1. HTML5 Custom Video Player Controls JavaScript Programming Tutorial

14:03
Lesson Code: http://www.developphp.com/video/JavaScript/Video-Player-Custom-Controls-Programming-Tutorial In this first part of the tutorial series we will discuss how to set up a custom controls interface starting with the play/pause button. Customizing the HTML5 video controls interface will allow you to achieve a unique and constant look for your video player in all browser software. Different browser software display different looking default controls for the video element. You can also offer your custom programmed video players to others to use on their websites if they also do not want to use the stock controls that are native to browser software for the video element. We use JavaScript to control the video after we remove the default controls. We used to do very similar things in Flash AS3 if you remember. We are going to begin with disabling the default control bar and setting up our own control bar design using a DIV that we can place all of our video controls into as we create them. In this part 1 we will add a play/pause button to the control bar, then in the videos that follow we will customize more aspects of video control interfacing.

css3 id vs class attributes, when to use id and when to use class, difference between id and class in css css benefits of using class over id, css3 benefits of using id over class, html id vs class, css id vs class, html class vs id, css class vs id, The Difference Between ID and Class, id vs class tutorial, difference between id and class tutorial,The Difference Between class and id HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript Tutorials , lessons with examples. Techsith.com id vs class more of a design related question and its a very important one. Overall you will be using more classes then ids. id: think of element that is unique. there is only one id per element. your html validateor would throw and en error if you do use it which means you will not be reusing the same style anywhere else. all the main containers in your HTMLs you should use id because you are not going to repete them . That doesnt mean that you cant use class there. advantage of using is for is as your main namespace. for css this way you can segregate work so your css doesn't messup. for example #leftContainer .button { color:red} which mean all the botton in the left containers are red. class: you can used them freely. any common styles you can define as class. as you can have multiple classes for the same element. and mix and match of the classes will make your css small . for example you can create two divs with same color but diffrent font sizes. Dont forget the attributes. actually id and class are attributes wich special meaning. and you can create your own custome attributes. like myattr. Platforms like angularjs uses them freely. overall i thin its better to use classes then ids especially when you working in a team envirement where you are responsible for a partial html . using id can be riskier if someone else is using the same id in the other part of the html . in css id has higher priority than class for example .....

CSS Basics: 3. CSS Selectors, Element, Class and ID

06:35
So we just looked at a basic CSS statement and it starts with a selector. So what the hell are selectors, again? Say you are brangelina, and you have a bunch of kids, you wanna dress them for school except only one of them is old enough for school. So first you have to pick the right kid, then dress/style them. That’s what selectors are. Choose which kid you wanna prepare for school. Or since you’re not brangelina, Choose which element you wanna style. It all starts with the selector. There are different kinds of selectors. In our example, we used what’s called an element selector because it targets your styles based on the element type, That’s the most basic selector there is. By using the element type. Like a p tag. Cool? Cool. The problem with element selectors is that you might not want to turn ALL your paragraphs blue. What if you had 3 paragraphs and you only want one of them to be blue? The element type is an identifier but in this case it’s too general. I wanna show you an example. Look at this thing on atom’s website. See these two sections? One of them has a white background, the other one is beige. If you inspect it you’ll see they’re both divs, here they are, so clearly the dudes who made this couldn’t have said oh select all divs and change the background to white or beige. They needed to be more specific. You can select elements based on other kinds of identifiers. Classes and ID. Class is the most common and useful one, in fact that’s exactly what Atom is using. Take a look. They have wrapper class on one, and highlight on the other. If you click on highlight, you’ll see that class has a beige background on it. So let’s do one ourselves. Let’s say you have 4 paragraphs and you want to alternate between dark and light. So dark, light, dark, light. In other words you wanna reuse a style for multiple elements. In this case you can use a CLASS selector. The way you write these in CSS is you write the name of your class, this could be whatever you want, just can’t have spaces and some special characters, say DARK, and you put a DOT in front of it. Why a DOT? Well, I dunno what to tell you. There’s no good explanation why, that at least I know about. It’s just syntax that you have to remember. This tells the browser hey this is a CLASS selector. Then of course you have to add the class to your element in HTML. This means “hey select all the elements that have a class attribute and the value is dark. Let’s try it: DEMO 4 - I’m gonna cover ID selectors too just for the sake of it although we don’t use them much. ID attributes are specific to one element only. If you have a style that you want to apply to only one element, for some reason, you can add an ID to that element (for example: my-blue-paragraph), then use an ID selector in CSS to style it. ID selectors are just like CLASS selectors, except you put a # in front of the name instead of the DOT. That becomes the CSS selector for the element with that ID. So let’s try it. DEMO 3 - The problem with ID is that it’s limited to only 1 element. Remember IDs can’t be shared between elements. So you can’t reuse my-blue-paragraph ID for multiple elements. So those are the 3 basic selectors. Element, Class and ID. “Element” to style the elements of that type. ID to target only one specific element. And Class to reuse for multiple elements. We’ll be using all of them from now on. Selectors can get much much more complicated and they will, but now you know the basics. So next, we’re gonna look at some of our options when it comes to style properties, like color, so far that’s all we’ve used so I’m gonna talk about it in detail. Later, fonts, sizes, background, border, animations, display types, flexbox, where’d everyone go? I was talking.

