This course provides an overview of the study of psychology, focusing on historical and current issues and problems, the methods that are used for investigating them, the results that have been reported and the theories that explain them. Course Objective The main objective of this introductory course of psychology is to make students understand, explain and predict the behavior of human beings. Through the study of this course, students will be better able to understand both themselves and others, and will also be able to apply this understanding to real life situations and problems. Learning Outcomes After completing this course a student will be able to: 1. View and discuss behavior from a scientific perspective 2. Understand the role of psychology at work place 3. Understand the wide panorama of different perspectives on the many different aspects of human behavior studied by psychologists 4. Understand the advantage and limitations of the scientific method for studying people 5. Avoid the most common misunderstandings about psychology and psychologists 6. Relate what psychologists have found out about human behavior to their own understanding of people 7. Understand the impact of both innate and learned individual characteristics (e.g., personality, emotional intelligence), and how these factors do and do not shape behavior Teaching Methodology and Requirements This course includes lectures, class discussions, exercises, and simulations. This multiplicity of methods allows students to: 1. Test their understanding of theories and concepts presented in the readings. 2. Use theories and concepts to analyze and solve actual problems in human beings. This theoretical knowledge is crucial: it allows you to be able to return to “first principles” in order to solve the new problems that you will face, continually, as a manager and a part of a society. 3. Develop skills in communicating and understanding ideas, in listening to and understanding others, and in challenging others’ views in a way that advances everyone’s understanding. 4. Course Contents LEARNING • Classical Conditioning • Operant Conditioning • Comparing and Contrasting Conditioning • Cognitive Learning • Social Learning Theories • Ethology

The video, in its’ second part, explains Watson model applying classical pavlovian principles of learning to development. It introduces the studied conditioned emotions such as rage and fear giving an example of little boy Albert where it shows how associated fear with white fluff due to loud noise of rats can significantly affect Albert’s behaviorism. BBC DESIGN RULES 1st EPISODE: SPACE AND PLANNING

28:27
Space and Planning Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen gets right down to the fundamentals of design in this fascinating back-to-basics series. He tackles real problems in real homes as he explores six themes: space, colour, light, texture and pattern, balance and order, and personality. In addition to his own in-depth knowledge of design principles, Laurence calls on a colour forecaster, psychologists and a perception specialist to explain and demonstrate the science behind the how and the why. Taking a real home where a design problem is all too apparent, he demonstrates some simple psychology and basic experiments in a 'design lab' back at the studio -- and it's all done without knocking down walls or spending big bucks. Space comes under the spotlight in the first programme. Lack of space is a common problem in British homes which, surprisingly, have 20 square metres less space than Japanese homes, with an average of only 120 square metres. "The cardinal sin that the British indulge in beyond any other nation is the concept of agoraphobic furniture that feels it needs to keep its back against the wall at all times in case something unpleasant happens to it!" quips Laurence. By painting the walls a paler colour, bringing the outside inside by strategically placing an eye-catching object outside the window and switching to light-reflecting flooring, the brain is deluded into thinking that the room is bigger. Suddenly, the crowded living room is calmer and seems larger -- thanks to a little bit of science and the tricks of design rules. Eye brain specialist Dr Ione Fine comments: "Half of interior design is illusion."And on a practical note, Laurence shows why it's better to buy a couple of two-seater sofas -- because three people never sit on a three-seater! Please, enjoy it!

How to Use Psychology to Persuade and Manipulate People

07:59
Influence by Robert Cialdini: https://amzn.to/2AhhEe2 Website: https://primedlifestyle.com/ Instagram: Primed There are six universal principles that allows you to ethically manipulate and persuade people that will benefit you. I’m not only going to cover these principles, but I’ll also show you how you can use them in your life to persuade and convince people to your way of thinking without them realizing you had anything to do with it. 1. Reciprocity The first principle is reciprocity which is playing with that uncomfortable feeling of being indebted to someone, or to repay what another person has provided you. 2. Commitment and Consistency we act in ways that are consistent with our previous behavior and it’s pretty easy to manipulate people's behavior by taking advantage of this. And one method that does just that is the foot-in-the-door technique. Simply get people to agree to a tiny request and eventually they will feel compelled to agree with larger relative requests to stay true to their identity. 3. Social Proof The third principle is social proof. People are subconsciously influenced by what other people do, and will many times act in a similar way due to the social proof method. 4. Liking This principle says that we prefer to say yes to people we like over people we don’t like, even when we don’t know them personally. And so the initial key traits that determines if we like them or not are attractiveness, similarity, compliments and association amongst others. 5. Authority So this principle suggests that the greater perceived authority one has, the more likely people are to comply. 6. Scarcity So the last principle is Scarcity. An item low in stock is more desirable than an item that is freely available. Hope you enjoyed the video! Psychodynamic Theory | Psychology | Chegg Tutors

08:23
In psychology, a psychodynamic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed a psychodynamic theory according to which personality consists of the id (responsible for instincts and pleasure-seeking), the superego (which attempts to obey the rules of parents and society), and the ego (which mediates between them according to the demands of reality). Psychodynamic theories commonly hold that childhood experiences shape personality. Such theories are associated with psychoanalysis, a type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires. Not all psychologists accept psychodynamic theories, and critics claim the theories lack supporting scientific data. Other theories of personality include behavioral and humanist theories. ---------- Psychology tutoring on Chegg Tutors Learn about Psychology terms like Psychodynamic Theory on Chegg Tutors. What Is Statistics: Crash Course Statistics #1

13:00
Welcome to Crash Course Statistics! In this series we're going to take a look at the important role statistics play in our everyday lives, because statistics are everywhere! Statistics help us better understand the world and make decisions from what you'll wear tomorrow to government policy. But in the wrong hands, statistics can be used to misinform. So we're going to try to do two things in this series. Help show you the usefulness of statistics, but also help you become a more informed consumer of statistics. From probabilities, paradoxes, and p-values there's a lot to cover in this series, and there will be some math, but we promise only when it's most important. But first, we should talk about what statistics actually are, and what we can do with them. Statistics are tools, but they can't give us all the answers. Psychology Student Profile: Catherine Reidy

02:06
At Notre Dame, psychology majors achieve a balance among basic psychological principles, research methods and theories, and their application to applied areas such as child education and development, counseling, and developmental disabilities. The curriculum emphasizes quantitative and research methods and gives students a variety of opportunities for close faculty-student involvement in research projects. The holistic program prepares our majors for success in their graduate endeavors. We also serve those students who are interested in psychology as part of a broader liberal arts program or to supplement another major interest. Since most careers involve interpersonal interactions and relationships with clients, superiors, subordinates and peers, the ability to understand behaviors is an integral tool for success in the workplace. Our students acquire the critical thinking, data analysis, and research methods skills invaluable to all who seek professional careers. --- The College of Arts and Letters is the University of Notre Dame's oldest and largest college. We believe that its students, faculty, and programs meld the best aspects of a residential liberal arts college, a major research university, and a Catholic institution of international standing. The College's 20 departments span three divisions—the arts, the social sciences, and the humanities—all of which contribute to the vibrant life of the College.
