Facebook ads and Google ads keep going up in costs, but social media marketing can be free. But there's so much noise and so many people out there; you're not going to stand out unless you follow these tips. Today I'm going to share with you how you can stand out on social media as an entrepreneur. The first thing you need to do is create amazing content. Some people will tell you to create video content. Others will tell you podcasting is better, and some will say you need long-form content. Well here's the thing, if you look at Gary Vaynerchuk, he does a ton of videos. That's what he specializes in. He loves it. But if you look at me, I create text-based content. Why, because I'm better at that. I'm not here to tell you to do videos, or podcasts, or text-based content, I'm saying pick the content type that you're the best at. If you're the best at something, you're more naturally likely to do better. The next thing you need to know about social media, I've tested videos, and podcasts, and text-based content. If you want to be popular when you walk down the street and people recognize you, videos are going to help more than anything else. If you want website traffic, I found that long-form content works better than anyone else. And it's not just me, even people like Tim Ferriss from The 4-Hour Workweek have found that long-form content produces more traffic than any other form of content. And why, because you're not just getting social media traffic. When you create long-form content, you're also getting a ton of Google traffic. See videos and podcast files don't rank well on Google and Google's one of the most popular websites in the world. So, you should consider leveraging long-form text-based content. If you suck at writing this content, you can go to jobs.problogger.net and hire other writers to help write for you. Because this content also does extremely well on social media. And once you have this long-form content or the ability to write it, you want to go to BuzzSumo, type in keywords, and you'll see what's popular. You click on view shares, and you'll see every single person who shared that article. You want to create then a similar article that's better and more in-depth. For example, if they talked about the 10 ways to do something, you want to discuss the 101 ways to do something. And when you break that down, no one's gonna copy you. Why, it takes way too much work to write the 1001 ways to do something. So, you go to view shares, you see all the people who share the 10 ways to do something, and you want to email them. But if you continually do that, you can get thousands and thousands of social shares and I tend to go to Upwork.com and I find people to send out those emails on my behalf. And it's helped my social traffic grow by a extra 17%, specifically on Twitter. And it's helped me get more followers, more retweets, right? As a entrepreneur if you're not there consistently, you're not gonna do well. I'm not talking about just posting content consistently, I'm talking about posting comments consistently, joining groups consistently, helping others consistently, the helping part is the most important. It's not about you. Social is a community, it's about other people, you have to help them out. Make sure that you're out there on social platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn participating in groups, your own channel, leaving comments that are thorough, not a one-liner; I'm talking about paragraphs that help people out. And if you follow these tips, you're not going to be popular within a year, or six months, or three months. You'll notice that your account will start climbing in popularity month over month, and you're gonna be doing better. As long as you follow these tips and put in the time, you will become more popular on social media. How To Effectively Use Social Media Influencers To Grow Your Brand
More and more brands on social networks are actively looking to partner with social influencers in order to increase their reach and brand awareness. Social influencers are usually: • Self-made internet stars • Well-known in their industry, • Have high engagement levels on social networks • Have authority and credibility in their industry • Have large and specific audiences What this means, is if you are lucky enough to get your brand endorsed by social media influencers, you can very quickly start experiencing more engagement with your brand, a spike in your audience size, and even more traffic and sales in general. Instead of waiting for online influencers to find you, you can actually start looking for them and offer a deal for them to endorse you. But before looking for online influencers for your brand, it’s important to identify your ideal target market. For example, should you be selling organic beauty products, your target audience could be health-conscious women aged 30 to 55 years old. Once you’ve identified your ideal target audience, the next step is to find online influencers on social media who have an audience that matches yours. In order to identify online influencers, you can start by performing a simply Google search. For example, should you want to find influencers on Twitter in the makeup industry, look for “makeup tutorial blogs”. Once on the blog, make sure it is being updated regularly and that the content is aligned with the values of your brand. If the blog is being updated regularly, that means it’s still active. If so, explore the person’s social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter or Youtube. Should their audience size, video views and engagement rate be much higher than the average audience size of social media users in your industry, you could consider partnering with them to endorse your products. In addition to checking their social media reach (also known as audience size) and engagement levels, you could also check their influence score, also known as “Klout score”. A Klout score is a number from 1 to 100 which rates a person’s social media influence. Most users have an average score of 40, however, social influencers have a score of 50 and above. To check someone’s influence score, tools such as hootsuite.com are available. Youtube star Chloe