Murrelet Wooden Sea Kayak Surfing Skookumchuck Rapids

02:06
Warren Williamson gracefully surfs the Murrelet 4PD kayak (a 17 foot sea kayak) for two full minutes in a standing tidal wave at Skookumchuk Rapids, BC. https://www.pygmyboats.com/boats/murrelet-4PD-kayak-kit.html "I found it (the Murrelet) quite different than any other kayak I've paddled. When you are about to get kicked off the wave and you're trying to power on, the Murrelet just takes off like a rocket and catches the wave. I loved it... The Murrelet is a very good all around kayak: a rolling kayak, you could race in it, you could camp in it, you can surf in it. It's an incredible kayak." - Warren

Building a Stitch & Glue Kayak: Complete Video

58:59
This is the complete Chesapeake Light Craft kayak building video, filmed in 2001. John Harris walks you through every step in the construction of a Chesapeake 16 kayak. Straightforward to build, handsome, and with famously benign handling qualities on the water, 8000 Chesapeake-series kits have been built around the world, with countless more from plans. The techniques here are showing their age; kayak kit technology has moved on a bit from 2001 and construction has gotten easier. (For example, since 2005 or so we've been using simpler puzzle joints rather than the scarf joints seen here..) The goal of the Chesapeake Light Craft team was to create a boatbuilding video of unprecedented clarity. High production values and an emphasis on watchability has made this one popular. The droll sight gags and general levity of the piece were deliberate---prior to 2001, boatbuilding videos seemed to specialize in somnolence, taciturnity, and cheap-wedding-video visuals. It seems to work. You can purchase a copy of the DVD here: http://www.clcboats.com/shop/boat-building-books-kayaking-dvds/boat-building-kayaking-dvds/

PVC Kayak Frame

29:55
The skinning video is here! https://youtu.be/P0Yx2I2jQdY. My real skin on frame kayak is for sale on Ebay till Sept, 11. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Racing-Sea-Kayak-Custom-built-skin-on-frame/ Check out my site documenting the build of my other skin on frame kayaks http://waterlightkayaks.com. This is my attempt to make a skin on frame kayak using pvc pipe for the frame and zip ties. I was working without any plans or official measurements and using only my experience paddling kayaks and building 2 previous CLCBoats kayak kits. I was not able to finish the whole boat during my Christmas break at my mother-in-laws house so the skinning will have to wait till summer. If you are a pro builder of things you may not want to watch this as the sloppy nature may cause you pain. However, it did come out much better than I thought it would.

Parajumpers Stories - The Art of Kayak Building

08:58
The most beautiful bays on earth can only be explored from the endless immensity of the sea. This yearning for nature, the water and its deepest secrets is precisely the stuff that adventure travellers’ dreams are made of – dreams that the warm-hearted kayak experts at Seawolf Kayak, with their rich history of craftsmanship, can make come true. Exploring windswept beaches, unspoiled woods and imposing rocks and discovering rare wildlife and the unique heritage of the Inuit and Aleut people, this episode of Stories by Parajumpers is dedicated to Kiliii Yuan, the founder and owner of Seawolf Kayak, a company that started as a survival school for ancient skills and that celebrates the traditional art of building skin-on-frame kayaks. “I spent the majority of my life chasing after my culture and my culture’s tradition,” explains Yuan, whose mission was inspired by his Grandmother’s stories and who dedicates his life to the Inuit and Aleut people from the far north of North America, Greenland and eastern Eurasia ever since. “My ultimate aim is to learn how indigenous people understand nature as a way of life.” he continues, adding that his aim resulted from the willingness to reconnect with the land of his ancestors, while teaching others how to build a kayak in a traditional way, thus making the magical moments of kayaking happen. But the beauty of Yuan’s handmade kayaks lies not only in the celebration of heritage, but also in his dedication and passion for state-of-the-art craftsmanship. In order to satisfy the needs of the modern-day adventurer, Yuan took up the challenge to build complex yet easily manoeuvrable shapes of kayaks that are both functional and desirable. All the kayak models undergo extensive quality tests and are each designed with a particular set of needs in mind, such as the functional requirements of long expeditions, fishing, surfing and exploration trips. Many years of experience in rough waters are mandatory, if one wishes to create unique kayaks that match the needs of junior, intermediate and advanced paddlers. The five steps of building a kayak seem simple at first glance, and yet they require a high-quality craftsmanship and precision that ensures a lightweight, high tech and long lasting design of premium quality. Amazingly, even if the purpose of kayaking has changed over time – they are no longer used in the hunt for seal, walrus and whales on the open ocean – the art of kayaking is here to stay. Today, it pleases nature lovers who enjoy boating among the mesmerising ice floes of the high arctic, or through fierce storms and strong currents, just to experience the beauty and uniqueness of unspoilt nature and wilderness. “I live in Seattle, and I love it here, because everything is about the ocean and about the sea.” says Kiliii Yuan. “It’s a great place, a great junction between people and nature, which is a big part of my life and determines what I do and how I see the world.” A self-professed water adventure addict, Kiliii Yuan concludes by confessing his eternal love for the big blue: “When you go out and the wind is whipping 30 miles an hour and the waves are really harsh, that’s when a boat needs to be good,” concludes Yuan. “That’s when it needs to let you enjoy the experience, while keeping you safe. The sea and the wilderness are all about the magic of what it means to be human.” Are you interested in more escapism and unique travelogues? How to Build a Modular Tandem Kayak

