This Is Why MLMs Get Called Cults

17:24
Are MLMs a cult? Multi-Level Marketing schemes like Lularoe, Young Living Essential Oils, Doterra, Kyani, Herbalife, and Amway are scams for sure, but are they cults? Here we cut past the success stories, the testimonies, and the how-to's in order to analyze these pyramid schemes in light of Steven Hassan's BITE model. The world of pseudoscience is closely tied to the MLM world, as essential oils, naturopathy, homeopathy, anti-vax / anti-vaxxers, cancer conspiracies, and all kinds of alternative medicine exist in both. Direct sales and network marketing are often little more than alt-med quackery. How Quacks and Cults Recruit Followers

11:08
Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GeneticallyModifiedSkeptic PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/GMSkeptic Deepak Chopra, David Avocado Wolfe, Mormons, multi-level marketing schemes, and Evangelical Christians all utilize common manipulation tactics which quacks and cult leaders thrive on. These cult recruitment tactics are far simpler and more widely used than most people imagine. Even people who mean well often prey on vulnerabilities in order to convert or recruit others. MLMs like Doterra and Young Living Essential Oils are jokingly called cults by the anti-mlm community, but they really do manipulate their distributors into peddling pseudoscience in a cult-like way. Hopefully this video will help prevent you from joining a cult. A special note to those who've repeatedly told me this whole series on quacks is just a guise to bash Jordan Peterson: This is part 5 of this series, and he receives no mention in 3 of the parts. 5 Lies Theists Tell About Atheists

Go donate to EXMNA here: https://www.gofundme.com/support-for-exmuslims-of-north-america Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GeneticallyModifiedSkeptic PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/GMSkeptic Many theists believe and tell several lies about atheists, sometimes out of ignorance, and sometimes out of malice. Five of the lies I tackle here are that atheists lose faith because of hardship, atheists who deconverted were never true believers, atheists have never studied X religion, there are no atheists in foxholes, and that atheists secretly believe in god. Religious media loves to propagate all these falsehoods (I'm looking at you Pureflix's God's Not Dead and CBS' God Friended Me). For those believers who will listen, it only takes 10 minutes with a calm, friendly atheist to explain why all of these statements are false. That's why I'm here. These false statements confuse a lot of people about why atheists don't believe in god, whether atheists can be good people, or if atheists are educated about religion. To further the conversation, we've got to put these to bed. 3 Mormons Accidentally Discredit Mormon Doctrine (A Response)

12:08
TWITTER: https://twitter.com/gm_skeptic 3 Mormons Accidentally Discredit Mormon Doctrine (A Response) Is Mormon doctrine racist? Were Joseph Smith and Brigham Young racists? Why were black people denied the priesthood until 1978? Kwaku and Ian of the channel “3 Mormons” insist that Mormon doctrine was never racist, just that the founding prophets were. In doing so, they accidently discredit the teachings of Brigham Young entirely. 3 Mormons cherry pick their doctrine in order to defend their church’s integrity, but end up disproving the inherency of Mormon prophecy instead. Also, the end of their video shows how dangerously devoted they are to their church. The church’s model of operation seems to be pulled straight from the pages of George Orwell’s 1984. I have no qualms in saying that Mormonism is a cult. SUBSCRIBE for more videos on pseudoscience, skepticism, and atheism! Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jehovah's Witnesses and more have their own awful suggestions about healthcare. Outside of this event, these debate practices can be observed in footage from the Sam Harris, Jordan Peterson talks in Vancouver and Dublin, on the Waking Up podcast, on the Joe Rogan Experience, and throughout his speaking career. If Atheists Argued Like Theists

04:05
If Atheists Argued Like Theists What if atheists argued like theists often do? So often, atheists hear arguments like: You just don’t believe in God because you want to sin!” or “I’ve experienced God personally.” or even “You can’t prove God doesn’t exist!” If turned around on them, would theists find these to be compelling arguments for atheism? Why Theists Can't Convert Atheists

11:59
Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GeneticallyModifiedSkeptic PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/GMSkeptic Do atheists ever find god? How can you make an atheist believe in god? Can you convert an atheist? Well, if you're a theist, the answers to those questions might disappoint you. Theists often don't understand atheism in the first place, and even when they do, they often use faulty arguments to prove god's existence. When I came out as an atheist, I was bombarded by bad arguments for god, and that still hasn't changed much. So, I thought I'd give theists some advice on how to talk to atheists. It strikes me how so many "My conversion from atheist to Christian" type stories involve emotional reasoning. The Kalam cosmological argument, Paschal's wager, the ontological argument, the argument for design, and the like don't seem to convince many atheists, and those with decent critical thinking skills don't seem to convert. 7 Common Arguments for Alternative Medicine DEBUNKED

12:22
TWITTER: https://twitter.com/gm_skeptic 7 Common Arguments for Alternative Debunked Alternative medicine proponents argue for their viewpoints in similar ways to religious apologists. Their arguments are just as ill-informed and irrational as any religious fundamentalist’s. So, debunking them takes little more than basic critical thinking skills and a little understanding of how drugs are researched and regulated. Naturopathy is pseudoscience, essential oils don’t work, homeopathy is a scam, the supplement industry is bogus, and the terrible arguments their proponents present are definitely no help. The claims I debunk are as follows: 1. There are no side effects 2. I’ve experienced it and it works 3. It's been used for thousands of years 4. There’s research about it 5. Big pharma is all about money and alternative medicine isn’t 6. Pharmaceuticals are derived from plant extracts, so you might as well take the “real thing” 7. 3 Scientists, 3 Awful Arguments for God

