In 2008 a 17-pounder sold at auction for 61 hundred dollars. Number 9. Pineapples from the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Thank goodness pineapples have thick skins, because these ones are grown under straw, horse urine, and manure. To be fair, they hail from chilly England, so extreme measures are warranted. They're given to staff as gifts, but their estimated value is 16 hundred dollars. Number 8. Yubari King Melon. A serious amount of effort goes into making sure that these cantaloupes are perfect. Each vine is trimmed to limit its yield to one. Once sprouted, each melon is given a little hat to protect it from the sun. When picked the stems are trimmed to a tidy 'T' shape. One ideal specimen pair fetched around 23 thousand dollars at auction. Number 7. Taiyo-no-Tamago Mangoes. The going rate for these beauties is 3 thousand dollars. To be fair, the price is for a box that includes 2. To earn the special distinction, the individual fruits must weigh at least 12 ounces and be high in sugar. Number 6. Ruby Roman grapes. They're perfectly round, extra sweet, and about the size of a ping pong ball, all of which are apparently extremely desirable qualities. People are willing to pay in excess of 4 thousand dollars to get their hands on a bunch. Number 5. Square watermelons. Sure, it sounds cool, but is it over 800 dollars worth of awesome? That's the price some Russians have been known to pay for the Japanese melons. To achieve the unique shape, farmers grow the fruit in plastic containers. Number 4. Dekopon citrus. A cross between a mandarin and an orange, the membranes between the sections are known for their thinness and melt-in-your mouth quality. The flavor keeps happy customers combing back as well, as they hit an ideal balance between sweet and tart. A pack of 6 runs around 80 dollars. Number 3. Sekai-ichi apples. The making of the 21-dollar apple -- that's a piece, not per pound -- is far from left to nature. Fields are hand pollinated and each apple is washed in honey and hand stamped. Number 2. Sembikiya Queen strawberries. Named for the swanky fruit store in Tokyo that sells them, each box of twelve is hand selected and perfectly matched. Even with a price tag of about 85 dollars, the retailer rings up at least 50 units a day. Number 1. Buddha-shaped pears. Molds are placed on the pears as they grow from the trees, resulting in a piece of fruit that looks much like a small, decorative statue. People don't seem to mind the 9-dollar price, and rush to buy them as soon as they're picked.

Create a Calculated Field in a PivotTable
Check out my Blog: http://exceltraining101.blogspot.com Calculated Fields in PivotTables are just an extra way to create different calculations for your data without messing with the source data. Say you had sales data and wanted to get the profit margin. Instead of adding an extra column in your source data for the PivotTable, you can can create the PivotTable and then use the calculated field command to create the formula to do that. It sounds complicated but it's not really that hard to do. Check out the video to see an example. #exceltips #exceltipsandtricks #exceltutorial #doughexcel

Export Compliance - Landed Cost Calculator
Our Landed Cost Calculator helps you determine an accurate estimate of the landed cost of your products by calculating the various import duties, VAT and excise taxes, and other government fees that will be added to your goods before they arrive at their destination. In addition to providing the estimated landed cost of a product from a single source, our Landed Cost Calculator allows you to display costs comparing up to eight different country source combinations. For example, you can easily compare the costs of a product sourced domestically against the cost of importing that same product from China or Mexico, so you can make the right decision every time.

Measuring Inflation
Inflation is common in a modern economy. Shifts in supply and demand for goods and services cause prices to change accordingly. When the average level of prices rises, that’s inflation. It means that you’ll need more money to purchase the same stuff. Inflation in the United States can be measured using the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index (CPI) – a weighted average of the price increases. We can calculate the inflation rate by the percentage change in the CPI over a given period of time. How much do prices actually change? Well, using FRED, we can see that, over the past thirty-three years, prices have more than doubled. That may seem like a lot. However, wages have also risen, on average, by more than prices during that time period. Inflation doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re worse off. The inflation rate in the United States has averaged at about 2.5% per year since 1980, which is fairly low and indicative of a stable economy. Prices may be increasing, but the changes are small. Wages have time to catch up. You can be confident that the $5 in your pocket isn’t going to be worth drastically less in a year. Let’s take a look at a different scenario -- one that’s playing in Venezuela right now. As the country faces an economic crisis, inflation is skyrocketing. Rates reached 180% in 2015 and have continued to rise since. 5 bolívar in your pocket could be worth less even by the end of the day. But Venezuela still doesn’t compare to the hyperinflation that Zimbabwe experienced in the 2000s, reaching dizzying rates of billions of a percent per month. (See MRU’s previous video for more!) While some inflation is perfectly normal, high rates of inflation make it difficult for consumers to use a nation’s currency. If the value is changing a lot by the week, day, or even minute, people don’t want to hold onto or accept the currency for goods and services -- leading to a full blown currency crisis. Up next, we’ll take a deeper dive into what causes inflation and its consequences.
