SQL with Oracle 10g XE - Creating Calculated Columns with SELECT

05:06
In this video I create a calculated field based off the data from an existing column. When creating a calculated column you can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In the video I increased a column by 10 percent, decreased it by 15 percent and divided it in half. The results are not stored in the table, but are created on-the-fly. If you need parenthesis you can use them to change the order of operations in your math calculation. This video is part of a series of videos with the purpose of learning the SQL language. SQL with Oracle 10g XE - Using the COUNT and SUM Functions

04:09
In this video I use the COUNT and SUM functions available to the SQL language. I used the COUNT function to add up the number of records in my query. This function works well with all data types and will just count the number or records that result from the conditions of your query. The SUM function will add up the numeric values and produce a total amount of a column. When using a function be sure to use parenthesis around the column you are performing the function on. This video is part of a series of videos with the purpose of learning the SQL language. For more information visit Lecture Snippets at http://lecturesnippets.com.

PLS-2: My First PL/SQL Program

11:34
For Full Course Experience Please Go To http://mentorsnet.org/course_preview?course_id=5 Full Course Experience Includes 1. Access to course videos and exercises 2. View & manage your progress/pace 3. In-class projects and code reviews 4. Personal guidance from your Mentors Goal is to write your first PL/SQL program. The basic program unit in PL/SQL is the block. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords partition the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. Example of a Block DECLARE bonus NUMBER(8,2); emp_id NUMBER(6) := 100; BEGIN SELECT salary * 0.10 INTO bonus FROM employees WHERE employee_id = emp_id; Exception When NO_DATA_FOUND THEN null ; END; This is a typical PL/SQL block where 10% of salary is selected and stored on a temp variables bonus. If for some reason there is no employee with empid = 100 then the control will come to exception area and the code in the exception area will be executed. These blocks can be entirely separate or nested one within another. The basic units (procedures and functions, also known as subprograms, and anonymous blocks) that make up a PL/SQL program are logical blocks, which can contain any number of nested sub blocks. Therefore, one block can represent a small part of another block, which in turn can be part of the whole unit of code. Anonymous Blocks Anonymous blocks are unnamed blocks. They are declared at the point in an application where they are to be executed and are passed to the PL/SQL engine for execution at run time. You can embed an anonymous block within a pre-compiler program and within iSQL*Plus or Server Manager. Triggers in Oracle Developer components consist of such blocks. Subprograms Subprograms are named PL/SQL blocks that can accept parameters and can be invoked. You can declare them either as procedures or as functions. Generally use a procedure to perform an action and a function to compute a value. You can store subprograms at the server or application level. Using Oracle Developer components (Forms, Reports, and Graphics), you can declare procedures and functions as part of the application (a form or report) and call them from other procedures, functions, and triggers (see next page) within the same application whenever necessary. Note: A function is similar to a procedure, except that a function must return a value.

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-1-how-to-find-nth-highest-salary_17.html This is a very common SQL Server Interview Question. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

Oracle SQL Monitoring - Performance Analysis

01:30:41
SQL Monitoring is the best new feature of Oracle 11g for performance analysts, developers and support teams. Finally there is a tool that provides the most accurate, useful and interesting information when a SQL statement is running for longer than expected in a clear format with no minimal advance configuration requirements: What execution plan is really being used? What row source cardinality calculations are incorrect? What steps in the plan are taking the most time and consuming most resources? In this presentation, Doug Burns will demonstrate the various ways of accessing SQL Monitoring functionality and use example reports to show how the information can be used to analyse both currently running and completed statements. It will also describe and offer solutions to some of the minor quirks you might encounter. Oracle SQL MEDIAN Function Examples and Guide

03:28
https://www.databasestar.com/median-mean-mode-in-oracle/ In this video, you’ll learn what the term “median” means, and how to generate an Oracle SQL median value. What is median? It’s the middle value in a list of values, after the values have been sorted in ascending order. It’s kind of like an average, but it’s different, as the average finds the total of the values divided by the number of values and will often not be one of the values in the list. Median will usually be the value in the list that is the middle point. So, how can you calculate the median in Oracle SQL? We use a function called MEDIAN. And in this video, I’ll show you how to use the function and see some examples. For more information on the MEDIAN function, including the SQL used in this video, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/median-mean-mode-in-oracle/