Where should the script tag be placed in html

09:40
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/11/where-should-script-tag-be-placed-in.html In this video we will discuss, where should the script tag be placed in the html. Should it be placed in the body or head section of the page. In general the script tag can be placed either in the head or body section. Let's look at a few examples : Example 1 : Script tag in the head section [html] [head] [script type="text/javascript"] alert("Welcome to JavaScript Tutorial"); [/script] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [/form] [/body] [/html] Example 2 : Script tag in the body section [html] [head] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [/form] [script type="text/javascript"] alert("Welcome to JavaScript Tutorial"); [/script] [/body] [/html] In Example 1 we placed the script tag in the head section and in Example 2, we placed it in body section. In both the cases JavaScript works as expected. Example 3 : Sets the background color of the TextBox to red. [html] [head] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [/form] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").style.backgroundColor = "red"; [/script] [/body] [/html] Example 4 : This is same as Example 3, except we moved the script tag to the head section. In this case the script will not work as expected. Depending on the browser you are using you get one of the following JavaScript error. Firefox - TypeError: document.getElementById(...) is null Chrome - Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'style' of null IE - Unable to get property 'style' of undefined or null reference To see these JavaScript errors press F12 which launches developer tools. F12 works for all the 3 browsers. [html] [head] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").style.backgroundColor = "red"; [/script] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [/form] [/body] [/html] Why did the JavaScript did not work in this case JavaScript code is present before the textbox control. By the time the JavaScript code is executed, the textbox is still not loaded into browser DOM (Document Object Model). This is the reason JavaScript can't find the textbox and throws a NULL reference error. In Part 6, we discussed that, in general it is a good practice to store JavaScript in an external .js file. So, if the JavaScript is present in an external file and if you are referencing it on a page using [script] element, where should such [script] element be placed. To answer this question, first let's understand what happens when a browser starts loading a web page. 1. The browser starts parsing the HTML 2. When the parser encounters a [script] tag that references an external JavaScript file. The parser stops parsing the HTML and the browser makes a request to download the script file. Until the download is complete, the parser is blocked from parsing the rest of the HTML on the page. 3. When the download is complete, that's when the parser will resume to parse the rest of the HTML. This means the page loading is stopped until all the scripts are loaded which affects user experience. In general, the suggested good practice is to place the [script] tag just before the closing [body] tag, so it doesn't block the HTML parser. However, modern browsers support async and defer attributes on scripts. These attributes tell the browser it's safe to continue parsing while the scripts are being downloaded. But even with these attributes, from a performance standpoint it is still better to place [script] tag just before closing [body] tag. According to HTTP/1.1 specification browsers download no more than two components in parallel. So, if the page has several images to download and if you place [script] tags at the top of the page, the script files start to download first which blocks the images download which adds to the total page load time.

Part 45 Customize display and edit templates in asp net mvc

14:07
In this video, we will discuss customizing datetime ediotr template. Please watch Part 44, before proceeding. We will be using the same example, that we worked with in Part 44. At the moment, when you navigate to localhost/MVCDemo/Home/Edit/1, notice that, a textbox control is used as the editing interface. Notice that, for HireDate, users have to type in the date. Dates has got different formats. For example, MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YY etc. So, different users may type it differently. Also, from a user experience, it is better to display a DateTime picker from which the user can simply select the date. The built-in DateTime editor template used by MVC simply displays a textbox for editing Dates. So, let's customize the DateTime editor template, to use jQuery calendar. The following is the convention used by MVC to find the customized templates. 1. The customized display templates must be in a sub-folder that is named - DisplayTemplates. Editor templates must be in a sub-folder that is named - EditorTemplates. 2. These sub-folders can live in "Shared" folder, or a specific views folder. If these folders are present in the Shared folder, then the templates are available for all the views. If they are in a specific views folder, then, they are available only for that set of views. 3. The name of the template must match the name of the type. For example, as we are customizing DateTime template, the name of the template in this case has to be DateTime.ascx Adding a Custom DateTime Editor template Step 1: If "Shared" folder does not already exists in your project, right click on the project in solution explorer and add it. Step 2: Right click on the "Shared" folder, and "EditorTemplates" folder. Step 3: Right click on "EditorTemplates" folder and add a view with name = DateTime Step 4: Copy and paste the following code in DateTime.cshtml partial view @model DateTime? @Html.TextBox("", (Model.HasValue ? Model.Value.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy") : string.Empty), new { @class = "date" }) Note: Please refer to the following MSDN articel for all the DateTime format strings http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx Step 5: Copy and paste Edit.cshtml view code from my blog using the link below. http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/06/part-45-customize-display-and-edit.html Note: Please refer to the following jQuery link for DateTime format strings http://jqueryui.com/resources/demos/datepicker/date-formats.html The following jQuery scripts and css files are required for jQuery DateTime picker control. However, these files may change depending on the version of jQuery you are working with. jQuery add event handler to dynamically created element

09:15
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/04/jquery-add-event-handler-to-dynamically.html In this video we will discuss, how to add event handlers to dynamically created elements. Let us understand this with an example. The following example, allows us to dynamically create new list item (li), attach a click event handler and add it to the unordered list (ul). This happens when you click "Add a New List Item" button. The problem with this approach is that we are binding a click event handler to every list item. This means if you have 500 list items, then there will be 500 event handlers in the memory and this may negatively affect the performance of your application. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { var newListItem = $('<li>New List Item</li>').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('ul').append(newListItem); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html> A better way of doing the same from a performance standpoint is shown below. In this example, the click event handler is attached to the listitem (li) parent element (ul). Even if you have 500 list items, there is only one click event handler in memory. So how does this work 1. When you click on a list item (li), the event gets bubbled up to its parent (ul) as the list item (li) does not have an event handler 2. The bubbled event is handled by the the parent (ul) element, as it has a click event handler. 3. When a new list item is added dynamicaly, you don't have to add the click event handler to it. Since the newly created list item (li) is added to the same parent element (ul), the click event of this list item also gets bubbled upto the same parent and will be handled by it. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('ul').on('click', 'li', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { $('ul').append('<li>New List Item</li>'); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html>