Morello for example, who publishes makeup video tutorials and beauty product review videos and has over 1.8 million Youtube subscribers is not surprisingly, among the top influencers in the makeup and beauty industry. It comes as no surprise that she has worked on marketing campaigns with established brands such as L’Oreal Paris. Since every video published on Chloe Morello’s Youtube channel receives from 200,000 to over 5 million views, almost any brand in the beauty industry (even local beauty salons) could benefit from an endorsement or simple product review video from her. In order to receive endorsements from social media influencers, you will need to find out more about them such as their story, how they prefer to work with brands and what projects they are working on. Then, when you’ve collected enough information, it’s time to develop a relationship with them. It can start by simply engaging with their content, or initiating a social media conversation with them. Then, nurture your relationship with them further by consistently and authentically participating in the online conversations they take part in. You can also reach nurture the relationship by attending events they will be at. The next step to take in order to start a partnership is to create content together. The final step is making an offer in writing if you prefer. You can draw up an offer outlining the partnership, what is expected from both parties, the deliverables, how payment will work and how long the campaign will run for. Whatever your request is, make sure it is clear. A mistake people make when reaching out to influencers is remaining vague by making statements such as “we should work together”. Instead, be specific and make sure your request is a win-win. Once you’ve agreed on a influencer campaign, track your return on investment. Decide what your goal is, it could be to raise brand awareness for example, or generate more sales. If your goal is to raise brand awareness, then your key performance indicator will be the growth in audience size and engagement. If your goal is to generate more sales, then track the revenue generated. Remember, building relationships with top influencers takes time so the key to benefiting from top influencers is first and foremost, being patient! Ben Kirshner is chief executive of a New York company he started in two thousand four. Elite SEM, or search engine marketing, has about twenty-five employees. Many companies use headhunters -- recruiting services that find workers for high-paying positions. But Mr. Kirshner says that would cost him probably ten to fifteen thousand dollars to find a one hundred fifty thousand dollar a year employee. He saves money by advertising jobs online and using social media. Sometimes finding the right person this way can take time. But recently Mr. Kirshner posted a job on the advertising site Craigslist. He says he had one hundred fifty good candidates within four hours.He says his company does not use sites that offer to search the Web for information about job candidates. His company does that itself. Social networks and other websites can provide a lot of details about people's lives. As Ben Kirshner points out, that may even include personal information that employment laws prevent employers from asking. He says: "Things we are not legally allowed to ask in an interview, we can find because they're publicly displaying it on the social networks." Leslie Stevenson directs the Career Development Center at the University of Richmond in Virginia. For young job-seekers, she says, the barrier between public and private is changing. She says: "In the past two years, candidates are not seeing social media as a place that we have to keep private from prospective employers but as a tool that will assist in my search." To do that, job-seekers need to carefully develop their online image. Ben Kirshner says an important part of that is managing public and private details on social media. He says: "You are your brand. So everything you do online reflects who you are personally and professionally." He thinks a willingness to share experiences and skills will lead to a more open workplace. Even the kinds of links you share with other people on Facebook or other sites are part of your image. Image is one thing. But you also need skills. And career specialist Leslie Stevenson says that includes the "soft skills" that help communicate in the workplace and with potential clients. For VOA Special English, I'm Alex Villarreal. 10 Steps to Brand & Social Media Marketing Success

Pre-plan The pre-planning I'm talking about is what I consider your number one brand asset and that is your website. Your website is your hub with all social media channels as the spokes; your website must be more than just a brochure on the web; it has to be interactive; with resources -- articles, blogs, news items, a hook, etc. Your website is your rock, your anchor, your number one asset for your business. If you don't put the time, energy and yes money into creating, designing, and molding it into what you are all about and sharing valuable information with the community and market to the right people you are trying to reach, then you won't be found. Buy a domain name in your name regardless if you are going to use it (get one for kids too); Domain name should represent you and what you do -- you'll need to be creative as the dot com's are getting fewer and fewer. Step 1 Identify your brand -- your personality and values; what makes you different/unique? Who are you? What do you do? And Who Do you do it for? Be honest with yourself; look at yourself in the mirror and ask what I'm I all about? What are you passionate about? Fred McClimans -- the basis of a successful strategy has to reflect (and reinforce) the core drivers and values of the business. If you can identify who the business is, the value proposition it wants to deliver (the benefit a business brings to its customers, not just a product or service) then you have the foundation of a brand. Another perspective: be true to who you are. Step 2 Define your audience on social media -- where are they? (clients, business partners, etc). Do a search on various social networks to find