Calculate running total in SQL Server 2012

06:23
running total sql server cumulative total in ms sql server running total column In this video we will discuss how to calculate running total in SQL Server 2012 and later versions. We will use the following Employees table for the examples in this video. SQL Script to create Employees table Create Table Employees ( Id int primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), Salary int ) Go Insert Into Employees Values (1, 'Mark', 'Male', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (2, 'John', 'Male', 4500) Insert Into Employees Values (3, 'Pam', 'Female', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (4, 'Sara', 'Female', 4000) Insert Into Employees Values (5, 'Todd', 'Male', 3500) Insert Into Employees Values (6, 'Mary', 'Female', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (7, 'Ben', 'Male', 6500) Insert Into Employees Values (8, 'Jodi', 'Female', 7000) Insert Into Employees Values (9, 'Tom', 'Male', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (10, 'Ron', 'Male', 5000) Go SQL Query to compute running total without partitions SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, SUM(Salary) OVER (ORDER BY ID) AS RunningTotal FROM Employees SQL Query to compute running total with partitions SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, SUM(Salary) OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY ID) AS RunningTotal FROM Employees What happens if I use order by on Salary column If you have duplicate values in the Salary column, all the duplicate values will be added to the running total at once. In the example below notice that we have 5000 repeated 3 times. So 15000 (i.e 5000 + 5000 + 5000) is added to the running total at once. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, SUM(Salary) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS RunningTotal FROM Employees So when computing running total, it is better to use a column that has unique data in the ORDER BY clause. How to use the Oracle SQL PIVOT Clause

11:46
PIVOT allows you to "flip a table on its side", i.e. Columns to Rows / Rows to Columns. Previously we did this with DECODE or CASE. As of Oracle 11g, Oracle Database includes the PIVOT clause (and UNPIVOT). Oracle expert Geoff Wiland from SkillBuilders will demonstrate PIVOT, UNPIVOT, including the use of aggregate functions.

SQL Tutorial - Window Functions

12:41
Another fantastic SQL Tutorial brought to you by BeardedDev. In this video we begin to explore Window Functions and their purpose within SQL Server. Window Functions are used for performing data analysis calculations and address an important need compared to the GROUP BY clause that we are able to return the underlying data in the same query. This video shows an example of the differences between the GROUP BY clause and Window Functions. Window Functions were first introduced in SQL Server 2005 but further enhancements and support was added in SQL Server 2012. We look at the OVER clause and PARTITION BY. Window Functions can only be included within SELECT or ORDER BY clauses. Functions Available: Aggregate - COUNT, SUM, MIN, MAX, AVG Offset - FIRST_VALUE, LAST_VALUE, LEAD, LAG Statistical - PERCENT_RANK, CUME_DIST, PERCENTILE_CONT, PERCENTILE_DIST Windows Functions also have FRAMES ROWS RANGE Window Functions are a powerful tool within SQL Server and I am excited to bring more videos and tutorials working with Window Functions in the future. Code: WITH CTE AS ( SELECT Sales_Id , SUM(Line_Total) AS Total FROM Sales_Details GROUP BY Sales_Id ) SELECT * FROM CTE AS A INNER JOIN Sales_Details AS B ON A.Sales_Id = B.Sales_Id SELECT Sales_Id , Sales_Date , Item , Price , Quantity , Line_Total , COUNT(Line_Total) OVER(PARTITION BY Sales_Id) AS Line_Count , SUM(Line_Total) OVER(PARTITION BY Sales_Id) AS Sales_Total , SUM(Line_Total) OVER(PARTITION BY Sales_Date) AS Daily_Total , SUM(Line_Total) OVER() AS Total FROM Sales_Details ORDER BY Sales_Total

Oracle SQL Tutorial 23 - Intro to Data Types

05:03
Every column within a table has to be given what is known as a datatype. A data type is a fairly simple concept when you dissect the word. It is literally the type of data. Why do we use types, though? The biggest benefit is so that Oracle knows how to interpret and work with our data. It also makes the database better at rejecting incorrect data. If we had to concept of a data type, there would be a lot more work involved in forcing data to be of the right format. It would also be harder for us to get the database to treat the data in the correct way. In addition to this, a database can optimize storage and performance for a column if everything is of the same data type. Because of this, each column can only support one data type. There are numerous different data types in Oracle and it helps us if we categorize them. The first types of datatypes we should learn about are: String, Numeric, Temporal Now, there are few more categories we could make, but these are the main ones. We will worry about the other ones another day as I am only introducing the topic. A string data type is anything within quotes. Most databases use single quotes for string data. Inside of the quotes can be any number of characters. What is a character? Think of any letter, number, or symbol you can type. Some people call these letters, numbers, and symbols alphanumeric. Numeric data type includes only numbers. These data types are often used for data that you plan on using for mathematical calculations. Temporal data types are data types that are used for dates and times. Now, each data type is probably going to have some options you'll need to worry about, but one that comes up with every data type is storage. The reason we need to consider storage is because we may end up with millions of rows in a table and the difference between a few bytes for each row will make a huge difference when we look at the whole picture. When a data type gives you the option of size, you will want to a size that will be able to hold what you need, but nothing more. In the upcoming videos we are going to discuss the available data types in more detail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle SQL Tuning - Explain Plan Lies?

