Out of all the design jobs available, fashion designing happens to be the most phenomenal and versatile one. Here you have the fine opportunity to learn about clothing, accessories and the designs which can be implemented for styling purposes. Fashion designing is quite a lucrative job and is in heavy demand these days. Whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, fashion designers are very much needed for preparing bewitching and glamorous outfits for red carpet events, parties and other occasions that involve celebrities. The top countries for studying fashion designing include UK, Japan, United States of America, France and Italy. The fashion industry is very competitive. And in order to secure a good job, it is very important for a student to get enough training. He/she should be a creative person with exemplary artistic skills. Also a course in English, business, maths or sewing can be used as a proper foundation. If you are too ambitious, a simple degree might not suffice. Masters degree and certificate programmes are also available so that you can educate yourself enough to start a prosperous and bright career in fashion designing. There are several careers you can find in this field itself. Some include sketchers, cutters and pattern makers, sewers and fit technicians, head designers, specialty designs and of course the trend researchers. Other career opportunities you can explore in the field of fashion include fashion marketing, journalism, public relations, performing arts, photography, management and merchandising. To become a successful fashion designer, it is very important to get a diploma or degree at first. It might be easy to enrol yourself in a decent university, but it is often difficult to pay the course fees since it isnt inexpensive after all. However, there are a couple of big universities that offer scholarships to students who have talent and are keen enough to show some effort. India has also recognized fashion designing recently. Some of the best institutions that offer this course include National Institute of Fashion Technology (Delhi), Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology (Bangalore), Symbiosis Institute of Design (Pune), and National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad). A few international colleges are also offering certificate and diploma courses on fashion designing. Some of the bright institutions falling under this category are: • University of North Texas (United States of America) • Melbourne School of Fashion (Australia) • University of Westminster (United Kingdom) • Raffles Design Institute (Singapore) • Paris College of Art (France) • Ryerson University School of Fashion (Canada) Once you have graduated from fashion school, prepare a resume with all achievements enlisted in detail. You can always apply to PR firms if you want to work with celebrities or simply try your luck at a fashion production house. Some universities offer job opportunities for students too. So look out for them as well. For more jobs & career information and daily job alerts, subscribe to our channel and support us. Subscribe to the Refinery29 channel: http://bit.ly/subscribe-to-r29 “Couture” is a magic word. It conjures thoughts of impeccable craftsmanship, visionary design, and legendary fashion moments. But, most of us don't encounter haute couture very often, unless we're looking at a celebrity on the red carpet, a model on a catwalk, or a mannequin in a museum case. We wanted to get closer to couture — and to get you closer to couture — so we partnered with the legendary fashion publisher Visionaire to create this video, which tells the story of one dress from birth to runway. It’s a unique look inside the Dior atelier, where the team has been hard at work bringing creative director Raf Simons’ ideas to life. While an individual couture garment can take half a year to produce, here you will see the story of one dress (“Look #53,” in fashion-speak) come together in just a few minutes — from the first muslin pattern to the final style model Kinga Rajzak wore during yesterday’s haute couture show. It’s an incredible revelation, and when you discover what goes into these garments, the crazy prices on couture start to seem at least a little less crazy. While Look #53 is the star of the show, the video gives us the chance to reconnect with the rarely credited artisans and seamstresses we saw in Dior and I, as well as a cameo from Simons himself. Think of this as a mini-trip to Paris or a crash course into fashion’s highest form; either way, enjoy your couture, concentrated. There are many strengths that go along with our ADHD symptoms. Which strengths you have and express will depend on a lot of factors, and it's not the same for everybody, but here are my 10 favorite things about having ADHD that have been true for me, I've found in my research and I see in many other ADHDers too. Also -- to be clear I am NOT saying ADHD is not a challenge or a legitimate disorder. I am not saying we shouldn't get treatment. I am on Vyvanse myself and a big believer in multimodal treatment so that we can overcome those challenges and enjoy our strengths. Going to a fabric store for the first time can be a quite daunting task, so I hope this will take some of the confusion out of it! This video is for the benefit of our students in our Fashion Design and Construction class at Mason High School. In southwestern Ohio, we may not have an amazing store like MOOD fabrics in New York City, but close to our high school we have a couple of convenient options for the kids to utilize. I show JoAnne Fabrics and the Walmart fabric department in the video. In this video, students will find an explanation of things they will find in the notions aisle, as well as how to select and find a pattern using the books and drawers, where to find upholstery fabrics, decorator and quilting fabrics, apparel fabrics, etc. It is shown on the end of the fabric bolts where to find the price, fabric composition, and washing instructions... a necessary bit of information before you cut and purchase any fabric. Always read your pattern for suggested types of fabrics for the selected item. Some fabrics aren't appropriate for many applications... so check the pattern, the material composition, and washing instructions!

Last week, we explored the evolution of custom sneakers, but this week, we’re looking into high-end kicks and how they’ve crossed over into to the streetwear world. For our latest in-depth discussion, host Pete Forester sits down with Jackie Kim, associate fashion director of Barneys New York and Highsnobiety’s assistant editor Noah Thomas to share their thoughts on whether high-end sneakers like the Balenciaga Triple S should be grouped in with Air Jordans and other sportswear brands. They also examine what advantages designer sneakers have over more mainstream products. The Fashion Enrichment Group, founded in October of 2008, is a program that educates young students about Fashion Design. Students in the Fashion Club have the opportunity to visit the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Fashion Museum @ FIT and the High School of Fashion Industries for an amazing fashion showcase. From having very little knowledge of the fashion industry, these students evolve into a junior designer after 1 year and a senior designer after 2. Students learn the basics of fashion designing and specifically drawing techniques. They learn how to render fabrics and draw using a 10-head figure. They use materials such as marker paper, chartpak markers and design portfolios just like college students. At the end of the enrichment program, they create a 5-piece collection inspired by a theme. They then choose one of their designs to be sewn for the annual PS 51 Project Runway Show. Shani Perez, Art Teacher www.shaniperez.com

British fashion designer and former pop star Victoria Beckham is giving away 600 pieces of clothing, including several evening dresses, to raise money and awareness for mothers living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. Beckham's iconic, white Dolce and Gabbana dress worn for the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards is just one of the items to go under the hammer in aid of mothers2mothers (m2m), a charity that works to prevent the transmission of HIV from mothers to babies in nine countries including South Africa, Swaziland and Kenya. The money raised from the auction of Beckham's evening gowns, hats, shoes, bags, jewellery and costume pieces will be "transformational" for the organization that trains and employs mothers living with HIV to mentor other HIV-positive mothers in their community, m2m founder, Mitch Besser, said. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/entertainment/~3/Jnop8sjhQyc/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