10:40
Two piece fiberglass kayak. Custom take apart kayak. Easily transported the two halves that bolt together. 2 piece fiberglass. Cut kayak in half, install mating bulkheads enabling the 2 boat halves to be easily transported and bolted together. Overview/history: We loved our previous Wilderness Systems Northstar tandem kayak. Tough polyethylene construction provided high performance, stability and rugged durability. After 10 years of paddling our Northstar hundreds of miles in big water we felt the only improvement would be to have a lighter version of the same design that would be easier to transport for aging baby boomers. Knowing that Wilderness Systems had at one time produced a Northstar model in fiberglass, a used Northstar was located and purchased. A kayak shop on Orcas Island Washington was commissioned to design and produce 2 fiberglass bulkheads that would be installed by myself, the kayak owner and a friend that is an engineer and master epoxy worker. The following images and video will provide a snapshot of how the boat was marked and cut, how the bulkheads were installed and how it bolts together. Thanks to those that assisted with the project.

Building Shearwater Sea Kayaks at Chesapeake Light Craft: Stitch and Glue Boatbuilding

Over the last 15 years, CLC boatbuilding classes have launched 900 boats and introduced more than a thousand students to the joys of boatbuilding. CLC has been hosting and teaching build-your-own-boat classes since 1994. Our talented professional instructors will help you assemble your own boat from start to finish. Most classes are 5-1/2 days---a perfect one-week vacation, with your own boat to take home, ready for finish work. View CLC's current class schedule at http://www.clcboats.com/classes One of the most popular kayaks CLC has ever offered, the Shearwater is an elegant, performance-oriented touring kayak. The "tumble home" sheer panel reduces windage and improves paddle clearance. The Shearwater features CLC's trademark cambered deck. The West Greenland style hard-chined hull has naturally easy and controllable handling for the skilled paddler and comfortable stability for the newer paddlers. The hull shape ensures good tracking even in windy and rough conditions. The deck is cut from "Sapele" mahogany plywood for extra good looks and natural contrast with the Okoume hull and sheer panel. The clean lines of the Shearwater make it one of the "sexiest" kayaks on the market. Learn more about CLC's Shearwater Kayaks here: http://www.clcboats.com/shop/stitchandgluekayaks/shearwaters/

Sea Kayak Around Ireland - Full Documentary

Winner of Best Sea Kayaking Film - Reel Paddling Film Festival 2017 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sea Kayak Around Ireland is 45 minute documentary the tells the story of 2 Irish Sea Kayakers who take on their dream journey of circumnavigating their country. 2015 will go down, for myself (Jon Hynes) and my paddling partner, Sean Cahill as being one of our most memorable years. We both have enjoyed a lifetime of adventures from a very young age. This has been one of our most satisfying adventures yet. We really hope you enjoy our documentary “Sea Kayak Around Ireland”. It’s been a dream of our to paddle around our own country for many years. In fact we were inspired by many of our kayaking friends who have taken on the journey in the past. Over the year both Sean and I have kayaked all over the world, we’ve had great victories over nature and the elements both on the sea and on the river. Sometimes we fared less well against those elements, however we always maintained a grounded sense and a willingness to learn. With these experiences behind us we embarked upon our dream trip around Ireland in June & July 2015. Not only did the weather and elements test us but our trip was a celebration of life, fitness, adventure and most of all, Irish people. Every day we met people, who were so kind to us, we are forever grateful to each and everyone of you. Hopefully this film in some small way reflects how much that kindness means to us. Ireland truly is, one of the world’s most special places to come and sea kayak. Both Sean and I would to thank the following people and companies. Cian Walsh of Marine User Experience (http://www.mux.ie) for all his hard work, dedication and unending energy to help us bring our story to life in this documentary. We really appreciate every ounce of energy you gave. Much respect. Thanks to Nick Bendon of www.chmarine.com , he came on board our trip plans from a very early stage and supported us with product and publicity. Yak Kayaking equipment kindly supplied us with some really fantastic kit. The Greenburg Buoyancy Aid and Glacier Jacket felt like battle armour when we faced the most challenging of Atlantic sea condtions. http://www.crewsaver.com/yak Craghoppers clothing and Gavin Fox were also very kind to us taking care of all our shore based clothing. Thank you. http://www.craghoppers.com Gavan Murphy of www.globalstar.com kindly supplied us with a Spot Tracker Gen 3 device that was superb in allowing people to monitor and track our progress. Thank you. Thanks to the following. Declan Counihan of West Midland Optical & Julbo eyewear. Moby SSDX The Hynes Family, thanks for all your belief in me over the years. A special thanks to my Father, Tony Hynes and my Mother, Hillary Good who gave me the opportunities as a young boy to go kayaking and brought me to the most special place every summer, Roaring Water bay, West Cork. Those childhood experiences have forged a lifetime love of being out on the water. A special thanks to the Cahill family for all their support of Sean and his journey around Ireland. A special thanks to all the volunteers and staff at Coast & Cliff Rescue stations and RNLI stations all around Ireland who let us camp, shower, refresh along the way. Keep up the great work at sea. We’d also like to acknowledge and thank the lads who work 24:7 at the Marine Radio Centre’s at Valentia Island, Malin Head and Dublin. Thanks for watching over us and the weather updates every day. We really do appreciate your great work. A final note, to our wives, your belief in us and un-ending support means so much. Without you, we could not have done this! Thank you.