your audience, customers. See what they are talking about -- can you be successful on those networks? Will they be interested in what you are sharing? Step 3 Set goals and expectations (sales leads, clients, customer service, networking); what is it that you want out of social media channels. What is your strategy? Joe Pulizzi -- social media strategy first starts with a content strategy. Create a compelling, consistent content initiative that answers problems (real or conceived) and position your organization as the go-to resource. Social, search and lead generation initiatives start with a content strategy first. Step 4 Identify which social media channels based on Step 2 to utilize to achieve your goals (not etched in stone as you may need to be flexible in re-acquiring an audience that might transition from Facebook to Twitter, to Google +) Step 5 Establish your brand on social media -- Why - Recruiters, Networking, Word of mouth marketing, global competition. How do you do that for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube. Follow and comment on the top 10 -- 20 blogs, LinkedIn groups, forums, etc where your customers are at. Be consistent with your brand across all social media networks. Step 6 Find like-minded individuals, clients, competitors, etc on social media channels. Step 7 Engage in conversation -- be positive, ask questions; build trust in your brand; Jim Cole -- Be reliable. Reliable advice that delivers long-term benefits to a brand. Share valuable information -- information, analysis, etc.-- do a Twitter search for a particular subject or hashtag and Politely and respectfully respond to topics that you can share your knowledge Step 8 Manage your brand through social media tools such as Hootsuite, use Google alerts, Twitter search, Buffer app, IFTTT.Com; Monitor your brand through Google alerts, Mention, and social search -- such as Twitter, Google trends, Google blogs searches. Step 9 Market your products and services -- notice how this is step nine? Imagine walking up to someone at a cocktail party and having that person say -- hey how are ya? Do you want/need my EP services? Start the relationship first in Step 7 -- this takes time to cultivate! Step 10 Hone your process; tweak, as new social media channels are established you may need to establish your brand (Google +,Path, Foursquare, Yelp, Chime.in, Quora, Instagram) -- you will need to diversify your brand to several channels to gain maximum exposure -- but do so with a plan.

Marketing For Photographers is my new series of videos designed to help you navigate social media, build a great photography website, establish a solid pricing structure and increase your photography business. This video is about the social part of social media for photographers. By being social and participating in conversations and sharing knowledge I am able to increase my social currency. Social Currency is important because without it - you are just shouting and nobody is listening. How do you build social currency for your photography business? Start with GREAT Photographs. That doesn't mean that if you're a beginner you can't post… it simply means only post your best. There is nothing worse than the photographer that posts 20 images of the same shot. Only one of them is the best which means all of the others aren't! So don't post them. Provide CONTENT and CONTEXT. It is not enough to just post an image. Tell a story. Give some background. Sell it! Don't kid yourself into thinking that people actually care about your photography. If they aren't the person in the photo - they don't care about your photography unless you give them a reason to. If you are a portrait or wedding photographer, when you post the image, talk about how much fun you had with the subject, how wonderful the wedding was, or how thrilled you are that you had a chance to spend time with this wonderful person…. Comments like this make prospective customers think you are actually a nice person and would be fun to work with. Be consistent. Post on a regular basis. I would encourage you to post a minimum of twice a week on every social media platform that you are involved with. It doesn't always have to be pictures. It could be a cool quote, a link to an interesting article, it could be a short story about an experience or a thought that you had. If you are using social media to build your business this is extremely important and in the next video, I will give you some info on tools that will help you automatically generate content for your posts. Social Engagement. Make sure you reply to all comments and messages. Start conversations. Ask for opinions and feedback. I try to respond to every single comment someone leaves me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. At a minimum, I am sure to like the comment. She says that once you decide to start a business, your personal profile on social media becomes your business profile. You build your brand through the things you put on social media. So, don’t be afraid to put things out there, even when it has to do with business. But also keep your emotions in check on social media. You need to be very aware of how you are branding yourself and your business with what you post. Also, while you shouldn’t be afraid to post about your business, don’t make every post about joining your business or buying your products. You can share your story on Facebook, but then don’t insert a website link to sign up for your business. If you do that, suddenly the post is just trying to sell something. Instead, create lifestyle posts. Show how your business fits into your daily life. What are you doing? Are you at a meeting? Are you hanging out with people you only met through your network? And of course, showcase yourself using the products or services. Don’t be so commercialized about your posting with things like “Buy Now!” or “Free Shipping!” Use daily posts of what you would be doing if you weren’t working the business, and then weave in some of your business. And use real pictures instead of those staged pictures of products. Subtly showcase the products or services you’re using. Remember, you should not be trying to close a sale from a post on social media.
