Mobile applications are designed to run specifically on smartphone devices and hence they must be built with extremely minimal, semantic HTML that is optimized for mobile connections. Mobile applications developed with Oracle Application Express are browser-based applications that run inside the browser on the mobile device. Therefore, these applications must have a connection in order to communicate with the Oracle Database and cannot operate in a disconnected environment. Mobile devices that have HTML5 capabilities can utilize all of the capabilities that can be built into the applications, including HTML5 date-pickers, sub-types that display different keypads based on field definition, and so. Older devices will still render the application they will offer less advanced features. The major advantage of developing browser-based applications is that you only need to develop them once for the majority of mobile devices. To support mobile application development, Oracle Application Express incorporates jQuery Mobile. jQuery Mobile-based web pages use a lightweight framework that enables you to create compact and minimalistic web sites that include only a few images and CSS files. Using jQuery Mobile, these applications can run on the following mobile operating systems: iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.

Today I read an article on Grant Rolands blog about sending a SMS from Oracle Forms through a Web-Service. I thought it would be nice to have the same in APEX and PL/SQL, too. For example if you have a system failure or get a new order in your shop… Grant is using a Web-Service provided by Esendex, but I’m sure there are others service providers available too. First I thought using the offered Web-Service and create a PL/SQL wrapper for it our use the Web-Service feature of APEX. But I decided to go with the simple POST version which is also offered by them. Because why invoke all the Java stuff when there is also a simple version available. The APEX web-service couldn’t be used, because then you would not be able to call it from PL/SQL. The code is quite straight forward. Get a free account, replace the constant values in the example procedure and you are ready to go! Note: If you have a proxy then you have to uncomment the proxy line. There is also a secure version available which uses HTTPS, but that requires a wallet, … and I just wanted to demonstrate that it works. The error handling of the procedure could also be improved, but hey, it’s just a demonstration. The ultimate objective of this book is to introduce you to the art of building web applications by iteratively developing the sample database application (provided with Oracle APEX) from scratch. The application demonstrates how to display summary information, use reports and forms for viewing, updating, and adding information, include charts and maps to visualize information, and create dedicated mobile pages. This application has been chosen as an example because you can learn most of the techniques from it for your own future work. The primary purpose of this book is to teach you how to use Oracle APEX to realize your own development goals. Each chapter in this book explores a basic area of functionality and delivers the development techniques to achieve that functionality. By the time you reach the end of the examples in this book, you will have a clear understanding of Oracle APEX and will be able to extend the application in almost any direction. If you are looking for a concise and concrete Oracle APEX book written for beginners, then I must say that this is the book that will return more than what you pay for it.

Eliminate the superfluous. Less is more. Is this a Zen class or a session on mobile User Interface (UI) design? Actually, the two have more in common than you would think. The high demand for mobile Web applications is forcing Web developers to rethink UI design. After years of working with an abundance of pixels, this can be a difficult process and the actual implementation even more so. But it can also be very Zen like. In this session, attendees will learn about the most common patterns in mobile UI design as well as how such designs can be constructed in Oracle Application Express. #oracleapex #apex19 #benqmamun Css Link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X4LjvOBqut57Pv4tMvvNaw2RmNITcFMP/view?usp=sharing Menu bars, drop down menus, and popup menus have been around since the beginning of graphical user interfaces. There is value in consistency of look and feel so that users can immediately recognize and easily manipulate the menus. The APEX menu widget tries to follow as closely as possible the design guidelines for traditional desktop menus. This is why they don’t have icons in the menu bar and don’t allow different colors, etc. But in the wild west of web UI anything goes. As a result there are a number of bad web based menu designs and implementations. This isn’t to say that web designers haven’t come up with new effective UI; they have and some of the patterns have found their way back into desktop platforms. One of those patterns is the mega menu. There are a number of variations of mega menus and some are better than others. A nice thing about sticking with traditional menus is that you know they will be usable and accessible. For example the APEX menu fully supports keyboard navigation including typing characters to go to the next menu item that starts with that character. Every collection contains a named list of data elements (or members) which can have up to 50 character attributes (VARCHAR2(4000)), five number attributes, five date attributes, one XML Type attribute, one large binary attribute (BLOB), and one large character attribute (CLOB). You insert, update, and delete collection information using the PL/SQL API APEX_COLLECTION. The following are examples of when you might use collections: When you are creating a data-entry wizard in which multiple rows of information first need to be collected within a logical transaction. You can use collections to temporarily store the contents of the multiple rows of information, before performing the final step in the wizard when both the physical and logical transactions are completed. When your application includes an update page on which a user updates multiple detail rows on one page. The user can make many updates, apply these updates to a collection and then call a final process to apply the changes to the database. When you are building a wizard where you are collecting an arbitrary number of attributes. At the end of the wizard, the user then performs a task that takes the information temporarily stored in the collection and applies it to the database. Beginning in Oracle Database 12c, database columns of data type VARCHAR2 can be defined up to 32,767 bytes. This requires that the database initialization parameter MAX_STRING_SIZE has a value of EXTENDED. If Application Express was installed in Oracle Database 12c and with MAX_STRING_SIZE = EXTENDED, then the tables for the Application Express collections will be defined to support up 32,767 bytes for the character attributes of a collection. For the methods in the APEX_COLLECTION API, all references to character attributes (c001 through c050) can support up to 32,767 bytes.