08:20
Do you use EXPLAIN PLAN to tune Oracle SQL? Does it always "tell the truth", or does it "lie". (Maybe it's not the whole truth!) In this free tutorial from SkillBuilders' Oracle Certified Master John Watson, you will learn why the execution plan generated by EXPLAIN PLAN can be misleading and what to do about it. After a brief lecture, John demonstrates exactly why. You'll hear about dynamic sampling, adaptive cursor sharing (11g), adaptive execution plans (12c) and of course, bind variables. John demonstrates how bind variables cause misleading execution plans using dbms_xplan.display and dbms_xplan.display_cursor. To get the most from this tutorial, you should have some understanding of hard parse, soft parse, cardinality, histograms. Rank and Dense Rank in SQL Server

10:08
rank and dense_rank example difference between rank and dense_rank with example rank vs dense_rank in sql server 2008 sql server difference between rank and dense_rank In this video we will discuss Rank and Dense_Rank functions in SQL Server Rank and Dense_Rank functions Introduced in SQL Server 2005 Returns a rank starting at 1 based on the ordering of rows imposed by the ORDER BY clause ORDER BY clause is required PARTITION BY clause is optional When the data is partitioned, rank is reset to 1 when the partition changes Difference between Rank and Dense_Rank functions Rank function skips ranking(s) if there is a tie where as Dense_Rank will not. For example : If you have 2 rows at rank 1 and you have 5 rows in total. RANK() returns - 1, 1, 3, 4, 5 DENSE_RANK returns - 1, 1, 2, 3, 4 Syntax : RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) RANK() and DENSE_RANK() functions without PARTITION BY clause : In this example, data is not partitioned, so RANK() function provides a consecutive numbering except when there is a tie. Rank 2 is skipped as there are 2 rows at rank 1. The third row gets rank 3. DENSE_RANK() on the other hand will not skip ranks if there is a tie. The first 2 rows get rank 1. Third row gets rank 2. SELECT Name, Salary, Gender, RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS [Rank], DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS DenseRank FROM Employees RANK() and DENSE_RANK() functions with PARTITION BY clause : Notice when the partition changes from Female to Male Rank is reset to 1 SELECT Name, Salary, Gender, RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS [Rank], DENSE_RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS DenseRank FROM Employees Use case for RANK and DENSE_RANK functions : Both these functions can be used to find Nth highest salary. However, which function to use depends on what you want to do when there is a tie. Let me explain with an example. If there are 2 employees with the FIRST highest salary, there are 2 different business cases 1. If your business case is, not to produce any result for the SECOND highest salary, then use RANK function 2. If your business case is to return the next Salary after the tied rows as the SECOND highest Salary, then use DENSE_RANK function Since we have 2 Employees with the FIRST highest salary. Rank() function will not return any rows for the SECOND highest Salary. WITH Result AS ( SELECT Salary, RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS Salary_Rank FROM Employees ) SELECT TOP 1 Salary FROM Result WHERE Salary_Rank = 2 Though we have 2 Employees with the FIRST highest salary. Dense_Rank() function returns, the next Salary after the tied rows as the SECOND highest Salary WITH Result AS ( SELECT Salary, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS Salary_Rank FROM Employees ) SELECT TOP 1 Salary FROM Result WHERE Salary_Rank = 2 You can also use RANK and DENSE_RANK functions to find the Nth highest Salary among Male or Female employee groups. The following query finds the 3rd highest salary amount paid among the Female employees group WITH Result AS ( SELECT Salary, Gender, DENSE_RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS Salary_Rank FROM Employees ) SELECT TOP 1 Salary FROM Result WHERE Salary_Rank = 3 AND Gender = 'Female' Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/rank-and-denserank-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/rank-and-denserank-in-sql-server_1.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

Synchronize and filter Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server data

04:26
FME works with non-spatial corporate databases, including Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Netezza, PostgreSQL, Teradata, Ingres, and Oracle. In this demo, you'll see how to use FME Workbench to update Oracle with results from a complex SQL Server query. We'll execute a SELECT statement on a SQL Server database from within a SQLCreator transformer, then execute an UPDATE on an Oracle database from within a SQLExecutor transformer. We'll also perform a data validation step in the middle. Transformers used: SQLCreator, TestFilter, SQLExecutor Formats used: Oracle Non-spatial (ORACLE8I_DB), Microsoft SQL Server Non-Spatial (MSSQL_ADO) For the full webinar on working with non-spatial data in FME, visit http://www.safe.com/learning/webinars/#non-spatial