Why do some scientists believe in God? Has science proven God's existence? Here, Dr. Gerald Schroeder, Dr. John Lennox, and Dr. Francis Collins use science and religious apologetics to argue for God. Lennox defends Christianity against the problem of evil, Collins uses the fine tuning argument, and Schroeder "proves" the Biblical God using a creative argument of his own. How Quacks Sell Supplements as Medicine (Without Breaking the Law) Quacks and scam artists sell dietary supplements as medicine all the time. They’ve just figured out ways to do it legally. Eric Hovind was recently busted by the FDA and issued a warning letter for selling B17 supplements as a cancer cure, and that inspired me to dig deeper into this issue. Skepticism is our only defense against scammers who would have us risk our lives over fake cures that make them money. There Is No Such Thing as True Christianity (Or Any Other Religion)

05:49
TWITTER: https://twitter.com/gm_skeptic There Is No Such Thing as True Christianity (Or Any Other Religion) “True Christianity” doesn’t exist, but some of my fellow atheists act as if it does. Likewise, there is no such thing as a true Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Mormon, or any other religious label. There are thousands of ways to interpret scripture, and without external verification of the accounts they contain, why consider one more correct than another? There is no true interpretation of the Bible, so pointing out when Christians disobey its “commands” is of little use. The fact that all scripture is subject to personal interpretation demonstrates the fragility of the assertion that it is inherent, divine, ultimate truth, which directly communicates the mandates of a perfect creator. Proof of evolution is easy to come by today, you only have to be willing to take the time to check it out. I left Christianity and my "personal relationship with Jesus Christ" a while back even though I had those experiences, and I think I have good reasons for that. The argument from personal experience is thrown at me often, so I wanted to have this on the record, as well as explain why personal experience isn't evidence for god. How Peaceful Religion Kills | Religion as a Placebo

How Peaceful Religion Kills | Religion as a Placebo Faith healing proves that even peaceful religion can kill. Children dying in Christian Science and Followers of Christ is a regular occurrence. Reliance on placebo rather than on science based medicine is dangerous, and it’s easy to see why. Whether it’s cancer treatment, mental health care, or a time of crisis, you’re better off trusting science, because prayer doesn’t work. Armin Navabi and I got the chance to meet up with Amir, an activist who grew up in Bnei Brak and has since escaped. I've spoken plenty about cults, from how cults form, to why people join cults, to talking about the cult I almost joined (Young Living Essential Oils). It's finally time that I show you what the inside of a cult looks like. This is part two of this documentary: Atheists Explore A Jewish Cult | Bnei Brak. Here, we meet and speak with Jewish cultists at a Jewish prayer house, and a study where men can live and study religion (Talmud and Torah) full time. I Found Crazy Islamic Propaganda on YouTube

Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GeneticallyModifiedSkeptic PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/GMSkeptic This religious propaganda is insane. These guys not only advocate harmful political policies, like doing away with all apostates, but actually want to give Islam absolute power. This is the kind of radicalizing propaganda that those like Maajid Nawaz once fell victim to and now speak against at Quilliam International. Islamism like this hurts everyone, especially vulnerable young Muslims. Let's all do our part to counter propaganda, criticize bad ideas, and defeat anti-Muslim bigotry. Muslims and ex-Muslims alike benefit when ideas like these are defeated. Whether you think that reform is our best option, like Maajid Nawaz or Sam Harris, or that religion must be defeated, like Armin Navabi, something must be done. How Calling People Islamophobic Actually Enables Bigotry

Anti-Muslim bigotry is definitely a problem which should be addressed, but Islam still deserves criticism. Regressives fail to see the complexity of this issue - that criticizing an idea does not make one bigoted against the people who hold it. No doubt, I'll be called islamophobic for making this video, and regressive leftists will continue to continue to rail against me. For the sake of tolerance, we can't stop having this conversation. 4 Ways Quacks Evade Criticism

15:40
Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GeneticallyModifiedSkeptic PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/GMSkeptic In any serious confrontation, quacks everywhere utilize clever tactics to evade criticism. Even credentialed educators like Jordan Peterson occasionally use these tactics. Ravi Zacharias, Deepak Chopra, and creationists at Answers in Genesis are more clear cut quacks, and they make use of these regularly, as to avoid getting debunked quite as often. Like I've said before, whether or not you espouse faulty ideologies or pseudoscience, sometimes the WAY you communicate can be the most deceptive. Conspiracy Theories: A Symptom of Bad (Often Religious) Ideas

04:25
Do you believe in any conspiracy theories? If your answer is yes, chances are that belief is predicated on a deeper belief that constitutes a significant part of your worldview. In this way, conspiracy theories are often believed due to mandatory assumption rather than their evidential basis. Conspiracy belief is not always, but often, a symptom of bad ideas. Whether you're religious or atheist, examine your core beliefs. Do they demand that you accept anything which is without evidence? Jordan Peterson and Matt Dillahunty debated / discussed psychedelics, specifically magic mushrooms containing psilocybin, in a conversation hosted by Pangburn Philosophy back in May. Matt replies, saying that science can't do that (unless you misrepresent it), and he's right.
