Spend one night out on the town with singer/songwriter/guitarist Dan Arnold and you'll find that there isn't a word of a lie in any of his lyrics. Everything is written by Dan himself and it shows. Not considering himself so much a songwriter, but rather a life experiencer, listeners get a window into the soul of a hard working guy from a small town. Weaving catchy hooks with southern-rock style guitars, while keeping true to a certain twang, Dan takes real life experiences and gives listeners a glimpse into a life filled with irony. Spending most of the childhood growing up on a farm west of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, Dan was introduced to country music at a young age. Attending Caronport High School, in a Bible seminary town, proved to be a good place to hone his musical craft. In grade eleven, Dan's father bought another farm in Whitewood, Saskatchewan. During this time, Dan was introduced to Anthony Kelly and Neil Coghill of the Saskatchewan country band Shifty Morgan. Neil drove Dan to practices and performances and he became infatuated with the country sound. After High School Dan moved to Saskatoon, and played in the hard rock act Idle Material, placing as a top ten finalist in the legendary XJam Battle of the Bands, and released an independent EP with the band, and played many shows throughout Saskatchewan. At some point, Dan unplugged, and moved back to Alberta to work drilling rigs, hung up the guitar and walked away from it all. For five years, sat silent, and eventually moved back to a family farmhouse in Marquis, SK, to reflect on so many years of chaotic living. Having experienced so much, moved around, and worked in fields for most of his life, it came time to put the experiences to good use. Having loved and lost, made money and went broke, the best advice came from a friend, "it's only when you've lost everything that you are free to do anything". Having an albums worth of solid country material written already, in 2012 Dan entered the StarSeeker competion in his hometown of Moose Jaw, Sask. Dan impressed audiences and judges with energy filled performances and solid songwriting and placed as a finalist, even having his demos played on Country 100.7. In September of 2013 Dan entered MCC Recording in Calgary, AB, with songs filled with memories of actual events of the past nine years, and laid it down with musical legends MIke Little (George Canyon), Russell Broom (Jann Arden), Chad Melchert (Gord Bamford), and Chris Byrne (George Canyon). Its safe to say it was life changing. Within eight weeks of the release, Dan skyrocketed to #1 on the Singer/Songwriter online charts for Calgary and area, and eighth in the country. In no time at all, Dan has played alongside some of the best musicians in Canada, from jamming with Derek Littlejohn at Black Diamond on Saturday nights, to playing the biggest country bars in Canada, including Cowboys Nightclub and Ranchman's, in Calgary, AB. Dan has now made the move to Calgary, assembled a full touring band, and is pursuing music fulltime, with a pending radio release coming next. In Dan's own words, some of us just have to learn the hard way. At age 27, Better late than never.
